Our family ordered the prepared Thanksgiving Meal from Midwestern Restaurant. Easy to reheat, ample portions, and every food item was delicious. Juicy white meat turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberries, and dinner rolls. We tossed in our own sweet potatoes and a few our family's dishes too. Did I forget to mention the pumpkin pie? We had to arm wrestle each other for the biggest piece. When I went to pick up the meal at the restaurant...employee "J" was friendly and provided excellent customer service. Will be ordering our Christmas dinner from them too. I was very surprised by the quality of the restaurant side of this business (that' not to say I have anything against the butcher shop or bakery side) and the quality of food they put out. Ordered the larger cut of prime rib and other than it was missing any type of discernable crust on the outer edges of the meat it was as good, if not better, piece of prime rib you can find. To be sure I've paid far more and have had far less quality elsewhere. The diner comes with salad, potato choice, veggie and for an extra 99 cents a piece of pie. With a soda that kicks the whole bill to a little over $20. Pretty sure you can't beat that anywhere on price and definitely not on quality. read more

I don't know why there is not a line out the door & traffic backed up on to Main St every morning! The donuts are in a word "fantastic". Once you try any of their donuts you will wonder how your life has been wasted up until then. There are so many chain donut shops & other shops that end up just being the same. At the MW bakery it is clear they order their supplies from the more expensive side of the catalog . Well done. Bought a few NY Strip steaks this afternoon and lightly rubbed them with Salt Lick garlic dry rub. Cooked them on the Pit Boss @500 for a few minutes each side (flame gate open). I have to say these may have been the best steaks I have ever tasted. They are incredible and I will be a regular customer from now on. Oh did I mention how great the people working there are? This is for the restaurant not the store next to it. We have gone here a couple of times in the past, it's been quite a few years. It was excellent back then, good service, good food. We went yesterday, we wanted to take our visiting daughter to a nice place and we remembered how good it was before. The patty melts were awful. They were overcooked, dry, and literally had a FEW onion pieces on them. They have very little cheese on them, American no Swiss, and what little cheese they had was just melted into the bread. Seriously, they were like a very overdone piece of hamburger, with a few pieces of onion and a tiny bit of American cheese melted into the bread. They were absolutely horrible. The Reuben wasn't any better, very dry, not what you expect at all in a Reuben. It was just some overcooked meat on dry bread. I had an Italian sausage sandwich, the sausage was very dry and also way overcooked, it came on a broken bun, with a few pieces of bell pepper and a few pieces of onion on it. I could have done better at cheap dive some place. They had an empty ketchup bottle on our table. We asked for for two single bills and two of us one one bill. They screwed that up too, and brought a bill for 3 of us and one for one of us. They brought regular tea and we asked for raspberry tea. Even after that, we actually bought pie for dessert. They used to have a nice large piece of pie. These were tiny pieces, and they looked like they sat in the fridge for 3 days. They were not fresh. There was one waitress for the whole room for 20 minutes after we got there, then another one showed up. They were trying to wait 10 tables each, and our waitress actually had to stop and go man the cash register because they didn't have a cashier! This was at 12-1:00, lunch rush hour! They need to hire a new cook and fire the one they have. I don't know what changed since a few years ago, but it looks like EVERYTHING changed. I cannot recommend this place, and it blows my mind we had such a bad experience. I would have complained to the manager, but it looks like they didn't have one there at all, or THEY would have been running the register, not the waitress! read more

My boyfriend brought me to this gem for lunch and I think I'll be back a lot. Very clean and basic restaurant with some good food and service. It's not over seasoned, salty or greasy. Just simple food. I had a cheeseburger and coleslaw and my boyfriend had the chicken sandwich with potatoes salad. The burger was juicy and so was the chicken in my boyfriend's sandwich. We stopped in the bakery and grabbed a chocolate cream pie and lemon poppyseed muffin bread that were both delicious. If you're a meat lover you need to stop by the butcher shop. read more

