Everything was absolutely perfect!! It was the 4th and we're out of town. Decided to eat here! Reservations were accepted and we got in. The service was spot on. Quick drinks. Our server made recommendations that were absolutely delicious! We started with the cornbread. Omg! Came in a skillet with butter and honey. Seemed like dessert first!! For the place to be packed, they were working together and getting the job done. Next was our brisket cheese steak and husband got burnt ends. Wow just wow!! Speechless it was so good! We finished off with banana pudding!! Now we're in heaven!! Absolutely recommend this place and would visit many times over!!!

My best friend stumbled upon this BBQ spot in the Ballentyne area of Charlotte, NC. Great restaurant set up indoor and outdoor seating and nice sized bar area! Hostess very friendly and seated us right away. Our server was great he told us the Saturday Specials. We both had the small pulled pork plate with 1side and it comes with pickles and hush puppies. Wow the small plate portion is plenty of pulled pork!! The BBQ is awesome baby, nice and moist and flavorful!! I did have to try the jalapeño cheddar sausage link so good too!! Easy 5 Stars loved everything!!

No complaints here. The place was packed and it's fully justified. There is plentiful seating and we didn't have to wait long for a table even though it was busy. I ordered the combo plate and got the hot barbecue sauce to go with it. Just know that you have to ask for this sauce as it's not provided by default. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender. The brisket had a nice smoked flavor to it. Everything to me tasted fresh and house made. Even the pickles and coleslaw tasted freshly made. The portions are ginormous. I could only finish a third of the plate and took the rest home. But I am really looking forward to the leftovers.

Wow! Fast service, fresh ingredients and generous portions. The perfectly cooked proteins and rich sauces were my favorites. Highly recommended!

Small chain BBQ place. I was at the Ballantyne location. The atmosphere is typical wrestlers BBQ motif. Woodsy, western, dim but adequately lit. Lots of tables and large bar area. The service here was fast and friendly and the food was very good (but I'm not a BBQ aficionado). I had the brisket plate with beans as a side. It comes with a few hush-puppies and pickles. Although the brisket was very good, the beans were my favorite. I also had the Pecan cobbler for dessert. And, they have several local brews on tap. Here's the rundown: Beans- sweet, not too much, just right. With slivers of meat in every bite. Pickles- tart and tangy again, not too much, but enough to purse the lips mmmm. Hush puppies- mouth watering with a hint of sweetness. Brisket- The moist (or fatty) is moist and tender. Almost melts in your mouth. Has a lite salty taste but begs for sauce. The lean is more tougher as expected with less salty taste. House BBQ sauce- basic sweet and tangy great pairing with the brisket. Spicy Mustard - different for bbq, but a great change-up to traditional bbq sauce Spicy habanero sauce-thicker, bolder sauce with lingering heat. Unless you like a burning tongue, might want to alternate this with the house. Pecan Cobbler- Different, kind of like a very thick pecan pie. Crusty, lots of typical filling, and topped with crushed pecans. It was good, but.

I know the kids say "mid" means mediocre so in that case this place should be called "fire" wood because it was so fire (that means good). - as you can tell I'm young and hip- If the Mac and cheese was on love island I would pull it for a chat and talk about no longer exploring other connections!! Excellent food

Has a taste fur done good brisket, so OF COURSE I came to midwood! Since the very first time I tried the food here, it has always been full of flavor and very moist! Portions are great and the food is just good! Went with the brisket queso dip and the brisket cheesesteak for my meal. So darn good! Our server Danielle was nice, but it took her a while to actually come and treat us. Looking for something good, moist and Smokey?! Check them out!

Location- clean. Welcoming. Well placed in a very nice area. Wonderful parking. Food- To damn die for. The jalepeno poppers wrapped in bacon are a must. Pork- moist, smoked well, and well seasoned. The smoked sausage ranks among some of the best. Service- top notch. I sat at the bar, had a few drinks, food came out so fast I couldn't ask for more. Belay The Bartender is amazing!!! I'll never not come back here when I am close. Honestly one of the best places to enjoy a meal.

This is my new favorite bbq spot! The food is delicious, serving sizes are huge generous portions and it is a nice atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and check on you just often enough to make sure everything is good. I recommend any of the platters, especially if you like leftovers. And their queso appetizer is delicious.

