We've been coming to the Merc for 6 years every time we see out in PC and now we have a place in Hideout. John is a great host and cares about his customers. Great consistent menu with a few rotating/new dishes (ie peach accents during season). Oyster selection is strong. Tons of Gluten Free options. All food from scratch is except the GF Chick Chacks which we are addicted to for my celiac daughter. Most ingredients are from within 5 miles it seems (local meats, cheeses, fruit, produce, herbs, etc). Pretty consistent server staff. Pricing has certainly increased like everywhere else, but we still feel it is fair. At the risk of driving too much demand, I strongly recommend. read more

How this place has a 4.2-star rating is beyond me. Personally, I'd give it a 3 at best. The food was just okay--nothing stood out or made me want to come back. I had pasta, and it was completely bland. My husband said his fish was good, and the fondue was decent. But the dessert? It tasted like it came straight from a store shelf--not made in-house at all. My wife and I went here for our anniversary. Overall, it was okay. The ambiance is nice, and the service was friendly. My biggest issue is the prices. The appetizer was $17 for an apple and some cubes of bread. I got the special, ribeye Bolognese over pasta. I must admit, it was good. The steak was cooked beautifully, and the flavor was good. But for just under $40 for this plate, I would have liked it to at least fill the bottom of the bowl. I've never quite understood the fine dining experience of high prices and small portions. If I'm going to pay over $100 for a meal, I want it to blow me away. Sadly, I wasn't blown away. If the prices were half as much, I would have loved it and would definitely return. But for these prices, there are places within Heber Valley that I'd prefer to go to in the future. It was a fun, cute place, and nothing was technically wrong with the food. This place is great. Food was so amazing and the patio was incredible. We had a party of 9 with 2 older children and they were very accommodating. However if I am comparing this place to other restaurants around the country with similar pricing they have a long way to go with service. Pre bussing almost non nonexistent and pre setting for share plates and dessert did not happen. Super nice server but food knowledge needs a boost. Have been here a few times and always happy but much room for improvement in my opinion as a restaurant professional so I am pretty critical. I hope they keep at it. Great place. read more

I came here for a wedding reception about five years ago. Completely loved everything about my experience at Midway Mercantile. Location: Amazing. Atmosphere: Inviting and promising. Servers: Usually wonderful, but tonight our server had a massive bad attitude! I am not a hard customer, having worked in kitchens and been a server myself for many years, I think I'm fairly leniant and patient. Put this experience taught me a serious lesson. The scallop "special appetizer" was fairly revolting. Eight micro tiny scallops and a huge wad of sopping wet cheesy bread (?) in the middle of a tiny plate. Yuck. We ordered shepherd's pie, made with utah lamb. I was seriously excited. I make this at home all the time, ever since we went to Ireland. I was very wrong to be excited. I've eaten plain toast with more moisture than this shepherd's pie, and to top things off half of my portion was burnt. When I said something to our server, she just flicked her hip at me and said, "yeah, happens". Really? Midway Mercantile has everything that makes a mediocre restaurant glamorous, special and unforgettable, except for the food. Maybe they need a new chef, or they need to change the menu to a much more simple fare? Midway Mercantile could be amazing and definitely pull in five star reviews over and over, if they paid attention to the details a little bit better. Very disappointing. We won't be back. read more