Never eaten in the restaurant and it seems to be surprisingly busy for the reviews. Although, the folks I tend to see in the restaurant likely don't use Yelp. On that note, I have dealt with the bakery staff and am pretty sure I know the bitter woman others have spoken of... she certainly does seem mad even when scooping ice cream. I love their $.50 ice cream, it makes me feel like a kid again and I love that they generally only have a few options to choose from. I have tried their bars and some are better than others and mostly all of them are better than I could bake myself. On to the meat market. Yes, I too have seen the corn fed beef sign. Yes, this has bothered me some as well since I am aware that cows really prefer to eat grass, just like chickens like to eat bugs and fruit and whatnot. However, I would not go as far to say that the meat here is comparable to choice/prime meat from Frys. Maybe as far as nutritional content (fat, blabla whatever), but flavor wise? I avoid getting meat from Frys these days, even the choice/prime stuff. With that said, I do feel that they have a decent selection of cuts to choose from and I do believe their prices are fair. Especially when I consider what I have spent buying meat other places. They do also offer packages which seem decent and remind me of a meat shoppe in south Scottsdale that I love and miss. I am to the point that I will stop in just for the hot pepperoni sticks. Man they're so good! They remind me of being a kid and walking up to the corner store. I know they don't make them there but nonetheless way better than a Jacklink or Slimjim. The staff in the meat market are always very courteous and attentive. I have gone in looking for a certain cut and they have always known what I was talking about and given me alternatives if I have asked. We went in pretty close to closing the other day and it was settling to know how well they clean their area. One gentleman had the slicer, table, whatever it's called, all broken down and was cleaning it well. See, it may be corn fed beef but to me, it has ruined the taste of beef from many other places for me. The twice baked Diablo potatoes are good, their frozen brisket burgers are good, I am not a huge fan if pork but the butterflied chops were good, dude loves the ham salad and chicken salad. The beans weren't up my alley, a little too sweet and the kabobs are a little sweet for my liking as well. We will keep coming here, who knows maybe one day they will offer grass fed beef and all of my wildest dreams will have come true. read more

I am deeply disappointed, I have been a customer of MW Meats for over a year and am saddened at how poor the quality of their products has changed to. I purchased one of the ready to go boxes of meat and found the hamburger fatty and tasteless, the bacon thin and with no flavor and the steaks and pork chops okay but definitely NOT worth the high price I paid. My first experience with Midwestern Meats was amazing! The meat was full of color, flavor and when cooked it smelled incredible! Now, unfortunately it is completely opposite...the meat is fatty and not bright and colorful as before and when cooked you don't have that wonderful aroma that causes your mouth to water as you anticipate your meal. Most of my last box went to the dog. I will be finding another source for my meat purchases in the future. read more

Looked nice and clean, good parking. We went on the butcher side to buy brisket. We looked and couldn't find it in their small meat case. We asked the young man behind the counter if they had any, and he said yes. We looked again. Didn't see any. Asked again he pointed and said it was there. Looked, still nothing. We went back and forth. Finally my friend asked him to show it to us. He came out, obviously annoyed and picked up a slab of meat, which did not say brisket, it said untrimmed prime. There was hardly anyone there and for him to act like we were pestering him was disappointing to say the least. The bacon was good but not memorable. The bakery items, napoleon and horn, were stale, extremely stale. Were it not for the long drive I would have asked for a refund. I also expected real whipped cream in these 2 items and was disappointed. Recommendation to bakery, throw out old pastries. I got the open face prime rib with gravy today. Very good choice if you are in the mood for beef. Connected to the restaurant is their bakery and meat shop. The meat shop is amazing. They have some of the best burgers around. You can get a brisket burger, burger mixed with ground bacon and that's just the beginning. They have quarter ham (unsliced), bacon, sausages and more. I saw their claim as selling beef sourced from one purveyor in Iowa so I was expecting to be able to buy USDA PRIME cuts of beef but when I asked was told they sell Australian beef cuts and can't classify them as USDA inspected & graded prime. Just got back from eating lunch here with my dad... and I can safely say that I won't have to eat anything for the rest of the day...possibly the rest of the weekend. The Bacon Cheddar Stuffed Burger I got was HUGE. It came to the table buried in lettuce, onion and tomato (which I promptly removed) as well as pickles (which I left on). I ate almost the whole burger before being tempted by a piece of Banana Cream Pie (which was AMAZING). My only negative is I wasn't asked how I wanted my burger cooked... and I got it a little rarer than I usually like my beef. Thankfully, the melty, gooey cheese made me forget about the pinkness of the burger. All in all, I would recommend this place for you hungry carnivores out there. Come with an appetite. Ok, first to dispel some erroneous information on some older posts...all employees wear masks and they are worn properly. No problems there. This was our first visit so we just roamed, especially in the meat department. I was asked a couple times if I needed help but I declined. After having made up my mind, I was standing at the counter for all of five seconds when one of the butchers yelled "counter" and help was there immediately. Very friendly, helpful people here. We walked out with some bakery samplings (apple fritters are to die for) and meat. Our first meal was their prepared Diablo Stuffed Chicken Breasts. You simply MUST try these. They are delicious. No cooking instructions are provided but we baked at 400 for 30 minutes and the internal temp was 170+ so I'd suggest baking at 375. Definitely buying more of these on our next visit. read more

We paid $50.00 for supposed aged rib eye beef steak, and it was horrible jerky beef that was worse than I've had at the cheapest steakhouse. This place is a pretentious gourmet butcher shop at which only the most inexperienced should shop. Don't be fooled! There are for real sources of great steak out there.
