Had an insane experience and this Midas shop saved my a**. I was driving south on 94 when my rear passenger tire blew and rolled right off. I was driving on an axle. Luckily I didn't lose control of the car and immediately pulled off at Irving Park and pulled off to the side of the road. "What the f*** am I gonna do?" I thought to myself. I look up and there's a Midas right in front of my face. I'm still a bit nervous because I'm pretty SOL and figure they'd screw me on price. But the attendant showed me the price on his screen, said someone could deliver the tire in 10-15 minutes, and they could get it on in an hour and a half. I went to Lola's Cafe, had brunch, and came back and sure enough it was done. What could have been a total disaster turned into a manageable situation. My car overheated on the highway near the Irving park road exit. We barely got off and to the dude of the road right in front of the Midas. They were about to close but stayed open to look at our car. James, Pedro and Lee were amazing and fixed the thermostat and provided coolant. We can not thank them enough for helping us. I picked my three lunatic kids up from school and almost immediately, I realized I had a flat tire. Pulled over and realized that I was right in front of a Midas. So I walked in and asked if they could help me. The gentleman working the front desk said that they didn't have any tires so he can't help me get a new one until tomorrow but for $25 they can put my spare on for me. This was absolutely dreamy news because I haven't changed a tire in over 25 years and didn't really care to do it today. They were able to fit me in immediately. My youngest was terrified by the whole experience but the guy at the counter gave her a sheet of stickers and suddenly she was in heaven. My first time visiting Midas - Roosevelt Chicago was excellent. Super efficient, fast and honest! I was booked for 3:30 pm appointment and was immediately entertained when I arrived 30 minutes earlier. Within 5 minutes they were able to identify the issue and was told to buy the spare parts. When we came back with the spare parts Nick J. immediately took care of us and again within 5-10 minutes the repair work was done. Nick J. did not charge us for the cost of repair. this is a warning! please read! the only job/service that they are good at are the classic "triple ds":  "defend, deny, divert" simmilar complaint with other "real" comments/ customer reviews: dishonest work, rude, disrespectful (owner, gene, cussed on customers) and over-all horrible customer service experience/business ethics. unresolved complaint-denied their dishonesty and bad workmanship. reported to customer relation and bbb. dishonest job (lied about my converter being bolted. only welding and cement then denied the leak.) there was no bolt around). they just patched up the bad welding job with a cement on my converter and denied there was a leak. i asked where was the bolt, then he immediately took back what he said because my dad, myself and his mechanic heard him saying that it was bolted. now the cement is cracking and falling off.the leak cannot be denied cannot be denied because it can be heard and felt. disrespectful (yelled and cussed at me and my dad after i caught him lying: "i can yell whenever i want! this is my shop! the customer is not always right! if you're wrong,  you're wrong! i own this shop!") he's the receptionist, too, name is gene. he was very rude and gave us horrible customer service by shouting the whole time at us and made us feel stupid. very disrespectful (yelling at me and my dad to  "get your volkswagen out of here! get your car out of here! get the f**k out of here!) he treated us like we're stupid when we were pointing out the issue/complaint. he said "i don't care if you file a report. report to better business bureau, report to whoever. tell your dad!" it happened after i returned to his shop because of my disatisfaction with their work/complaint about replacing my catalytic converter. i learned about their lousy job because of second opinion. extremely unprofessional and condescending by telling that the mechanics who gave me second opinion are "idiots". they just patched up the bad welding with a cementon my converter and denied there was a leak. i asked where was the bolt, then he immediately took back what he said because my dad, myself and his mechanic heard that it was bolted. now the cement is cracking and falling off.the leak cannot be denied cannot be denied because it can be heard and felt.   he kept on cornering me and my dad with "word games". he lied and kept denying and diverting the complaint. i was ripped off. he was only nice when getting the money but when being questioned,  he gets irritated, frustrated, got loud and cussed his customers. save your money and headache from this terrible business. we left traumatized.  this man put midas' name to shame and ruined its reputation. read more

I've had a couple of positive experiences here, but those were in the distant past.  My two visits in the last three months make me think something is amiss here. First, I came in for an exhaust issue. The guy told me he could fix it, but if I paid him cash it would be cheaper & recommended where to find an atm. When paying, the quote shifted slightly. Second was for dim headlights. I was told there is $140 diagnostic fee to check, but if they perform the fix, I would pay parts/labor only. Ten minutes later diagnostic was done & they told me they aren't sure what the problem is, but they can change the bulbs though don't know if it would resolve the issue. Changing bulb quote was $130, (nearly the diagnostic fee.) If you've ever changed your own (or even paid someone else to do it), you know this is unreasonable. The implied alternative was that I could hold off and just pay them the diagnostic fee instead. As I waited for the changing of two light bulbs, two people associated with the business spoke openly and inappropriately for a customer waiting area. They disparaged someone else who worked there (but wasn'tpresent), discussed how bad business was and were generally unpleasant to listen to. Bad vibes here. Do yourself a favor and avoid. Will not be back and will discourage others from visiting. read more

