I thought having the Midas name behind this facility would be something you can trust. I spent over 5,000 dollars in repairs for my car only to have the car break down on the side of the road the very next day. After calling the shop and telling them what happened they stated they will send someone to pick up my car. My car set on the side of the road in the same spot for over 14 hours and I have not heard from anyone at this shop. I had to have my car towed to another shop for repairs. This Midas shop don't stand behind their work they claim they fixed the problem with your car and then you are out of pocket with your hard earned money and have to take it somewhere else to be fix. read more

Went in to have headlights adjusted on my Van. Drove Van the next evening and almost got into an accident as my headlights were pointing down at the street. Worst then what they were before!!! I went back and explained that they were not adjusted properly and they were immediately VERY defensive explaining he seen the mechanic doing it and that he had done it correctly. No concern that I almost went off the road due to their incompetence. They walked out into the parking lot and then told me my headlights were dim and needed new headlights. They then said if I wanted them, it would be a 3 hour wait. I gave up on this place and then went to another shop and they adjusted my headlights properly and I did not need new headlights. They were not adjusted properly by Midas. I think they need to stick to tires only. I'll never return. Sad experience. read more

Nice car Have you ever noticed that people working at car shops like this are not the nicest people? That's my only complaint. They could probably act like they are happy to have customers, but that doesn't typically happen. Otherwise, I can't find a reason to give a bad review. Went there this past week to for 2 tires that I bought on line. I always go to Mavis down the street but they could not fit me in that evening. They fitted the tires and said it was ready. I needed gas so I went to Hi Vee and when I was leaving the gas station (1 mile away from Midas). My air warning came on. I thought it was just a little different and the system needed to reset. About 1 mile longer it was down 10 psi. I returned to Midas and said there was an air leak problem. When I looked back at my vehicle the center cap was missing also. The Tech put air in the tire and said you are good and I drove off. About 3 miles later I was starting to lose air again. I needed the car the next day and now I was stuck. Today I am at Mavis to get it fixed. Do not go there. They were also more expensive than Mavis. When I was there they were trying to say to a young pregnant woman that she needed tires. They looked ok to me apart from the one that they showed her a picture of. They did not try telling her that she maybe had a tie rod issue or something else but tried to sell her 4 tires. I will not be back. Expensive, not trustworthy and pretty crappy work. "Mavis" guys are working on it now. Do yourself a favor and go to Mavis and ask for Chris, great prices, no one I would trust more and excellent work. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! We had our brakes, calipers and rotors replaced on our 2011 Honda Accord. After 10,000 miles they started grabbing. We came back in and they said the brakes, calipers and rotors need replacing! After only 10,000 miles! They claim the calipers stuck causing the rotors to go bad. Well if that happened on all four, seems to me they weren't installed correctly. Whose fault is that? Not ours! Then they have the nerve to quote us over $1500 for replacement even when the parts are under warranty and it obviously happened because of something they did wrong. These people are scam artists! I went in today for brakes for my car. They inspected it and called me with a quote before they start any work. They did a good job. I have taken my cars to this midas for years. He is the only mechanic who has told me that I don't need something done at that time. Bob is honest and I always get a fair price for the work. it's very refreshing. Sadly..... many, many years ago, I worked at a shop in this chain and MY HOW THEY HAVE CHANGED IN LESS THAN 15 YEARS.... 15 Years ago we changed Valve stems for free OFTEN and when we charged to replace them it was under $ 5.00 per stem..... $ 35.00 to change a valve stem is ROBBERY and what this place charges. Came in for an oil change and asked them to check my tire as it seemed to be pulling to the left..... well, they found a valve leak and told me $35.00 to change IT....... never mind they already had the tire off the wheel AS they asked...... which is definitely a tad STEEP for UNDER 10 mins work..... Came here and got quote $380 and only needed the front rotors and brake pads all around. I asked if they were sure I didn't need rear rotors and they re-confirmed. But seeI brought my Nissan Pathfinder 2017 here that was acting weird on me, NO engine light on, no other lights on the dashboard I walk in and checked in with a Male that definitely did not look friendly at all seemed like he definitely hates his job. I mentioned to him that I need my SUV looked at due to the issues I was noticing, the tachometer was going slightly up and down while in a stop, the front desk guy said it would be 35 for an inspection and 120 for a diagnostic check if the engine light was one and I said to him that dashboard did not have an engine light on and he said ok asked for the keys told him they were in the truck. Some other mechanic took the truck back inside and he started checking the vehicle. While waiting for my vehicle an older customer came in for windshield wipers because they were not working, the grumpy front desk guy went ahead and took the older lady's Jeep back to change the wipers when he was done changing them he was trying to check the new windshield wipers and it seemed like the vehicle was not releasing the windshield fluid, he then started checking those wipers and then went ahead and ask the lady if her wipers were working because today they weren't working after he replaced them to new ones, shouldn't it have been a smarter idea to check them before changing them? Well he didn't while trying to fix the issue the older lady was talking to Bob and everything they were talking about was no where professional at all he was talking about how he has fired his mechanics, how guys now days are lazy and expect big money for employment yet Bob and his team expect BIG MONEY for lame shady diagnostics that they give customers like me. The grumpy guy changing the wipers comes back and says that he has fixed the issue and it was a fuse and they changed and guess what for her it was at NO CHARGE. Probably after waiting about 45 min thee guy came back and said to me that my vehicle had a code populating saying it was the Air flow sensor and that the mechanic cleaned it and the code was gone now BUT THAT NOW MY TRUCK WAS COMING back with 2 other codes and that they needed to diagnosed and to tell me what was going on with it and it would now be 120 I said ok obviously I trusted them with my vehicle and unfortunately they lied to me because they didn't know what was going on with my vehicle instead Bob Goggled the codes because the other mechanic didn't know what was going on they took my truck for a test drive and came back and it seems to be ok now. As I'm going to check out The Grumpy Guy said to me "You need a new transmission" after Bob goggled the codes because they couldn't figure it out. I was like what? Seriously and was then charged 123 dollars for a lame diagnosis. I went ahead and got a second opinion today and guess what? It was just a transmission flush. They said NO NEW TRANSMISSION and no other codes were populating. Midas lied to me because they have little or no knowledge about cars and it's unfair for us the customers to pay that amount for a lame diagnosis after they googled the codes that supposedly were coming back. Or should we said they charged me the 123 dollars that they didn't charge the previous customer with the windshield fuse and wipers? Because that's how I felt. I will never trust these guys they are shady and will never be going back there. Those 123 dollars were much needed for Bob's new teeth apparently and the rest of us customers can figure it out on our own!!!!! read more

