I guess it's fine in comparison to other ranges as far as prices go. $20 normally and $10 on Friday. It was my first time shooting today and they didn't ask me if I ever shot before. They just let me go, I thought this was strange. The process was easy even for a first timer. I came during half price Friday with my dad. They charge you $2 for ear muffs, just bring headphones and plug your ears. Also, I asked for the cheapest targets and he gave me four at 50 cents each while others were marked at 15 cents. I felt that this was an underhanded move. Overall, since there aren't many places to go shoot in Chicagoland, I recommend coming here on Friday ONLY. Also, pick up your ammo at Walmart beforehand. My ammo was $14.50 at Walmart and here their entry level ammo was $25 and change. read more

Absolutely and consistently the worst consumer experience with this gun & range retailer. Went to renew my CCL in Feb 2020 with instructor Paul Bervid claiming he was a state prosecutor and knows all the rules of engagement. When asked if CCL and/or FOID under pending status allowed gun owners to carry under state law, he said no. (430 ILCS 66/70) said otherwise. Second, took my son in law (19 y.o.) and his friend to the range and they refused their entry because they are not 21 y.o. and need a FOID card - EVEN under my supervision. We are suspecting racial bias and will look into this and may file legal action for discrimination. NEVER going back to this ill informed and discriminatory retailer. read more

Terrible customer service. Went in and the staff just ignore you or give you the side eye as if saying "how dare you come in to this store". When I was able to finally ask someone to help me they acted annoyed like I was bothering them. Staff there aren't helpful at all when it comes to questions on product as well. This review is in two parts and focuses on customer service: My first experience at Midwest was 15 years ago after someone broke into my home in the middle of the day. The police took 40 mins to arrive at my home (even though the station was 3 blocks away). I remember thinking what if my wife and two pre-school daughters had been home alone? I was so angered I registered for a Firearms Owners Identification Card and went to Midwest to buy a gun for my family's protection. I don't remember the employee's name who served me but he spent 20 minutes educating me of the Illinois gun laws and the liabilities of owning (and firing) a gun within the Chicago city limits. Evidently he knew I was there out of anger and made sure I was making a sober and clear decision before making a purchase. I left the store without making a purchase but was always thankful that he was more concerned about me making a good decision than making a sale. Speed up to day... After my daughters left for college I decided to purchase a handgun for home defense and conceal & carry because I work the night shift and my wife is now home alone while I"m at work. I'd already done a lot of research and spoken with a few gun owners about what gun I wanted. The store has a pretty decent selection of handguns both new and used and most of the popular models were available. Even though this was my first purchase when I arrived at the store I knew what I wanted to buy. Customer service was spot on and my wait was fairly short even though the store was fairly busy. The salesman was extremely helpful insuring I was familiar with the gun's operation and processed my sale and paperwork quickly. Upon returning to pick up my firearm (36 hour wait) the staff member attending me was helpful and reviewed my purchase insuring that everything was in order before checking me out. I haven't tried out the range but they offer free range time with the purchase of a firearm which I thought was a nice bonus. read more

I have used the range at this location, I have done some shopping, and I have used them for a transfer from an out-of-state dealer. The range is small and a little dated, but it works. Range fees are a little on the pricey side. They have a decent selection of guns and their prices are reasonable. I found the staff to be very helpful and patient. I recently purchased and transferred a gun to this location from an out-of-state website and this process was handled very well and very smoothly. They do charge a high price to do transfers at $75, but if you find an amazing deal on a gun you will still save $ over trying to buy is locally. They do a nice job on communication and service. Overall, this is a nice shop and I recommend them. read more

Beware if you're not a white person...I could not believe the racism I witnessed multiple times just standing in this store for less than 30min. I went to their store to purchase quite a few items and was so disgusted with their staff that I couldn't stand the thought of spending my money there. A few weekends ago, I saw the caucasian middle aged female cashier keep checking out everyone but an African American couple that was standing there patiently. Finally, they told her they have been waiting a while and she just told them these other people called in earlier....like that should matter. What a terrible excuse. She could've just apologized. Then, not even a minute later, I hear the very tall older Caucasian sales guy start yelling at a young Hispanic couple saying "don't bullshit me, I'm not showing you anything" he even told them they were not allowed to even ask a question without a FOID. The young lady actually gave him her CCW card and he yelled even louder that only she was allowed to ask questions and could not ask her husband for help. This was so rude and unnecessary. The husband asked him to control his tone and corrected him and explained he can ask whatever he wants, especially since he wants his wife safe, but the sales guy was frazzled and honestly looked like a crazy man about to "shoot first" and think later. The couple just left because I think they feared the same. So disgusted with this place. The guys on the gun range downstairs are so awesome though and are literally the only reason this place gets a star at all, which is a shame because sales upstairs should be important to them. The range is a little dingy. At the beginning, I'd only been to a few ranges, so I figured I didn't have a good base of experience to judge. I've been to a lot more since and can confirm, yes, it's old and dingy. But I don't need a luxurious space in which to shoot, and the upstairs store makes up any shortcomings. They've got a friendly staff and a huge selection of guns to rent, which is a great way to determine the best weapon to purchase. It was like trying on clothes. Over multiple sessions, I tested almost 10 different 9mm's and found the one that best fit my hand (and best found the target) read more

