Awful care with a luxury used car dealer veneer. Dentists shilling clinically useless services and ultra high prices. Stay away.

TL;DR - stay far away. Recommends unnecessary treatments, high pressure sales tactics. Now that I've found another dentist that actually gets me, I feel that I should warn anyone else that is thinking about coming here..... I wanted someone that would do IV sedation for procedures (I need a decent amount of work done, and knew that). These guys ticked that box, but that's the only one. These people will rip you off at every opportunity, and they won't give you a treatment plan that you can take elsewhere for another opinion. First strike is to call to schedule an appointment. I ask if they do sedation, and they tell me that they don't! "But you should come in and talk to us anyway". Get in the office, they apologize for the misinformation, they actually DO offer sedation as a service. Weird that the entire office wouldn't know what they do and do not do, but whatever. Minor red flag. The doctor at the first cleaning was actually pretty good, she was quite nice. However, the red flags started going up at the end of that visit. They wouldn't give me a treatment plan, and instead required me to take another day off work and talk to the "head dentist". I'm a quite busy person at my job, clearing my calendar for a day is difficult. Anyhow, I do this. Get there, and I'm told that I "need" $50-60K worth of treatment, including the placement of crowns on every tooth. Then it comes out that this is mostly for aesthetics, and not necessary. The "necessary" work included 5 root canals (0 are actually necessary) and some fillings (unfortunately since they didn't give me a printed treatment plan, EVEN AFTER TAKING THE DAY OFF, I'm not sure off the top of my head how many (however, I'm actually getting 3 fillings in my first appointment, and 3 in the second - which can be scheduled whenever - with my new dentist).All of this comes to the low price of around $27K. The whole appointment sounded more like a sales pitch than someone that wanted to help me. They just saw $$$ and ran for it. They attempted to get me to schedule without delay, and to do everything in one appointment (under sedation, obviously). Being under sedation for that long is not in the best interest of the patient, major red flag there. Obviously, I want a second opinion before committing to this sort of money or amount of dental work, regardless of the cost. So I request my x-rays, something that any dental office should be able to provide in about 60 seconds. They tell me that this takes "7-10 days" to accomplish, when in reality it takes 7-10 MINUTES, if you're being slow. I raise a bit of a stink in the office, and they tell me that they can have them for me by the time of my second opinion appointment (and they kept this commitment). However, in another review here it says that there are difficulties in the records release process. Makes you wonder why they don't want you to have them, right? A patient has a legal right to have their records and do whatever it is that they want with them. I'll add some icing on this cake from an observation in the waiting room while waiting for the USB stick with the x-rays. A young woman came out of the treatment area, again probably a new patient. She was trying to schedule a tooth extraction or something, and was in considerable pain from the sounds of it. Unfortunately, the first available oral surgeon appointment in the office wasn't for a little while. She explicitly asked if there was anywhere else that she could go, and was effectively told no. If they won't refer out people who are in pain that are asking for that, what kind of practice are they running here? Just in it for the money, and anything that would cause them to lose any is unwelcome. read more

I wish I'd read the Yelp reviews for this disgraceful establishment before I went here. My bad. The reviews on the Facebook page are carefully curated. Should've known better. I traveled from upstate and was already in the dental chair when I was told that the specific periodontist I was scheduled to see (who needs to be booked at least 6 weeks in advance) no longer worked there. Did an exam anyway, and afterwards was told they didn't accept my insurance, even after I had sent it to them three times in the six weeks prior. The most telling moment was when I got up and walked out, no one batted an eyelash. Because obviously that is routine there. read more

