My years in the Automotive business taught me you can't please all the people all the time. So, after the excellant service I got at Midas Muffler Shop & Complete Auto Service at 680 West 7th St in Eugene, Oregon, I decided to write a review after reading a few of the dissatisfied reviews on Yelp that rated the shop at a 3 1/2 Star Rating. When an industry has a less than stellar reputation, expectations from many customers color their perceptions and are many times never pleased because of those reasons and nit pic and complain about trivial things that are bound to happen in a busy shop. When I see a busy shop I see that as a plus, not the whiners and petty folks that never give good reviews. The first bad review on Yelp I saw the reviewer showed his ignorance right away complaing that he was miffed that he was charged an hour rate for a job he felt took a half an hour. Auto shops charge according to the "Chilton Manual" If the shop has a pro that can do the job in less time, is a good thing because there will always be a tech person that takes longer than Book Time. This reviewer bragged he knew alot about car repair but oviously was blowing smoke to justify his ignorance. It's hard for any business to get 5 stars across the board no matter if they deserve it. In the food service industry a good chef will hav e a bad day for example and get the one star review that brings the average down putting out a dish that is sub-par to the restuarants normally high standards. The owner of the Midas, Steve, went above and beyond great customer service and gave me a ride home because Eugene had a snow storm and the cab company I had a booking set to pick me up at the time I dropped my truck off after my usual auto shop recommended I take my truck t9 Steve, Unfortunatley, for my old shop, Steve won my business now as he gave me a ride home in the snow storm that hit so hard my cab company could not honor my pick up reservation as they only had five cabs working. So, hopefully my five star rating will catch his shop up to the four stars that is about as good as it gets for Aiuto Repair shops anywhere. He did it out of a good heart and his shop rates are lower than most. read more

They were very communicative, paid $100 less for a diagnostic than another popular auto repair place ($150 vs $250) in the area too. I've been here before to get my battery replaced and I trust them to do good results. They worked with my budget and repaired what needed to be immediately fixed, and told me what will need to be fixed in the future (tight budget) I thought I'd have to wait 3 days but they got me fixed up same day! My breaks recently started squeaking, and I decided to take the car in for new break pads. After calling around for about an hour, I was being quoted over $500 at most places in Eugene for a simple pair of front break pad replacements. Most places were insisting on rotor replacement regardless of the actual wear to the rotors, and were scheduling me a couple days out. Midas came in well under that, didn't insist on rotor replacement if it wasn't needed, and got me in same day. They checked and called to tell me I still had about 15,000 miles left before needing to replace my pads, and didn't charge me anything for the inspection/storing my car overnight because I couldn't pick up until the next day. As a young woman I'm always wary of auto shops tacking on services, doing unnecessary work, or upcharging, and I really didn't have to worry about that here. Highly recommend stopping by for a fix or routine maintenance, they seem like a group of stand-up mechanics who won't upcharge or upsell you. read more

Tyson was the best! He had the technicians check everything out, flush my brake fluid, filled my coolant and put new calipers, pads and rotors on in under two hours. They also send you detailed pictures of the equipment they find faulty and they plug in the obd sensor to scan the vehicle for codes. Service was great and the lifetime pad warranty is a must! These folks are awesome! They made sure to get me in just as soon as possible. Figured out what was going on, gave me an honest estimate and were able to fix my car in one day. This has been my place to take my family cars for years. They are very accommodating and professional. I know some people have different views of Midas and everyone has their own experience, but I've take my family fleet to them for years and even if it's been bad news or too expensive, I've Come to trust them, because they are trustworthy. They have become very busy, it's not like you can just walk in now for an oil change, but I find it's worth it to book one, because they check out everything. They go above and beyond. I went to Midas to get a second quote because my blower motor had went out and another auto shop quoted me with a ridiculously high price. Tyson quoted me with a much more reasonable price and had my truck worked on immediately and was done within 3 hours. We had the brakes replaced at Midas in 2020. It was only a few months and they started giving us more trouble. we went back and they did a little more work and they seemed better, but just recently they started giving us issues again. I called and they had us drop off the car and several hours later they said it was ready. For now they seem to be working great, and they didn't charge us anything for the rework. Had major repairs done on our car including head work and head gaskets. This was January 2020 everything was great in tell mid October. When it started random overheating. Took car back to them to fix,got it back still overheating. Took back second time they told me could be head gasket and they would have to tear it down to determine. After the tear down they said it was caused by a stripped headbolt and they would not warranty. And it would cost another $2000. Car never was fixed, they were not willing to work with me at all. And had to pay them another $440 for the teardown and got the car back in pieces. Customer service there is none dealt with owner very rude, no communication and was treated like I knew nothing. I know this it you do head gasket have the head bolts out and retorque. And head gasket fails do to a stripped headbolt. That's your fault and should be warrantied. Not here find some where else. read more

