Efficient and friendly. I drove up early today and was warmly greeted by Dodi as I exited my car. She took care of me right away, explained their process and offered me a fresh cup of coffee while I waited. Within less than an hour my service was complete. I usually take my car to Oakland's High St. Car Wash and oil change but I'd been looking for a local place to do routine oil changes and I found this gem. I'll definitely be back. Important to note that although it took me less than an hour, I went early in the morning to avoid a normal wait. My brake light went out so I went to O'reillys and got the light but being not knowing much about cars I went to Jiffy Lube where they told me I was given the wrong bulb, so I went back to O'reillys where she told me that it was the correct bulb and she sent me Jason at Midas... Went there a couple months ago cause my car was falling apart, its an old beater and was visibly slouched from broken/wornout springs, told them I coudnt afford new springs so I left the car a couple days while they called around and found a good set of used ones, when they did they called me to make sure I knew the quote and agreed before doing any work, that was nice. Like I said I was pretty broke so I bartered a bit cause I like to, and they were polite and even a little flexible on the price. I got it back and it felt like the alignment was a little off so I brought it back and they were really nice and looked into it, turns out my frame was a little warped, probably from a minor accident I had a month earlier(like I said, the trucks a beater) they showed me where it was warped and said they could adjust the alignment to compensate a bit, so they did and it was really smooth after and they did charge me extra. Last I thought about getting my windshield replaced(it was cracked from the accident) so I asked them for a quote, they said it would probably be more expensive than I could afford and even recommended a few places around that might be cheaper, and they were right, that gave me a warm fuzzy, so ill probably definitely go back. read more

We took our SUV in for brakes and new tires. We've been to many East Bay mechanics prior to this Midas location in the past. This place has the best customer service by far. They have never tried to sell us something additional or recommend anything outrageous. In fact, we came in for the manufacturer's recommended 40k service. They told us our filters and everything looked good and that we didn't even need it. Saved us a couple hundred bucks. This past time after our brakes were done, it began making a horrible squeeking noise. We called them and asked if we could bring it back in for them to look at it. They stayed open late for us, so we could swing by after work and identified the issue within minutes and fixed it right away. Both Fernando and Jason were extremely friendly and helpful. My car broke down in Hayward during a rainy day, and Jason drove over to my location to check out my car. I was in an out in less than an hour for an oil change. Jason was not only friendly on the phone but in person as well. In addition to the oil change, they check your car for routine stuff. I had dirty air filters, and instead of just replacing them, Jason actually showed them to me, gave me a quick rundown of its maintenance, and gave me the option whether or not I wanted them to replace them. I appreciate that he didn't take my "woman-ness" as "car maintenance ignorance" and try to rip me off like many shops have in the past. read more

We went in on Saturday, and they said it needed alignment and wheelbalancing. I went back this morning to have the work done, the manager had no record of this recommendation and wanted to do a new evaluation. He just called me and said I need three new tires and should get four to keep them matching to the tune of $705 after "manager's special." Been going over there as a regular customer, they don't know how to take care and assume responsibility of their mistake instead of apologizing for almost causing my wife car oil pan to be all over the freeway because only one screw is left holding the whole thing after they changed the oil, could have cause my wife to have an accident. After telling them of the incident the manager Raymond wanted proof and insinuated we are liars instead of apologizing. He wants proof that my wife and children could have been killed because of their negligence. Such a bunch of f.... Idiots!!!!! I don't write reviews often, but when I receive really good service, I think it's important to share the experience.I had an really good experience at this Midas today. I went in to get an estimate on my front brakes and to check out a problem with my tire pressure. I had used this particular Midas in the past, but encountered horrible customer service and a horrible repair service. I went back today because I found a coupon and it's really close to my job. Jason met me at my car, greeted me, and asked how he could help. Jason's staff diagnosed the issue with my tire pressure immediately, and they also gave me an estimate on my front brakes (within 20 mins of me being there). Their prices were reasonable, so I left my car there to be serviced. Since I work close by, Jason offered to drop me back at work and pick me up once my car was finished.. Jason's staff not only fixed both issues accurately and quickly, they also took time to explain the issues of my brakes. It turns out that I may need back brakes pretty soon. When the time presents itself, I will return to this Midas for future auto service. read more

I have been taking my car to various different mechanics around the bay, and have yet to find a place that I have been happy with, until I went to this Midas location. I took my car in about 6 months ago as it was acting funny, the mechanics along with the rest of the staff here really took care of me, and were very informative on what was wrong with my car and what services it needed. They answered every question I was thinking before I even had to ask it. I never once felt as if they were trying to sell me on something that my car really didn't need. I really appreciate the honesty demonstrated by Jason and his team. I recently brought all three of our vehicles in to have the brakes checked. Only one was under warranty but because of the excellent service I brought the others in too. The first time in, I observed the patience demonstrated with other customers of all ages. Wow! Not knowing too much about car maintenance, there are a few things I look for in a mechanic and car service business: precision, reliability, efficiency, honesty, and value. I found all of these at La Playa Midas. I took in my car for a 90K tuneup. After the tune-up, one of the mechanics gave me an honest assessment of my car engine, but told me that none of them were urgent. I was even told to look out for my break linings, but that it wasn't necessary to have them fixed then in there because I could at least drive my car a few more months. This is definitely a trustworthy business and where I'll go for all of my car service needs. read more

I went in to get my oil changed. They were really fast, did all the point inspections on the car and made sure i was running well. They even noticed that my heat gauge in the car was off and tried a couple things to see what the problem could be. We could not find out the issue at that point, and i was in a rush, but they left me with suggestions of what I should check to see where the problem was coming from. Ended up being my radiator cap was loose. Had it not been for them I might be one of those guys thats holding up rush hour traffic cos my car over heated. The guys there are really nice and genuinely care about making sure your car is in good condition once they are through with it. Definitely the spot I go to for all of my needs. The new ownership has made a world of difference for this place. I've been coming here for years to get my oil changed and I always get great service. This last time though it was the worst service ever! I went in for an oil change like usual and after they checked out my car they tell me that 2 of my motor mounts are broken and that they can replace them for $900! I may not know a lot about cars but I know motor mounts aren't more than like $65 each. So I told them no thanks and that I would have my dad check it out. After my dad took a look at my car he told me that my motor mounts were perfect. Not even a tiny crack on them! I can't believe Midas was trying to have me replace something that wasn't even broken! I will definitely NOT be coming back! read more

Went to Midas for an oil change today and on another previous occasion. During both visits, my car was taken into the bay within 5 mins of arriving. My car was done within 30-45mins.
