I've been here once for an oil change, and I knew that my car needed some work done. Not only were they super-helpful about explaining everything that needed to be fixed (and even walked me out to the garage to show me exactly what was happening), but they didn't pressure me to do anything. In fact, I had mentioned we were considering getting a new car in the future, and he suggested I do that rather than make the repairs! Wow! We then purchased a used car, and when we started to have problems with the brakes we took it to these guys. My husband went this time, and he said he had a great experience, too. They explained everything and made suggestions for other repairs that should happen, but there was no pressure. Definitely give this place a chance! read more

First off I went in today (Saturday) on a first come first serve day and Ray was the most helpful and polite individual I've dealt with at a mechanic shop ever and the worker that did the service on the vehicle 2020 Nissan rogue,Anthony very knowledgeable did the full inspection, oil change, tire rotation and wheel alignment in a timely manner and for a fair price one thing I would like to add they they do is they take pictures of what they inspect and what you need change so you can see for your self that is very helpful I will definitely be coming back to this location and shoutout to I believe Bill the manager at this location as well. This place is a complete rip off. Please avoid. Took my car in to replace the brakes which were under warranty. They stated I needed new rotors. The rotors were brand new they were barely replaced a few months ago and the brakes weren't creating grooves into them. When I confronted them about it they were saying it was against the law to change the brake pads without changing the rotors. They are a complete joke. Please go elsewhere. I have brought my car here for a new muffler and brakes. They were able to repair my muffler instead of replacing it, saving me a lot of money. They did an excellent job on my brakes for a very reasonable price. What I really appreciate is the timely service. Both times my car was ready to go in under 6 hours after I dropped it off. I went there Saturday had an appointment online at 930am when I got there they said they emailed me to change it to 11am so I said okay on my day off , came back to shop at 10:35am for my 11am apt I went out for walk to store and came back after 1215am to see what update was I was disappointed to see my car hasn't even been moved they may have good service I don't know I decided to just leave as I had other things to do on my day off. read more

Where do I even start with these bozos... Recently came in for a brake job (rear pads/rotors). While they had my car, they broke my Headlight Switch because they claimed they didn't think the lights would shut off even AFTER I told the manager/desk clerk they would and AFTER we both saw the lights shut off at the same time. Guess he didn't pass the info along. They proceeded to try and charge $135 to fix THEIR mistake. Having never worked on cars myself previously, I decided to take a whack at replacing the Headlight Switch myself. Result? Only 5 minutes of my time and $60. Sad they wanted to over charge so much for something THEY broke and weren't supposed to fiddle with in the first place. Moving along... Brakes still made an odd "reverb" sound. Took my car into another automotive lot to find out the pins on one of the brake pads where work was just done by Midas were put in backwards. Unfortunately another family member had similar happen to her in the past at this same location; leads me to believe someone on staff here doesn't know how to properly put on brake pads, which is fairly pathetic for a Midas (or any automotive repair shop for that matter). Don't trust these guys with your car for any reason. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. read more

I took my car to Midas for an oil change a couple of months ago because I had a coupon. These guys tried to convince me that my serpentine belt was frayed and needed to be replaced. I just had it replaced a few months earlier. I had my car inspected by another service shop a few weeks later and they could find nothing wrong with the belt. The other shop (Cassidy Tire on Ogden) did not even charge me for looking at my car. Big thumbs down in general for Midas. I have had so many bad experiences at many different locations (eg. "fully serviced" brakes that fail every year) in the past that I don't know why I even considered taking my car there for an oil change. I won't ever again, that is for sure. read more

I was down the street on Ogden Ave a couple blocks eating lunch at a nearby Mexican restaurant and noticed my tire was flat as I was leaving. I walked over to this Midas and was greeted kindly and professionally by an employee at the desk. The owner was there and also assisted me by contacting a local tow. When my car was brought back to the Midas, a mechanic plugged and patched my tire for a reasonable $25 and tacked back on with a couple screws some loose plastic with the undercarriage. These guys are straight shooters. Didn't try to upsell me on anything. They just helped me out in a time of need. They've earned my respect and loyalty. I'll be back for all my future vehicle maintenance needs. read more

