This was an absolutely unacceptable experience from start to finish. On Friday, 8/28, seven of us ordered lunch from Middle Eats through the Middle Eats website for delivery to Ward. Our order totaled $212.78 and included four shawarma brisket bowls, a chicken kebab bowl, a shawarma brisket wrap, and cumin fries. The estimated delivery window was 1:55-2:05 PM. Around 2:00 PM, we checked the order status and were shocked to see "Your order was delivered." Except it hadn't been. We had received nothing. At 2:07 PM, we called the number provided directly on the Middle Eats order status page. We were told the order was out for delivery and should arrive soon. We waited another 15-20 minutes, then called again and were told they would contact the driver for an update. By around 3:00 PM, after repeatedly trying to get through, someone finally answered and said they were speaking with DoorDash support. We were told the driver had picked up our $212.78 order and subsequently cancelled the order. We never received any part of the order and were given no explanation of what happened to the food after the driver picked it up. At that point, we just wanted the situation resolved and our money back. We were told someone would get back to us with an update. About 30 minutes later, we called again and were told there was still no update, but someone would call us back. By 5 PM, there was still no call. A different employee answered and apparently had no idea what had happened. We had to explain the entire situation again, only to be told that they couldn't provide a refund and needed to speak with a manager. On Saturday, 8/29, we called again and asked if we could speak with the manager directly. We were told this was the correct number, but the manager wasn't there yet. We specifically asked that the manager call us that day even if he didn't have a resolution yet, because we simply wanted to speak with someone who knew what was going on. We were assured he would call us back. Nobody ever called back. Then, later that morning, Middle Eats sent us a message saying: "We hope you enjoyed your first visit to Middle Eats. Here is a special discount to use the next time you come in. We would love to see you again soon!" Attached was a $5-off coupon. We had just paid $212.78 for food that never arrived, spent hours trying to get answers, and were still waiting for someone to address the situation. And the response was essentially, "Thanks for visiting! Here's $5 off your next order!" We did not "enjoy our first visit." We didn't receive our food. No one called back Saturday. No one called back Sunday. As of Monday morning, 8/31, the $212.78 charge has posted to our card, we still have received zero food, and we have received zero follow-up. To be fair, I understand the initial delivery problem may have involved a third-party driver. Things happen. That isn't even what bothers me most. What is unacceptable is how Middle Eats handled it afterward. We ordered and paid through the Middle Eats website. Nothing on the order confirmation or status page indicated that we were placing the order through DoorDash, and there was no driver information provided to us. Middle Eats was the business we paid and the only party we could reasonably contact for help. Instead, we spent an entire afternoon and weekend repeatedly calling, explaining the situation to different employees, receiving incomplete information, and being promised callbacks that never happened. The initial delivery failure was unfortunate. The customer service failure was entirely avoidable. A $212.78 order is not pocket change. We shouldn't have to spend hours chasing a restaurant for basic answers, nor should we still be out more than $200 four days later with no communication. And honestly, the $5 coupon was the cherry on top. Please don't send us a coupon to come back when you haven't even addressed the $212.78 order we already paid for. We paid $212.78. We received $0 worth of food, $0 meaningful follow-up, and a $5 coupon. That's not acceptable customer service. read more

We found this shop at the Blaisedell Center Farmers Market. We ordered the chicken kebab with pita. They served roasted vegetables, plenty of chicken kebab, four pieces of pita, and sour cream. We put the vegetables, chicken, and sour cream on the pita and enjoyed it. The flavor was excellent. We even used the leftover chicken to make a chicken salad at home, and that was great too. Food: really good! A friend and I ordered the falafel wrap, which I chose to add sumac onions to, and the shawarma brisket wrap. The shawarma brisket wrap was really good - tender meat with lots of rich flavor. It tasted different from other shawarma I've had before - almost like it had a sort of barbecue flavor? It was really good! The markook lavash is perfectly crispy on the outside and all the sauces