I am very disappointed today. I've been getting my car fixed at this Midas for years and never had a problem before today. I came in because my ABS and "Brake" lights had come on. I explained that after the lights turned off, I had to nearly press my brake pedal down to the floor. After they inspected my car, I was told that I needed a new ABS sensor and my left rear wheel bearings needed replacing. I was quoted $749 ($50 of which was a serpentine belt adjustment). Since I am not mechanically inclined at all, I made sure to ask if there were anything wrong with my brakes or brake lines and I was told by JC that there was nothing wrong with them and that replacing the ABS sensor and bearings would solve the problem that I came into the shop with. So I approved the repair. I was driven home and told that the repair would take 2.5 hours. After an hour and 45 minutes, I was called and told that they ordered the wrong ABS sensor and the repair wouldn't be ready until 4pm, that's 6 hours after I approved the repair. I said fine. A short time later, I was called back and told that after further review, that I'd need new brake shoes and drums for an additional $386 on top of the $749 that I'd already approved. I told JC that I specifically asked if there was a problem with my brakes or brake lines and was told they were fine. Now I was being told they are not and the repair would cost $386 more than what I was told was going to fix my problem. I told them to stop their work and I'd take my car to another mechanic and I went to pick up my car. Upon arrival, I told JC that I brought the car in for a problem with it's ABS and Brakes since those were the warning lights that were on. I reminded him that I gave specific details about the brake pedal having to be nearly pressed to the floor to apply the brakes. I reminded him that his mechanic inspected the car and I was told the ABS sensor and bearing replacement would solve my problems. I told JC that I was baited and switched, approving a $749 repair only to be told after work began that it would be closer to a $1,200 repair. JC apologized and told me that he couldn't even argue with me because I was right and that it was his mechanic who told him the wrong information that he gave to me. I ended up having to pay $650 for the bearing replacement and belt adjustment. Full price. No offer of discount for the bait and switch or inconvenience. Just an apology that shifted blame to a mechanic that I never even met. I paid my bill and had a family member inspect the repair by getting under my car. Upon his inspection, he found a pair of wire cutters that were still in the chassis of my car. Yes, Midas left tools in the underside of my vehicle. In addition, I was told that I now had no ABS sensor on my tire at all. I went back inside and despite everything, was kind enough to return their tool. I let them know that I was even more upset because they left a tool in the underbelly of my car and asked why the old ABS sensor was not reinstalled. I was told that they couldn't. I was given the old sensor back. So after $650, my ABS and Brake lights are still on, I have no ABS sensor at all now, and my brakes are still bad. What an absolute disaster of a visit! I told JC and another employee that after 5 years of doing business with them, I would not be coming back. The other employee had the nerve to tell me that "there was nothing they could do about what happened". So they got $650 and I still have a broken car. There is nothing worse for a customer than having their trust violated and that is exactly what happened to me today. I simply do not trust this location anymore. How could I possibly give them anymore business after a blatant bait and switch that left my car worse off than it was when I brought it it? Thought I'd call over there to get some advice since I'm still learning about cars besides oil changes. I called and talk to JC. JC is very impolite and sounds like he shouldn't be working on cars at all. No shame on Midas but I was astonished. Took maters into my own hands and did some digging. Found some bits of something in my gas line and took it over to get there opinions. Right off the bat JC was rude and said he didn't know what it was. DIDNT EVEN TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT. Took it into the shop and showed the techs. THEY DIDNT EVEN KNOW. I walked back and called my reliable mechanic and within seconds he knew right away. Imagine what they do for a simple fix. If I'm going down, Midas, you're coming with me. I took my car into Midas to get the brakes fixed. This is of course never a cheap proposition, but I forked out the $500+ dollars with the understanding that brakes are just a regular maintenance expense of fixing a car. After I took my "fixed" car back home, I realized that the brakes were still screeching, particularly once I was finishing the braking process (such as pulling into a parking space or finishing my stop at a light). This was not acceptable, so I took my car back in TWO MORE TIMES with the same complaint. The first time, they claimed that had fixed it, but it only took a mile or two of driving to realize they had not. The second time, they gave me some crap about how the brakes have some kind of plate in them that is rubbing against something else in there and making the screeching noise. This plate issue will wear itself down eventually, they claim, and be fine. Guess what? 7 months later, it hasn't. Also, they leave your car, when it's finished, sitting in their parking lot--unlocked, mind you--with the key in the ignition. This in itself is inexcusable. I will not be returning. read more

