Get out of your box and try a pho shot. Or drink the "hogo-a -go-go" punch allllll night - a refreshing rum based drink with hints of nutmeg, hibiscus and falernum. Maybe something sparkly? Try a Sonic Boom with bee pollen, brandy and sparkling wine. You are guaranteed a creative and unique cocktail as Midnight Rambler delights in being artisanal and of the times. While visiting new towns, I always ask the local wait staff for their picks on where to go for eats or the after dinner drink. Not only are they local but those in the food service industry are always in the serious know... This night in Dallas was no different.. Except it changed the way I drink scotch most likely forever. Located in the joule hotel, The rambler is cleverly and conveniently hidden from prying eyes. So much so, we had to ask the valet how to get in. Just through the hotel doors and to the left is what looks like a set of service stairs leading to a basement. But what you find is a dimly, yet adequate lit, swirling staircase transporting you into what feels like prohibition era speak easy! A cute and friendly hostess awaits you to help you find your place history and walks you into a bar full of hardwood ceilings, long dark curtains and vintage chrome dipped lights, and a brass adorned bar top and Complete with turn of the century speakers on the wall!! (Im a bit of an audiofile so this really got me going). Based on our instructions to see "Anthony" we bellied up to the brass wrapped bar and waited patiently as the hostess went to find him. After introductions and explaining how we got there in the first place, we ordered our drinks. "Ill take a scotch please" "On the rocks or a scotch cocktail?" So let me say that I have been drinking scotch for as long as I can remember and I've only ever been given two options, on the rocks or neat. Never cocktail??!! What master mixologist Anthony presented me with with was what he called penicillin. An amazing concoction of lemon juice, ginger,honey and of course a heavy dose of scotch shaken hard over ice with a floater of single malt to balance it out. Garnished with lemon and candied ginger they are the perfect palate cleanser to another dose of "penicillin". After eagerly gulping down the 4/5 drinks Im sure I killed what ever viruses may have been floating around as well as a few brain cells. And as the medicine worked its way through me the elegant vintage ambiance started to set in, and started noticed in more detail what makes the vibe in this place so cool. The art deco light fixture behind the bar with its black geometric stripes casting shadows on the large beam dividing the two halves of the bar, the the fittingly dressed bearded suspender hipster style of the staff and relaxed chatter of the patrons and of course the vintage lights illuminating just enough light to see the other side of the bar but dark enough to feel That this place is serious about what it does. I've been very curious about this place for awhile and finally got my opportunity to check it out. I was worried this place would be too gimmicky and overshadow what might be a great drink experience, but found rather that it compliment the whole experience as it should. The first walk down the stairs takes you into a small bar area with a few booths and tables. This is one of those places that the small size of the bar actually ties things in together. The menu is put together perfect. Plenty of specialty drink choices, but nothing overwhelming. The same for the food menu. The drinks i had were outstanding and the same goes for the food. I can't wait to go back to try something different. An excellent drink can carry a bar pretty far, but when you have the staff that goes along with that drink it really sets things off. If i could give the staff 6/5 stars i would. They took the time to explain a few drinks and how things were made along with a brief background of the place. Outstanding From the bar to the table this place really has it all. It's one of the few places that i can't even complain about an expensive drink, because every bit of it is worth it. I went to the Sandoitchi pop-up at Midnight Rambler, and it was a blast! The service was personal and everyone was so friendly from the minute we showed up. The space and music were great, and the servers were attentive and funny. I had the 5 course pre-fixe meal with cocktail pairings and each course and cocktail was so flavorful, inventive, and surprising. I would definitely recommend Sandoitchi and Midnight Rambler, I know I'll be back. read more

The Midnight Rambler is the exception to the mediocre hotel bar standard. Great for a date night as the setting is dimly lit, cozy, and has a cool retro lounge vibe. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate after my fashion show and had a great time! There was a dance contest happening so the place was packed but still manageable and a lot of fun. We ordered two gin cocktails - a 1000W Thumper and Gin Martini. Although the service was pretty slow (granted the bar was very crowded) the drinks were definitely worth the wait! Even though I've lived in Dallas for 2 years, I'm still shocked that for about $10 you can get expertly crafted, delicious cocktails. We'll definitely be back. read more

After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to stopping by for a drink... I was a little disappointed. The cocktail menu seemed lacking and they were "out" of the first drink I ordered. I've been to other speakeasy type cocktails bars with pretty extensive menus of different concoctions. The waitress was courteous and knowledgeable but I probably would've had a different experience had I sat at the bar. I enjoyed the music that was playing, however, it was difficult to hear considering that many of the patrons were not "speaking easy". After a few rounds of drinks, my bf ended up ordering a mojito since most of their original concoctions did not seem that appealing. One of my favorite bars in the city. Located underneath the Joule Hotel, this bar encompasses everything you're looking for in a relaxed bar with a still lively and classy atmosphere. The bar has a very Gatsby-esque feel and succeeds in this with their decor and lighting. They have a pretty extensive drink menu, and every one that I have had has been delicious. The service was unacceptable. I brought a friend here visiting from LA. We were sitting down when a young woman came to the table and exclaimed loudly, "you need to leave, and you (pointing to my friend) need to button up your shirt". I was beyond horrified. Seating is one thing, yelling out in a crowded bar that someone's top is unacceptable is another. My friend was wearing a tasteful low cut shirt with no buttons and in front of several strangers she was yelled at for this. Startled, we quickly got up but I remembered the shirt comment. I went up 5 minutes after the incident to ask the hostesses name and then she followed me, screaming "What was wrong?! What was wrong?!" The atmosphere is awesome here. But then again, I've never been here on a Friday or Saturday night. I usually go Sunday nights or weekday evenings and it's great to have people in there but not too many. The bartenders were so helpful in choosing drinks for me. The drinks are really great! A bit pricey, but hey what can you expect with it being in the Joule hotel? As far as what reviewers have said about underage type people in here: Nothing I noticed but honestly anywhere you go in Dallas or in the U.S. there are occasionally underage drinkers in bars (fake ids?? Who knows) However, unless you see their ID, how do you know they're underage? I have several friends in their late 20s/early 30s who I swear look 18 still! Anyways, end of the day, if you want a "low-key" while still dressed nicely type of place to feel classy, this is an awesome place. Just be prepared to pay $12+ per drink. And hey, the bathrooms are nice so that's another plus ;-P read more

