I wanted to put this review out there for this Midas location (US31 in Greenwood). I visited 3 car repair locations. This was the first one that would take my truck in to look at the brakes. John and Joey took very good care of me. Explained everything that was needed, called to let me know about an additional repair that was needed and provided a very good estimate and ultimate price after all was finished. They also provided a ride home for me, when it was going to be a couple of hours before the work would be finished. I didn't even get serviced. There were 2 people in line when I got there so I sat down and waited patiently and when they left the shop was completely empty. The guys were sitting at the desk and walking in and out and not a single person asked me what I needed or atleast said I would be with you in a moment. They were too busy talking about other random things and customers. Not sure if it was a race thing or a rude thing because I am a black female. Take your money elsewhere theres way better shops that would also charge you less because I have heard they overcharge. Gods rejection is my protection. read more

I went to Midas in Greenwood for a simple oil change that turned into a nightmare. The people were great and friendly and they evaluated the car and said I needed front end brakes. I knew that I did and the quote seemed good so I agreed. When I left the shop I noticed that my steering was terrible. I went back the next day for them to check the steering and they said the reason the front was bad was that the back needed complete strut assembly. I don't know why they didn't tell me that at first and this should fix the steering. The steering only got worse and the car was hard to control. There was a terrible noise on the right side in the back. I took it back again (3rd) time and told them the issue again. They inspected the car and said a front plastic piece hanging in the front of the car that had been there for 3-4 years was now the issue. That didn't make sense. All they did was cut the piece off and said that should fix it. IT ONLY GOT WORSE. I couldn't drive the car fast at all because it was swerving and I couldn't even take the interstate because I could not go over 40 mph. I took it to another Midas on Monday and they said the front had several screws that were loose and that was part of the problem. They drove the car and verified what I said. They said they didn't have the time to address the back but the suspension was probably the problem and I should take it back to the original Midas. I took it back to the original Midas again and they inspected it. They had a "master mechanic" look at it and it was determined the rear part that they just installed on Thursday had to be replaced but it was under warranty (no kidding, it was supposed to be new). They replaced that and said my tires were bad so I replaced two tires and the car drove a little better but the steering is not fixed to my satisfaction. I contacted the district manager asking for some kind of adjustment to my account because I could've been in an accident but he informed me he couldn't do anything because the part was on the car. NO CONCERN, NO WORRIES ABOUT THE FACT THAT THIS SITUATION COULD'VE GONE REALLY BAD FOR ME. I took to another Midas (5th visit) and here ends my tale. They put the new tires on the front and said I should buy new tires. At the end of the day my car drives terrible especially in the rain and on the interstate. I contacted the dealership and will have to pay $200 to get it evaluated. I will never go back to another Midas and I would urge you as a senior without anyone to advise you not go either. They don't care about you and now I'm out over $3000 that I don't have with a car that used to drive like a dream and now I have to be very cautious. I don't feel safe and I guess if something happens to me, you'll know why. read more