After spending 6 months under the care of Midtown Dental Excellence, I had a check-in and wisdom teeth extraction scheduled for the same week. My check-in got cancelled 30 minutes prior to the appointment on a Tuesday as I was traveling to the Dentist Office. Later that week, I called again on a Thursday to confirm my wisdom teeth extraction on Friday, and that was when they decided to tell me less than 24 hours in advance that they needed to cancel and reschedule my extraction. I had already had my family member flying in from Arizona to New York to care for me post-procedure, wasting the entire trip and a large load of money. Once this occurred, I realized that Midtown Dental Excellence was trying to squeeze every dollar out of me they could (someone in their early 20s with nowhere near enough money to pay for the procedures they were suggesting) with unnecessary treatments that I had never needed from my prior dentist. After being cancelled on with less than 24 hours notice and spending money on a flight for my family member, I decided to ask twice, both in office and over the phone for a refund of my deposit for the wisdom teeth extraction. When I was in the office, they flat out denied - saying it was non-refundable. When I called them, they put me on hold for 15 minutes, then said they were too busy and would call back later that day. I called again to ask a couple days later, they put me on hold for 20 more minutes saying they would put me in touch with the finance team, then said they were too busy and hung up. I get a call later that day, and it is the front-desk staff saying they cannot refund. Then, they attempted to guilt trip me saying that I needed to have the procedure done at their office because I "needed to get them out soon" and I was their patient. Admittedly, I enjoyed working with my dentist, Dr. Danielle Winters; however, while at Midtown Dental Excellence I couldn't help but feel like I was constantly getting scammed out of my money. They practiced every sales tactic in the book (and I know because I work in sales), and even though I evaded most of them, I couldn't help but feel like I spent a ridiculous amount of money for random things that "just came up." Not to mention, on two occasions, I paid the bill for work done, and they called me up a day later saying they had made a mistake and I needed to pay them more. Since then, I've actively recommended AGAINST going to Midtown Dental Excellence to anyone I know considering a new dentist. Proceed with caution. read more

Everyone at the front desk was friendly. I came in for a cleaning and because the dentist I scheduled with had good reviews on zoc doc forgetting that the dentist does not really do anything when you get a cleaning. I think the hygienist who worked on me was new. Someone else had to show her how to do some of the things and I had a bunch of problems I've never experienced before, she told me my gag reflex was too strong while doing x rays (never been an issue before) and told me next time to put salt on my tongue before I came in. They took x rays and did photos and after an hour they hadn't started my cleaning. The dentist I had an appointment with came in for about 2 minutes. Told me I needed a mouth guard and Invisalign because that "could" be the cause of gum recession. No one ever mentioned flossing which is usually all they talk about at the dental office. They told me I had to have two old silver fillings removed and redone. The cleaning was very wet. Again I've never had this problem before. I got poked in the eye by the little mirror on a stick. My sense was that they wanted to up sell as much as possible. Maybe the old cavities need to be replaced but I don't trust the dental staff there and I asked for my x rays to go someplace else. read more

I had an old type of veneers that were, at the time 15 years ago, great for me because they were thin and required hardly any shaving of the tooth; however, this technology did not really hold up causing them to chip and space apart. I was reluctant since I'm a bit squeamish with the dentist and I was afraid to make yet another investment in my teeth. Midtown Dental Excellence was around the corner from my job and my coworker spoke highly of them, so I decided to give them a shot with a cleaning appointment. They fit me in on my lunch break and were very efficient and gracious. After my cleaning, I met with Dr. Simon to inquire about new veneers. He explained how the type of veneers I had were not sustainable and were from a company that had since been liquidated because of it. I appreciated his honesty, and I felt comfortable moving forward with the new veneers. I am blown away with how accommodating they were with appointments for my veneers given my hectic work schedule. The front desk always greeted me with a smile and acknowledged me by name. After every appointment, I received a text from the office checking in on me. There are a lot of extra touches that make it truly a luxury experience for a dental office. Dr. Simon made the veneer process pleasant. He did a great job and made sure that I was comfortable. When the veneers came he saw one of them wasn't just right. I honestly didn't notice, but he really wanted to make sure they were perfect. I really appreciated him going the extra mile to ensure perfection. I can't get over how great my smile looks. Would highly recommend them. Everyone in the front office are so warm. Staff is friendly, but doctors change so often I have never seen one more than twice. My last cleaning was awful and the dentist did a telephone consultation - at no time was I told that I would not be seen by a dentist during the visit. I'm writing this review now because my expensive implant (four years old) failed and had to be removed. Had the dentist seen me, perhaps they would have caught the beginning of the damage. read more

