First time trying this place last night and it was very good. My husband and I sat at the sushi bar and our server was friendly, fast and informative about any menu questions we had. I got the Twisted Mermaid cocktail and it was light and refreshing. For a roll I got the Mermaid (it was a mermaid kinda night for me lol) and some salmon nigiri, both tasted very fresh and I also got an order of edamame. For sushi, Sushi Koya is very affordable given that the sushi is sizable and great quality. My partner and I walked in and were immediately seated. The vibe was calm and relaxed when we were there. My partner and I ordered the Dinosaur Eggs, the Salmon Lover Roll, and the Volcano Roll. Our server was friendly and efficient and took our orders in no time. The Dinosaur Eggs were true to their name because they were big. Taste-wise, they were pretty good but nothing special. The Salmon Lover Roll was our favorite and the mango in the middle didn't overpower the salmon (I find some salmon mango rolls to be too sweet). The Volcano Roll was also decent but nothing special. The fish for all the dishes were fresh though and the portions were great. If you don't wanna pay the price for a special roll, Sushi Koya also has Maki Mondays starting 8pm and you can get tons of maki rolls for cheap. This is a small restaurant that doesn't take reservations, but we were lucky to go on a quiet day. The service was friendly and the food was fast. The menu seemed pretty limited, but it is a small restaurant so they do a lot with what they've got. We ordered the high roller (with a Little Tokyo roll) and a Christmas roll. The Christmas roll was quite good, but we had a few issues with the high roller plate. The Little Tokyo roll has a lot of ingredients, but the menu didn't list spicy sauce as one of them, and unfortunately it was there like the guest you didn't invite to your party but they show up anyways. Even without it, the other issue was that everything blended into one generic flavor with no real standout. I'd have to recommend getting a more focused roll if you're looking for one flavor or another, it's a real shame to have so many great ingredients but not really the taste of any of them. The other issue was the shrinkflation present in the nigiri portions. The slices were very thin, so while they plated 10 pieces, they were each half pieces, so it was 5 normal size nigiri. Would I say what we got was worth $160? Absolutely not. In good news, they have a military discount. This is not the best sushi at not the best prices, but if it's Tuesday and the best place is closed, this isn't horrible. read more

Got the Sushi appetizer which was good but nothing to write home about, might have been pre-made sitting in ice? Given that the fish doesn't look shiny. but it's a much better deal at $12 than the Sushi regular ($28 for 7 ). After a CT Suns game, my friends and I popped into Sushi Koya to grab a few rolls before we headed back home. We were greeted by the beautiful host and sat with menus for us to peruse through. The menu wasn't super extensive so it was easy to make a selection. I got the shrimp tempura and avocado roll which took about 15 minutes to come out. The food was good, ambience was great and our waiter was very personable without being overbearing. Only thing I didn't care for was how cold it was in there. Visited for lunch on Sunday. Our server, David, was excellent! My daughter really wanted to try a sushi donut, but she's not a fan of spice, which they all seemed to include. Luckily, maybe because it was slow, but it seemed to be absolutely not an issue, so she ordered the Salmon Sushi donut (not spicy) $20. What came (see photo) was so fun, absolutely fresh and so delicious. She was overjoyed and there was a ton of fresh fish both inside and out. I ordered the Christmas roll ($21) and it did not disappoint! I think it's now my favorite sushi roll ever! I'm still thinking about it and I know not every sushi place makes them and they're certainly not up to par with the freshness of this one! Yes, it's expensive. You are at a casino in Connecticut. Sushi hut/cabin I was at Mohegan Sun and was craving seafood. I was heading to Summer Shack when I saw this place. After my experience at Mori Sushi (I know you read that review), I wanted to try again. I was drawn to the neon sign and the board that said sushi pizza?!?!?! It's self seating and the waiting staff also covers the Summer Shack restaurant which was "look over your shoulder" close. I asked about the pizza which is rice shaped like a pizza crust with toppings on top. Funny that sounds like a POKE BOWL back home just......well in a bowl. I asked about the Sushi donut and well it's rice surrounding the fillings. Funny that sounds like a sushi ball back home. And I asked about the dinosaur eggs. I got this and you can gander at the pics. It's actually cool but difficult to eat. I also wanted one roll and couldn't decide between the Pacific Ocean or the American Dream. Both I've never heard of before. My server picked the American Dream for me. I like the roll you can dissect and recognize all the different parts of the roll unlike Mori's. The crab wasn't oily and had a nice crunch to it. The dinosaur eggs were funny. It's a tuna sushi ball wrapped with avocado all the way around and topped with masago. You get two and even through they look fantastic it's really really difficult to eat with chopsticks. I had to stab it and break it apart put some soy sauce and take pics. I don't feel this is worth the price or the taste. Overall four stars. The food okay and I really like the service and the decorations. Sushi Koya, a fairly new addition to Mohegan Sun's list of restaurants located in the Sky Tower. Quaint, little gem of a restaurant, with table occupancy for about 20, plus a Sushi Bar to accommodate 8 more. The ambient lighting sets a warm and inviting environment, with waitstaff rounding out the friendly, polite and efficient service. As for the food. No lie, Sushi Koya reminded me of my first sushi foodgasm. Foodgasm: "The physical and emotional sensation experienced at the peak of an eating experience, usually resulting from stimulation of the taste buds and accompanied by a great atmosphere." Who knew walking into this restaurant would allow me a chance to relive an experience I hadn't come across in quite some time. To start, there was a play on the ever present Miso soup. Sushi Koya recreated this soup into a Lobster Miso...Can anyone say depth upon rich depth of flavors? The secondary app, Dragon Eggs, were uniform balls of thinly sliced avocado neatly wrapped around smooth, spicy tuna tartare with an addition of crunchy textures...sooo good! The mains chosen were your standard chef specialty rolls; Godzilla, Pink Lady and an item called American Dream. All of these rolls were fresh, mouth filled burst of flavors. Warm where they needed to be warm, plus cool and crunchy where needed. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Sushi Koya reminded me as to why I enjoyed eating sushi in the first place and now, if at all possible, I will try to never settle for anything less than the best in this cuisine. I drove up to Mohegan Sun resort for the Barrett Jackson auto auction with a friend. We were looking for something light to eat. There are so many choices at the resort we decided on sushi. This was a small restaurant in comparison to the restaurant next door. The decor was nice and the restaurant was clean. We had a couple of rolls and edamame. The rolls were excellent, tasted very fresh, and the prices were very reasonable especially for a hotel. I found the waitress to be very nice and accommodating. We had the Christmas roll, Godzilla and Fancy Lobster roll. The Godzilla roll has a fried component to it and this was our favorite of the 3. The rolls could have been cut smaller or more uniformly since they are such a huge bite to commit to. Service was friendly and attentive enough. Despite the busyness the server was very friendly and attentive. And the sushi was amazing and fresh, they didn't skimp on the fish with fillers. And they cleaned out tables thoroughly before we sat down. Everything tasted very clean, I was very pleasantly surprised.
