Bought a Groupon for a semi synthetic oil change here. The man at the desk refused to honor the Groupon, his insisting that my vehicle required full synthetic oil. I'm feminine presenting and don't know much about mechanics so I couldn't really argue. He then listed off many things he said were wrong with my vehicle, brakes and belts etc needed replaced. I had just had all those things replaced ~6mos prior so I told him no. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He pushed me in a way that made me very uncomfortable, said something along the lines of "are you sure you don't want to call your dad?" Which was so crazy to me, like you don't know me or my dad??? What if I didn't have a dad? I needed an inexpensive Oil change. I called Hyde Park Midas and was told if I arrive at 7:30 a.m. I'd be in and out in 30 mins. I went and asked attendant, how long and it went from 30-45 mins. After a while a Rep proceeded to inform me of an extremely unsafe problem with ALL my brake pads grinding metal-to-metal and proceeded to pressure me to repair. I emphatically refused (I KNOW what metal grinding on Rotor sounds like) and requested they just do oil change, not a full inspection and was told they "had" to. By then, time had passed. 50 minutes later, I asked what the hold up was and was told by "another" Rep that it takes an hour, then denied "anyone" told me 30 or 45 mins. Well, the last straw was when I left I noticed NEW info on vehicle screen regarding my Tire monitoring System which, had clearly been reset. This shop truly sets a new bar for incompetence. In 4 visits, not one employee out of about 6-7 that I've dealt with here is able to figure out the correct engine my car has (it's a turbo, instead they look up the base model engine and put in the wrong oil). I have dealt with this issue 4 times at the same location and every time I have to fight tooth and nail to get them to put the right oil in my car. 2 of the 4 times it was still done incorrectly. (The oil type is printed on the oil cap, as well as being easily Googled). I took my car in for a simple oil change. After all said, I was told that whoever did my last oil change totally stripped my oil plug. I took it back to my reputable shop. No way they did that. Do not get any services done here besides an oil change. So I take all of my cars here to get an oil change because it is really cheap if you use a Groupon. They typically inspect the rest of the car to look for any thing else wrong as well. After taking it here today they recommend I replace my brake pads, rotors, and calipers. Then they noticed a power steering leak and said I needed to replace my rack and pinion and power steering pump. All in all it was going to cost $3,200. I like to get a second opinion so I took it to my other mechanic who does my maintenance/repairs who is a very honest guy. He inspected my brakes and the leak and turns out my leak was due to an overflow of oil and the pump/rack/pinion did not need to be replaced. Then he reminded me we just replaced my brake pads and rotors less than 6 months ago (see picture) you can tell they are basically new. I feel lied to and deceived. Beware of getting a cheap oil change to get you into the door and then getting over charged on the back end for maintenance that isn't necessary. read more

I went to Midas and I had went over there because I needed a 02 sensor those people over there destroyed my car they gave me a credit card actually they gave me two credit cards to put in a rack and pinion cuz they said I needed it then they told me I needed motor mounts they told me I needed the power steering pump that I had already had one put in at brake check now my car sits up at their lot my lights don't work in the back the running lights the Master mechanic which was Rick told me that I needed another motor and they going to charge me $4,600 to put it in don't ever ever go to Midas on Guadalupe or Ben White they are crooks. This Midas location was very accommodating. Already had a great special running for synthetic oil change, and honored my Groupon for a tad cheaper. They did have a wait when I first got there so I left and came back a couple hours later when it was less busy. SCAMMERS! I bought a Groupon for a friend for an oil change. He came in and they scan the Groupon before even checking his car. They refused to do an oil change unless he pays them $600 for repairs. I went to get my serpentine belt looked at and while I was there they then told me I had 4 other things wrong with my car including my valve cover(which was supposedly leaking), ac compressor, serpentine belt, tensioner, and oil pan(which was also leaking), which rounded up to 1,689.80 Come to find out I went to my usual shop precision tune, and nothing was wrong with my valve cover, it wasn't leaking whatsoever and everything else was fine. I spent no money at the end of the day thank god. I was offered paying the amount off (at Midas) and when I declined the man who had helped me out then changed his whole mood into making me feel like sh*t because i didn't want to get my car "fixed". PRICEY and UNNECESSARY CHARGES. This company will take advantage of you if you don't know much about cars. Walked in with a check engine light issue and was told by a guy named Ricky that it would be $200 just to get it checked out and that it would be waived if I got the service fixed with them. After agreeing to this I was told I need $1,000 worth of replacements on my car including spark plugs. I checked my records and saw I had them replaced recently and absolutely did not need them replaced. I was also asked to pay $550 for an oxygen sensor that I was able to get replaced elsewhere for $280. I would highly recommend going somewhere else, Ricky the store manager seemed fishy from the start. read more