and toppings go really well together. The falafel wrap was good in terms of taste, but I wish that the falafel had more of a crunchy crust, and was more fluffy on the inside. It was just a bit dense and dry but tasted good anyway! I also wish the sumac onions had more sumac. As a disclaimer, we didn't realize that we were supposed to call when we were outside the building ready to pick up our food (oops... they even say to do so on the order page! but I just glossed over that by accident). So we got our food a bit later, and maybe the falafel would've been crispier and less dense if we had eaten it right away. I'm guessing the sauces soaked into it and that contributed to it being a bit dense. I'll need to come back to try it again! What to know: Middle Eats is a satellite kitchen, meaning that you don't go to a physical shop to pick up your order. The kitchen is in a building that you can't actually enter - so you place your order online or by phone, and then go to the pick up location (55 Merchant St) to get your order. However, you need to call them to let them know you're there, and only then will they come down with your food. This makes complete sense to me and I even see the instruction on the order website now, but I guess I just missed that detail - so that's on me! There is some space to pull over in front of the building when you pick up your order, and once they know you're there, they come downstairs in just a few minutes. If you can't find nearby street parking, the nearest municipal lot is the Chinatown gateway one. I will definitely come back to try more of their food! read more

Went to check out the new food court and this place caught my eye! The owner who was cashiering was super nice and friendly. I was really excited to try their wrap as I've never tried it with a thinner bread which the owner said was lavash. We ordered the Shawarma Brisket Wrap. It was sooooo good. The brisket was tender and the sauces were so flavorful. We also couldn't help but get a side of the cumin fries which were so crispy and well seasoned. It came with a side of toum garlic sauce that complimented it perfectly. We also got the honey walnut baklava and paired it with some ice cream from the gelato place next door! Just like that our meal was complete and it couldn't have been any better. P.S. It is in a food court so there's lots of seating! At a recent Wednesday farmers market at Blaisdell I wandered around until deciding to try this pop up stand. I love middle eastern food but had never heard of Kosharee, which was featured on their sign. It was essentially a grain and pasta salad, which spices and other things. It was something fun to try, but would've loved to have had some fresh veggies with it. Regardless, I had a great experience here; the people working at the stand were welcoming and friendly. When asked if I liked spicy, he included a green and red sauce to have with it. Both were flavorful and delicious. Prices are reasonable for large portions. Ordered delivery for lunch today. Brisket Moco was on sale...$3 off...and was awesome. Brisket was soft except for some of the ends but not negative in any way. Very flavorful with two eggs on top of beef brisket and basmati rice. Also, requested the Mezze Box sampler: Hummus and Toum were the options that I chose...also included olives and jalapeños. What a love hate relationship we had with Middle Eats! When we were waiting outside the building for over half an hour we told ourselves "we will never come back again!". But after we took the first bites of our food we were like "why is the food so good?! Fine we will suck it up and deal with the wait next time!" The reason for 4 star review is strictly due to the wait time. I would give 10 stars just for the food. We ordered our food around 5:30pm on uber eats and was told that it would be ready close to 6pm. We arrived 55 Merchant Street. You wouldn't see any storefront I believe they are located inside one of those commercial buildings. Anyway we let them we have arrived and they said food almost ready and they will bring it out. Nothing happened at 6:15pm. We called again. They apologized and said coming down now. Another 15 minutes passed. We called them again and they just said the same thing. So we finally got our food after 6:30pm. And the food? Omg I haven't had Middle Eastern food this good for a long time (or ever?!). We ordered Kofta wrap (lamb and chicken) and I don't know what seasonings they have used but the flavors were so rich. I usually like lamb more than chicken but the chicken was seasoned really really well and wasn't salty at all! And I didn't know falafel can taste so good with rice! We were literally crying with joy because we didn't expect the food would be this good lol. Gotta change it up every once in awhile. Deviating from my usual Thai food plate, i decided