After holding a good 45 minutes I was able to give my info to Cindy in Customer Service who assured me someone would call me today. And I believed her. Yesterday I was on hold for one and one half hours until 5:15pm when I was cut off because they are on the east coast, therefore EST, and they were now closed. I went in with my newer Honda Odyssey for preventative work, a 4 wheel alignment and I purchased the lifetime warranty. This deal is very good as we keep our vehicles for many years. I can go to any location even nearby our Florida home near Destin, Florida. The technician that worked on my vehicle was very clean and professional, as was the advisor. Great experience of installation of 4 new Michelin Defender 2 all season radial tires. I pretty much knew what tire I was looking for prior to installation; it's a higher end all season radial that is designed to last longer tire. 3 other tire dealers had the same online price. I'm a person that believes - you get what you pay for. I had Michelin tires on previous vehicles & towed a 20' boat; the tire always wore good, & stopping in rain while towing was never an issue. I went to Pep Boys on Tuesday 10/14 & met with Carmine. Great guy with a sense of humor! He ordered the tire for a 10/15 installation. I was shown the DOT # on the new tires when I arrived for my 4pm appointment. (DOT # shows the year tire came off assembly line). I also inquired about a battery check, since winter will eventually be here. He said no problem & it would be a free checkout. I then decided to just have the battery replaced. Originally, I took it to a shop down the street from this Pep Boys location, and that shop quoted me a little over $800 for the needed repairs, which included 4 new tires. They told me they needed to order the tires, so I should return when they arrived. I was on a time crunch, and the arrival time was not guaranteed. I drove around looking to see if I could find another auto shop which would have what I needed for cheaper. Lo and behold, Pep Boys was a Godsend. Not only did they take a look at my car, but were able to save me from purchasing 4 new tires, when they told me I really only needed 2 new ones. Additionally, they did some minor repairs, and I was out the door for about $400 in about an hour. They also gave me a report and told me to come back in a few months to get additional repairs. Pep Boys told me that the store I went to originally was just trying to upsell me, for parts and repairs that weren't necessary at the time. Finding a trustworthy, honest, and fairly priced mechanic is always a crapshoot. If you don't know much about cars, people can upsell you for services not needed. This was not the case at the Pep Boys in La Grange. The whole staff was friendly, honest, and just "kept it real" - something I always appreciate. If you have car problems, I highly recommend this location. While I live in Chicago, I will happily make the short travel down to La Grange to have them service my car. 5/5 stars. read more

Here is a tale of the worst customer experience I have ever had: My fuel gauge was not working. As I had been a fairly loyal customer of Pep Boys, I took it to this location to have it repaired. Some $1100 later, they sent me on my way. A couple days later, while ON THE EXPRESSWAY, my car died. The cause? I was out of gas. The gauge read over a quarter of a tank when this happened. I called and, naturally, complained since their repair had put me in a life-threatening situation. Pep Boys was unconcerned. "Bring it back - we'll try again!" Any refund offered? Nope. Any apologies? Nope. But, as it was either let them try again or pay someone else another $1100, I went back. They "fixed" it again. Except they didn't. I noticed that my miles driven did not correspond to where the fuel level should have been. I explained this to "Ike" (store manager). He told me that clearly I didn't know how to read the fuel gauge of the car I had driven for over 10 years and 180,000+ miles. So, I filed a complaint with corporate. I was promised that the regional manager, Anthony Moncanny, would contact me right away and make this right. He didn't, and instead made Ike call me and again explain that I didn't know how to read a fuel gauge. Calling Ike on his BS, I brought the car back in for them to "inspect". They said their repair was perfect, and I should stop complaining. I rebutted, and asked what their plan was the next time their incompetence put me in a life-threatening situation. Ike told me that he would go with me to the gas station and have me brim my tank. By his estimation, I would be able to take no more than 8 gallons of fuel. He smugly sat in my passenger seat, continuing to explain to me how fuel tanks worked. It took 12 gallons. He was only off by about 30%. Called corporate again to renew my complaint. Finally (after 5 tries) made contact with Mr. Moncanny, who offered me $100 for my troubles. I demanded a full refund. He said it would be $100, and don't let the door hit me on the way out. Did their latest repair work? I don't know - I distrusted it so much that I broke down and bought a new car. So there you have it. Your well-being is worth about $100 to Pep Boys. People working here PUT OUR LIVES AT RISK!! They forgot a screwdriver, players, and oil cap lose inside the hood. As they closed it, they broke the hood lash. They took months to fix it after calling multiple times to the corporation. They gave me a conventional oil change for free to compensate for the damage. MY CAR USES synthetic people. Don't you read the records? Or did you want to blow up my car intentionally? You probably might say or that wouldn't happen to me! Well, a mom with 3 kids came while I was there and asked them whether oil was on her garage floor after she had an oil change at the same location? I went to get my brakes checked. After looking at my car they said I need new front brakes and rotors. In addition, they said my back brakes needed to be clean. I had my rotors replaced last time I changed my brakes so I decided to get another estimate. The dealership said my brakes and rotors were fine and had 50 percent life on them. The pads were just rusting since I wasn't driving much anymore. Pep boys is just trying to take advantage of people. Avoid at all cost. read more