I went here on a Friday a few weeks ago w a couple girlfriends. I had heard great things about it, and since it's close by, thought we would check it out. I really liked the decor and the fact it's in the Joule, but when we were there it was a very unusual crowd. We left after one drink each, served in a thimble. Probably won't go back, esp since the bartender didn't know how to make a dry martini. Seriously? asked him to remake it twice thinking maybe he didn't hear me.. The worst evening out ever! This place is ridiculous... just as previous reviews have stated, they tell people they're at full capacity but they aren't. I was at the bar upstairs and another couple said they couldn't get in because of this reason, I walked in after telling them I was with a party and they gave me a few looks over and let me right in. While I was at the bar taking a selfie the bartender told me to sit the f* down. Needless to say, we left and I'll never go back. The music sucks too. The Midnight Rambler is a very pretentious bar trying to be cooler than they are. Went with some friends last night and the door man wouldn't let us sit in the empty lounge area saying it was reserved for large groups. Now, I'm no genius but 2 chairs and a loveseat would probably seat 4 maybe a cramped 5. We were a group of 4 but evidently they like everyone crowded around the bar fighting to get service for overpriced mediocre drinks. I don't even know how to describe the bizarre experience my friends and I had. As one of them said, "It's so insane, I think it might have been a hallucination from bad oysters at dinner." My first night in Dallas and my colleague and I had our eyes set on CBD Provisions, but when we got there (around 9:20 on a Sunday) we were informed their kitchen was closed. The host told us we could find good food downstairs at the Midnight Rambler (they actually share a kitchen with CBD, but they were still serving) so we ventured down and were not disappointed! The atmosphere was, as my colleague described "Like the kind of place where you need a password to get in". It was very cool, jazzy and hip; much like the other patrons we saw. It had that proper balance of lighting where it sets the mood yet you don't have to squint. The music was loud enough to enjoy but still carry on a (medium- high-volume) conversation. My colleague had the TX grilled cheese and I had the burger. He loved his sandwich, and the burger was just what I needed. The beef was incredibly flavorful and the tomato and lettuce were fresh. The bun was soft and held everything together pretty well (a bit messy but not unmanageable). The cheese could have melted a bit more, but I really did not have much at all to complain about! And the fries! Ah! You know when you get fries and one feels like it got a little extra crispy in the frier? That was how I would have described all of the ones I had here, so good! Oh, and our drinks were as excellent as the service! Bottom line: The Midnight Rambler is the kind of place I would come to often if I lived in Dallas! read more

Drinks are soooooo good and delicious and well made. Get the "Painkiller" - its this creamy yummy cocktail that goes down smooth. I also got a mai tai here, but wasn't sure if the bartender forgot the juice? Cause it tasted like pure alcohol and had enough liquid for two shots worth. But anyways, the drinks here are good. This jem of a bar is the epitome of dark, cool and chic! When JR and I decided, lets go for a spontaneous night out! He told me, look for mixology bars. Sure enough, Yelp led us to Midnight Rambler for a night we almost couldn't remember, haha! ;) MR is located INSIDE the Joule Hotel, and down a small flight of stairs, you'll find a bar that takes you back to the 30's. We came on a Sunday night, sat at the bar for a couple of hours, I had a couple of old fashioneds, and JR had a couple of Sazeracs. Our bartender (not sure of her name, but we did learn that she is half japanese, half filipino! cool chick.) was very knowledgable, friendly & generous ;) We also ordered a charcuterie board which was okay, nothing to really rave about. It came with a few pieces of toast, andouille sausage with a horse radish spread, pimento cheese, lamb prosciutto?, some pickled veggies that i wish i had more of! They were so good! I love pickled anything!! It also says on the menu that the food is provided by CBD provisions, which is pretty cool. Cool speak easy lounge in the basement of a boutique hotel with an elaborate drink menu. I have been coming here since day one. Expect drinks to be $10 and up besides beer. Come early because it gets crowded on weekends with standing room only left. Craft cocktails are key here, so expect a Minute for your drink to arrive. read more

What a fun find! I had never been here before and I highly recommend this cocktail bar to any visitor looking for a great time or Dallasite who was born and raised here (like myself). The drinks were delicious and the atmosphere was great. It had a very hip 60s/70s vibe going for it. I was only there for an hour and half, but every song they played was something my parents would have listened to. Which is such a nice change of pace in my opinion. It allows for fun dancing for all types and ages of people. The drinks are pricey, but you are paying for the venue and fun time. I saw people eating down there before the night go too rowdy (around like 9:30pm). I assume they get it from the restaurant upstairs in the hotel. My only complaint (and this is totally my opinion) is that it is friggin loud. The music is just straight up deafening, but hey...I still had a great time. I just suggest you either love yelling in each other's ears or you head somewhere else to chat. read more
