Really disappointed in their service. Total waste of a day bringing my car in. Brought my car in at 8:30am for a service, attendant said they'll take a look at it, and 5 hours later still no call back. I called for an update and they said it's still scheduled to be looked at and they have a really high workload for the day. He said they will look at it but whatever the issue is it will not get fixed until the next day because it's already almost 2 pm. I get businesses are busy and online appointments are not reliable, but why not say up front how busy they are for that day & that there's a chance my car will not be worked on. Im sure they had an idea of how busy they would be and if I had known it would take 2 days, I would not have left my car there. Not to mention, 8:30am is still early enough for me to go to a different place to get my car repaired for the day. It's just very inconsiderate. read more

Booked an oil change online. When I showed up, they had no record of the reservation but said they would squeeze me in. Nearly 4 hours later (and about an hour before closing) I still had not heard anything, so I called. My car was already done but no one called to let me know. Pickup was confusing. Staff could not find my paperwork at first. Then the total was $98 even though the website listed oil changes at $55. I was told my car needed "more expensive oil," but the invoice showed $50 in labor alone. First time customer. Not sure I will be back. My car suddenly stared to fault and shudder on me downtown and I had to have it towed to Midtown right before they closed! They were very kind over the phone and reassured my that I could leave my car in their lot and drop my keys off in a drop box. As a younger female presenting person, I have never felt taken advantage of and have always felt respected and kindly regarded at this Goodyear. Brian in particular has been especially helpful both times I've been. I went a few months ago for a hole in my tire and more recently for an oil change/tire rotation. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure my problems are taken care of, as well as any other customer I have seen in person. I've always had to go day-of due to immediate need, and they've always fit me in their schedule. I'm always willing to pay just a tad more for really good service. I always know my car will be taken care of, and I won't have any further issues. Despite being busy, Brian even walked me to my car to make sure I got out okay. If I could give them 100 stars, I would! On the day before Christmas Eve, I went out to discover that someone had bashed in my car's rear window. I took it to Midtown just to see if they could close it up until I could get it fixed. When he heard my story, Manager Bryan really took action. He was angry that someone would commit senseless vandalism, and he was determined to help. Long story short, he took care of everything: insurance, billing, ordering, etc. He told me that he could have my car to me by the next morning and that he'd keep it secure overnight. I was really relieved. A few hours later, he called to say that it would be ready that same evening. Sure enough, I arrived at 7:00 PM to find the great staff cleaning the new glass and expertly vacuuming the interior to remove all traces of broken glass. What a Christmas gift! On top of everything else, the bill couldn't have been more reasonable. I had been to Midtown a couple of years ago with my daughter for a new tire. In summary I think this place upsells pretty aggressively and their service is not great. They ignored numerous requests of mine, left trash in my car, and I ended up with a scratched steering wheel at the end of it because of either their mechanics or the towing company they recommended. Obviously you should take some parts of my review with a grain of salt as I am not an auto mechanic, but I definitely got the impression they were doing more work than was necessary, and they ignored my requests to explain why. My car had about 60,000 miles on it, a manual transmission that has been pretty well taken care of. I got into it two weeks ago and put my foot down on the clutch, which went straight to the floor and didn't pop back up. Obviously bad. I did a little researching and it seemed that, given the clutch had been previously working fine and not slipping, maybe the master/slave cylinders needed replacement which I would expect to be able to be done for around a thousand bucks including labor (much cheaper if you were to do it yourself obviously). I called Midtown Auto and they recommended a towing service. The tow truck came out, towed the car, and then I later received a call from Midtown Auto. They said that probably the whole clutch needed to be replaced and that it would be about $3,000. I asked the attendant (who was nice, but as I would find out later either evasive or forgetful) about whether they could just take a look at replacing the master/slave cylinder which is a much smaller job. I told him they could replace the clutch, but I wanted to know about why it wouldn't suffice to just do the cylinders. He said he would ask the mechanics about it and call me back. Well, he never called me back. They started work on replacing the clutch and that was that, $3000. Luckily I can cover this, but if I was someone of less means that could've been a pretty awful surprise, and possibly/probably unnecessary. Then I went to pick up the car. I found that they hadn't run the car through a carwash, as they had said they would previously. I talked to the attendant and he showed me the clutch that was previously in my car. I asked if I could take it home (I figured I might use it for an art project or something) and he told me no... I was like "but this is my property? I brought it in? it was part of my car?" and his response was "not really." WTF? So then after paying the $3000 (which I did check as a legitimate price against another local autoshop, so at least they're not overcharging), a few days later my check engine light came on. I also found my driver's side automatic window wasn't working properly. I called up Midtown, brought the car back in, and they found what they said was a leak. The attendant said he'd waive the inspection fee like he was doing me some kind of favor. I asked that the car be washed when I came back to pick it up, but of course it wasn't. There was trash in it that definitely wasn't mine, and there may or may not have been a roll of single bills missing from my center console. Really disappointing. I would not recommend going to this place. They are superficially friendly but I found that they ignored most of my substantial requests for information. My steering wheel still has a substantial scratch on it and I have basically no recourse for that. I have very low confidence that I wasn't overcharged here, and I definitely won't be going back. read more

