First time going. Was excited because it was fairly close to where I lived. Got a mani and pedi. My nails were already dipped, I just needed a refill & cut down. It was hard to communicate that to them so what the nail technician did was refilled them with acrylic which was obviously a different color from my nude dipped polish & then gel polished over my nails with almost the exact nude which I'm pretty sure costs more than just giving me a refill. My mani wasn't neat& is also pretty bulky. The lady that did my pedi was very friendly but I don't think she put enough coats on my toes. I got the deluxe $45 pedi. Which includes the paraffin wax (LOVE IT). Before I could even make a decision she kept suggesting it. Wasn't able to get a design because they were super busy & I already been there for awhile and had to wait for someone else to do the design. I'm pregnant. No one helped me put my slippers on like they usually do at salons so when I got home I noticed one foot was totally messed up to where I couldn't not go back. I paid $90 for everything. Which normally wouldn't be pricy for me but considering what I got and the work that was done, was a bit frustrating. When I went back they were more than happy to do it and told me they will help put my slippers on this time. There were no dryer so I set under a mini fan for an hour just waiting on the woman to come back. She never did and I got so hot I thought I would pass out if I stayed any longer. So I left. So, after quite a bit of time, I returned to Midtown Retreat Hair Salon and Day Spa. I always knew this place had potential, but I had a hard time finding a sweet spot time slot for my nails. The new discovered sweet spot is lunch time appointments :) In the past, I've always gone on a Friday or after work (around 6pm) or sometimes, I even went during the week in March (only to realize that it was Spring Break, and they were packed). So, I read the reviews about this place and wanted to know if anything had improved. I think over time, they have really improved their booking schedules (no overbooking), and they have an atmosphere that doesn't seem so packed and busy! Today, I went in during lunch time, and I must say, that is the sweet spot. They have awesome online booking, so I opted for that as soon as I could this morning! By 10am, I was confirmed for my lunch time appointment. When I walked in, I was greeted and was told they were expected me :) So nice when a salon knows you're arriving! I chose my colors and had a seat. I was offered wine or juice, but I kindly declined since I was slurping on some coffee (lunch time nail appointment means I still need energy for the rest of the day). Because the place wasn't packed, as it usually has been in the past, I could dry my nails in peace and even read parts of my book while my toes were being done. Toward the end of the appointment, I was about to fall asleep - - I was SO RELAXED, but it was only the afternoon, and I had to opt for some more coffee afterwards, but it was totally worth it. read more

I left a review before but forgot to mention that I do work for the company so I know first hand how they company is being ran and besides I'm going to give a 5 star to many business that has bad customer service skills but this establishment is just the opposite of what we're use to meaning that the manager really try and make everyone who comes to her shop feel like they matter. The spa is clean and spacious. It doesn't seem to get too busy because during my last 3 visits (Friday afternoon and two separate Saturdays) there was no wait. That's always a plus. I've only gotten pedi's here and it's a pretty average service. But at $50 for a gel pedicure, it's a tad more expensive than my regular shop. Had to update my review because a couple of weeks ago, I got a facial from Brittany and it was awesome. It had been over a year and though I am a dedicated DIY cleanser/toner/masque gal, it just does not have the same benefit. Plus it is sooo relaxing! To have someone slather lotions and potions on you, whilst improving your glow and thereby your disposition, is just heaven to me. Brittany asked what kind of results I wanted before we even started. I told her I wanted clean and glowing skin. The facial room is well decorated, there's a cabinet for your clothes and the standard terry stretchy Velcro closure gown. No need to be concerned about your belongings, you're in the same room with them. Would you like a glass of wine before we start? Why yes! Brittany has a very gentle touch and is equally gentle with the process. I'm sure you've all had the gal who bangs and clangs everything around. Not Brittany. You've also had the gal who gives the chemical breakdown of every product application and then tells you the price, so the experience becomes more of a sales pitch than a relaxation. Again, not Brittany. After cleansing, she turned on the special light to assess my skin. I have to borrow from Farrah A that as a teenager I was going for the "leather handbag look" and have a good amount of sun damage. Brittany asked if I'd had microdermabrasion and I have, told her I did not like it, thought it was too rough for my skin. She suggested a moisturizing vitamin C treatment and away we went. A light rotary brush was used, also the bacteria remover thingy and there was never any burning or discomfort. An hour later, I came out with dew kissed skin that glowed even more on day 2. Yes she did extractions. too (ok maybe a little necessary discomfort there). I was most impressed with the little touches, like the soft spray of lavender something at the end and a light lip balm smudged on my mouth. Everything smelled heavenly and there was no hard sell ever to buy product. Very professional and luxurious. Treat yourself. The facial was $110 and worth every cent. I promised myself I would have one every quarter. Check back for progress. I'll keep coming back to Tee for my hair cut, Victor for the color and Brittany for a facial. Oh and the massage pedicure chairs are amazing! read more

