Did Uber Eats /takeout and even that has earned mikado a 4/5, honestly, I'm willing to bet it would be a 5/5 had we dined in. I wasn't feeling super hungry so I ordered a California roll since that is a good way for me to assess if a place is good or not and the California roll here was super fresh- the avocado was melt in your mouth and the imitation crab still had a bite to it. The soy sauce had a sweet tone to it. But what really sold this place to me was the yellowtail roll, the fish was fresh and the green onion still had a bite to it. Probably one of the best bites I've had in New York this time around. Also tried the scallop maki and spicy crab, both were fine but that yellowtail really stole the show! Gf loves this place and I must say, had she not insisted I try everything she got, this place woulda probably only gotten a 3/5 for me.

Mikado is hands down my favorite sushi spot, especially for their lunch specials. The rolls are always generously filled with super fresh fish, and the rice to fish ratio is perfect every time. No skimping here! The quality is consistently great, the service is quick, and the prices make it such a go to spot for a satisfying sushi meal. If you love fresh, well made rolls, Mikado is the place. Always excited to come back!

Great lunch spot - super quiet on a week day! Food was great, and the lunch special is a steal! Prompt and friendly service.

Valentine's Day dinner was incredible. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The entire restaurant was decorated pink and servers wore pink outfits too! Started off with wonton tacos and miso soup. For mains we ordered the Super Bowl don and I got dinner bento box with chicken teriyaki and uni wagyu roll. We also ordered the spicy crab and a California roll. Food was super fresh and seafood was perfectly seasoned. Super Bowl was loaded with Uni and Toro and Ikura!!Desserts were yuzu cheesecake and lava cake with some green tea. Overall really good and Uni prices were pretty fair. Definitely a great choice on Atlantic Avenue. Will be back for more!

In a word: FRESH. Everything was made with love and care and tasted amazing. Probably a top 3 karaage chicken I've ever had, fresh and juicy. Gyoza and Shumai were made to perfection. Great attentive staff with a nice decor and vibe. No complaints from me, all food plus a beer and two drinks came out to 66$. I'll be back for sure!

The reason to go to this place is happy hour - til 6:30pm it's $3 beer, $1 (stone cold) edamame, $6 maki rolls, $5 plum wine. Not the best quality in the world, but a cheap and easy meal.

Came to try out the Mikado lunch specials which did not disappoint! We each ordered the set of 4 maki which are an incredible deal - only $28 for 4 gigantic rolls. I tried the yellowtail jalapeño, salmon avocado, spicy tuna, and scallion toro (for an extra $3). The yellowtail jalapeño was by far my favorite. I was also very impressed by the salmon, which I tend to be really picky with. Usually toro is my absolute favorite, but I was a little less excited about this one. There rolls were so big that I could only eat half for lunch and I ended eating the rest for dinner. Overall, this is a very solid deal for the price.

Charming spot with great lunch deals! Came by for lunch to catch up with friends and we got the sushi & maki roll set, chicken karaage don, and the scallop yuzu maki roll. The $22 sushi set was a solid deal--8 pieces of nigiri and a tuna scallion roll. While the fish wasn't the absolute freshest, it was definitely better than your average sushi place. I do wish the nigiri selection had more variety instead of duplicates of the same fish. Just a heads-up: the chef goes a little heavy on the wasabi, so be prepared! The scallop yuzu roll was fresh and sweet, though it had a bit too much rice compared to the amount of fish. I didn't try the karaage don myself, but my friend seemed to enjoy it!

I'm surprised by the experience I had here! I've only heard good things from many many people, but didn't love my experience trying the sushi. I ordered Mikado's 4 rolls lunch special and got salmon avocado, yuzu scallops, yellowfin and jalapeño, and eel and avocado and had it delivered (so I cant speak to the service or ambiance). I really appreciated how it was packaged (very nicely and beautiful branding), and they give a lot of soy sauce which I appreciate. My order also came on time. They also gave generous portions of meat for each, and the fish tasted fresh. Unfortunately, the rice felt very gummy and mushy, so it made the roll a bit unappetizing. I would try this spot again given it's been recommended so often and am open to having my mind changed!