I've come into this location twice now. The first time to get the battery changed on my car remote and the second time to have tires installed that had been ordered from tirerack.com. Both times were consistent in friendly, respectful and top notch customer service. The men who I had the pleasure of working with were helpful, kind and pleasant. They kindly changed the battery in my remote for less than $6. I'd have paid $25 at the dealership. The next time I came In, which was the tire install, was really no different. As I sat in the waiting area, the manager came by to see if he could get me anything to drink while I waited. I don't get this kind of attention or care at my dealership (BMW). I can say that I'd highly recommend this location to any of my friends for their automotive needs. In this day and age where chivalry and common courtesy appear to have died, they are alive and well at this Pep Boys. I'm going to tell my friends and you should make sure to do the same! read more

The service writer asked me what type of car it was and I told him a 2012 Chevy Corvette and he said okay you're all set see you at 4. I get there at 4 and the same service writer looks at my tire and says "oh these tires are too wide and won't fit in our machine. I asked him didn't he check the tire size after I told him what kind of car it was this morning and he said oh no sorry. My car had only 7000 miles when I had the alignment and now it has 10000 and i have to buy 2 new tires and the shop would not take any responsibility for their work . My last visit to this Pep Boys was fantastic! l recently purchased a battery from Auto Zone on Ogden ave. The problem is this, Auto Zone will sell you a battery for your motorcycle, but fails to tell the custmer that the battery needs to be charged. l return to Auto Zone and they don't charge it for you. Not to mention, the manger is a total jerk! So l took the ''dead'' battery and brought to Pep Boys on Sep 7th at 6pm and they charged it for me with no hassle and it took only 20min. The company computer was indicating I should be charged a certain amount for the repair due to the labor process, but the salesperson and repairman were, like, "Whaaat? Where do I start. I called the day before to A.) make and appointment and B.) make sure the buy 3 get the 4th tire for a dollar for the Cooper tires worked with my vehicle. They guy on the phone said yes and that the tires where in stock. So I made the appointment for the next day on Feb 8th, 2022 for 9am. Ok, I go the next day at 9am and the guy working the check out is ready to set me up AND in walks the manager. And just like that the buy 3 tires and get the 4th for a dollar disappears. The deal magically expires. I said "wait", the guy over the phone yesterday say the deal was still on and I told him it's on your website. The manager goes, "Fine prove it to me. Show me the website." Challenge excepted...I pull out my phone and boom there it is, I show it to the manager and all the sudden, his tune changes but, now he's not going to give me that deal because, of course that deal is not for my "specific tires" he can only give me the lesser deal of $100 off the total bill. Fine, I didn't feel like arguing. So we go with that deal. I let the guys do the work, it literally took them half the day to do the job. So I make an appointment at 9am and my vehicle isn't not done until almost 2pm!!! Lastly, they give you "free roadside assistance" if you register for it on Pepboys website. Well low and behold the manager enters a bogus transaction number or voided that number because when I go to register for that, Pepboys website of course, tells me that the transaction number needed to complete the registration CANNOT BE FOUND. So no "free roadside assistance". Seriously, this manager at the Pepboys in Hodgkins/Countryside IL is nothing short of a crook. You will be fighting this jerk the entire time. You just feel like you are getting ripped off at every angle with him lying and trying to tell you the deals expired to entering a bogus transaction number etc..etc... The guy was just out to get you one way or another. This guy should be fired but, I am sure the franchise owner loves him because he probably brings in big numbers because, he is screwing everyone that walks through the door. It drained all the oil on my way home and killed my engine. And when telling me that they could not fix it, they acted as if it were not a big deal. "Eh, your car is dead. Sorry. - shrug-" They had to pay to replace the entire engine. I was without my car for 4 weeks because the engine was on back order (truthfully through no fault of their own, but still...the original problem was their fault). The only positive thing I can say about the interaction is that they did not give me grief in paying for their mistake. They paid the car dealer upfront and reimbursed me for the rental car. Went in there to get my tire repaired having a screw in it & they are the ones that noticed that my tires were a bit wobbly because there were no spacers installed with the wheel rims that I had purchased at Discount Tires, which made me furious because of putting me in danger when I had found this out. I was very grateful to these guys & went back there the next day after work to get the spacers installed that Pedro had ordered for me with trusting them to do the job. This store has all the automotive parts and accessories. They take care of me when I replace tires. Don't even think about recharging your air conditioning with a mechanic. They'll take you for between $149.00 to $200.00. Pep boys will sell you a can of R-134 refrigerant for $14.95 on sale including the pressure gauge on the hose. If you want them to do it they'll charge $94.95. A company has to be doing many things right to be a national chain like they are. I recommend them. read more

My son and I dropped off our vehicle for a rotation of tires and a slow leak in one of the tires ( the sensor went on and you can't tell which tire it is). I had made an appt. over the phone and they actually confirmed it online and sent me email. they said about an hour. we dropped it off and told them to call us while we went back home to work and the car wasn't ready until until 6pm or so. When I picked it up the mgr. said the wheels didn' t need rotating as they were relatively new and worn evenly. but that they fixed the flat which was a nail in the tire and wouldn't charge for it. I told him I purchased all new tires at Pep boys with the road hazard and I wasn't supposed to pay for repairs. There wasn't one mechanic I went to that I was really happy with until I came back home and went to Pep Boys. The guys at Pep Boys in Hodgkins (Pedro, Dave, and Salvador) have been incredibly helpful every time I've brought my car in. I've had my oil changed there, of course, and they've done check-ups; each time they gave me honest feedback. I most recently purchased new tires for my Honda Fit for a great deal. The nice thing is that the employees at the Pepboys in this location is that they give honest advice to the customers but don't make you feel cornered into making purchases you can hold off on, unlike other places I've been to.
