Be aware of over charges!! Charges too much for basic oral exam and the scans literally 50% more than what insurance would accept and keeps saying "we are not contracted with insurance companies; we are out of network". Insurance only reimbursed me about 50% rest went out of pocket and they are not willing to revisit/look at the fees again cause they already charged it and don't wanna waste time on refunding me. They don't accept X-Rays from previous dental office and would do a new 3d scan, just business.. Visit this office and have fun liting your ass on fire! read more

I found his name on Google search, he told me that I need two implants- I went to another dentist to get the second opinion and he was able to save my teeth without getting the extraction, implants and crowns. Last year I had a substantial procedure performed at Mid-Peninsula Periodontics in Los Altos: couple of extractions, crowns, implants, Invisalign treatment. I'm currently undergoing a deep cleaning treatment among regular periodical cleanings. Dr Field's staff, from the front office to the dental assistants, to the dental hygienist is outstanding. Professional, friendly, always explaining in details any upcoming procedure, they all really make me feel comfortable at every visit. Dr Field's work turned out to be excellent and I'm highly pleased with the experience. This is a different review than normal in that I wasn't seeing Dr. Beckstead and his staff as a client, but rather as their CPR instructor. I've taught the BLS CPR refresher class to many dental offices and in general, they go okay. Some offices have some of the equipment that we use in class practice, and sometimes not. Instructing at Mid-Peninsula Periodontics was a refreshing change of pace as they had everything and more, and knew how to use it! This office was, by margins, the most well-equipped dental office I've taught at. Most offices only some of equipment we use for adults. This group had everything and more, to cover an emergency for adults and pediatrics. And they knew how to use it! Not all healthcare providers are created equal. Some are hesitant, timid, and to be frank, not the first responders I'd want if I was experiencing a medical emergency. That is not the case here! The team at Mid-Peninsula Periodontics are intelligent, efficient and skilled. I would send family here with the comfort of knowing they are in excellent, capable hands! read more

This is a tough review. Dr. Beckstead is excellent at his craft, but I'm put off by his arrogance. I also don't care for the mid-chair-visit "Let's do this, and there's a cost associated with that," followed by having someone come in, get my initials, and tell me how much more it's going to cost. I found Mid-Pen Perio while searching specifically for a periodontics specialist and I struck gold. The building itself is impressive, but the team is why I'm writing this review. I'm actually looking forward to my next prophylaxis. That's a teeth cleaning, and I never would have believed I'd say such a thing. I've been undergoing an extraction and implant process at Mid-Peninsula Periodontics. The reception staff are warm and efficient, and they respond quickly to emails and phone calls. The assistants are kind and knowledgeable. I've felt like I'm in expert hands whenever I have an office visit. Dr. Beckstead even called me on the phone the evening of my surgery to make sure all was well, and then he phoned in an extra prescription for me. My own dentist had the exact same extraction and implant surgeries done by Dr. Beckstead, and I can second the recommendation. I've been a patient at Mid-Pen Periodonture for about 15 years, initially needing gum surgery. Once it was done, Cindy Wassom, an incredibly good dental hygienist, has worked with me to maintain my dental health. She has performed deep root cleaning three times yearly and has become my primary dental care professional. Among her skills, she administers nitrous oxide, which helps mitigate pain. Cindy stays informed about my health and healthcare changes, is quite knowledgeable about medical conditions, and works carefully and expertly. Her patients adore her, myself included. She's very friendly yet professional; not all health care providers can strike this balance. Quite honestly, she has restored my gum health [I'm unable to floss], and has prevented any tooth loss. Nobody wants to have a tooth extracted and an implant added. But Dr. Beckstead and his staff made the experience as pleasant (!) as it could have been. I especially valued: 1. The way Dr. Beckstead explained my treatment options without encouraging me to undertake the most expensive one. Throughout the appointments I felt that all of my questions were and would be patiently answered. 2. The staff's helpfulness. E.g., an antibiotic failed to arrive the day before I needed it; a new prescription was immediately sent to my pharmacy. Also, when I was away from the area I thought there might be a problem with the implant. I called Dr. Beckstead's office and my issue was promptly resolved over the phone (what I thought was a problem wasn't a problem). 3. Everyone's concern that any pain I experienced would be minimal. As it happened, I had no pain and did not have to restrict my activities at all. 4. The fact that I didn't have to get involved with the process: e.g., appointments with other dentists were made for me. All I had to do was show up -- and pay. read more