Ok so every time I call and visit Midtown Dental Excellence the staff makes me feel like I am their #1 priority. It's very special. Also, since I don't have great teeth I get very nervous going to the dentist and at Midtown Dental Excellence I feel like I am in not only good hands but highly capable and talented hands. My experiences so far with Dr Simon and Dr Riviera it became clear very quickly that they love teeth! They are knowledgeable and excited about what they do. They are definitely in the right business and I think that's lucky for their patients. I highly recommended them if you want excellent treatment start to finish for your dental care. Had to pay $1,500 out of pocket to correct the mistakes made at this office. If all you care about is a pretty/high tech office than this place is for you. If you'd rather not have a dentist turn your teeth green and chip them along the way find another provider! Theres also some funny business with insurance billing going on... I had been coming to the Dentist that sold this practice for over 20 years and continued when the practice was sold. Needless to say I left my last appointment angry, disappointed and surprised at their unethical behavior. I have two bridge implants and one side keeps popping off, I've had it re-cemented twice. At the second visit the Dentist said he didn't like the style of the implant, which was done at this practice, and would like to change it. I received a phone call from the practice that for $18k they would put new implants on that side - I thought that was outrageous. I was forced to go back a third time because the implant once again popped off, which I was informed by another Dentist I had a "faulty" implant and she was not going to cement it - she was uncomfortable. I was upset with that response since it was done here twice before. She left the room came back minutes later and said she would temporarily cement it if I signed a waiver relieving them of all responsibilities In the event it popped off again and I asphyxiated on it! Obviously I wasn't signing it and left. I never heard from the practice and it's been two weeks! They would not accept any responsibility for their work and I'm left with an implant that continuously moves and is hindering my quality of life. read more

Amazing Customer Service and Dentists I have never experienced a doctor's office that was so hands on and helpful with answering insurance queries. They never put the burden on me to call my insurance to sort things out, which is the response I'm used to getting. Not only do they answer questions in person or over the phone, but they always respond in a reasonable amount of time (next day or two) via email, which is super helpful when dealing with a complex insurance issue, and/or you want to share or receive documents. Also, every time I've walked into this dentist office I've been greeted like the people at the front desk just saw an old friend come in, and it always brightens my day. :) Lastly, the doctors are EXCELLENT, including the staff that support them. Office is nice and clean, staff is welcoming, hours are accommodating. However, my oral surgeon gave me "attitude" after I didn't want to opt for the extra medication he suggested I take during my surgery, which would have cost me an extra $750 to $1000. He had his hands in my mouth while saying "well you wouldn't be feeling discomfort if you had the treatment." I found that to be extremely rude, and overall uncomfortable while I was already having a painful procedure. He made it obvious that for him it was all about the money. After receiving a second opinion, those drugs were not necessary. read more

Everyone that works here is SO sweet. Absolutely love the staff BUT they've called and rescheduled almost every single one of my appointments. Which is hard since I've had to take time off of work to come in. This is the third time I've had to reschedule with them. Dr. Simon Roytberg fixed my chipped tooth (that I had previously gotten fixed in this office) at no charge, so quickly and efficiently and even better than the first time I got it fixed! Not to mention fit me in the day after it happened during the 4th of July week. I got a chance to visit Dr. Simon Roytberg at his new location at 515 Madison. I am a regular customer at his Battery Park office. I was impressed with the setup of the offices and the view from the dentist chair, which includes the Empire State Building. Of course, the best part is Dr. Roytberg's caring expertise. The staff are also very helpful. I guess that's why I have been a customer of his practice for more than three years. My visits included some implants. read more

