I worked with Midas in the past and never had a problem until now. I will say the one thing they did which was in a customer service oriented way, was when they totally mishandled the problem they paid to have it towed to my local Midas after two days of messing with it. I was recommended to this Midas from my local Midas dealer farther south when my spouse's car was idling very rough on the highway. Now to be fair it is an older vehicle and things do break down. I initially had the car towed to this Midas location on Monday afternoon, the 20th. At that time I was greeted sort of gruffly by a gentleman named George. He started to get us into the computer. It turned out, like a school bell it was George's time to leave and he wanted to go home. He could have made it less obvious but that's fine. I was then turned over to another gentleman named Frank. Frank explained to me that they were going to put the car into a computer diagnostic system. Once the readout came through, it was determined by the diagnostic tool that their was a misfire in the second cylinder of the vehicle. He suggested a full tuneup, which included plugs, wires, and coils. This would be upwards of close to 900 dollars to do. I explained that such a large cost for an older vehicle I'd like to make a few phone calls, as a family member of mine in NY is a mechanic, so I sought his advice. He explained that if what the gentleman was saying is wrong, is wrong, that they should replace the plugs and the wires first, and then the coil (or coils) as necessary if it was still running rough. It should be noted that a gentleman who I believe is their mechanic was essentially taunting me telling me we "definitely" need to replace the coils and that the wires and plugs would not solve the problem. I found him to be rude and disruptive to the sales process as he is not a service advisor. It was mutually agreed upon at that time to do the plugs and wires first as those would have to be done regardless, and then the individual to all the coils if necessary. At this time it was approximately 5pm. I saw the sign that said closing at 6, but they were taking in the flags and such and it seemed as if they were closing up shop. I was told they'd have the car done relatively early the next day (Tuesday). I was also assured this by the rude mechanic who said he'd be done by 10. At 11:30 I hadn't heard from the location so I called in and was rushed off the phone and told it wasn't done and "yea we'll call you when it was done", no update, no concern, just "we'll call you". At 1:50 I called again because my plan was to pick up my spouse at her work which was an hour from where I was, and I wanted to ensure the work was done. At that time George (still hadn't heard from Frank) said "oh yea, we're going to need to do the coil". I said okay, it'll be done in about 90 minutes to 2 hours, he said yes that should be fine. I then got a call a little over an hour later almost 3 o'clock from Frank (finally heard from him) to tell me the car was running great, all fixed come on down. We came in 15 minutes later to find a panic situation and Frank explained that they let it idle for about 10 minutes and it ran rough again. At that time he suggested it was the catalytic converter, which was another $900 dollar plus suggestion. He explained that his computer systems tells them what steps to take, and that's the next step. I resisted saying that they seemed to be guessing and not actively diagnosing, just doing things the computer tells them to do rather then being a mechanic or a "car doctor" as I would call it where they troubleshoot on their own. This seems to be either not in their wheelhouse or not allowed at this location. Frank then called down to the other location we have worked with and they suggested a slow drip fuel injection cleaning. We waited for an hour for them to do this (to be fair, this was offered at no charge) and it still had the same problems. At that time Frank offered due to my lack of faith in them to have the car towed to the store that we normally work with. They told me the next day after some diagnosing that it was completely misdiagnosed and that two of the cylinders had very little to no compression, which is what the problem was. NOT spark plugs, NOT wires, NOT coils, NOT catalytic converters, but essentially a blown engine (or compression). They explained that the tuneup should have never been done, and advised me to ask for my money to be refunded I called the next morning and spoke to George. He told me"talk to Frank he's off today call tomorrow. On Thursday I spoke to Frank. He again like a parrot told me all about how they did what the computer told them to do. It's like he memorizes this in his head. He then told me wait a day, I did, and then told me no refund and to call the better business bureau. Terrible customer service. Do not take your car to this location, my car received an oi change and when I took it home I had my front and back brakes replaced then it took a couple of day for me to get the brake lines for the back tire so it took about a week for my neighbor to do my brakes. After my brakes were done I started my car a lot of white smoke came out of the exhaust tail and it went everywhere. When I checked my oil, it was overfilled, I called Midas and the manager/owner told me to bring to see what could be wrong with it. When the owner got into my car and it did not start immediately he shouted at me "What's this why does your car not start" I told him that this 1987 Honda Accord and it has a cold start after a couple of tries it warms up and is good to go. After my car started up tons of white smoke came out a clear sign that is was burning oil. He told me that he would check my car and let me know what is going on with my car. The next day he called and told me that I had driven it over 400 miles and who ever worked on car caused the problems. He also claimed that is seems very fishing that I was just having these problems after an entire week had passed and I had driven the car for 400 miles. He accused me of trying to take advantage of his shop and trying to blame them for my car problems and there was no possible way that the oil was overfilled by their technician and no way that changing the oil could cause my car to have so much smoke. He told me that he found gas in my oil pan and his shop has no gas available so there is no way gas could have gotten into my oil pan at their shop, and whoever was working on my car cause the problem. He stated that they could check why my car was leaking gas into the oil pan but it would cost me over $100.00 to have them check it and even if the found the problem they could not fix it I would need to take it elsewhere. When I towed my car back home the owner said it could be the carburetor that may be causing the problem. The following day I wanted to check if the oil had been drained and to my dismay all the oil was still in my car and the level was much higher. My question is how did he know there was oil in my oil pan if he did not remove it? Previousely when I checked my oil I saw oil on the oil stick, now that I rechecked it I can see where the oil had been and above the oil line I can clearly see gas. Can it be possible that the oil and gas separate or did someone pure some gas into my oil????? I been on line checking and I have noticed that I could not find one person who had problems get their issue resolved. If you dare to use a Midas coupon check your oil levels before you leave and if they rotate your tires check that they reinstall all your wheel nuts, I had a couple missing and they also took my stick that holds my car hood up. The owner claimed that his technician left it in my car. The day after I had my oil change I went back for it and the employees told me they left it in my car. I returned with a friend and suddenly they found it. When I towed my car to the shop I told the owner to please make sure that it does not get misplaced again, do you think they will return it ??? I called yesterday about my car that I was experiencing intermittent issues with unhealthy air in cabin, intermittent loss of power which felt like a back draft, and there was a rotten egg smell that was intermittent from the engine and I could swear there was a carbon monoxide leak going on, as I felt pretty ill while driving and I had to keep windows open while driving with the air off. I spoke with Paul and he said to come right in as he has a Toyota that had similar problem. Stuart inspected my car and said everything looked okay and he told me that he felt really bad as he believed me that there was something going on and that there was something going on considering I have owned that car for 9 1/2 years with no issues. he told me he that he takes pride in trying to figure car issues out and there were 2 other workers there speaking with me and then the rotten egg smell came through! With more investigation it ended up that the engine was infested with rat nest and feces droppings and urine. I googled health symptoms with rat feces and it is pretty serious stuff. I contacted my insurance company and I was told that the car is toxic to drive so I filed a claim to have them hopefully return my car back to a normal and healthy state.
