Recently picked up takeout. Ordering online was was super easy. First time trying sushi. Food was amazing. Staff was the best!

Went in on Saturday evening. There was only one table occupied but we were asked if we had a reservation. We did not and were seated right away though. After perhaps 30 minutes it seemed every table was taken so I guess we came at a good time. Both of us wanted the ramen so we ordered the Shioyu and chicken katsu ramen. Spicy Octopus roll and crispy calamari roll with some chicken karage. The rolls were surprisingly good and not too spicy. The karage tasted just like ones we have had in Japan. (Was just there in February-so the taste is still on our minds). The ramen was good but we thought it was a little funny that the chicken katsu was given as a side dish. Thought it would be incorporated into the ramen somehow. Still everything was delicious. For starts because the tables were so close and the party next to us had one woman take her shoes off and lay her foot on the chair across from her which happened to be next to where I've was sitting. Very good sushi at good prices outside of casino Came this way for some event, but needed something light for a meal. So we fired up yelp and found this place right across the street from the casino entrance. It's not much to look at from the front. It probably was a pretty successful Mexican restaurant before switching to sushi. The inside is very date night chiq, with nice seats and blue mood lighting. We hit a smattering of foods. Spicy edamame, some sushi pieces to try, and a special roll to share. Food came out quick, server was very nice but also not very present. The spicy edamame was actually peppery rather than spicy. Still a nice flavor and the amount of pepper was still hot. Just not blisteringly so like some places do with shiracha. The tamago was cold, and very savory. They used a mix of soy in the egg, giving it a salty savory bite. The rice portion was small but the rice was seasoned properly. The tuna was good, but basic. Rice was not enough for the fish portion. The specialty roll, I forget if it's the Incredible Hulk or the iron man. They all have super hero or year numbers. But the roll was good. The eel sauce and wasabi aoli were highlights. Sweet, savory, spicy goodness. The cream cheese was not overpowering and the only detractor was the tempura crunch on top. Only was texture, no flavor. Don't judge a book by its cover. While the outside might look like an old Mexican restaurant, the inside is a completely different story. Went for lunch on a Saturday, very slow but staff was friendly and attentive. The food was the star, deliciousness!! The best was the homemade Pan fried Goyza!! Every December a group of friends and I get for a Birthday Dinner. We loved this place so much it is our second here. The staff did an awesome job with 18 of us. They were on top of our needs. The food was all amazing. Everyone was super happy with their meal and drinks. I highly recommend their lychee Martini; the scorpion bowl is incredible, just make sure you are not driving, cause it is very strong. They have Sapporo on draft which is also great. Great place to stop in on the way home from a long work week! Easy to check in! You are welcomed quickly and offered a table or the bar. I chose the bar today. Delicious pain killer during happy hour. Today was a zero rice sushi day. Yes it is possible. I ordered the Queen roll, Naruto Tuna Maki and Edamame. All fresh and delicious. Yummy! I wanted to give this place a try to get their yaki udon. It has a smallish interior that seems equally split into two halves plus a bar. They had light instrumental jazz style music playing, and when I was here for lunch I was the only patron. In addition to their beef yaki udon I also got their lunch sushi sashimi special. Everything came out very quickly, and service was friendly and attentive throughout. The udon was pleasantly slurpy with a good beef flavor, no weak sauce here. The sushi sashimi plate was all fresh tasting, and I was happy to see tamago on the plate as that's unusual but a great closer. I would say the California roll is forgettable, largely cucumber with little else. Luckily I had plenty of other evidence to say this place can put out some good sushi. There's even chicken wings and fries for those who might be lost and out of place but dragged along by good company. Bathrooms are clean, dine in and bar area are clean. The Sushi was some of the best i've had! The service was ok, we were at the bar top with one other couple and it took them about 10 minutes to come up to us once or acknowledge that we were there. When the food came out it was so good and tasted fresh which a lot of them time with sushi it's not. The overall restaurant its self was really nice and had a nice vibe to it. First of all, the owners or the workers are not Japanese. You will not get an authentic experience but a "close" experience. That said, I will continue my review. I had the Japanese ramen and shrimp tempura. The Japanese ramen is pretty good compared to other ramen in the area, which is a low bar. The noodles are fine, broth is alright, the toppings are more Japanese than other restaurants. Where they fall short is the ramen egg (nitamago) and ramen pork (chashu), which are the main ingredients. The pork should be fatty and melt in your mouth. This one was thick, not fatty, and not melt in your mouth. Being the Chinese influenced part of Japanese ramen, it was surprising to see this pork was not the star. The egg was a little overcooked and not marinated as much as it could be. Japanese tempura is supposed to be lightly battered. Whoever made my tempura didn't get the memo. It was heavy in batter and it took away from the experience. read more

