Probably the longest oil change I have ever had. We had an appt at 12:00. We received a review of the car at 3:15. Mind you when I made the appt for the oil change. I asked for a tire rotation as well. Since my car had been there before and they were aware of the tires when I made the appt and said that would not be a problem. I thought. That would NOT be a problem. But when they were dealing with my son, they started to have an issue with rotating the tires all of a sudden. I would have gone elsewhere had I known it was going to be such a hassle to get what I asked for in a timely manner without having to arguing about it. You can go down the street to Pepboys for the same price and it will be done in way less time and hassle. read more

Was having one of those days where everything that could go wrong did go wrong and then on my way home from work my engine splash guard decided to come part way undone and drag along the road. I have called to see if Midas will replace a oil sensor that I believe it needs to be replaced. When I arrived, I asked for a cost to replace but instead they wanted to sell me a $150 diagnostic (scam) to verify if it is actually a oil sensor. Most places would charge you this diagnostic and adjust this towards the sensor. Not here. After all is done they ran this diagnostic and offered another $80 dye test and come back next week again. I get it, they want to make sure it is actually the oil sensor is defective but it was not like I did not tell them initially and went in without knowing what the issue is. After 3 hours of the mechanic testing this theory they finally told me that it is the sensor and at the point with all the incurring cost they added. I wanted to cut my loss and leave. They finally was willing to remove the dye cost $80 but kept the diagnostic and the sensor which left me a little under $500. It was costly experiences for a sensor I wanted to just replace but they kept adding charges which honestly, I did not like. I understand their standpoint, but I a was surprised they did not see the oil leak around the oil sensor in the first place. I went in for a front end alignment after having some front end components replaced. Anthony "store manager" told me I needed new tires (cuz they couldn't do the alignment otherwise) and the upper control arms were on installed backwards. And he needed to adjust my ball joints. Quoted $1400 worth of labor. Only to have a different story once I showed up in person. The arms were on correctly and tires still had about 70% tread left. They tried to do the alignment and could not do it successfully. He tried to upsell me on shit I did not need and in the end couldn't even do the alignment because they didn't know what they were doing. I went to Pep Boys down the street and they did it no problem no issues. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place they have very low experienced (kids) technicians and a kid store manager, trying to upsell customers. read more

I Paid $750 for new rotors and my brake pads, rotors changed. Then the next day my front right tire started getting hot and smelling like burnt rubber. I didn't have this problem before I went to Midas, so I went back and they tell me a have a caliper issue, it damaged my new rotors and I have to spend more money. And i bought the warranty for my rotor and they tell me they can't use the warranty because "the caliper damaged the rotor the rotor didn't fail". Do Not Get Your Car Fixed Here!! I brought my vehicle in to be checked for an oil leak and not knowing much about vehicles they could've taken advantage of me and ran up the cost. They did not do that! They thoroughly went through my car checked everything in while doing so explained it thoroughly to me, I had work done on my car outside of their store so they had no reason to give me any extra attention. They found the problem explained it to me, wrote up an estimate so that I could go back and properly address the situation with the first business they could've taken advantage of me, and chose not to any work. But the way I got my vehicle back very very unprofessional I payed $1200 on oil change and brakes to receive my vehicle back full of grease and oil on every panel. went to this Midas to get my brakes changed because they are under warranty. I chose this Midas because the one in Berwy,IL tried to rip me off (see my previous review). Once again this Midas told me I needed new rotors, mind you I changed these rotors less than 2 weeks ago because the previous Midas tried to rip me off. Before I told them my rotors were new I asked them to show me what's wrong with them. the "mechanic" and Vince (guy at the desk) tried to say that the rotors were used up and old without even taking my tire off. I walked in and the man at the desk informed me , he didn't have a technician, he called in sick. Really you only have one? I called a couple days later and made a appointment for 11 am. Here I am!! I had my shocks replaced at this location 2 weeks ago. My car started making a strange grinding sound. I brought my car back and "Mike" at the front desk told me they'd look at it. After waiting an hour he told me one of the shocks they installed was bad and they'd replace it. After replacing the shock, the noise was still there. Then, Mike said it was the wheel bearing and would be $77.00 to replace the wheel bearing if it took the noise away and it did not. I suggested the other rear wheel bearing but he suggested both front hub assemblies for $1200.00 but then suggested not to get it done at all because they can't determine where the noise is coming from???!! Then I called today after consulting with a friend and suggested that the noise is coming from the other side rear of the car where they didn't replace the wheel bearing and if they could replace the other side. He now changed the price from 77.00 to 246.00!!! He's a crook DO NOT GO TO THIS MIDAS LOCATION!!! read more

