This bar is located in the basement of the Joule, and has a very speakeasy like feel. You have to walk down a set of stairs and you enter your very own Capone like dimly lit bar with specialty crafted cocktails and food from CBD provisions above. The bartenders are always super chill and actually provide suggestions based on ingredients you prefer to have in your cocktails. Although Downtown is still considered pretty dead when compared to Deep Ellum, Uptown, Addison, and etc., with the new condos and construction coming in, I am pretty sure this place is going to pop out of control very soon. read more

Awesome bar team... Zach, Will, Slick Vic and the rest! Food comes from upstairs--CBD. Highly recommend the burger and charcuterie. BUT you're not there just to eat. The drinks are fantastic and they have Dallas's most balanced rum selection. Rhums agricole, demerara, arrack, several Spanish and English styles. Also (at least the nights I went), pretty cosmopolitan music selections. Definitely heard some Mulatu Astatke (if you don't know... look it up... Ethiopian 60s almost-exotica jazz/lounge). I would start saying that I had been at this bar more than 10 times... And last night was the last one. They changed the menu, all the drinks that we ordered were ridiculously bad. One of them tasted like Fabuloso or Mr Clean (orange blossom or whatever... Stay away!) the other was made with pisco like a pisco sour but super sweet. This place really is as good as it gets, and I wanted to write a short note to thank the staff, especially Chance, for giving us a memorable experience. Chance helped me to pull off the perfect proposal to my future wife earlier this month at the Midnight Rambler, sitting at the table where we met two years before. He could not have been more helpful and accommodating, and the bar will always be a special place to us because of it. I have never written a yelp review (but read many), and I feel like this may be the one time a place has earned that effort.. The bar itself is awesome, with a throwback ambiance and a cocktail menu that doesn't disappoint. This is always a stop on our trips downtown for a pre or post dinner drink, as the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is very unique. Very cool speakeasy style bar in the basement of The Joule hotel. Came here for happy hour last Monday and ended up staying for the burger, which was delicious. The happy hour prices on the old fashions were decent, and the drinks themselves were good. Overall, I thought the experience was great until I looked at my credit card statement and the server added an extra $10 to his tip. I know because I made the total an even $100. Not smart on his part when it's such an even number. A little disappointed we will not be back. read more

Located on Main St, in the basement of The Joule Hotel. Walking down to the cocktail bar, I felt like we stepped back in time. The look and vibe of this bar felt very vintage. The bartender liked to describe it as "timeless." The bar is open seating and you can also check with the hostess stand if you'd like to sit at a table. Their drink menu offers a variety of cocktails, beers, wines, punch, and shots. They also have a small food menu with some yummy bites. The cocktails here are very innovative and unique. I appreciated some of the twists and unique ingredients that they used. I couldn't figure out what to drink when I was there because everything was so different, so the bartender Lindsay offered to create a cocktail based on what I liked! Thumbs up for great customer service! She made me a great cocktail that was sweet and floral since that's what I usually lean towards. My husband and I also shared their ice cream sandwich which was hands down the BEST ice cream sandwich we've ever had! Ginger cookie with pumpkin ice cream and then sprinkled with pumpkin seeds. It was so addicting that we came back the next night for another one! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the music got so loud that it became hard to have conversations. Cool place with a very nice vibe. It's chill, hidden, and the perfect after dinner place. I had dinner at CDB Provision, upstairs from the bar, and decided to have a cocktail or two after dinner. The narrow short stairwell leading down to the bar is dim and decorative. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink then another and another. The drink menu seems mature and I felt like an amateur. I don't particularly remembered what I ordered because it's been awhile but I remember the drinks were solid, they were serious about their drinks. The bartender was crafty, he knew his drinks and he enjoyed what he did. The place had a nice ambience that could easily steal your time which it certainly did mine. Worst service I've had in a long time. Myself and a group of colleagues came to Dallas for a National Convention. We heard about the midnight rambler and made it a mission to check it out before we returned to our destination. We arrived to the restaurant/bar around 10:30 and ordered our food no problem. The issue started occurring when our food took too long to arrive and also took along time for us to receive our check (20 minutes to be exact) worst service and worst timing. This place is filled with the type of crowd you'd find in a hotel bar in uptown or SoHo, except younger. That said, it is a hotel bar, in a nice hotel, so I shouldn't have been surprised. Given that there isn't much to do downtown, I didn't expect it to be so jammin, but that was clearly my mistake. If you can make it through the thick crowd to the back bar, service was excellent, but I'm not generally interested in paying $12 for 3oz of hand-crafted cocktailery, especially not while being constantly lightly shoved around by a teeming mob around me. At least the other patrons smelled good. They do also have really beautifully designed coasters, and the interior aesthetics were fantastic with some modern pieces, rich mahogany, and extravagant chandeliers. read more