We came to Midway for our babymoon and Midway Mercantile was by far the best dinner we had during our whole stay. We made a reservation and were seated right away. We both picked a mocktail. I really enjoyed my mule mocktail. My husband didn't love his (I can't remember the name of it. It was similar to an old fashioned type cocktail). We had DJ as our waiter and he was fantastic. He was full of suggestions and personality. We ordered the raclette as an appetizer. It was pretty good but ours only came with bread and apples. On the menu it said it also included veggies so I feel it was lacking a bit in that regard. The rest of our food experience made up for it, though! I had the Parmesan crusted pork tenderloin with penne pasta and whoa, it was SO GOOD. It was the most tender pork tenderloin I've ever had. It just melts in your mouth. The pasta and sauces were also very good. I forgot until last minute to request no capers and they were able to accommodate my request. My husband ordered the red snapper. He said it had great flavors, well cooked and overall some of the best snapper he's had in a long time. We will for sure be back because we were too full to try their dessert but everything on the menu looked delicious. First of all, let me say that I am local and I love their food. It really is good. I've had many things on the menu and never been disappointed by flavor. Regretfully tonight was the third time in 4 months that I have ordered takeout, arrived home and realized that they had left out a substantial amount of the order. Shame on me, knowing that this has happened to me in the past here and for not fully checking the order however, they were busy and for me to stand at their tiny hostess stand and open each box would've been, quite frankly, rude. Mistakes happen, however when I called to ask if they had the rest of my order there was no apology. Just 'OK come on back.' Which I did, however, I had already driven 15 minutes each way the first time and now was 15 minutes each way again, and fought the dinner parking situation which basically means you park a few blocks away, so i spent over an hour driving then walking to get my takeout (that was supposed to save me time from cooking dinner.) In the meantime, the food that we picked up first was cold and my daughter who was waiting for her entree (which was in the missing part of the order) had to leave, so in the end didn't get her dinner. At pick up there was no apology, and even some questions about how many of an item we ordered (we were correct in the end.) We have been treated with this dismissive, too bad, attitude in the past when they have screwed up orders and it is really disappointing. To boot the medium burger was definitively rare, cold to the touch pink in center. I'm super disappointed because they do have good food, but I hate feeling this way about the service and continuing to support somebody that treats their customers so poorly. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. The wait was a little long, and our table felt really dark (would have loved better lighting like small spotlights to brighten up the pretty larger lights). That being said, the food was all excellent and our waiter was great as well. The biggest surprise was how much we loved the weird fries! They look like thick potato chips but have the perfect fry texture, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. We've never had fries like these before and would come back just for these! I was very much looking forward to our dinner - a combined birthday dinner for three of us and we haven't celebrated together for years. Unfortunately the experienced failed to live up to expectations. Service was pleasant but poor: Wine delivered and poured before cocktails arrived; Questions about the menu were hard to get answers to; Had to ask twice to get both starters; When the mains arrived the side of fries was missing and once again we had to ask. Meal quality was mediocre. Wagyu steak was overcooked - ordered rare and it wasn't even pink, medium plus I'd say. Sides were tasty but cool. The creme brûlée was very tasty but it had not been freshly prepared. Quality of ingredients is very good however the end result was sadly lacking. I was looking forward to raw oysters, so when I ordered the "west coast" option, I found the taste overwhelming like seawater, and not in a good way. Service was excellent and speedy. Rosemary Gimlet was delighted. Grains and greens salad was also excellent. Good balance of grains and greens, and giat cheese was creamy and flavorful. Very nice ambiance there. They do such a good job of staying true to local farm-to-table ingredients supporting locals and farmers ! Twice now we have had poor experiences with the host/hostess. The first time was rudeness from a frustrated hostess on a busy evening, and we have stayed away for several years. It is pretty easy to go to Park City for better service quality, or stick with the Back 40 Ranch House Grill with exceptional service (the one place in Heber that is ALWAYS on their game). Recently we gave Midway Mercantile another shot. We arrived after the busy time and only 2 or 3 tables were occupied. The host placed us at a two top right against kitchen and staff station, which was cramped and very noisey with the staff yelling and laughing with no respect for customers. Meanwhile the other larger tables went unoccupied. Our server was great, and our food and beverages were pretty good. I should have demanded a different table, but the host should also know better, in spite of being young. Train him up a little bit! This should have been a 4-star review. read more

Stopped by mid afternoon before the Heber Valley Train. We were 4 adults and 3 little kids. The hostess was very kind to us even though she couldn't find our reservation in her system (luckily they had a table available either way). She also took time to find paper and pens for the kids to draw. The food was really good. My husband had the burger (the fries were phenomenal). My friend and I both had the trout which was strongly recommended by our waitress. It was really tasty! My other friend had the fish tacos and loved them as well. My family of 9 and I went to this place after snow tubing, and it was an amazing experience. The staff was very welcoming when we first entered the restaurant and we were greeted by a man we believe may be the owner or manager. Our waiter was excellent, she was very accommodating, attentive and nice. We started off with the hot honey chicken pizza, calamari, and raw oysters and all were great! The hot honey chicken pizza was excellent and very flavorful. For main dishes we ordered the sea bass, ravioli (pasta of the day), fish tacos, lamb chop dish and others. The ravioli was excellent, very flavorful and fresh tasting. My family and I loved everything about this restaurant. The owner/manager came by to check on us mid meal and we greatly appreciated it. The chef is from New Orleans and so are my family and I so that was something extra special to us. From the service, ambience, alcoholic drinks, food and experience was amazing and I will be sure to be back whenever I am back in town! read more