My wife's car needed brakes so on Sunday, I bought some pbads and new rotors and put them in. Since I had thought the rears had been replaced less than a year, I thought I could get away with them. When I check them I learned that was just folly and they were in need. Short on time, I took them to Midas on Monday. I parked my car in the lot, admittedly somewhat crooked in the space and they said they would check it that morning and call me. Having received no call by 3PM, I stopped by to check on it. When I pulled in, I noticed the car was in the exact same space and the only other car that had been on the rack this morning was still there. When I went in, I was told by the counter person that they had driven it and checked it. I would not only need rear shoes and drums, but the front brake were "metal on metal and the rotors are completely shot" as well as the calipers. These are the rotors I had replace less than 5 miles and 24 hours ago. The quote was in excess of $700. Since I had a similar problem with another Midas years ago, except then my wife had taken it in and paid the ransom, I am starting to think this might be a corporate culture. Ummm...no. I recently took my 2016 Jetta here for an oil change and Tire rotation. my car requires synthetic oil so my oil changes are typically more on the pricey side when i take it to the dealership, but here it only cost me a little over 60 bucks and took 30-45 minutes. I tried to get it canceled but they said 'Since they took my wheels off they were legally obligated to fix it'. My brakes were grinding. Of course it was right in the middle of my work week so I thought I would take it to Midas since the place I normally go couldn't do them the next day. I have had work done in the past with no trouble. I dropped my car off and got a call the next day with a $972.00 quote....for what they said were two bad brakes. 1 front and 1 rear. That seemed odd to only need 1 side replaced on each end, but they said it was because of seized pins. I am a girl, but I am not dumb. I have had enough brakes done on cars to know ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS for TWO BRAKES was excessive. When I refused to have them fix my brakes they told me they needed to replace "rubber boots" THEY broke inspecting my brakes. I called a friend who was previously a mechanic who said they shouldn't have broken while inspecting my brakes....so I refused that $60 charge too. I paid them their $47.00 inspection fee. I drove my car to the other place. $575 dollars and they replaced all for brakes. Nothing about seized pins or rubber boots, but they did comment all 4 brakes needed replacing. So for half the money, I got twice the work done. I will never go back. It was like a 20/20 or Dateline episode on shady mechanics. When I dropped my car off at the other place I was told I was the third person that week getting a second opinion after a high Midas quote. It is not a good way to run a business. read more