Yuck. Facility is unimpressive, but that was the least of my worries. My friend arrived and let them know she was waiting for me to arrive. They insisted she start without me. She refused and they repeatedly told her to call me to find out my ETA (keep in mind- I was *literally* 7 minutes behind her). After speaking to me they continued to pressure her to start. Upon my arrival, I sat down and chose my colors. I informed them I'd like a manicure and polish change. They asked me 4 more times if I'd like a pedicure instead. By the 3rd time they asked, I was irritated and in a firm tone informed them "I do not want a pedicure", to which they quietly talked amongst themselves and proceeded to ask me AGAIN. Luckily, a new attendant arrived from her break and took care of me. She was very nice but I asked for tips and she gave me full acrylic and insisted she couldn't make them shorter (a lie as I have since fixed them) so I had to stumble around with exaggeratedly long fake nails. On 12/29, I had my first microblading appt with Tee and I couldn't be happier with the experience and results! Before the appt, Tee texted me the aftercare instructions so I could look look it over in case I had qualms. At the appt, she walked me through each step and explained why she was doing it. First she mapped out my eyebrow shape and did some corrections (never knew I had one eyebrow naturally higher than the other til she pointed it out lol!) and then put the numbing cream. From start to finish, it took about 2hrs & well worth the time & investment! Tee is extremely thorough, patient and her attention to detail is incredible. She took her time to make sure my brows were perfect. Even after she showed me the results and I was super thrilled with them, she went back in to make them look even better. It took about 4 weeks for the "final" results to come through and let me tell you, as happy as I was with how they looked, I felt like I still needed a touch up. During the healing process, you're to expect some pigment loss. So I booked my second appt with Tee this week & just like the first appt, she performed her magic and gave me a new aftercare routine to follow so that I retain more pigment this go around. Conclusion: I am so HAPPY I don't have to fuss with my eyebrows at all in the mornings. I feel like they give me a naturally soft and groomed look without looking over the top (think Instagram brows). A definite improvement over my God given brows & I find I wear less makeup because of them! Tee's customer service skills are beyond compare. Not only is she sweet, she even told me to text her if I have any questions. Who else does that?! :-) and most importantly, Tee is an artist! She takes great personal pride In her work so if you are interested in getting your brows microbladed then I highly recommend you book an appt with her ASAP! read more

This place is really close to my job. I'd gone twice and had two different nail techs do my nails. I prefer to have colored powder on my nails. The first time, they'd done a mediocre job. The nails were all different lengths and the shape of the nails were inconsistent. The second time I went, I had a male do my nails. He drilled most of my cuticles on most of my nails and the shapes of my nails were oblong and not square. And the kicker, each time they charged me close to $50. I gave them 2 stars because they have decent-ish customer service and they text you a reminder of your upcoming appointment. read more

