I went in to Midas on Guadalupe in Austin. I was told my front and back brakes needed repair. in order to be scheduled the next day, they needed to order the parts first. He told me 1 pm in the 28th of September I could be seen and he pre-charged me $850. I went in at 1 pm on the 28th and was told I could NOT be seen and no parts had been ordered. I asked that my card be refunded. He said he could NOT do that. I would need to come in the FOLLOWING day to get my refund. I CALLED the next day , Sept. 29th. I was told I still could not get a refund and my card could NOT be refunded. The manager told me they do not give refunds!! DO NOT GO TO MIDAS! They take your money and then tell you good-bye! Now, I am filing a small court claim, but be careful of this store!!!! read more

These people are thieves! Go in for a simple oil change and they will say you need x part replaced and charge exorbitant prices for parts and labor, which will be cheaper just about anywhere else. I had my car serviced with about $2k worth of repairs, and not even 2 weeks later my check engine came back on. Thinking it was related to the previous repairs, I returned and they came up with other parts that needed to be replaced priced at an additional $2,500. Since the repairs were unrelated to my previous visit mere weeks earlier, they charged $160 for diagnostics and I got nothing in return. Scammed! Stay away (like many other reviews will corroborate). Went in for an oil change, tire rotation, and was subsequently talked into a brake rotor/pad replacement (car needed it anyway). After getting my car back -- there is now a consistent "whir" sound and vibration after 40+mph. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and took it back, thinking something was overlooked during the brake job, and they then revealed that it was my wheel bearings, without explaining why this would produce a new noise and vibration. I had my wheel bearings done elsewhere, and the noise/vibration has not gone away. I'd love for Midas to fix their flub, but I'm hesitant to take it back, since there doesn't seem to be any system of accountability setup for doing honest work. read more