Delish! I've been to Franklin BBQ in Austin, TX (best in the country) and this place is pretty good. I had a sliced brisket sandwich and my son had the burnt ends plate. I took banana pudding to go. Everything was good. The only negative was the hush puppies were a little hard. Seemed overcooked. I'm from Louisiana and pretty sure I'm an expert in all things fried, especially southern and soul food. :D If you have family or friends in town that would like to try some of the best BBQ in Charlotte, this is it. My family always made both BBQ sauces and these are perfect (Caroline vs. traditional tomato-based). House-made pickles, too. Everything was great!!

Small Midwood Chopped Salad add bbq

Midwood Smokehouse is the spot for all things BBQ served in a family friendly casual enough environment. This reminds me a lot of Little Richards back home which feels like a warm hug for me! The pulled pork BBQ is packed with flavor here and I was impressed with the brisket as well. The meats are tender, juicy and don't really need a sauce but the sauces are good. I was craving a BBQ salad and the small size was plenty of food for dinner. I wish the salad came with some hushpuppies because at Little Richards, it does. I want to go back and try some more items. The mac and cheese looks fantastic! This is also a spot you can feel comfortable taking your 86 year old grandma because there is something for everyone on the menu.

The ambiance is very beautiful, it's a very big space, lots of seating for big or small parties. There is plenty of outdoor seating as well when the weather permits. There's a bar as well if you wanted cocktails. The service was great as well. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. The whole team of servers worked together to ensure you received your food as it became available. We ordered a little of everything as this was our first time here. The sides are served family style so depending on your party size will determine how much you need. There were just two of us, however we still wanted to try everything as there were sides not served at most BBQ spots. We ordered succotash, beets, collards greens, potato salad and Mac and cheese. We had some brisket, ribs and pulled pork for our meat selection. The ribs were very good. They had a nice bark on them, you can taste the smokiness and they were very tender. The pulled pork and brisket were good. Adding a sauce enhanced the both of them. I throughly enjoyed the succotash and beets because it was different but also because they tasted amazing. It was nice to have something outside of the box of normal Bbq sides. My favorite of the other sides was definitely the collard greens. The potato salad was okay, and the Mac and cheese presented a different flavor. You can tell there is a variety of cheeses incorporated. It was terrible just different. We enjoyed trying the sauces as well with the brisket and pork. Overall it was a nice experience.

Mac's sits in the heart of South End and shares the neighborhood with several busy bars and nightlife spots. Parking can be a bit of an adventure, but they do have dedicated lots nearby. Once you're there, the setup is great: a large dining room, plenty of picnic-table patio seating, and my favorite option--a seat at the outdoor bar where the inside bar opens through a service window to the patio. The bartender, Alyssa, was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable, and patient while I stared at the giant menu trying to figure out what I wanted. When I asked for recommendations, she immediately suggested the burnt ends, BBQ baked beans, and Mexican street corn. Excellent call. The blackberry seasonal hard cider she recommended was delicious and paired beautifully with the meal. My only surprise was the price. At nearly $9, it was more than I expected for a cider, and I wish I had asked beforehand. The burnt ends arrived with bright pickled red onions that added the perfect acidic balance. The flavor was excellent--smoky, rich, and satisfying. That said, they leaned heavily toward the fatty side. The deeper I got into the serving, the more rendered fat I encountered compared to meat. Delicious? Yes. Light? Absolutely not. The BBQ baked beans were exactly what you want from a barbecue joint. The Mexican street corn was a standout and a refreshing contrast to all the richness. My only critique was that the burnt ends weren't served quite as hot as I would have liked, and by the end of the meal, the richness became overwhelming. That's probably more on me for ordering burnt ends at 9 p.m. than on Mac's. The final bill came to about $37 before tip, which felt a little steep for a solo barbecue dinner and cider. Looking back, I'd probably visit during lunch. Their weekday lunch specials around $10 look like one of the best values in South End. Would I come back? Absolutely. The service was warm, the recommendations were spot on, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the food delivered exactly what a barbecue craving calls for. Next time, I'll arrive earlier, bring a bigger appetite, and maybe save the burnt ends for lunchtime. Life is too short not to eat well, Charlotte. If you're exploring South End and craving barbecue, Mac's Speed Shop is worth a stop.

They didn't promise "fall off the bone" so I can't expect that, but most places I get ribs they just tear apart. This took work, and the mass of BBQ sauce slathered on makes the surgery a mess. So, that was a bummer. The tots lack creativity or any sort of seasoning which seems like an easy upgrade and a crowd pleaser. Oh well. Maybe I got there in a bad day, but if this is standard then I can't see not going to Noble Smoke next time I need ribs.