Look, I know we're all struggling during COVID, but these guys are downright thieves. I brought my car in after it stalled on me twice while driving. I have a 2017 Equinox with 58K miles, & the shop graciously let me know that Chevy engines are problematic and "2 cars in the shop are having engines replaced right now." BE AWARE: The shop tried to have me sign a form authorizing them to proceed with all repairs without my approval. I refused to sign this line, and only initially approved the cost of the inspection. The shop quoted me $2,500 for brakes, solenoids, some sensors I didn't wind up needing, and spark plugs. Equinoxes have very accessible engines, and getting to the solenoids requires little effort. Replacing the intake/exhaust should take maybe an hour, and Midtown quoted me $447 just for labor (4 hours' worth), so $647 in total. I called other shops, and every other place quoted around $250 for solenoid parts and labor. A $400 difference is pretty extreme. And it doesn't take a genius to know that solenoid replacements in this car don't require 4 hours of work. I let them know I wouldn't be moving forward, and they claimed the car shouldn't be driven at all and the solenoids needed replacement immediately. Drove my car to Logan Square Auto Repair and got the solenoids done for $280, taxes and all. Took my car out to the burbs @ End-of-the-Line Auto Repair, and paid $650 for brakes, rotors, air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs, lug nut replacement, and an oil change. So I got everything done for less than $1,000 when Midtown wanted $2,500. A reasonable difference between shops is a couple $$$. And yeah, it's Lincoln Park, but Logan Auto is only 3 miles away... so don't fall for the "but it's Lincolnnnnn Parrkkkk" pricing trap. read more

Some time pre-COVID, the transmission in my well-maintained #ToyotaRav4 built circa 2002 began acting strangely, with all manner of goofy and scary malfunctioning. Toyota terms it a "harsh shift condition." During stay-at-home the car was parked for 4 months while I discovered an automotive repair shop I'd trust to replace the transmission if need be. I found Midtown Auto Repair based on its AAA recommendation and 5-star Yelp reviews. I approached the whole situation with much trepidation, but Bryan at Midtown was consistently available and enormously helpful in talking through every step along the way of an arduous Rav4 adventure. The car was towed to them in June and I followed by Lyft. I was completely impressed with the look of the facility, the cleanliness and comfort of the waiting area, and Bryan's attentiveness to my concern. (And the staff kindly and safely wear masks; important to me.) Long story short: Midtown replaced the transmission (Bryan even told me a little about this new car part). After a few drives back home, it malfunctioned. Distressed, I took the car back. Midtown confirmed the malfunction and replaced the transmission with another, no questions asked, free of any charge. Again, after a drive at home, the transmission malfunctioned. I think I remember crying. I took the car back to Bryan. He didn't think I was crazy!! At least, he didn't show it. So we both cogitated for a day or so. It turns out following my Googling and his internet research on ProDemand.com, that the malfunction of the transmission in high milage (80,000+) Rav4s, 2001 - 2003 is caused by a melt-down in the Engine Control Module (ECM) that controls the automatic transaxle. It's an issue that may have been recognized about a decade ago; it's not in the normal repair lexicon in 2020! But together we found old documentation of the issue and Midtown replaced the ECM. Cost me a little more, but I'm invested in this car and any repair beats the price of a new Toyota! My baby is back and running as smoothly and beautifully as ever! I can't thank you enough Bryan and Midtown for your patient and knowledgeable support as we worked through the adventure together. Without your help I might have junked my car as a lost cause. Now I'll have many fine driving days ahead with my Rav4. read more

Alternator went out on my car. Took it in and had it replaced. Went out again less than a week later. Returned it to the shop. They replaced the alternator again. Went out a THIRD TIME less than a week later while on a major interstate. I could've been killed. Took it in one final time and they finally had the decency to check more than the alternator. Turned out to be a wiring issue. You'd think they'd do a better job after a supposedly brand new alternator gave out so suddenly so soon. No. These guys will do the bare minimum with no regard for safety. After they replaced the wiring I took it to another shop to verify the work they did. The place didn't even charge me to take a look. They're just flat out untrustworthy. Do not go here. read more

Please avoid this shop. My fiancee brought my car here for a simple oil change and the shop overfilled the oil by over a liter. After this, when trying to receive a refund since we had to do the oil change again at a different shop, the team at the shop provided no support or communication. I was told multiple times that the manager would call me back to resolve this, but that never happened. Once I did get a hold of the manager, he seemed to just make up reasons why the refund couldn't be given. I've now given up trying to get a refund after getting excuse after excuse why the refund was delayed. I can understand that mistakes happen, but the shop doesn't seem to care about making up for their mistakes. My advice is to look elsewhere to get your vehicle serviced. read more

If dishonesty was an Olympic sport, this shop would have a wall of gold medals. Paid up front over $3,000 for new tires and a new rim to replace a bent one on my car. They had the car for a few days, replaced the tires, and week later I noticed the same bent rim on my car. I came back to the shop and they told me they forgot to do it and would get back to me. Then they said they sent the new rim back to the distributor and would order another. Obviously I asked for a refund then because that didn't sit right with me. They told me they would get back to me, and didn't give me an answer for over a month. I called my cc company to issue a chargeback. I just got an update today that they are fighting the chargeback, and they gave statements that they repaired and painted the rim, which they don't even do at that shop. I have the bent rim on my car to this day and cc company has pics of it. read more