I took my car here because I needed my back brake pads/shoes/etc. replaced. Midas always has coupons on their website so I decided to give this location a shot because people seem to like them. I made an appointment on a Saturday which wasn't that hard to get. This surprises me since most shops are super busy on Saturdays since lots of people have the weekends off and don't want to come in on a workday. I took the first appointment of the day so I was the only customer here. The waiting area is nice and there's a Keurig with a few options. There was a TV and they changed the channel for me since I was the only person there. They also had wifi and chargers for phones which was awesome. I was only here for about an hour, which was perfect. The price I paid was exactly what they quoted me up front (after inspecting the vehicle) and the service was really nice. After the inspection, I even asked to go see the wheels while they car was up and the mechanic explained how the brakes actually work and what I was paying for, which was super nice. He didn't talk to me like an idiot, which is rare for any woman dealing with any aspect of car purchasing, maintenance, and/or repair. I'll definitely come back for similar jobs in the future as my car needs them. read more

Dropped the car off for an 11 am appt, they told me 3 hrs for an alignment, called me at 5:30 pm that the car was ready. Upon arriving, they tell me the car couldn't get the needed alignment because the control arms were bent from what could've been a time it was towed, accident, which it's been in neither. Quoted me $600 for rear control arms which are now bent, and were not bent when I took it in. Stay far away from this place, they will be hearing from me again very soon. read more

I am new to Chicago, and I went to Midas when the "low engine oil pressure" error message displayed on my dash. The necessary repairs were completed. Immediately after, the car began running rough, and three new error messages began to display. I took the car back to Midas. The manager insisted that the new problems were in no way connected to their work. He offered a $115 diagnostic test while still denying that their work on a car that has always been serviced in a timely manner caused even one of the three new problems. I was there for the alignment work in 2017 and had one year warranty for it. After 8 months of driving my Toyota I had some problems with alignment. I decided to call them and check see if I still have that warranty is active or not. I called them and asked can I make an appointment for the wheel alignment and they said "yes, just come and will get you in right away" as soon as when I arrived to the location I told them that my warranty on this car still active and I don't need to buy new one. After hearing what I said they put me on three hours of waiting time. It was really strange for me! I mean when I called them they said we get you right away, I assume it is only for the work that is paid. But not that comes with warranty! Finally after three hours of waiting they pulled my car and gave the key and said "you are done-car is ready". There were not any printed report like they usually do when something was done. Currently sitting in their waiting room trying to pick up my partner's car after getting brakes done. They tried to upcharge him for things he didn't want or need. Took several attempts to get them to do what he asked. They quoted him $250. Then, after he agreed, it was $325 for the exact same service, no changes or additional work/parts needed. Come to pick it up and it's actually $375 because they didn't include taxes or "shop supplies" in either estimate. Total rip off. The actual cost ended up being 50% higher than what they quoted. That should be illegal. Edit: Owner Gene called my partner and left him a message saying that I'd left a "really nasty" review and claiming they'd been very clear about the charges and that "there is of course tax always added and shop supplies". Funny, since whenever I get a quote, taxes are usually included and, at the very least, there is never a surprise "shop supply" cost that for some reason isn't a part of the quote. read more