I've been disappointed with the sushi places near me so I decided to venture out to Mido's. The app was easy to use. Our order was correct. (You have no idea how many times our takeout had been wrong during these times!) I'm a little miffed the ramen was pricier than my fav. ramen place in Boston but we're in CT so I'll deal. We got both the shoyu and the miso ramen. Miso ramen has a chili pepper on the menu but it wasn't spicy. (My kiddo was able to drink the soup.) Noodles was chewy. The slices of pork was nice and thick. The egg wasn't the usual ramen soy egg (akitsuke tamago) - it wasn't salted enough and the center wasn't runny. Overall, it was good. Solid ramen. If you wanted to know, the leftover broth became solid in the fridge. A good sign that it's a bone broth with all that collagen! There was a great list of sushi rolls. We only picked two fancy ones: dragon roll (tempura shrimp & crabmeat rolled with eel & avocado) and the lonely angel roll (spicy yellowtail & avocado rolled with salmon & black tobiko). The rest was the usual sushi like the sweet potato maki and tamago sushi. It was all tasty - no complaints from my picky visiting Bostonian siblings. The sushi & sashimi deluxe is what shined. Clean cuts and nice sized slices. The fish was fresh. Good ratio of rice to fish. The chicken yaki udon was tasty. Mido provided fast service and the food had good flavor but the portions were very small. We had a large order including the grapefruit wings which were $12 but the order only had 5 small wingetts. I also ordered a dragon roll which was tasty but my order came up to $15 for the 1 dragon roll while my co-worker ordered from the pick 3 menu which included the same exact dragon roll and two other rolls for $17. This was such a lucky find! Not only is the restaurant really pretty, but the quality/quantity/price point is surreal! My dad's Chirashi bowl looked filled with fresh sashimi and he really enjoyed that the rice is seasoned at the bottom, I think with seaweed flakes. And my mom enjoyed her Unagi don as well. The eel was seasoned and cooked perfectly, not too chewy or dry. They gave nice chonky pieces too with seasoned rice underneath and tamago on top. I got the California dinner which had an ass load of rolls. I think one roll is 8 pieces. They were decent sized too and came with soup or salad. The pad Thai was yummy but I would skip on it next time as the other dishes we had really outshined it. I can't believe it was so inexpensive for the whole meal. This place is truly a hidden gem! My wife and I regularly have lunch there, about two times per month. They know us so well, we rarely even need a menu outside a possible appetizer switch. Out typical orders consist of the 3 roll Maki lunch, a combination of soup or salad (ginger dressing), and choices of 3 sushi rolls. Shrimp Avacado and Sweet Potato are two of our favorites. The rolls are cut into perfect bites sizes, always the freshest quality, and the avocado is buttery smooth. I'm addicted to rhe ginger dressing the use on the basic salads. We've rotated between the scallion pancakes, Tom Yum soup, and Rock'n Roll Shrimp appetizers, all fantastic! The Tom Yum is flavorful with a slight kick, not too spicy. The menu is versatile, and there's plenty of options like ramen dishes, pho, and various main entrees if you're not a sushi person. It's usually not overly busy around 1pm to 3pm lunchtime, and you can take advantage of the lunchtime deals on the sushi combos. Mido Sushi has consistently delicious food, prompt and friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. This place is truly a hidden gem, and just down the street from Mohegan Sun casino, easy to find. Was looking for a new local to Norwich sushi place. We drove up to it and the outward aesthetic was adorable! The parking seems like it could fit quite a few people. And it's open hours are pretty crazy late which is always good for the drinkers out there. We were seated and had our soup and salad under 15 minutes in, which is extremely suprising. (Sunday at around 7). The interior was so clean it seemed as if no one had even been there. We had our maki by 25 minutes in. A California, Avacado Mango, spicy crunchy crab and spicy cruncy salmon. Everything was super fresh and just absolutrly delish. 100% the new favorite (beating out sushi kawa). I even got seconds and Mango Japanese Mochi! They are very discriminatory with children. The owner sent us to a small table where they do pick. I asked the owner if there is a reason why we could not sit on the other side, on the main floor? She raised her and like "talk to my hand" and walked off and told another girl to talk to me. She told me because of the baby chair. The baby chair will take a lot of space, and it will be hard for other people to move around if they want to move. It is the weekend they usually expect a lot of people it will get busy having the child chair there it will not be comfortable for other people. They have probably 3 people at the bar and 3 other table with people. I asked her with difference it make if were 4 or 5 adults? She said they are expecting more people coming in they will need those tables free. That is the rule they have now, inclusive on Friday they have a lady that came in with a baby they did the same thing. It is the rule now at their restaurant. I asked her if that is the same rule for someone in the wheelchair? Because a wheelchair takes more space than a baby chair. She just kept on going with excuses after excuses. I prefer brown rice and this is one of the few good sushi bars that have it. So it is a go to for us. The shrimp ramen is a favorite as are the scallion pancake which is light and crispy, and not greasy.
