I went to Midas knowing exactly what I needed done for my car. My father is very car-savvy and has many, many mechanic friends so he told me what I should expect, and to expect exactly that. Nothing more, nothing less. When I arrived at my slotted appointment time, Edgar greeted me after about 1.5 minutes standing at the counter. He was professional and friendly. I told him that I wanted a synthetic blend oil change with a tire rotation. He checked me in, and verified my appointment information. He was upfront about what the oil change & TR would cost me, along with a diagnostic check of my car. I have a 2015 Chevy Malibu. I purchased the car in July of 2018. My fathers close friend (mechanic) usually does the maintenance but I wanted to also have another place to go to that I could trust. After about 50 minutes - which he told me it would take about that time, he came back and asked me to come talk about my car. He safely escorted me through the shop and told me 4 things: 1 . I needed an Engine Filter replacement 2. my tire tread was a bit irregular and I should have them re-aligned 3. I also needed a cabin air filter replacement 4. My right windshield wiper needed replacing All four of those items my father told me I should expect to hear and approximate pricing for each. I was EXTREMELY pleased with his candor, his price comparison, and kindness. I will be going back to Midas - Dempster St. next Friday to have the remaining 4 items taken care of. Run don't walk from these royal Midas clowns! Awful rattle noise was coming from the muffler on my 13-year-old Mazda2 and they wrote me an estimate yesterday for $1433.32 for what they swore needed replacing -- all my pipes, muffler, resonator and what all else, and potentially cat converter too. My lifelong local mechanic -- G&G in Evanston -- steered me right away to the amazing little Mufflers4Less in Rogers Park. Just came back from Octavio and the crew there and couldn't be happier. The real verdict - just rusted-though pipes both sides of the resonator (which was fine). He walked me under the before-and-after, and replaced and bolted those pipes securely in 45 minutes for $180. Now my little car purrs like a kitten. Midas Evanston might as well be gold thieves. read more

Quite a rip off. Replaced used tire with only 4mm treads remaining on my car and scratched my display after service.

I have preferred the Evanston Midas. Qyick work usually, professional and polite. I leave my car when they are working on it. I've given tire and brake service done here. Doe the brake service it was a little more time than I would have like but they said they deserved the services on time. They keep water for guest and a clean sitting area. They are willing to take coupons and if you schedule an appointment they will get you in and out. I also like they keep plants in the service area! How cool. read more

Andy and Zaya are amazing! They have helped me out on two recent occasions - one where my car was hit and they had to re-build portions of the front and the other where my cars DRL (daytime running lights) stopped working. I waited for a minimal amount of time both instances and am super happy with the quality of work they performed. I value that they are so close to my home if I am ever needing their help. read more

PLEASE READ THE OTHER BAD REVIEWS. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Don't go here UNLESS you want to get ripped off. I went for an oil change after checking the ratings and seeing Carfax rated them 4.8. So hopefully someone else will see this and be forewarned. The person who rang me out insisted on showing me all the "problems" with my car and then quoted me $1,500 worth of work. I let him know I have an actual mechanic and was only here for an oil change. He showed me my air filters from my car and insisted that I get mine changed NOW. While I will admit they hadn't been changed in a while they came out to an additional 70+ something which is a RIP OFF. The person who checked me out was also EXTREMELY rude and pushy. When I asked if this was what filters typically cost he said "this isn't a charity it's FOR profit and you wouldn't go to a stake house and ask how much the stake is." He then tried to fear monger me into getting the other over priced work done. I asked genuinely if it was urgent for me to get these fixes and he said "as soon as possible, immediately" I explained once again I would take it to my mechanic. I regret getting an oil change here and getting my filters here and wish I hadn't come at all. And if I could I would post a sign outside of the store warning anyone else who entered about how predatory this place was. Also, it's bizarre to compare going to a luxury stake house to going to get your oil change and being pressured into a bunch of up-sells. Obviously, I'll never come to this place again. And if you have a trusted mechanic and they can't get you in, I'd suggest waiting until they can instead of giving even one cent to MIDAS. My sincere request is also that MIDAS have a conversation with your employees about customer service and treating customers with basic decency. I want my money back for those filters. It was clear to me that the employee "helping me" was sexist that thought that he could act this way with no accountability. This MIDAS location has a history of trying to take advantage of women and I will make sure everyone I know is discouraged from giving you their business. read more

