I brought my precious, 5 year old rescue Schnoodle, Bullet, to Canine Choppers for the first time last week @11:00 a m. . I told them I wanted a puppy cut with Schnauzer face and fluffy tail. The last time he was groomed was just before I moved to the Beverly area about 10 weeks ago. I told them I brushed Bullet every night, he had some matting and those crusties around his eyes. While waiting to pick him up, I could hear Bullet whining terribly. I questioned it, and was told he was just a bit anxious because it was his first grooming there. A groomer brought a little black dog out, and I thought, "Aw, cute dog but really skinny." I didn't know it was my Bullet, until he jumped up on my lap. I was horrified, day the least. When I asked what happened, I was to,d he was matted all over, he didn't like being cut, and they had to shave him!!! The groomer said his face fur came off in one piece as she shaved him. What the hell. I'm attaching "before and after" pictures of Bullet so you can understand why I've given such a poor rating and why I will NEVER bring Bullet anywhere near that place again. Not only does he look like a hairless cat, my sweet, cuddly baby who loves people and other dogs, is now skittish and scratches himself almost non-stop. read more

I have been coming here for the past 2 years, and this place has ALWAYS been a hit or miss for me. Each time I came in and told them what I wanted, some days they are right on it and others it's not at all what I've asked for and I chose not to make a big deal of it because it's fur, it'll grow back. Though, this time I sent in my father to take in my dog for his appointment and I texted him exactly what photo to show them, along with a text that specified exactly how I wanted my dogs haircut. (mind you, I went over this plenty of times with my father so he wouldn't get it wrong to avoid this from happening, english isn't his first language) . I didn't at all get what I asked for, yet again. I went to the shop and told them and they are telling me that the picture was seen but are not clarifying whether or not they saw the message (which was hard to miss considering it was attached to the bottom of the picture) I asked to speak to the person who spoke to my father and they refused to come out and speak to me. I asked her point blank , "did she see the message or not?" because the message clearly states TWICE not to touch his body hair , at minimum a trim, and Gayle didn't respond with a yes or no. So clearly she doesn't care what I have to say and/or how I feel very disappointed and was making it seem like it was my fault that I did do more to clarify this to them. At top of that, they're basically accusing my father of being a liar. Maybe the message was seen and they forgot but there should've been more accountability on their end. Also, my dog has a CUT from how short they went, which clearly wouldn't have happened had they not gone that short. In the screenshot, I also mention to cut his nails (this is not included in their services and it's something you have to ask for) I know this because anytime I forget to mention to cut his nails they don't do it. My dog's nails WERE cut this time because it states it in the message and I made no mention of it to my father so therefore it means it was read.. I've been told from many people to go to another groomer but because I kept giving chances I had to learn the hard way. Safe to say I will not return. read more

My dogs are always super excited to go get their haircuts. They do a great job and the cost is reasonable.

There attitude and their communication skills . They don't speak when you come in the door. They don't let you know if they go up in price and just expect you to pay it without any communication, very nasty attitude and unfriendly . If she's overworked, it shows in her cutting skills. my fur baby had been going to them for quite some time so for them to treat me like I just started was very disheartening. The owner is the nasty one when she went up in price. She told me she should have been charging me more. My thoughts are if that's what I have to pay. That's what I have to pay but you went up three times till you got what you wanted, not to mention, I always tipped them. She needs to stop doing dogs. read more

This merchant is absolutely mean. As my dog aged and began to decline, I agreed that as soon as he was groomed, I would pick him up for his comfort. They allowed me to continue to make the appointment, and when I brought him in, Gail ( I think the owner) told me she would not be grooming or bathing him because her exact words were, "your dog is senile and miserable and if you want him clean, you need to bathe him yourself," despite one of the workers saying she could give him a quick bath. Gail wouldn't let her. It's already sad when a dog ages so there was no need for her to be heartless. We had been going here for years! She should not have allowed us to make the appointment in the 1st place if she knew these were her feelings. It was a waste of everyone's time and unnecessarily caused ill feelings. read more

My dog goes there monthly and they do a great job. He always come home smelling fresh and sweet. The staff is always friendly and the place is clean and doesn't smell. I would highly recommend this business. read more

For the third grooming in a row, after emphatically requesting my Goldendoodle's face not be shaved like a "poodle", wanted a round face-grew coat out to achieve this. She is completely shaped to look like a poodle. Never again. DONOT recommend. It's like they purposely went against my request & did the opposite. Not even one star. read more