Let me just say that my Mother and I had an A+ experience with Dr. Beckstead and his staff. Mom is a "senior" and has a complicated set of dentures. Dr. B helped her with a chronic infection problem.... performing a sensitive tissue graft procedure. I served as Mom's "patient advocate". And what was our experience? AWESOME! The Doctor is kind, professional, prompt, and very very competent. He knows what he is doing and he did a top notch job for Mom. She is well on her way to a healthier mouth due to Dr. Beckstead's great work! And his staff? Just like him they are kind, professional, prompt, and very competent. Guess that is not too surprising as he has high standards for himself and therefor for his staff as well! Parking is ample, including at least one handicapped spot right near the door. The office is always clean and cheery. The Office Manager Mary is really helpful. Dr. B's dental assistant is very kind and competent (and cute). Etc, etc. Get the picture? I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Beckstead and staff. I needed my wisdom tooth removed and was going to my regular dentist for the extraction. A trusted friend told me that I had to go to Dr. Beckstead. He had a dental implant and had no pain and his tooth is doing fine. My friend was absolutely correct. Dr. Beckstead removed my two wisdom teeth and did some additional laser surgery. I felt no pain and had no negative effects post-surgery. I am very sensitive to anaesthesia and mentioned that to Dr. Beckstead who gave me some medication to prevent nausea and vomiting which worked very well. I highly recommend Dr. Beckstead for peridontal work based on my experience. read more

When is the last time you hugged your dental hygienist? I did at my last visit to Mid-Peninsula Periodontics. I have been visiting Dr. Beckstead's office for quite some time now, as both my parents had bad teeth and gums, so I alternate between Mid-Peninsula Periodontics and my regular dentist. In fact I have been a patient so long that I am now on my third hygienist at this office. Teanne Nguyen is fantastic! I can't say enough good things about her. Her chair-side manner is excellent and she very quickly puts you at ease. Her technique is fantastic, gentle and thorough. She is always happy to answer any questions I have, and not only to answer but also discuss. She is very knowledgeable and keeps current on advances in the field. But also very importantly, I never feel rushed. She takes her time to make sure everything is done well, and also to make sure I know everything I need to know about our visit. I told Dr. Beckstead that she can never leave! The whole staff is wonderful, warm, and accommodating. I am always pleased to visit them and there is no 'being afraid' of visiting a dental professional because I know, without a doubt, they will take excellent care of me, my teeth, and answer any questions I might have. I arrived at Dr. Beckstead's office for a consultation for a gum graft - upon arrival, the receptionist was nice and helped me complete the pre-paper work without a problem, no complaints there. Then a guy came out, called my name for the appointment but first brought me to some room to watch a video about some Dr. Oz vitamin supplement product and try to sell me on that therapy; that put me off from the get-go as I was there for a gum graft consultation, not to be sold some Dr. Oz products... Afterwards,they brought me in to the actual room for the consultation and played another video for me of how the gum graft goes and said the Dr. would be in shortly. Promptly after this video was over, Dr. B came in to the room, said hello, took some pictures of my mouth with a camera. Then first asked if I was interested in any of the Dr. Oz products to which I said no - then he asked if I had any questions about the procedure to which I also said no so I could politely leave vs. just walking out as I was already put off from the get go with the feeling he was more concerned about just performing another surgery and trying to sell me some vitamins rather than truly caring about my needs as a patient. They sent me an estimate for the procedure a few weeks later to which I didn't respond as per my note above, I didn't feel like the Dr. was truly concerned for me as a patient and was just trying to sell another surgery. read more

I had a very bad experience with the dental implant done by Dr. Beckstead. During the procedure of the implant he damaged a neighboring tooth. The proposed solution was to remove two additional teeth and add an extra implant (Ka-Ching!). During the several session process he also recommended having a skin graft to improve my gum line. I did try this and it had little improvement and turned out to be quite painful What a disaster. read more

Dr. Beckstead's office apparently does not care about obtaining new patients. I received a referral to Dr. Beckstead from my orthodontist and gave his office a call. The front office person took my info and said she would request my scan from my orthodontist and would get back to me. I didn't hear back for weeks. When I called back, the next person I spoke with (who could honestly very well have been the same person I initially spoke with) had no clue who I was and did not have my information anywhere. So I went through another long call where I walked through all my information and was told that I would hear back...but I didn't. I THEN left a message earlier this week after the office hours hoping I would hear back from someone who was on top of their job. Did I hear back? Of course not. I'm done wasting my time and there are plenty of other periodontists out there. If Dr. Beckstead wasn't taking new patients, it would have been nice to have been told this up front as I wouldn't have wasted weeks waiting to hear back. I thought my whole experience was wholly unprofessional and it reflected horribly upon the doctor and his practice. read more

I was referred to Dr. Beckstead for gum recession on one of my front teeth- he said a simple tissue graft on both front teeth would look great and assured me healing time would be 2 weeks, 3 at the most- he never mentioned possible complications etc. During the procedure (I was under anesthetic) Dr. Beckstead decided to include the incisors on either side of my front teeth (more $$$, but thats beside the point). The day after surgery my gums were covered with a white film and I was in excruciating pain. From that point on Dr. Beckstead was evasive- he clearly knew something was wrong but never offered any suggestions for optimizing my situation. My gums still havent completely healed and have receded even further than when I first went to him, especially the two teeth he was not supposed to touch!! I finally decided to write this evaluation because I look to others for their recommendations. It has been two years since Dr. Beckstead operated on my gums and I have had mind-numbing pain 24/7 ever since, not to mention the aesthetic disfigurement - this has literally changed my life- horribly!! I strongly recommend against anyone entrusting their teeth, gums, or any other aspect of their health to Dr. Beckstead. read more
