Wife and I thought we would give this place a try, as when we did eat here in 2016 it was filthy and tables were littered with uneaten food and debris. So why go back? Just to see if what we experienced was their norm or not. Fortunately, this was a good experience. Ordering took awhile, as we did not know their menu of options, but we got it done. Wife had a three sides plate ($8.49) and she liked it. And we ate in their outdoor patio, which was clean and tidy. I had a pastrami Sandwich City Meal which came with a side, but the kicker is that I had to pay for each side plus the meal. Sandwich ($10.99) I ordered "lean" as BBQ places usually leave the fat on your protein. The meat was pretty dry, but had a good taste. A side of creamy slaw was very good ($2) and I was able to eat some of wife's fried okra, which was also very good with ranch dressing. Beverages, like iced tea and Pepsi were $2.99 each. The tables inside were cleared with the exception of one large table that had their traditional display of uneaten food and debris. I only saw three employees: order taker, kitchen preparer and a woman who picked up the orders and brought them to you. Apparently City BBQ has yet to hire a bus person to clear and clean tables and to sweep the floor. Irony is that when we have been to events catered by City BBQ the food was excellent. We will not be in a rush to re-patronize this location. read more

The best BBQ ribs in the city and the best service. Not to mention the Mac and cheese is so good that I order it for all holidays and pass it on as my own (shhhhhh). I came today and the ribs were not ready. No big deal, a 10 minute wait. I told them I would wait in my car and come back. They walked my order out to me with a smile. We travel a lot around the country and have visited several City Barbecue locations in Ohio, but this place is truly even better! We were greeted with a warm, friendly welcome as soon as we walked in, and the atmosphere felt inviting right away. It should be called ShiT*y BBQ. White slaw IS a mayonnaise slaw and should NOT taste like vinegar! Nasty. Mac&cheese was SO salty, I threw it away. Ice creams scoops of the meats, sad. Anyone remember the TV ad asking "WHERE'S THE BEEF?" Not recommended at all. read more

City BBQ is a chain restaurant and the flavors match the profile. My husband ordered a 2 meat plate that came with sides. I ordered a BBQ salad with a brisket taco. All of the meats were dry and lacked flavor. They added salt and pepper to my BBQ when they served it but otherwise it was really bland. The salad was fresh and I enjoyed the brisket taco. I love the fact that they have a self serve condiment bar. Load up on the sauces, you're gonna need them. There were 2 other groups of customers, but the restaurant was otherwise empty when we were there between 6:30-7:30pm on a Thursday. There is much better BBQ in this area. read more

Very disappointing. I am visiting from NJ, where decent BBQ is non-existent. This reminded me of home (not in a good way). I ordered the two meat sampler, with brisket and ribs. The brisket was cold (see how the fat is white in the photo). The ribs were relatively dry. I understand that you want a little "tooth" with ribs, but these felt dry and tough. The sides were unremarkable. If McDonald's did BBQ, I think this is what it would taste like. read more

The first time I tried City BBQ I got delivery. I was impressed with the fast service since I live in Waxhaw. I am a native Texan so when I think of BBQ, I am thinking Brisket. I ordered a lean, sliced Brisket sandwich with sauce on the side. The sides I got were potato salad and baked beans. I tell I was so happy to find Texas Brisket here! There was so much Brisket on my sandwich that I had enough for the next day. It was tender but lean as I asked. The original sauce was so good, a little spicy, a little sweet but not vinegary. I found my BBQ place. My next order, I picked up was a BBQ chicken quarter (white meat). This was also delicious and tender. Next time I plan to eat inside. My only suggestion would please to add a chopped Brisket loaded potato to your menu! They go over big in Texas! read more

Stopped in for a late lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. I must say this is some of the best barbecue I've had in sometime. The collard greens and baked beans were exceptionally good! The brisket succulent, and the ribs fall off the bone. Delicious! My wife said her cornbread was delicious and the smoked wings out of this world as well! The only down check were the french fries which were soggy . Our meal came out relatively expeditiously. The restaurant itself was clean and orderly as were the restrooms! On our trip in North Carolina we had lunch at City BBQ . I have had my share of good BBQ which I just did a review on a location in West Palm Beach but am sorry to say that Florida BBQ has nothing on North Carolina BBQ. It was very delicious, tender, and juicy. The smoky taste was so on point. We have a Brisket sandwich, Brisket, ribs, smoked turkey, garlic toast, fries and okra. Everything was delicious. Only complaint was the fries was a bit too salty but still tasty. They have different sauces to choose. Can't wait to go back. Can't stop thinking of that smoke turkey.. read more

I begged my wife for weeks to let me try this place and she finally gave in. HO LEE CRAP WAS IT AMAZING. We started with a 2 meat sampler, we picked the ribs and brisket which were absolutely amazing. Great flavor and minimal bbq sauce was needed. My wife didn't like the Briskey as much. She's more of a burnt ends fan than ribs or brisket. She was surprised however by hoe delicious the sides were. We went with Mac and cheese. Fried okra and collard greens. The Mac and cheese was delicious. Creamy cheesy goodness with a thick layer of cheese melted on. The collards were also very tasty however the greens weren't cooked all the way as they had some crunch left in em. I've never had em that way, just saying. They were also generous and gave us some samples as it was our first time. We tried the bread pudding and green beans. The green beans did have bacon in them and were also quite tasty. My wife took claim to the bread pudding and didn't share but I'm told it was amazing. All in all I had a great time and the food was great! My wife didn't agree but I loved it. For the price being as high I was afraid but you gotta pay for quality and I will gladly hand my dollars over to this small business and during these unprecedented times they need our support.