I called today at 8 a.m. and was asked if I had an appointment and I said that's why I'm calling. Was told not possible today and maybe Thursday. I have taken several of my cars to Midas over the past years..but what really makes me keep coming back here is the hard work and honesty that the managers here provide. Eddie and Gene are stand up guys and always guide me through all of my car issues. I'm far from car savvy and they make things simple to understand. They manage to always have a spot ready for me..repairs are quick and everything works great when I get it back...the shop is clean plus they have coffee and lots of great places to eat right next door. I literally had to send my gray haired mother to Eddy alone for help with a stolen catalytic converter. I prepped mom for what is a reasonable price, gave her watch-the-upsell speech, don't be afraid to ask for a discount etc. Eddy couldn't have been nicer to her: he explained it all to her and let her take pictures of the car up on the lift to send me and told her about how the theft process happens. One year ago I foolishly let myself spend $1600 on car repairs at this place, one of them being a front left wheel bearing. Literally the next day of driving, I was skeptical if various work was done because it's hard for me to care about cars or pretend like I know what I'm talking about at a mechanic shop in order to keep myself from being taken advantage of. Come to find out now, one year later, that they for sure did not give me a new front left wheel barring in the first place. I had to pay for a new one this last weekend. Came here with a Groupon for a wheel alignment. Appt made and came in for service. Couple of hours later I pickup the vehicle and get the car and the receipt. However, at every shop I've had an alignment done, I get a paper report on the alignment analysis before and after work was done. Didn't get such a report. "I'm the owner! And I AM the most important person here!" Living in the area for a while this was my go to oil change place and even some post warranty repairs. Shane was a nice manager who shot it straight. Then the shop was sold I think late 2012. It's funny how the stigma is that corporations suck and as long as it's a franchise you have a shot at good service. Well it was a corporate shop with solid service, sold to a franchisee and now has service that I hope can't get any worse. Ok let's not jump on them completely; they did put in a new TV while you wait for them to upsell you on secondary repairs. Since going there under new ownership (I stopped in January) I experience bad oil changes (not actually doing the full 30 pt. check otherwise a faulty windshield wiper would've been caught.), terrible waiting time, poor service from start to finish and the most ungrateful owner of any business I've met. The new ownership has two guys to my knowledge. One is a soft spoken guy who has been helpful & nice (too bad he doesn't run the place). The other is a meat-head, who aside from caking on the AXE body spray in a small waiting room, has the social skills of a bitter & failed high school football player. When I confronted him on a sub-standard oil change I was not yelling just frustrated I needed to come back in so soon. Never did he apologize, nor did he even call when they finally finished the corrective work hours later. So far that's all stuff I normally would let go but since d-bag owner decided to verbally dress down my girlfriend and tell her that she was wrong and continuously remain apathetic to a dissatisfied customer I press on. Rightfully agitated, she did say that she's surprised that he's acting this way to her since she's a customer. The genius owner replied with "well, I AM the OWNER! And I'm the most important person here!" I feel terrible that hard working mechanics are having their livelihoods tied to such an inept leader and owner. If my car broke down outside this Midas, I'd call the owner over to have him watch me push the car to another shop. ***Here's the owner's reply sent to me. I have to take a minute to commend these guys. The staff is the highest level of professional and kind. They took my car right away, had the patience to hear out all my questions and concerns and got back to me surprisingly fast to let me know the prognosis. What really impressed me though was Eddie, who I believe is the manager, offered options in different price ranges without any pressure to spend outside my comfort zone. They're an honest efficient crew and clearly care about their customers. The stress of having to get my car repaired was significantly alleviated because of Eddie and the staff. Took my pathfinder here because there was a squeaking noise coming from underneath the car. They quoted us at $794 to replace the entire exhaust system....obviously I don't have $794 to get a car fixed we hardly drive so I took it out to the burbs and to T&S in West Chicago and they fixed the loose heat plate for free (Midas didn't say anything about a heat plate being loose) and replaced the rusted off muffler for $260. Seriously, I will never go back to that Midas for ANYTHING....I feel bad for the people who go here and think it's the final word...I hope some people read these reviews because the Irving Park Midas people are just trying to rip you off (especially if you're a girl!) I brought my car in for an oil changed and to have them inspect what may be wrong with my car as it would shake a bit while driving at a higher speed. They told me that the struts were bad which caused my tie rods to be loose. I needed an alignment, and it would cost me over$2000. They also said I should get it done right away as it was dangerous. A friend recommended a second opinion so I went to another mechanic which said all of that was fine on my car. I had a bubble in my tire that was causing the shaking. Under $100. Shame on them for trying to scare and cheat a woman who came to them for help. I highly recommend staying away from there! read more

Went there for a simple oil change and inspection with a coupon. Got my car back, fine. A week later, my car is running funny. Something just wasn't right. I popped my hood and the oil cap was missing. AKA - they forgot to put it back. I bought a cap immediately and called them up. They offered to replace the cap, all I asked for was another change of oil and filter and a flush - who knows what ended up in there, dirt and such. I just told them that if anything comes of this with the engine I'll be back. They were nice about it and did as I asked, but who forgets to put the cap back on!?! So I called a competitor of Midas first. (It started with an F and ends with an E) my car needed a bunch of work done to it. I gave Fire...e a list of what it needed. I was told I needed to drop the car off on a Saturday for a whole day so they can look at it. I just had a baby two weeks ago and have a 28 month old toddler at home. Leaving the car for a day just didn't work. I just wanted to know prices..... I had called Midas as another option and got a hold of Gene. He was busy you can tell but at the same time was SO accommodating! He gave me what I needed within just a few minutes. He heard one of my boys in the background and said we can pick your car up for you and drop if off the same day! I thought wait, did I just hear that!?!? Who does that?!? It was a win win!! The last thing my husband and I want to do is have our car serviced with a brand new baby. Gene and his team were so accommodating! I've been going to a Midas for the last 10 years. Horrible service! I came for a wheel alignment, I waited for 5 hours while I saw multiple people come in and out while I was in the waiting room... Just to be told that they couldn't do anything with my vehicle. I was told it was max 3 hrs for me to come in and out with the vehicle to be serviced.. Talk about great service! Usually bring my car here for oil changes. Came in today for the usual and found out it was taken over by a new owners. Was pleasantly greeted the second I walked in by Gene. I was happy w/ the improvements in customer service and the decor which was very clean, for once I didn't mind waiting, but was even more happy when I got in my car and noticed it was vacuumed, windows washed, and an air freshener offering another discount for my next service!