Today was my third visit in the last year, I have been nothing but impressed not just by how friendly and helpful they have been, but coming from being previously disgusted with chains such as Midas, jiffy lube and those types of establishments, this location does solid work, they're honest and the prices are extremely affordable in comparison. I have gone to Midas several times. But unfortunately, this time around, they have disappointed me greatly. I took a 2011 Traverse to get checked for a check engine light. They told me it was a coil cylinder and spark plugs which would total $900--agreed to fix it. I picked up the vehicle, and within less than 24hrs, the check engine light was on again. I took it a second time; they now stated it was the catalytic converter and asked if there was any other issue I should know. They said only transmission codes, but they do not deal with the transmission. Agreed to fix it for a little over $1,000. Picked it up the next day same issue. They took it a third time, stating it is now the right-side converter. They either do not know what they are doing or just scamming customers. Because before taking it the third time, I took it to a different mechanic shop to get an opinion, and they told me it was the left catalytic converter, I had done with Midas. read more

I took my car here with a very puzzling problem...these guys spent hours test driving it until they reproduced the problem and then figured out what it was when nobody else could or cared to...then they did not charge me anywhere near the amount of time they spent... So first off I wanted to say that I did read the reviews prior to taking my car in. This shop came highly recommended by a friend & family member that used them recently. I must say, I am so glad I did take my car there because they were super friendly, funny, nice and even picked me up and dropped me off (no other mechanics I know have that service). They cut straight to the chase told me what was wrong, what needed fix, gave a couple recommendations and all was good. I did what was needed and on my merry way. Car is working perfectly fine. Last week the manager that I talked with finally called me back to apologies for not calling sooner and letting the matter slip. He also took responsibility for the damages that I had pointed out to him and ask to have the final bill for that repair submitted to him so the shop could pay for it. Took my wife's fleet car here because our regular mechanic is out of the fleet's network even though they accept that fleet (my wife's company would be charged an extra 10% for going out of network). So dropped her car off for an oil change and rear wiper. They told me when it would be ready which worked out fine since I work from home and can walk back to pick it up which I did. The only knock I would say is that they said they would call when ready and should be ready at such time, they never called, I had to call them and found out they had to order the rear wiper for my wife's car. On another occasion, I took my car for front wipers because I don't like the brand of wipers my regular mechanic shop uses. Even though they were busy, the mechanic went out and put wipers on right away. read more

I have to say, I have had VERY good luck with mechanics since moving to Chicagoland 18 years ago (body shops? not so much)! When I moved out to Berwyn, I was wondering where I would find my next mechanic. A close friend, ken, recommended Midas. I thought they just did mufflers and brakes, but they're pretty much full-service mechanics! Bill and Tom are such nice guys--totally not out to rip you off like some I've heard of. In fact, I took my car in for a major tune up, and Bill called me at home an hour later to tell me that my transmission fluid was really F-ed up and I might want to find out what's up with that before I pay him to tune up the rest of the stuff. Luckily it was no big deal--just a flush -n- fill from Aamco (as opposed to a $1000+ rebuild). So I brought her back to Midas to get the rest done. They're great! And they don't treat you like a dumb girl (unless you act like one, maybe). The Chicago mechanics I loved are at Bob and Son Car Care on 31st Street, just in case you were wondering. Before that it was Right Way on Damen (by Irving). That changed owners years ago, but George, the old German man who used to own it told me to get a new car before mine killed me. So I did! Now that's a good mechanic! read more

DO NOT! take your car here. Took my car in to change the brake pads, explaining specifically that thats all I wanted done. After waiting 5 hours for them to look at it, it was anyone who knows nothing about cars worst nightmare, the feeling youre gettin robbed at gun point, by being told your car needs a ton of work it really doesnt need. From brake pads being changed, all of a sudden I needed a ton of work on the car that came out to be about $350. I dont know much about cars but I do know how to change the pads and oil. However in 10 degree weather with snow on the ground I decided to just pay someone else to do it. Big mistake. My wife ended up convincing me to just have them repair all that "needed repair" even though I knew I just needed new pads. I bit my tongue and went along with it only because it is the car my wife drives and she gave me the sad puppy look like "dont you care that your wife is driving a car that needs all these repairs". I knew the rotors didnt need to be replaced or that whatever band they were talking about wasnt really cracked. But I gave them the ok. Two days after the "fix", my shocks were damaged and now it seems like every pot hole I hit, the car is gonna fall appart to pieces on me. This is a 2003 Toyota Matrix. Not a BMW I know, but this car was in excellent condition. Now it seems as though Im driving a 1982 Datsun. We took it back to Midas and now theyre are saying the car has more issues in the wheel area that they could fix. I told them, yeah you need to fix it for free since you damaged it. Of course that didnt work because apperantly they had nothing to do with it. Like I said, this is my fault for being lazy but to everyone out there, dont take your car here unless youre ready to be taken advantage of from the stereotypical mechaninc shop that scares you in to having work done to your car that it doesnt need just so they can make a bit more cash. read more