This is the first time in my life that I have had an excellent dental experience. I have a small mouth, and dentists frequently complain about my mouth being "difficult." Perhaps, worse, I typically leave with an aching neck, stiff jaw, and cracked lips--not to mention the soreness inside my mouth. Earlier this week, I lost part of a filling. I had seen a dentist from another practice (twice!) who did nothing to mitigate the pain that I had been feeling. I called Midtown Dental Excellence, and the receptionist found an appointment for me immediately. When I met with Dr. Chauhan, I found her to be the most patient, gentle dentist. She took the time to listen to me--really listen--and to make certain that I wasn't in any pain while she replaced my filling. Moreover, the hygienist double checked with me about what my insurance would cover before each procedure. I only wish that I had found this office sooner. I couldn't be happier with my treatment, and, finally, look forward to my next visit to the dentist. read more

Not typically someone to post a Yelp review, but with my experience here I feel I should. I went in for a 6 month cleaning and consultation after recently moving to Manhattan and seeing good reviews for this place. The cleaning was professional, and extremely informative. The dentist even went through each problem area in my teeth and explained them all very detailed. My typical dental appointments in the past have lasted 30 minutes average, but this took almost an hour. I didn't think anything of it since it was a first visit. However...after my visit, I was sat down with a financial advisor to discuss my dental insurance plan and financing for various work they suggested I would need (fillings, crown, and deep cleaning). This is where I started to get frustrated and the whole thing started to feel like a scam. The woman sat with me for at least 30 minutes, mentioning financing plans for this work that would cost me out of pocket almost $5000. I have very good dental insurance and there is no way it should cost this much. It felt more like they were trying to sell me cosmetic fixes. The whole visit took almost 2 hours, and I left feeling extremely frustrated for wasting my time there. Recently, I received a letter in the mail from them that was meant to be "personalized" where they stated " we can't wait for you to come back and learn more about your new job at the discovery channel" (I'm a nurse...). Thought they were so sweet and nice at first.... however, every time I went in they claimed I had another new cavity. In December, Midtown Dental Excellence told me I had 4 cavities and had to pay $500 out of pocket. This sounded absurd since I never had cavities growing up, so I went to my dentist at home to get a second opinion. He told me he saw no cavities (after taking new X-Rays because Midtown Dental wouldn't send them over). INSURANCE FRAUD - so wrong. read more

They were the worst, highly unprofessional. I tried to have my son's x-rays (root canal, infection) forwarded to a new Dentist. They told me they had 10 days to send them, when I told Stephanie the manager that his appointment was the next day since her office identified him having an infection, she told me to have the new dentist X-ray my son's teeth again (8 days after initial X-ray). These are medical employees, you would think they would be more sensitive to patient needs. They wouldn't email the X-rays and told my son he can pick them up when Gail gets back from vacation (following Monday) though Stephanie admitted Gail was in yesterday but too busy to send an email. We had been trying to obtain the X-Rays for a few days and they keep changing the procedure. Extremely Frustrating read more

I had a terrible experience at Midtown Excellence. In fact, in retrospect, the name of this practice is hilariously misleading. For one, the practice told me they were in-network and then charged my insurance as if they were out-of-network. Then they told me that the reason they'd done this was because they were in the process of getting in-network with my insurance company and thought it would be done by then. So essentially, they straight-up lied to me, and then charged my insurance in a way that would benefit them. But that's not all. I also was told by Dr. Charmaine Ip that I had three -- yes, three -- cavities, and also a loose sealant, all of which would need to be filled or replaced. When I went to my trusted family dentist to get a second opinion, I was told I had no cavities. None! I don't know how to explain all of the above except that this practice is trying to get as much money out of its patients as possible. Don't go here. read more

This dental practice definitely worth its name Excellence. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Premises are clean and very comfortable to be in. Doctors are skilled especially endodontist Dr Marsheh. Not only very professional but also explained details about the procedure and what to expect. Didnt feel any discomfort during or after treatment and it was super fast even if my teeth are not very easy to work on since roots are twisted. Office receptionists called that same day to check on me and I am very thankful for such care from the first step in to the moment i was completely healed. Highly recommended! read more