The owner is rude as hell. I've come here a few times with my dogs. They did a good job on my border collie. I set up a time to bring in my 2 German shepherds. I had planned it to bring in both on the same day even though it meant waiting longer for an appt which was fine. 2 days before my appt they called to rearrange my appt because of a schedule conflict. I have limited availability in my own schedule due to work. They wanted to split up my dogs into separate days the following week which didn't work for me. The owner completely hung up on me rather than working with me on something that was THEIR mistake. I had to call back because I was in complete shock at their rudeness and poor customer service. Let me start off by saying that my dog has never had a problem whenever I bath him at home. Occasional shakes but no problems with anxiety or any issues trying to get him in the bath. Due to the great reviews, I decided to take my pup here. The first time, the cut seemed fine so I decided to take him again. My pup started shaking the minute I wanted to bring him in. Now, he shakes when he goes to the vet but I have never seen him this nervous. As I await for the staff, I could hear someone in the back yelling at the dog to stop and everyone that day seemed so disorganized. Now, when I try to bath my dog at home, he gets extremely nervous, goes to a corner and I cannot get him to stop shaking. During his bath he is shaking uncontrollably, looks terrified but now he just stands still and hardly moves. I do not know what this place does to the dogs aside from yelling at them but whatever they did, they have traumatized my dog's baths. read more

I was looking for a new dog groomer on Yelp and this place showed up on my feed. Good reviews, close to home, friendly when I called for an appt. I have been here twice now to get Sammie groomed. They treat the dogs like they are their own - which makes me feel good about leaving her. They do such a great job with my little terrier - and her haircut and nails look so awesome when they finish. Plus, she smells good! Granted, she runs right into the water and mud after :) Prices seem reasonable to me. I highly recommend. The place is cute and clean and the workers are super friendly. read more

Just an update. We have taken our goofy Pom back several times for bath and trim and each time she looks cuter and cuter, if that's possible. Karen and the ladies, are so kind to our little rescue dog that she is getting more comfortable than I ever thought she would be. She still would rather be rolling in the dirt than getting a bath yet when she comes home, she is rather careful about keeping clean. I am sure she feels better and, while she may not like the bath, she loves the result, as do we. Such a caring group of people who obviously love dogs and love their jobs. My dogs are super anxious and struggle with nail trims, but the lady at Midwest Canine Choppers did an awesome job making them feel right at home. My 90lb dog usually struggles and tries to get away and when we went there he just laid on his back while she clipped his nails. Happy that they offer walk-ins for trims as well. Been taking my shepard here for two years now, she gets a bath, a trim , and nail cut. They do an awesome job, she's always nice and fluffy and smells very fresh , this is also the only place that she will let cut her nails. Only downside is, takes a fews phone calls to get an answer for an appointment, so i just recommend making a follow up appointment when you pick up your pup :) read more

Came here after a recommendation from family. They asked a lot about the temperament of my dog when I said that he needed his nails clipped. He isn't the easiest dog to work on when clipping his nails and I was a little nervous that they would turn him down because of his breed (staffordshire terrier). They simply stated that they would try their best but wouldn't use extreme force, which was great to hear because that is how he became so nervous with nail clipping in the first place. I was pleasantly surprised when I picked him up to see they got all his nails. Overall they seem very well educated in what they are doing. I love that it is a small business and my dog was happy when leaving and that is all that matters. It's also way cheaper than any petco or petsmart which is also a huge bonus. read more

Miss Nelly was not due for a cut yet, but after a long Chicago winter and an afternoon in the yard she had burrs all over her face. Not a bad dog groomer. Didn't know how to cut a West Highland White terrier in it's traditional cut but nonetheless we liked to job they did and were repeat customers. Although the 'cut' given our JackRussell/Poodle mix was terrific...we were distressed to experience a rather surly staff who, when we dropped off our Jack-A-Poo and our chihuahua and told the groomer they could be kenneled together, upon arriving to pick them up 4.5 hours later - were given our chihuahua and a large boxer on a lead! Expressing concern at this error we were told 'oh it is just an honest mistake'. When we inquired as to whether the "honest mistake" lead to our chihuahua being kenneled with the boxer, we were informed that we were rude and abusive and would need to find another groomer! Our Jack-A-Poo and chihuahua have been clients before...but rest assured...we will never bring our puppies back. Our recommendation is - LOCATE ANOTHER GROOMER! read more

Love, love, love they job they do. Been going there for 3+ years. Always friendly and do a great job on my dog. However, a note to the owner. Please invest in a lap top or computer to keep track of me and my previous visits. Every time I call I have to re-explain who I am, who my dog is and what I want done. They hand write a card every time but those are not kept for the next time. It would be nice to just call - give a name and have them ask do you want same as last time. That would be a little more personal touch. How about a data base w picture of the dog, and list of what they wanted done last time. Overall. A. A+ if they did that. Will always go back.. read more

This place is the absolute best! My dog is "energetic" and extremely stubborn. Ok, he's a typical terrier. After spending months trying every possible way to trim his nails with out dislocating his legs, I gave up. My son brought him in and they trimmed his nails with out incident. He came home with a cute little bandana which he refused to let me take off until was completely ratty. About a month later I sent him back for a bath, ears, another trim etc. Very reasonable. (And he got a new scarf) I can't recommend them enough. I am unharmed and not frustrated. My dog is not angry with me and running under the bed. Worth every cent :) read more