The service was sub-Par! I'm disappointed in the way the staff at the ammunition counter handled my request to purchase ammo. Due to the shortage of ammo, I can't let the ammo "walk out the door" I have to keep ammo for the range use. I found that to be odd/strange and the way it was presented to me was distasteful! Very knowledgeable staff, friendly and will answer all your questions when purchasing a firearm there. I have purchased two pistols from these guys. Their prices are also very competitive. I took my CCL class there and it was a pleasant experience. So why only 3 stars? To be blunt, the shooting range needs to be updated. It's pretty run down. They also have some strange rules there, such as no metal jacketed ammo is allowed. The one rule that bothers me the most is no shooting at a target any closer than 30ft. Most self defense shootings happen well inside 15ft, so that's really what you wanna practice in my opinion. Almost forgot, they do give you a free pass for the range when you buy a firearm, that's how I ended up using the range. read more

I gave 3 stars because I've barely come here. This was the first place I've been shooting and bought my first gun about 5yrs ago. I bought another gun recently and the sales man suggested it for me and it was an awesome suggestion the only thing I didn't like was the fact they told me I couldn't pick my gun up until 2/29 6:20pm and after. Why tell me 6:20pm and you people close on Saturday's at 6pm it's annoying I was exited to get my new purchase and had to wait yet another day to get it. Definitely a con on their part. read more

I have made the mistake of going to Midwest Guns twice, first time three years ago and then again recently, because I had forgotten the name of the range where I had such an unpleasant experience years before and it was worse than I remembered. I have been to a lot of gun ranges around the country and most of the the ones in the greater Chicago area and this was the worst. There are several good and excellent ranges in the area and there is no reason to ever go here. The biggest issue is the staff/owners and their attitude towards customers. I have seen it all over the years, but these guys are without a doubt the worst. I cannot imagine how many first or second timers they have chased away from shooting and far whose how many firearms owners they have discouraged from getting important practice. I have been around ranges/gun stores for a long time and that intimidating feeling most people in those environments have when they are just getting into firearm's has long such passed for me; but man if they did not try to bring it back. I have rarely be treated with so much disrespect. Their rules are nuts and NOT listed on their website so you only read them after you have gone out of your way to drive drive there. They have the standard rules like no rapid fire, no drawing from a holster and the like that are common on indoor ranges. But they also have a bunch extras around things like shooting targets less than 7 yards (yards not feet) away, no touching of cell phones and the like. All of which really serve no safety value and at worst inhibit your ability to train. On top of all of this, they have the most ill maintained and out of date indoor range in the area, but still charge a similar amount as other ranges. Now, all of that said, a few things that I can say that are good about this place and why someone might want to use this range. They have all you can eat memberships which are hard to find in the area and so if you shoot very frequently the math probably is compelling. If you are a regular maybe they don't treat you like scum. If you shoot for very long periods of time they don't enforce time limits on the range during the week. So if you are the guy who shows up two or three times a week with your 1911 or Model 41 and likes to spend two hours slowly shooting at 25 yards maybe this place might work for you, but I am that guy and I have no interest in every going back there. read more

I see some very mixed reviews on here, it didn't stop me from going in looking to purchase my first gun. I spoke with a salesman named Jake. I was looking for Either a Ruger LCP 2 .380 or the Ruger LCR .38 special. To be honest Jake seemed a little slow to help at first. After I was able to somewhat speak about what I wanted (I actually shoot a lot with my grandfather and did extensive research on what I wanted) and told Him I was buying today he warmed up. Now Jake spent about an hour with me answering a lot, A LOT of questions I had. Both to confirm what I already knew and some of what I didn't. He was helpful and professional. These are Firearms after all people. I had a budget he stuck to while showing me the two I was interested in and few below and above. I opted for the LCR revolver Here is what I REALLY liked, after I decided and did the paper work Jake showed me around to $1500+ pistols. Telling me about them and letting me handle them. Terrible business, like to accuse customers of things when they don't know the facts. Ignore customers based on race or treat them differently. Went in to buy ammo, accused me of trying to buy it for my wife and then refused to sell. Of course they would sell me a box of ammo I asked for directly but of my God how dare I ask my wife how many boxes of something else I should get. Of course they would sell me stock finish for a shotgun. The lady at the counter said she could care less if I made a purchase or not, claimed I was going to get them shut down by the ATF. What??? Over two boxes of 9mm ammo??? Why would I risk my FOID just to prove a point to you people? This business has the rudest, most self serving, people working. They are over priced and understocked.