I am so happy I stopped here today! the young man at the desk is efficient.I had stopped at a parts place a couple days ago because my over head lights wouldn't turn off! The employees there took out a small switch because they couldn't get it to turn off. I went to Midas today because I've always had good service there. The manager and a service tech found it was a simple thing! It was the left knob that can be turned up and down for the lights. They didn't even charge me. Took the wife's car in to have a misfire taken care of. Started out as plugs and coil packs - ended up spending $3800 (yay, financing available). It's the wife's work vehicle so I had no choice, had to be fixed. Three days later I get a call saying the knock wasn't fixed and I needed a new engine. An additional $7000 for a used engine. Nope. Picked the car up only to have it sound worse than when I took it in. Currently getting a second opinion from a dealership. Yeah, this one is on me I guess. I took my car in yesterday, June 26, for AC service. This is the shop located on Hwy 31 across from the Greenwood Mall. Although the shop looked really busy, the technician said he could do a recharge for me in a couple of hours. I walked over to some shops nearby and it was not long before he was finished. I bought a 2013 Equinox. I took it to Midas and paid $900 to diagnose and service. Josiah, store manager, told me not to take it back to Beck, they would FIX it! He even looked me in the eye and told me that he would make sure my car was locked that night. The car never got locked that night! Was parked outside unlocked. A week and a half later the car stops in heavy traffic with my elderly mom. We had to wait on the side of the highway for two hours for AAA to tow it back to Midas. They want $6,000 for an engine. It was never diagnosed properly. *Don't drink the coffee w sugar or cream they had ants in it each time I went back. There are a ton of places you can have your vehicle worked on. The price for most services are pretty close but what makes the total difference is customer service. These guys absolutely go out of their way to do everything to make your vehicle safe to drive. Josiah the manager, runs a tight ship. He makes sure everything is done correctly. I would highly recommend the Midas next to Olive Garden in Greenwood. They checked out the car for no charge and then quoted us a price that was about 300 less than the dealer had try to tell us it would be, and when the went to put the part in it was the wrong size and they had to bring in another one that was MORE expensive and they did not charge us the difference. The thing with Midas is that unfortunately they overcharge for parts. Any part that you have replaced is marked up significantly! And if you don't believe me, just look up the parts for yourself and you will find that what Midas is charging you are doubled, even triple what the the parts actually retail for. If you search multiple retailers for the part you want, you will find that what the retailers are selling those parts for are significantly lower than what Midas will charge you for them. When I reached out to a manager at the store, and asked why was I triple charged $337 for a part that I found at four of the retailers for $128 and less? He told me that I could always buy the parts and fix my vehicle myself! So then I asked him, could I just buy the parts and pay your business to install them for me? He said I could but then they would double the installation fees and would not ensure the parts, Even if the parts are brand new in the box and was same part that they were going to order. I have been a customer there for nearly a decade and I was blown away by this! So unfortunately the last time I got service there will be my last time there. Now, this place is pretty typical in many ways; the staff is gruff but knowledgeable, they do quick work if you're waiting, and they get paid on commission. Now, that last one, there's the rub. A quick story, perhaps. I've been going to this Midas for a while to get my oil changed, tires aligned, and other low-maintenance things I should probably know how to do myself. They were great for this. I'd bring a book, turn down the TV in the waiting room, and would be on my way before I knew it. But then, one day, my car was in a more dire need--that is to say, it wouldn't start. Now, all of a sudden, Midas was able to locate dozens of life-threatening problems my car had which I'd known about and gotten checked out by reliable mechanics. Without getting too slanderous, I had reason to distrust their diagnoses. It took around six phonecalls to just get them to do the minimum required to get the car running again and not to save my life. Even then, they held on to it for almost a week. To offer a contrasting view. My roommate has brought her car to them for over a year and has nothing but praise for their honesty and efficiency. Maybe I'm just paranoid or unlucky. read more

My car was towed to this location, they not only fixed and repaired what was needed but also spotted a potential hazard and brought it to my attention. They ordered in special tires which caused a 1/2 day delay and I was flying out of town an not able to pick up my car when it was completed, they allowed my car to remain on property until I returned. I am sad to see some poor reviews for this particular location. It's the only place I go to get my oil changed. They've always been speedy, and they've always done a thorough check on my car while my oil is getting changed. I got some brake work done about a year ago because I really needed some new brakes. I already knew what was wrong with my car, so what they told me was not a surprise. They did a great job on my brakes, and even though it wasn't cheap, I knew it would've cost the same price anywhere else. Being a woman, I am always afraid that I'm going to be taken advantage of. With this particular location I have never felt these guys were trying to take me for a ride (pun intended) as far as charging me to fix something unnecessary on my car. They have always been super friendly to me. As a matter of fact, after my break job, I came home to discover that I had forgotten to take a coupon for some money off the brake job. The manager was kind enough to offer me a few oil changes in exchange for not using the coupon at the time of the sale. I thought that was pretty fair as well as cool. Long wait. Staff wasn't rude to me, per se, but they certainly were not pleasant. And they were flat out rude to multiple customers on the phone as we waited. The wait was long but at the time I expected to be busy that day so I told him to take his time. While I was waiting I was basically harassed by the sales guy about getting an oil flush (which isn't recommended on newer or foreign cars and mine is both) or paying an extra $60 dollars to replace two air filters that only cost $10 a price and require no tools. He removed my filters to show me I needed to replace them, but he ripped my cabin filter and now my car sounds like is violently shaking anytime the vents are running. I only came here because my points credit card was having a promo. I won't ever come back here, and if you don't know a lot about your car, don't have them work on it before consulting a REAL mechanic. read more