BEWARE! Absolutely despicable business practices. I will never set foot in a Midas again and neither should you. My friend got a Groupon for an oil change and went to the Guadalupe location. Was told she had an oil leak (never heard this before and now don't think it was true) and payed almost $800 to have her valve cover gasket replaced. Two days later her engine overheated and I found a severe coolant leak. Take it back and after arguing and saying there's nothing wrong with it, once I physically show them where the leak is, they admit they "didn't connect a hose properly". So they reconnect the hose. Check engine light starts coming on 10 DAYS later. My reader says the VVTs need to be replaced. She takes it to Aamco for an estimate on the cost of the VVT repairs and they tell her that there's no doubt whatsoever that Midas caused this damage replacing the valve cover gasket. Interestingly enough, Darius admitted in our next interaction that the mechanic who did the original work was fired for incompetence. We have an audio recording of this admission. Midas denied the damage, saying it's "merely a coincidence" it's happening now, within DAYS of them working on it, BOTH times. Told to take it to the Ben white store so we would no longer have to work with Darius Green (the disrespectful, dismissive, and argumentative manager). Ben white says there's literally NO OIL in the truck!!!!!! So she's been driving around with no oil in my truck, causing damage to the engine, and now there's metal shavings in her oil. The truck is undriveable now and will need an entirely new engine. At this point I've spoken to multiple mechanics, and have been told that this damage is unequivocally Midas' fault from the original work. We have given them every chance to make this right (including Rick and Mario- manager and district manager I believe) and every step of the way they have argued with me and even had the audacity to tried to upsell us further. Every single time. These are by far the worst business practices I have ever dealt with and we've advised everyone we know never to go to a Midas. Now I have to seek resolution through other means, causing much frustration and a lot of my time. Well it just keeps getting worse, Midas failed to replace a major component (orifice tube) even though I was charged for it on the on the day of service. I will attach some photos, I have the new part in the bag to show for reference. I even called before I went to get it picked up and asked if this part was replaced. They lost my tire lock and refused to replace it. I had to go to the dealership and pay for a new one. They also did not put on all five lug nuts on my back wheel... so I was driving around in an unknowingly dangerous vehicle. I had to pay for that lug nut out of my own pocket as well. The store manager refused to return any of my calls. When finally speaking to Ben, he refused to help me and said the general manager would call me back. Neither ever made contact with me. I am writing in hopes this is brought to the attention of the owner and to warn others. It is not worth the groupon discount. To be treated with exceptional professional courtesy and human dignity for a walk-in oil change was a surprise, but Daniel went a step further: he took the initiative to personally accommodate my specific time constraint, though he was under no obligation to do so, and graciously and quietly reorganized the shop's workflow and his own tasks. All because he recognized the struggle in a personal situation which I casually mentioned. Maybe if you're a middle-aged man they think they can't scam, you can get away with coming here but if you're a woman or young person, please just stay away to be safe. I dropped off a car to get the oil changed and an inspection done. A couple hours later, they call me and tell me that the car needs a tune up and fluids flushed and new front breaks...I asked what do they think I need in order to get the inspection to pass. Guy says $449 for new front breaks. Sounds fishy, and I've had people try to scam me into paying for new breaks before. I ask my boss when was the last time she had her breaks serviced - she says two months ago. I call the guy back and say that the breaks had been worked on very recently, and so what he's saying doesn't make sense and the inspection should pass just fine. They won't pass it unless I get the breaks done, so I told them that I didn't feel what they were doing was honest and would like to come pick up the car. They said it was in the middle of the oil change and almost done, so I walk down there...guy at the counter says just 10 more minutes. I had to wait another 30-40 minutes for the oil change to finish, so clearly the oil change had not actually been started and they just hurried to get it in the air before I walked up to at least get that money out of me. While I waited, I checked the Texas DPS website to see what the inspection checklist says about breaks and sure enough the only thing that they're supposed to check is that the breaks aren't grinding and that the car will stop within 30 ft when breaking. When I paid and left, I told them the information I had found, reiterated that what they were doing was wrong, and told them hopefully they can try not to attempt to scam anyone else today. Drove just a couple blocks down the road to a different inspection place, and the car passes inspection with flying colors. I notice there's a couple other reviews here mentioning the same problem...so sad that car mechanics think that they can just scam women and get away with it. I hate the icky feeling of knowing that someone is trying to screw me over because they expect that I won't say anything. You go about your day trying to be kind to everyone, but scammers like this are the reason why a lot of human beings just stop being kind. The comical/awful thing is that they advertise on their street sign that they offer "free break inspections," so I wonder how many times they've scammed someone into paying for stuff they don't need? I normally give relatively high reviews for business because I understand it's hard to manage all customers, but can't help with this one. First they did not take reservations because they said there were too many customers from Groupon, but when I made reservation online, the system seemed fine and didn't notice me that they're not taking reservations before I called in to ask. So I went there early in the morning and there were available spots. But the staff took someone else's order first who came and checked in after I did, and made me wait. So I asked why there were nobody taking my order and then he asked someone to get mine. Also, they didn't do tire rotation because of some stupid reasons like they couldn't find it, and wanted me to do other service that was ridiculously expensive even after discount. Came in for an oil change which took an hour. Would've been 30 minutes but they were running behind even though I had set an appointment. Asked them to check out some sound coming from my car and rather than checking it out, they just drove it around in the parking lot and let me know "it may be from the brakes" If they had taken the time to lift the car and check it out, I may have stayed and paid them to get it fixed?? Groupon oil change visit. Left with a list of about 5 things I needed changed (of course, isn't that how it always works) but the most pressing was all brakes and a rear set of rotors. Just "by chance" they had a special going on for $289 where I could get all 4 brakes/rotors changed (a nearby highly-rated shop quoted me over $500 for this, so I was rightly skeptical, they probably would've changed the pads and nothing else). Called brakes to go and had them give a 2nd look, said all rotors were fine, front pads still had plenty of life, but rear pads were indeed shot. So all in all the service tech at Midas took a rear pad issue and tried to turn it into a 4-wheel brake issue and upsell me. C'mon mannn... OH, and I was about to give a 2-star review, but I watched and watched the service tech to see if he was gonna rotate my tires (as advertised), he took one off, but when I refused to get the brakes fixed there he just put it back on and left me with the oil change. Brakes to Go tech was more than fine with rotating them for me today. Overall, saved $100 from Midas' quote (which was fishy in the first place since the rotors were fine), and another $10 from having to get someone else to rotate my tires. Now I gotta get another mechanic to check the other 4 things they said were wrong and give me a real, honest eval. read more

HUGE WARNING PLEASE READ BEFORE TAKING YOUR CAR HERE! On the 22nd of December 2020. My 2019 Honda Civic Sport was brought in for a Semi-Synthetic Oil change and tire rotation. Yet did I know on the 29th of January 2020 when running a carfax vehicle history report while attempting to sell the car. This specific service center (Midas) incorrect inputted the mileage of the car as 145,236 miles instead of the actual mileage of the vehicle when it was dropped off (10,200). This has caused a huge discrepancy specifically on a sellers review before purchasing the car. I spoke with the general manager about the issue and I was just transferred to another manager supposedly because he was working with another customer. DO not bring your car to this service center as they will likely report the incorrect mileage of your vehicle. read more

They stated that it was an accident, but they had me wait for over 2 hrs even thou it's only a 30 min fix. The guy who supposed to go get the part went to a restaurant and buy food for everyone while I was waiting for him. A 10 min trip took him an hour and half. Stay away from this business. read more

i previously gave a good review after getting my power steering fixed at this shop even though I just came for an oil change but then after a few weeks my harmonic balancer broke conveniently for the, so I took it back to get it fixed. I spent 5,400 through Midas and after getting that fixed my power steering went out. They put the wrong fluid and didn't fill it up allowing air to get in which ultimately will destroy the new pump they put in. The people up front are nice but it is all an act. I suspect they messed around with other areas of my car so I will keep bringing my car back. do not trust any Midas they are all known for this scam read more