This is my third trip to Midas in Westchester. No it is not because they did not fix the problem, rather I came in to get my exhaust fixed. They did a great job in doing the work and kept me posted. So I came back with a check engine light on. I always associated Midas with mufflers only. I was wrong. They are very knowledgeable in all aspects of car repair and maintenance. I brought my 2004 Suburban here back in the fall and had an absolute nightmare of an experience. I brought it in originally to have the brake pads/rotors changed and to get an alignment. Before they began the work I notified the technician that I had wheel spacers on the truck and they need to be removed and reinstalled to do the work, which they assured me was perfectly fine. I believe I was quoted a little over $300 for this work. All was good and dandy until I got a call from Midas saying they couldn't take off the wheel spacers, which I knew was complete BS, since I installed the spacers myself and have removed them several times with ease. They claimed the spacers had "wheel locks" on them, which also was a lie, and the only way they could remove them and continue the work would be manually chiseling every one of them off. They told me this would bring the total up to $824! At this point I was in shock..I'm a working college student with not very much money to my name and only agreed to this labor because it was within my budget. When I told them to forget it and just put everything back they told me this isn't an option. To this day I do not understand how removing some spacers would push the price up an additional $500. And to top it all off, once I picked up my truck at the end of the day, it wasn't even aligned! They charged me $100 for it and did NOTHING. I called the shop and told them this and the next day they took it back in and actually fulfilled the alignment. If you want to pay 3 - 4 times what a repair costs this is the place to go. Recently I stopped to get a quote for exhaust work on an older vehicle. A muffler, tailpipe and the pipe from the converter to the muffler. I was quoted over $1,200.00 ???. Being an older vehicle I've had this same work performed a couple of times in the past and being a car guy I had a pretty good idea of what the job entailed and what it approximately should cost. I asked why so much and was told there was a lot of welding required. I know that all the pieces are clamped together and the only welding required are a couple of tack welds for the hangers. I had another shop do the job and it cost me in the upper $300 range, (parts, labor, tax), using quality brand exhaust components. A side note. I stopped in mid-day and while waiting for the estimate I noticed all the service bays, five or so and all were empty. Kinda tells you something. read more

I was having trouble opening up my hood so I took my car back to the dealer, they tried to charge me $70 to look at the car and $250 to fix it (without even looking in the first place) I took it over to Midas and they fixed the problem in less than 5 minutes. The workers are friendly, the customer service is outstanding I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!! 10/10 would recommend, this will be the only place I go to from now on. read more

I recently had some exhaust work completed on my car. The estimate was for parts and labor, which was for 1 1/2 hrs to complete the job. The part was not in stock. It took approximately 30 mins to get the part and approximately another 30 mins to remove the old and install the new piece. Total of 30 to 40 mins worth of work. I went to pay the bill and asked if the price would be adjusted based on it only taking 1/3 of the time. No, said the gentlemen from behind the desk, the price is based on "book rate" which stated 1 1/2 hrs to complete. He would stick to that rate, no deviation as the time took into consideration all the tools the mechanic had to buy. I am well aware of "book rate" and the cost of tools, however, they are clearly padding their pockets at the expense of customers. I was charged for approximately 1hr of work that was not needed. ***Buyer beware**** Shop around, there are numerous places on La Grange Rd to have this type of work done! Went here as my first choice as it was related to the exhaust and didn't want to bring it to my regular mechanic. My 2013 Jeep Wrangler was making a loud sound like the muffler went out but it was the exhaust pipe in the middle that separated maybe an inch. The bolts had to be replaced, no parts needed other then the bolts. Service was quick, efficient and I was quoted $320.00 for two hours of work since the bolts were broke and they had to be heated up to be removed. Work didn't take two hours but rather maybe 40 minutes and the charge was $300.00. In retrospect now, I think the price of $300.00 was rather excessive. Still happy with the service- just think the price was high. Jeep is now quiet. read more