My experience turned problematic when they told me my 1998 Grand Caravan needed new rear shocks. My Caravan is all-wheel drive with auto-leveling suspension. Failing to find air lines and a compressor, the manager (Butch) told me I was wrong and installed standard light-truck shocks - which caused the suspension to sag and bottom-out when driving around with no load. The next day was Sunday and I used it to confirm the original equipment (Nivomat system) is self-contained in the shock and provides a significant part of the lift. I returned early Monday, with the Monroe part number of the shock I needed. Instead of installing the right part, they installed light truck shocks with helper-springs. When told that was not what I wanted (and showing them a printout of the catalog page), Butch said 'I can't get those'. Tuesday, I had to load the vehicle and take it on a trip to Atlanta. Enroute, the second batch of shocks failed to perform adequately and the suspension would bottom-out on even mild bumps. To correct the problem, I had to stop at a Dodge dealer along the way - and pay for a third set of shocks. I didn't go back to Midas because Butch had already told me he couldn't get the right shocks. Butch gave me store credit for the price of the Midas shocks, but refused to refund the labor charge for installing the wrong shocks (twice) - even though it was his lack of knowledge that had caused their work to be a total waste of time and money. read more

My best friends boyfriend recommended that I come here to get my oil changed instead of Goodyear because they are so much cheaper. I got a high mileage oil change, and with a $10 coupon I found on their website, my total was $36! Now that's a good deal! I was there waiting for a total of maybe 40 minutes, which isn't bad at all compared to other oil changes I've had done. Their staff is all very friendly and made me feel super welcome! My third cylinder misfired so I swapped the 2nd and 3rd to see if that changed anything. It still had issues so I took my car in to Midas to get a diagnostic done. I had the second and third cylinder misfire this time so they swapped the coils around again to see if that changed anything. They gave me an estimate on what needed done and I decided to wait and look at it myself too. I went to look at the coils and Midas over tightened the bolt holding down the third coil. The torque was SUPPOSED to be 44 inch pounds. We don't know what it actually was because the bolt was so tight. Trying to loosen it, it pulled the insert right out of the engine with it. Since I had previously looked at it myself I knew the bolt wasn't previously like that. I called Midas and told them they messed up the bolt and Mike was extremely rude! He rudely said they didn't mess it up. I know for a fact they did. They didn't even offer to pay back the $60 diagnostic fee. Needless to say, I'm taking my business elsewhere since they decided to lie to me. read more