This summer I took my car in to have the AV repaired. Of course, i was told there were two things which could be wrong w the AC, the condenser and some inner core tube inside the system. the whole dashboard was dismantled and put back by the tech. I paid over $1K, and the AC never worked. Upon returning, the mgr said he forewarned me about the other part getting ready to fail any time and could not repair the problem unless i spent about 600 more to replacr the condenser. I refused. I did come back a couple times bec when I moved the plastic vent flaps, they collapsed, and they tried to say my car was like that when they got it. I never filed a complaint with the BBB or Lisa Madigan, but I might. I will never return here and I advise u to do d same. I cant dispute that the receptionist was super nice, but the manager was stubborn and cold hearted in charging me so much money for nothing. I took the car to Grand Tire & auto afterwards and Chris had the techs do a free inspection; they had me put on a pair of yellow tinted glasses, and showed me where the dye was leaking at...obviously, Midas was out to rip me off. I highly recommend Firestone=Grand Tire & auto, for they are the most honest team i"ve encountered thus far.DONT TAKE A CHANCE, DONT GO TO MIDAS IN BERWYN! PS, when I drive something inside my dashboard rattles, who knows what they did in there. I just hope my airbags work if i ever have a car accident. If they dont deploy, i hope my family files a law suit agaonst them for wrongful death. read more

Even if they can't fix it, such as transmission problems, they'll offer recommendations for local full-service mechanics who have also been reliable. This is the second time that I have brought my car to this particular Midas location. I had just been to my dealership, where they had told me that I needed $1200 of work. I was somewhat skeptical, so I wanted to second opinion. This Midas dealer told me that I did indeed need some of the work that the dealership recommended, but not all. When they gave me the estimate for doing the work, it was considerably less than I would've paid at the dealership. I decided to go ahead and have the work done. Doing the whole process I felt that they took extra time to explain everything very clearly. They never pressured me to buy the work from them. It was a very pleasant, easy experience and I felt quite comfortable about it and good about what I paid, in the long run. read more

I came in the shop today worried that I had a slow leak in one of my tires, since my check tire pressure light came on twice this week. The staff quickly processed my information in the system, and put my car up on the rack to check out my tires. They took the time to thoroughly check each tire to ensure that there were no leaks. Also doubled checked the pressure only to find that one was just a little low. I appreciate their thoroughness, and great customer service!!! read more

They replaced the brake pads and disks on my car in a timely manner and at a decent price but failed to look at a minor issue I was having with a turn signal when I took my car to them a little over a year ago. But the part that irked me was that they also came back with a list of issues and the repair costs - all of them either didn't exist or were made to seem much worse then it was. I'm no mechanic but I know a thing or two about cars and it felt like they were trying to take me for a ride. read more

Those guys are awesome, my dealer told me I needed brakes, but were to expensive. I called Midas and they were less. But when I got there they told me I didn't even need brakes yet. I still had time left. They could have just told me I needed them and never knew the difference, but they brought me out to the car and showed me a new part and how much I had left on my part. Zero stars. Do yourself a favor...do not go here. I have been to Midas twice only to return the same day with more problems than I started with. I have heard horror stories from at least a few people about this place. They cannot change your break pads without making a mistake. They will find other "problems" with your car. I like to do business locally. I think its just right to spend my hard earned dollars close to home. so with that being said i came here to Midas in Berwyn on Ogden ave. Paid the $20 inspection fee (1st mistake as most other places don't charge for inspection). Then i made the mistake (#2) to have them do the work. The manager quoted me almost $200 for parts. As a frugal guy i asked for some consideration on the parts charge since i knew for a fact that break pads even the most expensive, and rotors dont come close to $200. The manager Bill says that Midas cant get the parts as cheap as a consumer at a cheap autoparts would pay. At this point my car is up in the air wheels off and i make mistake(#3). I let them do the work, then as im standing there and the parts delivery guy from O'Rileys shows up with the parts for my vehicle. So having already priced the parts myself i say to Bill, Dude your still going to charge me $200 for the parts you just purchased probably at a discount that i know for a fact to be about $75 bucks, seriously I said. He smiles in my face and says thats how large corporations do business...I got ripped off, no complaints about the tech who did the work even though i know he didnt recieve the hundred dollar labor charge for that one break job. But to double the price of a part is just unreal. Do yourself a favor go somewhere else...Anywhere else is better and cheaper and more honest than this place. Check the prices, ask your friends what they paid. Dont give this place your money, if you do you will leave feeling like a fool, like i did...Please do yourself a favor go someplace else, pepboys is down the road, heck there is a place just across the street from this place 2 of them go there. Dont be a fool, like i was. I really regret the mistake i made here and dont want anyone else to do the same. read more