to try Middle Eats. Their plates are priced reasonably, in the $16-$18+ range and their service is good. Everything is made to order so it takes about 10 minutes from ordering to pick up. Just enough time to browse the fruit stands! The kosharee is like Egyptian comfort food: lots of carbs (rice, pasta), beans, lentils, & a spicy sauce. A nice vegan change of pace. It comes with garlic vinegar sauce (very potent!,...bring gum!) and a very spicy red sauce. It hit the spot for me! The chicken kebab plate had a large mound of long grain rice, cooked in a booth. The chicken was tasty and tender. This plate comes with a small salad, pita bread, and sour cream. Portions on both plates were very generous, and we had enough leftover for a smaller 2nd meal. I'm always looking for new lunch options in Downtown and stumbled upon Middle Eats on Yelp. I liked that I was able to place my order from my office, instead of ordering in person and standing around for 20 minutes. They're located in Harbor Court (55 Merchant Street) and only offer curbside pickup. To my knowledge, there is no actual storefront to go up to order. Unfortunately, I was left a little lost because when I checked the site right before my pickup time, my status was still at "Confirmed". Hoping for the best, I made my way over. Right before paying, you'll see a page with instructions, telling you to call or text a number to let them know you're here. Your email confirmation will provide you with the same pickup instructions again. I made my way over and sent them a quick text. I did not receive any acknowledgement. I waited around another 5 minutes, before I called them (using the number I found on Yelp because I was worried I had the wrong number to begin with - the two numbers are different!). Fortunately they did get my order and I was told he's on his way down. Now finally on to the food itself. I ordered the lamb kofta wrap which was very unlike any other wraps I've had. It was long and narrow, and delicious with a green tahini sauce. At $16, it was a bit pricy for me, but after trying it I somewhat understand the pricing. It was filled with meat...nothing but meat. The photo online looked like it has more tomatoes and onion, and I really do wish there were more veggies. But given the amount of meat and the size of the wrap, the pricing was well justified. The flavor was good but I really did feel like I was missing some vegetables. It was really just meat with sauce in the wrap. I enjoyed it but was not amazed. However, am definitely glad for more options in the Downtown/Chinatown area. read more

Grabbed some food here while at the farmers market at Blaisdell. It did not disappoint! The workers were very nice, and since my friend and I got the food at the farmers market, we just sat on the curb to eat in the fresh open air. I haven't been to the storefront, so I'm glad Middle Eats is at this farmers market. There aren't a lot of places to get Middle Eastern food in Hawaiʻi, so I was stoked to get some shawarma and kosharee. That sauce for the kosharee is fire! Haven't had kosharee since being in Egypt 15 years ago. The portions are generous, so you won't leave hungry. Glad my friend and I got to share two things. I'll be back! read more

Absolutely fantastic. Can we talk about their new branded takeout bowls and boxes?! LOVE! We've been fans since the pop-ups at Capitol Modern and it's so great to see how they've grown. Our family got the mezze box, kibbeh batata, lamb kofta and shawarma brisket bowls, and a salad bowl with chicken. Everything was 10/10! The mezze box was a great way to sample everything. I'm obsessed with the cumin fries--they were so addicting. I'll be getting a full order of those next time. Great babaganoush and we loved the garlic toum--put it on everything. It was our first time trying kibbeh so we didn't know what to expect and were blown away--flavor bombs! Highly recommend. As for the bowls: The brisket was super tender, the kofta was juicy and flavorful, and the portions were so filling--we'll have lunch for tomorrow too! The food has so much potential, but the ghost kitchen service was a major letdown. I really wanted to love this, as I am a fan of their food, but my experience at their Midtown Eats ghost kitchen in Downtown Honolulu (which is curbside pick-up only) was incredibly frustrating. First, the positives: The falafels themselves are genuinely delicious--tender, perfectly spiced, and not dry or mealy at all. The fries, baklava, and their green tahini dip are absolutely amazing. I've had their lavash in the past, and it is usually so tasty, warm, and crunchy. Unfortunately, everything else about this specific pick-up experience fell completely flat. I arrived exactly on time and texted them as instructed, including a clear description of my car. I was waiting in front of the Harriett