As a result Dr.Nelson voluntarily gave me $1950 as compensation. This year my #3 implant has also fallen out. Having 2 implants fall out is very RARE according to the other dentists that I spoke with. He did poor work. So please be careful when you decide to choose Dr.Nelson. In the meantime I will be reporting to California dental board and BBB.

I also appreciate how transparent he is on estimated costs before doing any treatment. I additionally appreciate that he does a zoom appointment before meeting in person to make things more efficient and does the zoom appointment at no charge. For the gum graft itself, Dr. Nelson did a terrific job of working with my pain tolerance on taking local anesthesia such as deep breaths beforehand, explaining exactly what he will do, and placing it in a speed that matches my comfort. The procedure itself was complete smooth sailing from there, he provides detailed post op instructions and contact information for assistance between the surgery and follow up.

I was pleasantly surprised to receive phone calls from him the day after my tooth extraction and the completion of the Implant. He called to ensure everything was going well. His assistants are equally professional. Every step of the treatment was clearly explained. The front desk staff was kind and welcoming. Appointments were on time. To sum up, I am grateful for the excellent care and would highly recommend his practice.

I generally avoid leaving negative reviews for local businesses, but I felt a responsibility to…read moreshare my experience so others can make informed decisions. While Dr. Low may be a skilled periodontist, I will not be returning to this practice for several reasons. First, the billing department's timing cost me financially. I had an expensive deep cleaning done at the end of the year and repeatedly asked to pay before December 31st so I could utilize my remaining FSA funds. They insisted they would mail the bill, but didn't send it until the following year. Because of this delay, I lost my previous year's FSA funds and was forced to pay out-of-pocket the next year when my new FSA cap was exceeded. Second, this is minor, and kinda funny. The front desk vibe is a bit much. The young staff wears heavy makeup and super thick, caterpillar-like fake eyelashes, and they match that dolled up look with a snob attitude. They talk down to you, lack basic conversation skills, and just mindlessly repeat "no worries" to almost anything you say. The main reason I am not returning, however, is a complete loss of TRUST. I spent $500+ for consult and xrays at this office just so Dr. E. Low (younger guy) can tell me that I need a highly invasive, expensive oral surgery. Then, I was immediately ushered to a finance coordinator to sign consent and put money down. It felt excessive (GREED) and extreme, I sought a second and third opinion, both of which confirmed that a far less invasive, or even over-the-counter, treatment should be tried first. By the way, 1.5 years later, my gum situation have improved with the less invasive and over-the-counter solutions recommended.

Dr. Abe is one of the best periodontists in the bay area. I had 3 crowns in my front teeth and one…read moreof the crowns was coming out because the underlying tooth was broken and the root of the tooth was cracked. the only option was to do an implant and place a crown on top. However, if the jaw bone doesn't have enough bone tissue to hold the implant, there is a risk of collapsing the jaw. Since I lost most of my teeth and my jaw was getting weaker Dr. Abe recommended bone grafting before placing implants on one of my front teeth. Unfortunately, the bone tissue didn't grow and there wasn't enough bone mass after the first surgery, he had to do another bone grafting to ensure there was sufficient bone tissue to hold the implant. While he opened up my gum tissue, he checked on the adjacent tooth to ensure the other teeth were in good health and didn't need an implant. After a year-long treatment, I finally had an implant and it's been over 6 years now, and haven't had any issues. I have been visiting his office twice a year for cleaning and his hygienists are fabulous.

A year, 3 months and $7000 later, and I am in a worse place than I was when I started with Dr. Abe…read morefor a bone graft and dental implant. I agreed he should be given a chance to do it again after the first bone graft failed, but when the second one failed as well, I lost all confidence in his abilities to do this job right. And I didn't even get to the implant yet. This was based on several factors such as; his vague comments about what he could do to make it work, comments about the bone graft went away without any sort of explanation as to how that would even be possible, the fact that his blood drawing abilities were questionable, the lack of any sort of offer for any type of sedation and my noticing that his office doesn't have that capability, and the fact that some of his equipment didn't seem to work properly (this in regards to the hygienist and her equipment, which failed when she was working on me and also failed when she was working on others while I was in the office). Never was there any comment made about a discount since he had to try again, just let me reschedule you and here's the fee. I had followed his directions implicitly as to care, eating requirements, medication, etc, so feel like I held up my end of the bargain. Dr. Abe's office is lacking in technical advancements: there doesn't seem to be a panoramic X-ray machine available, and how can you make decisions about how to proceed with treatment when you cannot see the entire jaw structure. How can one suggest a sinus lift when one doesn't know what that sinus area even looks like? As I found when I asked for second opinions elsewhere, a sinus lift would be difficult on the side that needs the implant due to structure of the sinus cavity (this from a panoramic X-ray taken by the second opinion dentist), so having been told "we'll have to do a sinus lift" for the third attempt was not even given with any knowledge of whether that could be safely and reasonably done or not. There doesn't appear to be any way he could offer any type of sedation, only local anesthetic, and let me tell you, the idea of listening to and feeling all the things one hears and feels during this procedure for a third time was just NOT appealing. And with his prices, you can't even say you paid less for the torture because it was done under a local anesthetic. Do yourself a favor, and stay away from this office, especially if you have anything even remotely complicated going on.

But that's how I got to know Dr. Wu. My first treatment was a deep cleaning performed by Cindy, the best hygienist I've even known. Due to the pandemic, the cleaning was done on both sides in one day so the patients don't have to do Covid test twice and come back for the 2nd time. Even though I had to be on the dentist chair for 2 hours and my mouth was numb for a few hours, I felt great afterward. During the cleaning, Cindy tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible, and engaged some fun conversation so I don't feel stress. Cindy also gave me a lot of great tips for oral & gum care, which I didn't know before. On the check-up exam 5 weeks later, Dr. Wu was pleased with my gum's health. And I now can move forward with the implant, which I insisted to be performed by Dr. Wu. So, stay tuned for my next update about the implant. May take a while though as it's a long process.
