My exhaust pipe broke again last week, and this time the whole thing was so rusted it had to be replaced. I don't know what a normal lifespan for an exhaust pipe is, but these guys got me an extra 3.5 years out of it, doubling what would have been the lifespan of THIS exhaust pipe had I replaced it the first time. read more

This place is awesome! The people who work there are professional, honest, and they go the extra mile for their customers. When I got my car inspected at a mobile gas station down the street, Mu car failed bc of the breaks. When I called Midas to have my breaks changed, they squeezed me in right away. They had 2 guys working on it to get it done quickly. When I left to get my car reinspected by the mobile gas station, the guy there failed my car again for no good reason. I think it was bc he was upset that I didn't get my breaks fixed at the mobile station. When I went back to Midas, they took my car for me to get inspected. They were back in 15 min. My car passed the inspection no problem. They were so helpful and prompt with everything. They are awesome. They went above and beyond and this loyal customer appreciates it! read more

I brought a 17 year old car in for an oil leak. 'Dave' tells me "You need an oil sender unit." I say "OK" and the job is done for around $250. Within one day of the job being completed, there is oil on the undercarriage and on the driveway, all in the same place, and in the same amount (judging by areas of coverage) as before. Within a month, I take the car back. 'Dave' says, "Sorry, yeah, it's actually your manifold gasket; it's cracked. You need new gaskets; $500-$600." I point out that I just paid $250 for an oil sender unit that I evidently didn't need. 'Dave' responds, "Tell you what: I'll do it for $300. And I'll take care of the coolant leak I see in there, too." I say "OK" and the job is done. Within one day, there is oil on the undercarriage and on the driveway, all in the same place, and in the same amount as before. I take the car elsewhere. They glance at it and tell me that, in all likelihood, Midas "simply didn't tighten the new gaskets completely; not a big deal, not much oil leaking." I choose not to complain to Midas. Many months of slow leakage later, I go back to Midas. 'Ken' (who obviously puts a lot of effort into being a nice guy for customers) says "It's not oil; it's power steering fluid. Repair will be $370." I am at least relieved that it isn't oil this time. The job is done. Within one day of the job being completed, there is what I now believe (per 'Ken') to be power steering fluid on the undercarriage and on the driveway, in the same places, and in the same amounts, as before. The power steering also fails completely. I go to Midas. 'Ken' apologizes for the botched power steering job and adds, "It's not power steering fluid that's leaking now, it's oil (!!!); you need a new oil pressure sensor. $125." I become disturbed at this point and note that this would be Midas' third diagnosis and third attempt at the leak, and I will now be into this leak for the better part of $1000. 'Tim' (the owner) comes out, says there's nothing he can do because his records show I drove the car 20,000 in the one month that elapsed between the first and second repair attempts (and also grossly misrepresent the overall mileage by 50,000 miles). I point out that his records are clearly ridiculously wrong, which he ultimately acknowledges and agrees to make the third attempt for $80, but not before telling me my car is "The worst car GM ever made." The job is done. I go to pick up the car. 'Tim' comes roaring out of the back: "[My records show] we never did a manifold job on this car! Don't come in here talking shit when you don't know what you're talking about! I'm not working on this car again!" AS A MANAGER/OWNER, HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR OWN PEOPLE DO ON A CAR IN YOUR OWN SHOP? I point out that he is misreading his own inaccurate records, and he seems to grudgingly acknowledge this as he stops accosting me (his own paying customer), but not until bringing out some guy from the shop area (at my request) who allegedly was on hand when the first two failed attempts were made. This guy insists "We did coolant work [on the car at that time]," which I immediately point out was never in dispute. He goes on to say my car is old and junk, and challenges me to explain how I know it is oil that is now leaking from the car. I reply, "Because 'Ken' told me exactly that." He then scoffs at my assertion that the three jobs have been done on the same leak, asking me how I could possibly know that. I reply, "Because the same amount has appeared in the same place at the same rate throughout this comedy, and, not to mention, because Midas told me so. Now, you're telling me the consistency of the leak was just coincidence, it's really three different leaks, each popping up immediately after a Midas job?" He replies that no, that's not what he's saying; he's just saying my car is old and junk and therefore must be leaking everywhere all the time. 'Tim' repeats this refrain a few more times as I pay and leave Midas for the last time ever. UPDATE: The leak is finally fixed. 3rd try was the charm, Tim. read more