Friendly, knowledgeable, and they always try to work us into their schedule, even on busy days. When I was trying to get our tire looked at a few months back, I had been turned away/ignored by 3-4 other local places and was basically in tears when I walked into Midas as a last resort and they greeted me with a smile and said it wouldn't be a problem to look at it that same day. What's more, we feel they never pressure us to spend/fix more than what we are asking and they really do try to give us the best prices and quickest timelines. So grateful for these guys. read more

Midas 2410 Dempster Street, Evanston, IL just robbed me. There policy of for paying a $175 for inspection is robbery. Midas says that inspections cost will be rolled into your service charge. It is false advertising; in reality it is a bulling method of having for you pay twice as much to get your car fixed. The Acura dealer's price of $600 is better than your store price of $800 in which $75 was credited to my fix my car. I'm am extremely disappointed in the practice and the pocket bullying or car hostage that is going on. Midas is ridiculous.... read more

I asked them to look at my truck to see why the heat is not working. They told my I need a new thermostat even though the thermostat was changed the day prior to bringing my truck to them. They were just guessing. They told me I needed to change my heater blower motor and some hoses to the tune of over $1000. After they were finished, they told me the heat was working now. I get in the truck and the heat was not working whatsoever. They lied so that I would pay. They have no idea what they are doing. I would absolutely avoid this place if I were you. I forgot to post this back in January, but better late than never, no? So, long story short: I am kind of a chump when it comes to cars and tires and sometimes need help with basic things like filling tires (visions of overinflating tires and having them explode in my face, etc.). I got a notice that one of my tires was low, and to my credit, I didn't try to ignore it and pretend it wasn't happening. That's all the credit I'm really going to give myself, though. After filling them to the degree possible given my irrational fear of explosion, and still having a low-pressure notice, I had no choice but to ask for help. But who can I ask? Enter the nice peeps at Midas. Edgar was helpful and not condescending when I described my problem. He and a colleague checked the pressure on all four, topped them off where needed, and painstakingly checked two for nails, etc. Nothing doing. The low pressure notice went away. Edgar did not charge me for this embarrassing little check-up and I was on my way in about 10 minutes. I would definitely go back to Midas for other issues but I hope, for my own dignity, that I don't have to go back for something so basic again. read more

First time ordering tires online through Tire Rack and they ship them to any shop you like, chose this one based on reviews. I am always a little cautious when purchasing stuff online and / or trying out new mechanics. This place was pretty quick. They called me to tell me my tires were in, promptly made an appointment and I showed up a bit earlier than agreed. They immediately took my car in and got the tires put on. Took roughly 30-45 minutes. Watched TV in their waiting area, spoke to one of the guys behind the counter a few times, nice guy, seemed honest. Explained a few things to me and did not try to hassle me for additional products or services, which of course I was grateful for. Paid roughly $20 total per tire including installation, TPMS, throwing out the old tires and taxes. Based just on this one experience, I would certainly recommend them to anyone considering their services. Soon Ill be buying the 2 rear tires and will check them out again at that time and will let you guys know how that goes. read more

As car repair places go I am pretty skeptical. But the guy behind the counter was so nice. I was able to watch them do the work and felt comfortable with what I was charged. I watched as they interacted with other customers and some seemed to have been using their services forever. I had major work done on my car , I got 3 differnt quotes and they gave me a good price. More than that I felt confortable with the work that was done. I will be using them again. read more