I dropped off my car, and they contacted me within a couple of hours to let me know they were not equipped to do what needed to be done. However, they recommended an affordable specialist nearby and didn't charge me for the inspection. This gives me confidence in their honesty; I've had so many other places "try" and fail and charge me for it. This Midas has earned my loyal business for being straight-forward, fast and honest. I took my car here to get my brakes fixed and they wanted $700 dollars for it so I said never mind I'll just come and get the car well when I got back in my car it sounded like a metal bar was scrapping against concrete and my car was ticking and wasn't safe to drive.It seemed like they were mad that we didn't want to spend 700 on new brake pads so they put my car back together like shit. I would never recommend taking your car to this Midas. I used to go to Midas in a different state so I thought we would try them here. Such a bad choice. We were having no problem with the car before we took it (just routine tune-up before big trip) and and it died within 10 minutes of getting it back. We had to end up towing it twice. Once was back to them. They were closed and weren't open the next day, so we had to wait two days for them to check it out. They said it was just untimely and wanted to charge us to get it fixed, They wouldn't refund any of the money for the tune-up. They said they were cutting us a deal with the fix, but after everything we just weren't sure. After talking with corporate, we decided not to have them fix it and towed it to another mechanic who we now love! Message if you want the referral to him. He's in Greenwood. I just think Midas was in a hurry... We were the last car of the day and they wanted to get out of there. We were getting ready to go out of town on business and had to cancel our trip because we didn't have a car to go. All in all, we lost around $2000-$3000 with the tune-up, car repairs, and loss of business from our trip. Avoid this shop. They are shady and will rip you off. There was a squeak whenever I stopped in my Santa Fe. Thinking it was the brakes, I asked them to look at it and they said that it was actually the rear wheel bearing and gave me an estimate for just under $500. I hesitated, and they offered to throw in rear brake pads for free. This week, I took it back in because it's been making a road noise since they replaced the wheel bearing. On Friday, they were busy, and so I told them I could leave it overnight for inspection in the morning. The man I spoke with, Nate, said "We'll look at it at 7:30." At 11:45, when we still had not heard anything from them, we called. They'd had it for over 4 hours and hadn't called us! They said the previous work was fine and that we actually needed new struts, shocks, and tires. The amount quoted over the phone was well over $1200. We went to pick up the car, and discuss the estimate. I asked if the wheel bearing could have caused the road noise/new problem. Butch, (I believe he is the manager) said that a wheel bearing causes squeaking or grinding when turning, and has nothing to do with road noise. I told them that it had never grinded or squeaked when turning, only squeaked when braking. It seemed shady so I left to get a second opinion and was told that my struts and shocks are fine, and that my car needs no work now, only new tires by winter. I now believe that the shop not only tried to rip me off today for over $1200, but ripped me off previously for $500 by doing work that was not necessary, as it was most likely only brake pads that were needed, not a wheel bearing. My AC wasn't working so I went here to get it fixed, they told me after a system check all I needed to do was to get the refrigerant refilled and reset the system, I paid over $100 and the AC never got cold. I took it in 2 weeks later and said it wasn't working right they pretty much told me too bad and told me I'd be $700 to get it fixed. I left pissed off and went somewhere else where they fixed the problem for $170. We were loyal customers for years, but not after our most recent experience! I got an oil change that took forever and included a tire rotation. The guy at the counter asked if I wanted, to which I replied "As long as the best tires are up front." So they did. I drove home and noticed my tires were noisier than usual, but didn't notice until I got on faster roads how bad they were. They had rotated, but the tires up front were not the better tires. They were closed, and were not open Sunday so I went to another shop open on Sundays. He took about 3 seconds to look at my tires and told me not only were they two different tires (not Midas fault, but I had never looked closely) but one was directional and on incorrectly, while the other had some really strange wear. He wasn't sure why they had put these on front, but cost me $22 to rotate them back so the good tires were back on front. I emailed corporate, letting them know my dissatisfaction. I got an email back from Nate Heichelbech and he said he could fix my rotation and give me a coupon for an oil change. I explained that I had gone to someone else since I drive 60+ miles a day to work and couldn't wait. Further, an oil change coupon didn't take care of $22 repair. I simply wanted a refund for $22 and an apology since it was clear not a single technician looked at my tires before rotating. (Which I understand is part of their job) He said he could not refund a free service. I went on to say that was fine - refund the $60 synthetic oil change instead. He then said he has documentation from the store manager that I insisted on the tire rotation even though they highly advised against it. Not a single person told me anything about my tires, nor was it indicated on any courtesy check or on my invoice. The manager was flat out lying. I offered to PDF him my documents. All I wanted was $22 and an apology from Midas about a crappy job. In the last few visits I've seen a decline in the service and quality of work. What makes this worse is the resolution was simple. Instead, manager is lying and trying to say I wanted the worse tires up front - does that even make sense?! We will now be taking our business to a place where deceit and poor service is NOT the norm. read more

My car broke down while driving from North Carolina to Chicago. While my son stayed with the car I ran the last half mile or so to this Midas shop. Butch quickly dispatched 2 techs to bring the car and my son to the garage. They were able to quickly diagnose the problems and even find the parts needed for my ten year old BMW locally. Additionally, care was taken to show us what had failed and explain the fix that was underway. Finally, after repairs and a test drive were complete a written explanation and the old parts were given to me for my Chicago mechanic. I know that we were unbelievably lucky to have found this shop in the middle of a crisis. Prices were fair and service went beyond any reasonable expectations. read more

MY wife had some work done in castleton. They did not tighten 3 or the 5 lug nuts. The car was rattling on the road. I have no issue with the Castleton branch, accidents happen. The Castleton manager ask me to take the car to the Greenwood Midas (I was in Greenwood at the time and it was not safe to drive back to Castleton). This redneck manager in Greenwood guy started yelling at me because he said the bolts were not loose. I check the lugs by hand and could move 3 or the 5 with just my fingers. This could have killed me or my son. I am just trying to do business, not play the blame game. His response was the worst I could imagine. read more
