For one take the cell phones away from the waitress and bar tender. Fix your air conditioners. Remove the included tip on the check as waitress are less caring, less attentive, knowing that a 18% tip is in the bag. I think the waitress needs some retraining. Also the need to ask if anyone is allergic to any foods. The food is still good. However I won't be going there anytime soon or until I hear that these issues have been addressed. Wepa!!! Easy solid four or five for about as authentic Puerto Rican eats you're going to get on the mainland and with enough cervesas, you'd almost think you're on the island! Small seating area inside not really meant for a large party. I think there were 5 or 6 tables inside. Service was really slow. We later learned it was because our server was hanging out outside with her boyfriend and must've lost track of time each time she should've been serving us. Inside it was very hot. I think it felt cooler outside and it's summertime. The food took a very long time; but then again the prolonged waiting period could've been due to our server hanging out. The food didn't taste that great. The Mofongo wasn't mashed up very well and the meat was dry. I have been to Míguelos frequently since they opened. Yesterday went for lunch. My preferred drink was not available, no problem there. I then requested water with lemon as a replacement. The server came with a bottle of water and I mentioned just tap water . Well the restaurant does not serve tap water. Allegedly they did not have tap water. So may you explain then how you wash your hands here? How you wash dishes? No, no tap water to customers. Bottom line, they are only providing a $5 water bottle if you want water and then be aware ! My husband and I loved Miguelo's Cafe & Bar. The hostess and our waitress did not speak English and we do not speak Spanish so another customer stepped in and assisted us with the menu. They were very gracious and we appreciated it. Blanca was an outstanding waitress and even with the language barrier we wanted for nothing. I will eagerly request her during a return visit. For appetizers we picked the Sorullitos de Malz ($3.00) and Queso Frito cob salsa. ($5.95) The cheese was fried to perfection and came with a delicious sweet sauce. We also loved the fried polenta. For entrees my husband went with the Mofongos Rellenos Churrasco ($17.95) and I ordered the Seafood Paella with tostones. ($18.95) The Mofongos is their best seller and taste outstanding but the paella was over the top delicious. It was loaded with seafood and piping hot when served. I highly recommend both dishes. For dessert I ordered the vanilla flan and my husband had the tres Leches. The tres Leches ($3.25) was good but the flan ($2.50) was extra creamy and intensely flavorful. We ordered espresso with dessert ($2.25 each) and was shocked by the high quality of their coffee. This restaurant is a hidden gem. I gave this place a shot on a recommendation from my barber and let me tell you...from the moment we got there we just knew it would be great. The main entrance is on the parking lot side and inside is lively with music playing and people having a good time. There is bar that you can sit and eat or just have a drink, the tables are close to each other but that didn't bother me at all. I ordered bistec encebollado (steak with onions) with arroz con gandules. Much to my delight my order came with tostones and salad, that's usually considered extra sides anywhere else! The chef knocked it out of the park in my opinion the beef had the right amount of vinegar to enhance the flavor, the beans were seasoned just right and what can I say about tostones I just love them. This dish made me very happy, I literally did not leave a grain of rice on my plate! My boyfriend had the carne frita (fried pork chunks) with white rice and beans and I know he enjoyed it because he ate it all. We bumped into this spot when we were looking for another miguelo's which ended being called almost the same but found out they are related. Except miguelo's cafe is more of just a restaurant and miguelo's ultra lounge is a "wanna be club: that charges entrance at 8pm of $10 ". Anyways back to the review for this place. The ladies were friendly and heard us out with the whole experience of the mix up of the places. They recommended the sampler since it was 6 of us and wanted to try it out for the first time. This sampler was enough of a size for the min of 4 adults (Ofcourse depending on how much you can eat) but it was a great size for $32. The food tasted good. We also order modelos, Coronas and sangrias (which when we received the bill they were name "gasolina on the rocks" which makes me wonder if they were really sangrias or gasolina drink from 7-11, which we charge $8 each but sell at 7-11 for $1 or $2". The environment could have been better with some music but the music started 5 mins before the closed which was 10." The ladies started sweeping and picking tables close to closing times right next to us making it obvious they were waiting for us. Almost 2 hrs for 2 appetizers and 2 entrées; to the point a friend texted to check on me. Lastly, no sign saying that a 15% tip was included in the final bill. I do not mind tipping, however, I did not believe that the slow service overall was deserving of 15%. I suggest advertising this and allowing the customer to decide if they are ok with it and dine or leave, but not to find out at the final bill. Place has potential. read more