    HH sushi rolls ($6 each)
    Samantha W.

Came here for HH with a friend for their $6 sushi roll and $3 beer deal. The HH sushi rolls only have 4 pieces, just fyi. We got 5 rolls and an edamame to share. It was plenty for the two of us! I thought the edamame could've used some more salt, but overall it was good. The rolls were good, nothing amazing, but that's what I suspected with such a good HH deal. The fish was fresh, just not as tender and melty as other sushi I've had. Overall, it was exactly the meal we set out to have for a nice catch-up between friends.

    4 maki rolls to go

Fast, fresh, easy take out. Miso soup was fine, cucumber salad was crunchy- tho better with a splash of soy, 4 roll maki set (tuna + cucumber, tuna + avocado, spicy tuna, salmon + ikura) were all good. The packaging is cute and practical- appreciate the little dish for soy. Fine option if you are in the area.

Came in on Halloween and was promptly seated to my surprise! Lots of staff, very fast service. We got the hand roll special and the deluxe sushi set, and they were both great! They were definitely generous with the portions on the hand rolls, and I felt it was a good deal. Worth a try!

It's not like one was actually reserved, but hey, it worked out, so I'm happy about that. Onto the food: I am half Haitian, and I may not speak Haitian Kreyol, but I know my Haitian food. I can prove my Haitian ethnicity by cooking traditional dishes. The legume was on point! That dish was my favorite. My friend truly enjoyed her salmon. Honestly, I wish I had gotten the salmon to take home instead of the Haitian fried chicken. Now, that wasn't that great to me, and I didn't enjoy it :( I'm still giving them all the stars and all the props because I really appreciated the service. This was my first time trying a Haitian patty with spinach, and it was absolutely fantastic. I think it's even better than the chickpea one. I would definitely highly recommend this place and also go back. But the Haitian fried chicken need to be better. Still, I'll definitely come again and try the salmon next time!!!

I ordered the vegan platter whose black beans were smooth and piping hot, alongside the crispy fried tostones and meaty vegan meatballs. In fact the meatballs were so meat-like that neither my sister nor my husband could belief that they were made of jackfruit. The white rice was also extremely fluffy and moist and judging by the diligent rice-washing that was taking place behind the counter as we ate, I could tell that the staff really works hard to make it not just an afterthought, but a quality addition to the meal. My sister also really enjoyed her shrimp plate while my husband devoured his half-chicken platter. The sauces on our platters were also extremely flavorful, complementing the proteins in a beautiful way. All of us left Lakou Cafe feeling happy and satisfied with the portion sizes and level of quality. 10/10 I will definitely be heading back to this place the next time I'm in Brooklyn!

The patty is…read morea mix of oats and mushrooms, and the "cheese"--which is actually a cashew-based creation with oil--has a subtle flavor. It also comes with a vegan ranch-style dressing. When I tried it, the overall taste was nutty and mushroom-forward. Does it taste like beef? Not really. It's more like a lightly seasoned, spongy mushroom patty with hints of the creamy cashew "cheese" and dressing. The burger is a bit messy and tends to fall apart, so you'll want to eat it over something or wrap it in plastic or parchment. Alternatively, you can order it as a wrap, including a gluten-free option for just $1 more. Honestly, I think the wrap might be the better choice over the burger bun. I also tried the chili, which had a distinct split pea flavor with plenty of beans and a nutty undertone. The potato salad was creamy, made with diced potatoes that were lightly seasoned. It wasn't particularly memorable, but it was fine. Overall, for $13, the meal was decent. I don't approach vegan food expecting it to mimic fast food; I look for quality and originality, and this place offers something that's passable. The vibe is very indie and hipster, with a sense that they put care and spirit into their food. I've walked past this place before--I even visited once with my sister to try the cornbread and chili, which were okay--so I figured I'd stop in again. The location has charm, but the food didn't leave a lasting impression. It's good for what it is, and I appreciate the effort, but nothing really stood out. I've read other reviews saying the quality was better pre-COVID, though I can't speak to that since I never ate here before the pandemic. If that's true, it makes sense. Would I come back? Maybe, but probably not on a budget. For what it is, though, it's worth trying if you're curious.