It's that time of year when you have to get up into the canyons to see the fall colors. Took the family out for a foliage drive and hike and ended up in Midway and just had to try Midway Mercantile for dinner. What a great little family outing or date night. Our server, Justin, was one of the best servers we have had in a very long time, and this includes some of the finest restaurants in Utah. He was engaging, attentive, knew the menu and was willing to offer suggestions and directions. And even had fun playing along with the family. We started dinner off with a couple of appetizers. Hearth Roasted Bacon Wrapped Dates/$14 With bleu cheese mousse, sweet balsamic drizzle, and the light crunch of toasted hazelnut. I've had these at other restaurants and have always enjoyed them. There are only 6 of these and as a party of five I had to pull the, I'm paying card, in order to get the extra bacon wrapped date. And they are awesome. 5/5 M.M. Raclette Cheese Fondue/$17 Traditional Swiss cheese blend, with bread and fresh veggies for dipping. How can you go wrong here, the cheese blend was very flavorful and blended well with the bread and veggies. I wish they would have had a few more options of vegetables as there were only peppers, apples and bread. 4/5 For entrees we ordered the following: Stone Hearth Caesar/$18 Quick charred in the blazing oven, with house-made Caesar dressing and warm, house-made croutons. Small/$12 added chicken for an additional $4. Daughter said it was really good. 5/5 Cheeseburger and Fries/$16 Midway's Van Wagoner ground beef, topped with caramelized onion confit, spicy sriracha aioli and your choice of Heber Valley Artisan Fuego Verde cheese or classic cheddar. Son thought it was just okay, the bun fell apart leaking everything everywhere and we asked them to add bacon, but they forgot. The patty was big and almost overwhelming. I couldn't really taste the sriracha with the bite that I took, it was all beef. It was a good burger, not great. 4/5 Utah Lamb Shepherds Pie/$21 Hearty and soul-satisfying, with hints of curry and rosemary. Daughter number 2 ordered this and really enjoyed it. She can be picky and finished the whole thing, so I would give this a thumbs up. 5/5 Parmigiano-Crusted Pork Tenderloin/$27 Served on a bed of penne tossed with bacon, onions, tomatoes, capers and balsamic. Topped with sumptuous spinach aioli. My wife ordered this and it stole the show, it was the best thing we ordered. So good and would highly recommend. The bacon, onions and spinach aioli on the penne noodles was very good and my wife loves pork tenderloin. 6/5 it was that good. I ordered the Beef Tenderloin Filet Mignon/$47 7 oz. filet with luxuriant mushroom reduction and potato-yam gratin layered with kale. The Tenderloin was cooked to perfection, medium-rare. The mushroom reduction was excellent, not overpowering allowing you to still taste the steak while adding a nice touch of flavor and mushrooms. The Potato-yam gratin with kale was just okay but did not distract. And they added brussel sprouts that were charred nicely, I usually expect a sweet contrast, but these were all savory and really good. 5/5 All in all we loved the Midway Mercantile, the kids even commented on how good it was and how friendly our server Justin was. Well done and a fun destination restaurant while seeing the fall leaves and colors. read more

Midway Mercantile advertises in its menu that it has a significant gluten free offering. However, when you look at the menu and try and order an item with a GF or GFO tag the gluten free options are very limited. Most restaurants that offer gluten free options have things like GF buns, pasta and if serving pizza GF crust. MM does not have any of these things, so you get a really marginal entree. I ordered a pork tenderloin dish that had a penne pasta side. However, they do not have GF penne, so I got it with mashed potatoes. The dish was just a pile of sauce over pork tenderloin with sloppy mashed potatoes. The dish tasted Ok but if you looked at it it was just a sloppy looking mess for $30. Be aware if you go to MM that GF offerings here come with a lot of caveats. Fortunately, the service staff was friendly and prompt with the meals. Without that I would have rated this restaurant 1-2 stars. read more

I went here for a meal during a bachelorette weekend and this place did not disappoint. When you first walk in it's a bit moody and cozy, which we really liked. The menu was versatile and able to serve our several dietary restrictions just find.