Just experienced my first encounter with Ryan and the guys and only have great things to say about them. My muffler (with me driving) had hit a curb and started making a rumbling noise. Ryan had the guys diagnose and fix the problem, tweak the fix a bit - without trying to sell me additional services - and off I went with my car sounding like it had just left the showroom. I would recommend them to anyone. And don't forget to bring some Gatorade for the guys to keep them hydrated. read more

I used to take my car to other places. I don't anymore, and haven't for some time. I have always felt them to be reasonable and fair in their pricing, and I get treated like the long-standing customer I have become. I've never been surprised by an add-on. If they think something needs to be done they explain why and ask permission first, without fail. They've caught things for me that I've missed and have always been good about taking another shot at something if it's not quite right (which is a very rare occurrence). I brought my 2006 Honda Civic in for front brakes and an oil change. Though I told them I wanted new rotors with the new brake pads as recommended by the manufacturer, they insisted my rotors were in good enough condition to last through another set of brake pads and they turned them instead after talking me into that. When I picked up the car, I found the brakes were squeaky, loud, vibrated and pulled to the right when braking from highway speeds or going downhill. I called about this problem and Midas told me the brakes were still breaking in and to give it more time. 2 weeks later, I still had this issue. I called again and they said manual shift cars take longer to break in because I brake less often. Fast forward a month and the vibrations were much worse. I took it to my mechanic at a different shop who found the rotors were warped and it cost me $210 to repeat the work, resurface the also-now-warped, month-old brake pads and put new rotors in. This mechanic said he never turns rotors in Hondas and he always replaces them. I would have taken it back to Midas for the repair, but I had lost faith in them over problems with the oil change from this same visit. While putting the oil pan plug back on, they over-torqued it and cracked the oil pan. I noticed a puddle of oil in my driveway a week after the oil change and found the level to be low. When I brought it back, he tried to say it was my fault (the oil pan on this civic is recessed and the crack came from the plug threads, so it was not the result of hitting something) and wanted to charge me $500 for the oil pan repair. After much debate and painful discussion, they offered free labor if I paid $250 for parts. I was stuck agreeing at the time as they had my car on the lift without an oil pan. It took over a month of more arguing with the franchises owner Tim (being polite doesn't work with this guy!) and discussions with Midas' main customer service to get my money back for the parts, and then he only sent $230, not $250. He's lucky I noticed the lack of oil or I would have been arguing for a new engine. I was so worn out from dealing with a difficult person to talk to that I accepted his offer to leave it at that. I can't believe I even had to pay for the oil change. The icing on the cake was a lovely reminder they left me for all my troubles - two big greasy black thumb prints on my car's interior, one on the front seat and the other on the inside of the door. Tim told me I had a choice of him getting my car detailed or getting the refund on the oil pan they damaged. Obviously, I chose the refund. Lots of money and time wasted on what should have been a quick trip for a basic brake and oil change. Epic failure. read more

Called in earlier today to ask about pricing for an oil change and to see if I could be in and out quick since I didn't have much time. Ken answered the phone and he's the nicest man ever. Super sweet and let me know it was about $31ish (totes forgot exactly what number he said). I came in about 30 minutes later and was greeted by the friendliest human alive, Ken. I normally don't give my two cents about places unless it was extremely good or extremely bad. This was extremely good. It took a little longer than I expected but that's okay. Ken and I struck up a conversation about Hopkinton- I work around there (that's kind of irrelevant). Anywho- Kenny really cares about his customers and is a wonderful representation of the company. I had an emergency and and my car had trouble starting and figured it was my battery. Luckily as soon as I pulled up Tim Stearns, the manager came outside to help us. He checked out my car and changed the battery for me and only to an hour. Tim has to be one of the most humble people, managers' that I have met. He was so extremely helpful. He constantly apologized for timing when he did everything quick! Hahaha If anyone needs help with their car, this is the place to go! read more

Amazing guys here. My fiancé and I got pulled over in NY on our way to Boston for a bum brake light. We took the car to this shop the following morning, and not only did they replace the light in 30 seconds flat, but they signed the paperwork to get us out of trouble. Did I mention that they did this at no charge? Truly wonderful people, and they saved us much much more than the price of the bulb, they also saved us a ticket and points on his license. If we lived here we would come here for repairs, but we're recommending it to a friend in the area for her next oil change. read more