This place is managed terribly and the customer service sucks. I have a lot of knowledge about cars and mechanics, but don't have the equipment to do certain repairs. This place will take advantage of the ignorant customer and prey on people who don't know much about cars. Be prepared to be overcharged and billed for an hour's worth of work that takes them 30 minutes to complete. Now, onto the details of my experience with the Midas Touch that I would trust for as far as I could throw them. I had a muffler installed in Colorado at a Midas that came with a lifetime guarantee. The muffler tailpipe came loose so I took it to the Midas to have it replaced in Eugene. I knew from reading the warranty that I had to pay for the labor part and the muffler was free of charge. However, I didn't expect the labor to cost $90 because the first time I had it done it was only $55 a few years ago. When I brought this to their attention the response was, "The price of gas has gone up too." Now that's customer service. Unfortunately I was working and had to have the repair done so I said go ahead with it. I picked up my car and on my way home the entire car was shaking because they installed the muffler wrong and it was vibrating against the gas tank. So I turned around and went back the shop. After cranking on the pipe with a pry bar and resetting the hangers they fixed it. NO APOLOGY, NOTHING. Just a, "here you go, have a nice day. I have some other customers I need to take advantage of." DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. DO YOUR RESEARCH. READ OTHER REVIEWS. read more

Bad, bad, bad... stay away. After I paid for servicing there for my car in this neighborhood shop I stopped by with a generic question about a dashboard sign. Unhelpful and nonsensical advice. The first time I went there I thought their service was good and that the customer service felt more like a locally owned shop. It was nice considering I was spending a lot of money that day. Unfortunately, I find out the second time I went there (not expecting to spend much) the customer service turned into a large corporate, greedy, mentality and this was from the same person that was so "kind" the first time. I can ignore the patronizing tone of the person at the front desk, but I can't ignore when they endanger my car (and me) and refuse to take responsibility. I brought my car in to work on the brake pads. They said the front pads & rotors needed replacement, but the rear were fine. When I got the car back, the emergency brake handle didn't go up as far. However, since the brakes engaged, I figured something got (re-)adjusted when they were looking at the brakes. Last night, when I was taking something out of my car, I heard a loud "pop" and my car started rolling down the driveway. Fortunately, the driveway isn't steep, the road goes uphill from the bottom of the driveway, and (most of all) I wasn't behind the car. I was able to get inside. I tested the e-brake, and the handle went up to the level it would before I took it in. The e-brake held. When I called Midas about it, they refuse responsibility, even though they admit they took off part of the rear e-brakes to inspect the pads. read more

Here is my story with Midas: I used to take my vehicle to JiffyLube for oil change and it was okay (nothing special about it). A friend of mine recommended Midas because they also do an inspection for free. I always use synthetic oil that runs 6K miles, but after the first time I changed my oil at Midas my vehicle ran out of oil after 3K miles and I was told that its engine consumes lots of oil and I have to go there and add extra oil for 15 bucks (Let's trust them). Also they told me to change its Serpentine belt and they asked for $40 while it was $20 or so in Napa and I asked for the price match and they accepted (fair enough). However after I changed the serpentine belt the Air Conditioner wasn't cooling anymore! I took my vehicle to them and after 15 minutes inspection they told me that the compressor is broken and it costs $700!!! Of course I didn't trust them and asked another mechanic to look at that and he said the compressor clutch is loose and after more accurate inspection he noticed that somebody took out the bolt from the clutch! (The clutch is near the serpentine belt) He found a new bolt and everything is fine now. It was so simple that he even didn't charge me for that. read more

I use coupons to save money. Midas sends out $19.99 coupons about quarterly. I have used them twice with no real problems, although they charge an extra $3 or so to "dispose" of the filter. This time, they told me there were all SORTS of problems that had been listed the last time I had the oil change, (that was news to me.) The guy behind the counter said he could not complete the oil change unless he looked at the vehicle. Right, no thanks. Don't send out coupons and try to FORCE an up-sale guys. I went to Walmart where there everyday oil change is $19.98, no coupon needed, no appointment needed AND no disposal fee. I am NOT a Walmart fan, but I know where I am going for my oil changes. Today, I went on the Midas website to book an appointment to have a simple oil change performed on my wife's Prius. It has been several years since I last used Midas because our vehicles all had extended maintenance warranty's. I filled out the online request and waited for a call that took less than 15 minutes. Jason from Midas called said hello a few times then hung-up. He called back. I kept saying hello 3-4 times during both calls. On the 2nd call Jason explained that the time I had requested was not available and only an 8:00 am time was open. So I accepted the time. I told Jason I just wanted the basic advertised price of $19.99. Jason replied that the price was actually $24 and change. Thinking perhaps that Jason was not from Oregon (no sales tax) I asked why the increase, it is clearly advertised as $19.99. If the cost is more then put the amount but don't advertise what one cannot deliver. Jason stated there was a disposal fee of $5 and that raises the price. So why advertise $19.99 if the disposal fee is not included just say the price is $24.99. For me this was another "bait-and-switch" tactic still used by many retailers including Midas. Immediately after I suggested that comment Jason became upset and then said he was not interested in my business and abruptly hung-up. And that is his right. Retailers today can turn customers away. I was not rude, did not raise my voice, or use expletives. The oil change for my wife's Prius was a test run for me. My GMC Sierra needs new brakes. Depending on the outcome of the oil change I was prepared to make an appointment for a much large expense; a brake job at $179.00 plus fees (obviously). Now some people including Jason might not "think" that $5 is that big of a deal. Well, it is when one is retired and living on a fixed pension. I know exactly to the dollar how much I can spend per month in my budget. The other point is ethics, and honest business practices. I would have paid the $24.99 if it had been the advertised price. When I bought the Prius it was sold as advertised, I did not get to the finance manager and then have them say, oh, there is also a $300 non refundable fee not included in the price. With the countless other car care centers available in Eugene and Springfield I will simply take my business to a retailer that actually wants my business. read more