I felt really relieved to know that they would give me heads up on what is going on with my car. Whenever i walk into this Midas everyone is so welcoming and the customer service is genuine and you can not tell it is just for business. You can tell these guys care about the customers and really love what they do. This is the type of mechanics i would pick for everyone to fix their cars. The employees here are friendly, accommodating and explain exactly what the problem is, how much it will cost under different circumstances, and they are extremely patient and thorough in doing so. They wound up doing the least expensive service option and explained why that was the best way to go. I will be going back to this shop whenever I need the kinds of services they provide. I've gotten a good 1-2 years of oil changes and other work (replaced breaks, tires, etc) done to my car here. I try giving automotive places the benefit of the doubt, but after repeated up-selling, not replacing a tire I bought from them that got a bubble on it within a year of purchase (they claimed it to be my fault and would not hear anything else about it), and other things (break oil and engine oil randomly going low/empty) that had never been a problem prior OR AFTER coming here, I'm not going back. The manager is genuinely nice (which is why I'm giving this a generous 3 stars), but for some reason when I came to this place I repeatedly had a lot of issues with my car. read more

I recently moved to the Chicago area, and my car was giving me a rough ride after the nasty Chicago winter and numerous pot holes. Not being very familiar with the area, I took my car to the local Midas. BIG MISTAKE! they used scare tactics telling me that if i didn't replace my break pads and 2 tires, that it would be dangerous to drive. They also hit me with an estimate of over $900! I then took my car to a non chain auto garage I found on YELP where the were able to replace all 4 break pads, refinish the rooters, and show me exactly what was wrong with 1 tire that could stand to be looked at in the next few months (no rush) and that the other tires were fine. The final bill for more work than Midas quoted ended up being $500 cheaper, and I didn't feel lied to or pressured like I did at Midas. read more

I would NOT trust your car here. I was a new customer to Midas. I bought two tires there. What happened was they did an inspection on the car and told me there were a tear in the cv boot. They told me they would show me but never did. They took off the lift right away. There was nothing on the car inspection sheet about it. They told me it would cost 5 to 600 dollars. I became suspicious of the whole thing. Since the I have taken it to two other mechanics and no tear was found. This is terrible way to keep new customers with a false repair. I will be falling Midas headquarters. Don't get ripped off there. I'm really upset anoyed. I already told you what happened. They tried to sell me something I did not need. Those two employees need to get Fired. Make sure you are not getting something you don't need. Not trustworthy at all. read more

I went in yesterday for an oil change during my lunch break and I was greeted very nicely! I let them know why I was there and sat and waited. I didn't see the time and realized I had to go back to work. One of the mechanics was so nice as to offer his personal car to me just to get back to work so I wouldn't be late. I hesitated but took the offer. He told me to drop it off once I got off and came back to pick my car up. I did just that. I have never seen costumer service like this anywhere else! And to be nice as to lend you their car to a costumer is beyond me! I will definitely recommend this Midas to everyone I know . I will most definitely be coming back! Great service! I had called the day before to set up an appointment for 10am on Wednesday. I got there at 950 and they took it I'm right away. They were finished and I was out the door at 1015. Their location is on Dempster which is a pretty main road in Skokie.( even though the address is Evanston.)The guys in the shop were very kind and made sure I knew specific things about my car. For example, my tire pressure light has been coming on frequently during the winter months, I had told them that whenever I see it come on I check to make sure it's alright and go one with driving. He told me that they checked it and wanted to make sure that I knew what was going on. I think I found my car repair guys as I'm new to the area! read more

Update 12/20. Took my car in to the dealership today to get the tpms fixed. I was told that three of THE 4 tpms sensors were torn, likely as a result of poor workmanship by the person installing the tires. Now I Ann looking at a bill worth $ 900 for the equipment itself. The staff is polite, BUT! I've been denied in warranty service while coming from another state, another Midas, where the hub problem was incorrectly identified. I ended up paying for new hubs and few hundreds for service then, 3 months ago. But the problem was elsewhere. They simply couldn't specify it and charged me for the front hubs replacement. Beware of Midas in San Antonio, TX as well! It's their corporate policy to charge you for what you don't really need to have you back in a while. Another bad thing is that here in Evanston, IL they tried to upsell a service for 700 dollars that I don't need. I've been at 2 other locations to double-check the state of my car as I'm pretty sceptical about what they say. Definitely will never go to Midas again. read more