I'm never one to write negative reviews but I feel like I have to say something about this place and how awful my last experience was that lead me to write this review . First off let me start off by saying that I had been a loyal customer of Midtown nails for Over 3 years and always recommend this place because I like to support a local business. The reason I will not be returning is because Nancy the owner is so incredibly rude and unprofessional!! I went in last Friday to get full set and signature pedicure. Within 2 days the nails started popping off and breaking I called the next day and she said she would fix it but I told her that all of them were falling off and that the set was not done properly and that i needed her to redo them or give me a refund for the full set that was 75 plus tip. She said she would redo them and to come back. When I went back she said she couldn't do them because she was busy with other customers even though I called and let her know I was coming and needed them redone and that I couldn't wait anymore because my nails should've been done right since the beginning and how I didn't have time to come back another time and to just give me my refund and I would just take my business else where. When I asked for my refund she started trying to shut me up and started trying to get super rude and hostile towards me. I told her to please just give me my refund and she started yelling at me saying she didn't have the cash and that she would sent it to me later. At this point I'm just frustrated because I don't want to continue to waste my time or ever come back to such an unprofessional business. She then proceeded to get cash that she claimed she didn't have it and threw the money in my face infront of other customers! I was so horrified and embarrassed by Nancy the owner behavior since like I mentioned before that I had been a loyal customer for over 3 years . I will never be returning to this place and I recommend if you want good quality sets to go else where because this is NOT the first time I have had issues with my sets not being done properly!! After doing my research I found that a lot of the products they use are expired that's why the nails pop off!! It's SCAM so you continue to go back and fix them and waste more money and time!! I gave midtown nails a chance because they're conveniently located, and I'm new to town. I have been getting dip powder/SNS on my nails consistently for the past year - so I know what a good manicure should be. As previous comments had mentioned, the polish came out lumpy. This is not due to the dip powder; the final product should be smooth and glossy. Then, within a week, my pinky nail polish completely came off in one chunk. This is not normal. I went back in to get a touch up. Touch up was fine, but make sure you call ahead if you don't want to wait. Then a couple days after the touch up, less than a week and a half, another nail came off. At this point, it was clear this wasn't a quality manicure and the dip powder had not been properly applied. Dip manicures should easily last 3+ weeks! I always have to get them re-done because my nails have grown out too long, not because they have chipped or fallen off. The shoulder massage was nice (and an additional charge), and they do offer drinks. I would think a regular mani/pedi would be fine here, but if you're looking for quality, long lasting nails services, this isn't the place. read more

I LOVE TIMMIE!!!!!! I had a really bad experience at Parkview nails, and my nails were a disgrace. I made an appointment here based on reviews and was set up with Timmie. She looked at my nails and agreed that they were a sh***y mess! She had me soak, removed the mess and started the masterpiece. I have to say this is the first time someone has actually thinned them as nicely as she does; you can't really even tell that I have acrylic on my nails. (I only do acrylic overlay on my own nails). She did just a beautiful job on my French manicure and was a very sweet and lovely lady. Although we had to soak off the old acrylic, the entire experience was still a rather reasonable short amount of time. I miss my regular nail girl; but until and if she even returns to work from medical leave, I am definitely coming here to see Timmie. For all the hard work needed on my nails, I paid $52 with the Yelp deal which I thought was definitely well worth it. I can't wait to see Timmie again for my refill; I think I will HAVE to get a pedicure too! read more

I would say 3.5, not 4. First, the ladies are VERY sweet and kind. That is a large factor in my 3.5 rating. But two things really shocked me. My pedicure was great. While my feet were being done, another tech came over to do my nails. I asked for a dip manicure (I find it lasts loads longer than gel without the UV light exposure). However, she only replaced my dip with a new color - she didn't manicure my nails at all. No cuticle trim, no oil, no massage. Just a dip color replacement. Then, I was charged $80 for both. That's the most I've ever paid, and I am from Washington DC. And considering I didn't get my nails manicured, I thought it was a bit steep. Overall, if I'm in a bind, I will go back. At first I liked this place. It's clean and people working were nice. But then they kept asking what kind of pedicure I wanted even after I said was the classic. Then they asked if I wanted longer massage. I felt little ambushed to be honest. With my manicure I didn't really love them. I asked for a ombre color and I to add tip nails since my nails were so short. The work ended up being thick and large nails even tho I asking so nice to skinnier looking nails. It looks so fake. I don't mind spending all that money with my nails as long it's good but when I don't like the result it makes my so upset. Also, every time I use my hand to fix my hair, a hair comes out with the nails since they didn't finished/file too good on sides.