I settled on Haitian food, and after some Googles I settled on Anmwey Eatery. The reviews were good and it was only a 5 minute drive from my mom's house. I ordered at the counter when I arrived. I knew I wanted griot (fried pork) with black rice, so that's what I ordered. They were busy, so my food took about 30 minutes to be ready. I was fine with the wait. The bar seats were comfy and I was on my phone. There was also loud reggae music playing from the other room, so I was jammin. I got home and dug into my food and it was almost perfect. The griot was delicious. Just crunchy enough on the outside and tender on the inside. The black rice was a little disappointing, but nothing major. I love black rice, but it lacked flavor. Luckily they give you a side of gravy, which was tasty. I should've taken the girl at the counter up on her offer to get an extra side of gravy. I still devoured everything though. It also came with fried plantain. I'm not a huge fan of unsweet plantain, but it was good when I added the picklez to it. Picklez is spicy, so tread lightly if you don't like heat. 5 stars for Anmwey. I will certainly return.

Instead of pineapple, it features the bold, tangy flavor of sorrel. Blended with coconut cream and rum, it's rich, refreshing, and full of island flavor. Def a fave and it tastes as good as it looks! Sexy lady - The Sexy Lady is a light but strong fruity cocktail that mixes the fresh taste similar to a lychee martini with the sweet, floral flavor of elderflower and juicy tropical fruits. It's smooth, fun, and a little flirty. We enjoyed this so much that we found ourselves guessing the ingredients! Sweet chili wings and Oreo waffle- The waffle batter was rich and delicious, with that classic cookies-and-cream taste shining through. I just wish it had been a bit crispier and more golden brown--that's my personal preference. Still, the flavor was on point. The wings were the real star perfectly cooked with a sweet, tangy, and spicy glaze that hit all the right notes. Altogether, it was a fun and tasty twist on sweet and savory. Chicken and Birthday Cake Waffle- The waffle had a sweet, cake-like taste with colorful sprinkles mixed in, and the batter was really tasty. I do wish it had been a bit crispier and more browned to give it that perfect texture, but the flavor made up for it. The fried chicken on top was juicy and well-seasoned, adding a savory balance to the sweet waffle. Overall, it was a creative and satisfying take on a classic sweet-and-savory combo. Appetizer Jerk wings- Hands down the favorite of the meal. They were packed with bold flavor--spicy, savory, and just the right amount of heat. The seasoning was spot on and the wings were cooked to the perfect texture. Every bite was juicy, flavorful, and left you wanting more. A true standout. We also can't forget the special sauce on the side--creamy and slightly sweet, it paired nicely with the wings and helped balance the heat. That said, the wings were so flavorful on their own, they didn't even need it. Entrees The Calypso Shrimp- Was beautifully presented as a standout dish. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, juicy, and coated in a sweet and spicy secret sauce that had just the right kick paired with creamy garlic mashed potatoes. It wasn't a fave but the presentation made up for it! Oxtail Low Mein - Beautifully plated in an abstract bowl. The Oxtail Lo Mein was a flavorful fusion dish that delivered more heat than I expected--but in a good way. The noodles were coated in a rich, savory brown sauce, and the oxtail was incredibly tender, falling off the bone. Each bite was packed with bold flavors, especially the deep notes of ginger and soy. The spice gave it an extra kick, making it a comforting yet exciting twist on classic lo mein.