What was my favorite downtown bar has turned into the biggest nightmare.. Downtown Dallas has very few great bars. Midnight Ramble has been one of my favorites until tonight. Midnight Rambler has both reserved seating and open seating. My group of three sat at their open seating only to have people from Plano/Frisco/non downtown complain that the seats were reserved for smokers outside. Inexperienced AGM Marco actually called the Dallas Police to escort us out. I've spent over $2k at the bar but Marco's management overruled a long term customer's experience. Chief of Security David agreed with my case but was locked into Marco's Nepolionic strategy. David was actually a wonderful balance to the horrendous Saturday night management team at the hotel but had zero ability to override. I attempted to contact the General Manager Jason Field only to be denied his email address by his employees Shayla and Drew. Both had no idea how to contact their boss. It seems very strange. No one could provide his email address. Clearly this hotel cares noting about feedback or guest experience. Stay away. This is by far the worst downtown bar (or at least the worst managed). If you're stuck dealing with Marco request someone with more experience. He has absolutely zero ability to manage a crowd. If you would like to reach out to his boss good luck. Late night, couldn't find anything to eat, new to downtown. Looked up nearest place open and this was it. Hiden under the Jewel hotel, was another gem. Midnight Rambler offers excellent cotails at an appropriate price. Don't bother going third for beers though. Selection is miniscule, but they had a few good beers. The menu was also sparce, but I was hungry and didn't really care what I ate. Went with the buger, added bacon and horseradish sauce. The meat was excellent, juicy and medium well, the bread was soft and buttery, and the horseradish added a real kick. The atmosphere was superb. I've come here with coworkers twice and have had a stellar experience both times. The staff are really friendly, and one of those times we sat at the bar right in front of the bartender's station and made him become friends with us. We had him explain all the drinks he made and their ingredients, and he told us what we should or should not keep on our cocktail bucket list. He also put up with questions that got gigglier as the evening progressed, and wasn't even bothered when someone knocked a drink over. That might have been the most fun I've had at a bar, just because of that guy. I've tried a grilled cheese, which was just fantastic. Like, a drunk guy at the next table asked what it was because it smelled so good. But the drinks. Oh, the drinks. There's something for everyone and it's ALL good. When we chatted with the bartender and told him our preferences, he gave us suggestions both on- and off-menu. They are cocktail artisans who take pride in their craft. There's no snottiness when you don't know what something is, and they genuinely want to make something you'll enjoy. The ingredients are made in-house, displayed beautifully, and used masterfully. Delicious cocktails and great vibes - down the stairs that are to the left of the entrance into the Joule Hotel... you'll see the small lightening bolt design on the door. Visiting from New York, it's nice to be at a cocktail/mixology-focused bar without being crammed into small corners or shoved between elbows at the bar. It's a spacious place with some tables for diners, the bar, and a lounge chair area further in the back next to a second bar (that wasn't manned at the time). I got a mezcal/pineapple cocktail which was absolutely delicious - the smokey mezcal and sweetness of the pineapple with some sour hints in there really balanced out well. We sat there for a good few hours just chatting and it was a comfortable environment with nice bartenders. The silver-dipped bulbs that decorated the ceiling were nice too! read more