Bouslog building as instructed. However, I got absolutely zero acknowledgment. I really don't mind waiting for good food, but the total lack of communication left much to be desired. I ended up waiting 15 minutes. It turns out the person bringing the food out was standing across the street, entirely obstructed from view by parked cars. Even though I was the only person waiting and had described my car, he initially walked right past me. He also had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, which makes me think he was taking a smoke break while my order sat around. By the time the food was finally handed to me, it was completely cold. I would like to emphasize that I was waiting in the place that I was instructed to wait. I don't know why the delivery guy was waiting across the street. The biggest disappointment, however, was the wrap itself. The website clearly states the falafel wrap is served in lavash, but mine was served in a plain flour tortilla. I reached out to ask about the switch and, again, received no response. While the falafel inside was still good, the flour tortilla completely detracted from the overall taste and texture of the meal. I left mislead by the switch. I was also annoyed that Middle Eats made no attempt to let me know. I would have ordered something else if I had know. I tipped very nicely for this order, but between the bait-and-switch on the bread, the cold food, the smoking delivery guy, and the completely non-existent communication, I will not be going back here. read more

My order pick up time is 12:10pm. It is now 12:30pm. I texted when I arrived with no response. We've been fans of Middle Eats since their tent days at KCC. Thankfully theyve been so successful they also have a storefront. First our order from the 55 Merchant street storefront It's actually only a curbside pickup place where you call and they bring it out to you. We purchased 2 beef brisket bowls and as a native Texan, the brisket was on point! So tender we could cut it with a spoon, in fact, it would shred when we scooped it up and gave it a shake over the spoon. Just amazing and the portion was great. It's topped over cardamom basmati rice and served with onion and tomato. It is offered with lime, but we prefer sumac instead. I wish I had a pic but it was just sooooo amazing I ate mine in one Scooby-doo lick. We also ordered the baba ghanoush which is unlike anything I've had before. The Smokiness and the spices make it a delight on the palate- and a great savory for a next day sandwich spread - buy several! We also tried for the first time the three cheese sambousek. It's a feta, cream and cottage cheese in a fried crispy triangle. If you love cheese, this is a great replacement for the all too common mozz cheese stick. We actually saved one in the fridge overnight and it was still crispy the next day, a triangle of feta forward love, if you will We also ordered a chicken kebab big wrap in the footlong lavash bread. It's truly a foot long and stuffed! Easily a meal for two and an excellent option if you don't want a thick pita bread or if you're already ordering pita bread - because yes you are Also not pictured on the website but we ordered their version of a ground beef empanada. It was light on spices and not heavy with flavor fillers like onion and garlic - if you know it you already love it and if you have new eaters it's a good baby step choice. A thing of beauty! If you have a hankering for 'middle kine eats' this is da spot. Don't let the pickup only option deter you. I've seen many a middle eastern eaterie come through the island. In my humble opinion this is one of the best. Perfect basmati rice, perfect hummus. That perfect balance of chickpeas, tahini, lemon, garlic. I'm honestly shocked I haven't heard of this place before--it's an absolute hidden gem! Without a doubt, the lamb kofta wrap was the best I've ever tasted. The lamb was incredibly juicy and cooked perfectly, with a rich blend of spices like cinnamon or clove that brought a depth of flavor I wasn't expecting. The seasoning was spot-on, with just the right amount of salt. But what really set this wrap apart were the sauces--WOW. So flavorful with a gorgeous green hue,, adding an extra layer of complexity without being overwhelming. The flatbread was nice and thin, not dominating the meat and flavos. Even though the wrap is HUGE it's pretty healthy, not leaving you sluggish. I can already tell this is going to be a regular order for me. I had the pleasure of trying Middle Eats for the first time yesterday. I have to say, hands down, this is the best falafel you will find on this island. I have tried them all! But overall, everything is very fresh and well prepared. You can tell a lot of care goes into making these dishes. I would also say this is the best hummus I've had in a very long time. Very smooth.