This is the first place I bring my car for anything, they do more than just oil changes. I get an honest, thorough assessment of my car and they explain things in a clear manner There have been times where I thought I had a major problem and ended up with a $50 bill and told that there were no further issues. As a single female with no idea about vehicles, i can feel confident that I am not being taken advantage of. *EDIT* I called to ask for a refund since the tire was not delivered when promised & I might as well spend my time shopping for a better deal. After arguing with Tyson for a couple minutes as he insisted he couldn't issue a refund for a special order, I heard someone in the back say they COULD give me a refund. At that point, Tyson gave in and said he would be issuing me one. Now I have to go BACK to Midas to receive this refund. Glad this mess is over and I can take my business elsewhere Ordered a tire here because they informed me there was a screw in it causing it to leak and that it wasn't something they could patch. Not wanting to drive around with a tire that could be dangerous, I ordered it that day as they assured me they would have the tire by Monday (I went in on a Saturday) and would be able to get it on during my lunch break on Monday. It's now Wednesday with a holiday approaching and I have no idea when the tire will be in. I have had to call the last two days to check if it has arrived because I have not been kept in the loop by the manager, who has assured me every day since Monday that "it will be in the next day!!" If I knew that this was going to be such a pain and so time consuming, I would have gone somewhere else to order the tire at a much more affordable price. Driving around in my vehicle is now extremely stressful as I'm always worried it's going to pop, and there is a possibility it could snow soon. I made sure to get my car checked out with plenty of time to fix it before the snow, but now I might not be able to even get to Midas if it snows because I can't drive on that tire read more

I had Midas replace exhaust pipe, muffler & tailpipe in 2014. Hearing a rattle, I took it back 'knowing' I had a lifetime warranty. All need replacing after just 50,000 miles. Previous muffler & tailpipe last 68,000 miles & 6 years. Exhaust pipe hadn't been replaced since I bought truck and had driven it for 117,000 miles and over 10 years. OK, so parts are substandard; at least I have a lifetime warranty, right? Wrong!!! Muffler is 'free', and estimate was all of $35 less than I paid for system just 4 years ago. I had recently gone to les Schwab as I usually do for my tires and they had told me that all my brakes needed to be changed and it was going to be a good Chunk of change, I wasn't to excited about this. i then decided to get it checked out at Minus because I had heard they were a little better, it turned out Yes, indeed, I did have to get all the brakes done. They took me out to my car and showed me everything while it was lifted in the air so I knew how little brake pad was actually there. The total ended up being less than half of what les Schwab had quoted!! It was done faster than expected and my car is running extremely well now, I am very happy with the experience over all!! read more

Initially getting my oil changed and tires rotated went fairly smooth aside from the lack of customer service. When I had called a couple weeks later as I noticed something different with my car, I fully intended on calling and simply asking questions to see what could perhaps be the problem. I had had a previous mechanic (family friend) briefly look at my vehicle and he suggested to all Midas to discover if they had seen anything while changing my oil. As I called Midas and talked to the owner Steve, I was downgraded and immediately put blame on. This is exactly what a female DOES NOT want to encounter with auto places. I have a vintage car and I explained that when I set up an appointment at Midas; two days later, I arrived on time only to be told that "we don't work on old VWs". Funny, a few days earlier when I set the appointment they did. I explained that the vehicle had an after market exhaust system and, after all, an exhaust system is an exhaust system and had nothing to do with VW. Their technical knowledge and ability to quickly diagnose and repair, if necessary, all of the problems I brought them was excellent. The service manager explained each problem clearly and succinctly and listed the options and estimate for repair, if there was more than one way to handle it. The price he quoted has always been accurate- and competitive, as I checked around- and on one occasion on a large job, was almost $100 less than the estimate.