I ignored the reviews and called the shop two times yesterday to let them know I wanted an alignment done. The second time they tell me "yeah come in, we're not busy at all." Everything good on the phone. I'm 19 yrs old btw and I do look young and only have basic mechanical knowledge for some context. I get there, I explain why I think it's an alignment issue, and dude in the lobby pulls out the old "yeah we gonna test drive it and see how it feels and whatnot, but if we see anything else is missing or needs repair, I'll show you and you'll need to repair/replace whatever it is before we can do the alignment for you." Man, I was like they gone try to do it to me. But I said ok I'll give em a chance, because I am confident that nothing else is wrong with my car- it runs very smooth- it's just the steering wheel that's a little crooked and uneven tire ware. Whatever, I was just hoping he came back in and said everything else is good we gonna start the alignment. Nope. He comes back in and asks me to follow him out. Shows me the bottom of my car while it's lifted and immediately starts pointing out "damage" which he didn't even try to explain properly. May God forgive me, but this dude just looked like a straight hustler, and not exactly the good kind. So he's just all nonchalantly pointing out so called damage around the car. I would list what he said but I forgot and I left my ticket in the car. The point is, I went in trying to get an $80 alignment using a $20 online coupon, and this dude gives me a total of $2,600 ticket of things I need to get done BEFORE the alignment. I tell him I can't spend that money right now. Then the hustle starts, he says "we could fix it for you right now and you can pay it back in 3 months. We don't check credit." I tell him im not working right now and he proceeds "you don't got any income coming in right now?" I tell him I start work April 1st and wouldn't get my next paycheck until about a month from now and be proceeds "that's what I'm saying! You don't even have to pay right now you could finance it." Lol so I played into his game a little bit by making him think I was one of them but ultimately told him no. To conclude, I don't doubt he might've tried this with me since I am and look quite young and typically most young kids are naive today. But that's just ridiculous. I got my car and got up out of there. Never again. My biggest problem is why couldn't they just have warned me about the fake "inspection" through the phone. There are at least 5 honest independent auto repair shops within a mile of this place that will confirm you don't need these services. Women, BE VERY AWARE!!! On 9/27/22 I took my truck to Midas Auto Service on 4001 Guadalupe in Austin for an oil change. In addition to the oil change, Midas told me that the outer left and right tie rods and the front control arms were bad, and needed replacement, total cost: $2342.67. I was shocked! My truck had less than 50,000 miles and I simply couldn't believe this. I took my truck to two different (respected) auto service shops, Duett's Automotive Service and Dave's Ultimate Automotive Shop. Both inspected the front end and reported that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the front end. Duett's also told me that the oil drain plug was stripped out so badly that it couldn't be drilled out and retreaded. The oil pan would have to be replaced and was leaking so badly that, if it hadn't been spotted, would have lost all oil within a day (Duett's also reported that Midas had installed the wrong oil filter). Midas did note on their repair order that the oil plug was stripped, claiming that it was in that condition when I brought it in. It wasn't! All of the leaked oil was new oil, with no evidence of old, dirty or burned on oil on the undercarriage (photos document this). This looks like a classic case of "cover your ass" by the person who did this. The oil pan replacement, parts and labor, cost $720.29 (we got three different estimates, this was typical). I had it done at Duett's. After this, I didn't want Midas even touching my truck again. I asked Midas to pay for the damage they had caused. They refused. I can't help but wonder if a 30 year old man, wearing a NASCAR ball cap would have told this, rather than a 67 year old woman, there alone. I SERIOUSLY doubt it! read more

I called a different location and they explained that they would have rotated based on the condition of my tires. The manager lied to my face and refused to provide a service that is included with the oil change. I'm truly disgusted. They said they'd call me when it's done. Not hearing back after 3 hours I come back and asked about my car and they looked at me confused. Went in for a simple discounted oil change, confirmed they take apple pay but it's only debit/PIN protected apple pay I guess to prevent CC fraud but I was mislead and had to charge to a different card. No biggie. My main issue however, is when I left following my oil change there was a major leak and my security system was messed with. My car would not stop beeping until I relocked it. When I had my remote key checked, it was fine but the security system was tampered with likely in a lame attempt to get me to come back and have it fixed. Come here if you want to get scammed. They will relentlessly try to get you to replace unnecessary parts and lie to you when you ask the reason. They told me I have to replace my alternator and serpentine belt, but provided no evidence of why. On top of overcharging me on a battery by $70, repeatedly lying about it after I questioned them, charging me $300/hr of labor charges (after I haggled) on a battery replacement, AND waiting 2 hours for them to replace the battery, they left my battery control module unplugged on purpose (they did the same to one of my friends, which is how I know it's on purpose) to get me to come back once the check engine light came on. I fixed it myself and they offered me 3 free oil changes and refused to give me a refund or just change the price to be more reasonable even though they messed up and tried to scam me at every step along the way. I called Midas corporate to explain the situation and they called me from the shop and pretended to be in the corporate office even after I called them on it. I literally heard car honking in the background. I also heard them talking about how they need to get the Google review quota to 4.5/5 and openly hounding people to leave 5 star reviews in front of me. read more