I went to Midas about 2 years ago, they had a special, oil change and tire rot. for $30. I drive a 2009 Civic, well some time later I was washing the car and thought I would check the oil, NO OIL showed on the dipstick. I threw my jack on the floor and crawled under the car, first thing I saw was oil everywhere, then I noticed why: the numbskulls never got the filter screwed on tight. The first time, I had no problems with it but the second time marked the last time I will ever come here again. I wanted an oil change at Toyota first then found out I needed an appointment prior to coming in but my maintenance light was on so I figured I'd drive down the block and get the change at Midas instead. I wanted an oil change and of course, got one and lady there told me a bunch of shits were wrong with my car like a transmission leak!? I denied their offer to replace my transmission/brake/air filter (nothing was even wrong with it!). I got home and boyfriend told me I was leaking a shit ton of oil fluids out of my car and we couldn't find the source of the leakage with no tools whatsoever, I started to believe I might have a "transmission leak" so I made an appointment at the Toyota dealership and the tech there asked if I had a recent oil change, I told him yes then he told me that the oil filter was the wrong size therefore couldn't hold the oil and I lost 4 quartz of oil out of 5. I seriously lost all the fluids from their crappy service so, we bought a jug of Mobil oil for 5000 miles so we can drive it to the dealership, by the time we got there, all the fluids were leaked out. Bottom line: they will not fix your shit, and will only make it worse so you can keep going back. I was glad I didn't drop over $300 for them to replace something that was never broken in the first place. Great customer service and great turnover time! The men working were very nice and informative. I needed a new tire so I went there because I got my tires from Midas in Springfield. They were just as helpful here in DeKalb. I do wish the price of the tire was more comparable to what I paid in Springfield but I understand being independently owned they get from different vendors sometimes. read more

A few weeks ago I went to the Midas in Dekalb for the first time for an oil change and tire rotation because I had a coupon. Well guess what.....I shouldn't have!!! Two days after I had the tire rotation and oil change, I noticed that my front brakes started making a grinding noise when I applied the brakes. I let that grinding go on for only one day. The sound got drastically worse and I knew I was totally doing damage. I took my car to a REAL AUTO MECHANIC who looked older than 18 years old and guess what...he said I was grinding away at my rotors. Seeing that Midas had my tires off, they should've easily seen that the rotors needed repairing before I would have to replace them all together. My new mechanic could not believe I just had the car at a mechanic three days prior. So instead of getting just new front pads, I also had to get new rotors. I should have listened to a friend who had nothing but bad things to say about this Midas, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Whatever you do.....GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!! read more

They broke my headlight, blew up part of the housing while the car was on, blamed it on me, made me pay 25 dollars for I don't even know what, and then gave me a quote of $270 to fix the light bulb.