Went to the Midas in Countryside and it looks like the ownership has changed...as well as the friendly environment that used to exist. I went in for my typical oil change and brought a coupon for a synthetic blend oil change. The new guy there told me that I could not use the coupon because my car required OW-30 oil which the synthetic blend did not support. I told him I wanted the synthetic blend with 5W-30 from the coupon and he proceeded to tell me that "I know what you want but your car requires OW-30 oil so you need a synthetic." I told him again and he again responded with "I understand what you want sir but...". So I walked out. Nissan RECOMMENDS OW-30 oil which is only available via full synthetic. However, as stated in the owners manual, as an alternative, you may use 5W-30 oil without voiding the warranty, which the synthetic blend does support. Not a pleasant experience and I will not be going back again. Of course the full synthetic was double the price - perhaps that had something to do with the memory loss/arrogance. I would not listen to their "recommendations". read more

I brought my car to VW for an oil change, and t hey said the front breaks needed to be done for $480. Never would I do repairs at a dealer, so I brought the car to Midas. They claimed that I needed both front and back replaced for $680! If the dealer did not think I needed work done, of course that was a red flag when the dealer never mentioned back brakes, yet suddenly I need new pads and roders?? Finally brought the car to a guy in N Riverside who said the back brakes are absolutely fine, and charged me under $300. I am a young woman, so I assume Midas thinks that I'm an idiot. Never again. ZERO stars. I went there for an oil change. I never go anywhere but a small shop near the house. I went there because I was working in the area. I should have known better. You enter. It's a small place. Bill seems nice. But he's really a liar and is shady as can be. He's out there to take your money. After the oil change he said "your car looks great" but "we did find an oil leak". He wanted to degrease the area and wanted me to come back another day so he can identify the problem. He said it may be the intake manifold and or the gasket. I came back two days later. He said the oil is leaking from the valve cover gasket and that it would be a simple and cheaper fix than the intake manifold. So I was relieved. Almost $500 later....I drove home with no worry on my mind. Bill insisted that the car was free of leaks and in great shape. The next morning I woke up to 2 1/2 quarts of oil missing from my car and all over my garage. I came in the next Monday and told Bill about it. He seemed surprised and said he'll take care of me. I called corporate to document what had happened so that I could be helped further if he couldn't satisfy me. He told me "this is strange. The oil is leaking from the oil pan now. You must have hit something." And he started talking about the oil pressure and that after replacing the valve cover gasket that the pressure increased and caused the pan to leak. And of course I questioned how they didn't spot the leak at first when they replaced the valve cover gasket. And of course he claimed that it was coincidental. I was put in contact with the owner of that location. And he did nothing but feed me with bs. They wanted me to pay for half the labor and he would pay for a rental car so I can work. I wasn't satisfied so I went to my mechanic to pay FULL PRICE over risking allowing Midas to touch my car. Yesterday I checked my oil. And it was bone dry. My mechanic says it's leaking from the valve cover gasket. I called corporate again and they are supposed to put me in contact with the owner again. They replaced the gasket free of charge. But guess what? A check engine light went on the next day. Multiple misfires and another issue. I don't recall the exact wording. Basically, I brought it elsewhere and paid to have it fixed. They had caused a vacuum leak and didn't clamp a hose. Not a big deal. But it cost me most money. This is a huge waste of my time AND MONEY. Mom and Pop shop is the way to go. The Honda dealership quoted me over $700 to resurface the front rotors and replace the back rotors on my 2010 Odyssey. Bill gave me a quote that was MUCH lower (less than $300) and was able to complete the job the same day. His shop completed a thorough inspection of the vehicle and didn't try to sell me a bunch of unnecessary services. The work was completed on time and they gave me a copy of the inspection checklist and a 1 year warranty on everything they did. Bill was friendly and a pleasure to deal with. I would definitely return in the future and recommend his shop to anyone. read more
