I don't recommend it though because shortly after we were seated, it did get very crowded. 4/5 ordered the full omakase ($120) which came with 3 appetizers, 1 sashimi plate, 9 pieces of sushi and 1 hand roll and dessert. The place appears to be a neighborhood favorite because it was fairly busy on a Tuesday night. Glad we made a reservation at the sushi bar. I enjoyed every item from the tasting and that doesn't happen often. The quality of the fish was fresh, with toppings that complemented each piece quite well. Some honorable mentions include the Kumamoto oyster, hamachi with shishito peppers, wagyu with uni and caviar, truffle salmon, botan ebi, and A5 wagyu. The beginning was a little rocky. I'm sure this wasn't too big of a deal but we came for our reservation at the sushi bar and we were the first ones at the restaurant. It was completely empty except for us, but they insisted that we sit in the very back where nobody could see us and it was very dark. After asking if we'd be able to be seated at the bar for our omakase, they seemed apprehensive but let us sit there with a time limit. In the end, I did enjoy the food a lot! This was my first visit to Sushi Lin on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn. It was a Birthday dinner courtesy of my sister, and it couldn't have been better. There were three of us and we all chose the $70 sushi omakase, which comes with ten pieces of sushi and a handroll, as well as a bowl of miso soup. We all decided to start with an appetizer before diving into the omakase and chose three different things. We got the Yuzu Tai, which is thinly sliced Japanese red snapper w/yuzu and white soy sauce (I know, white soy sauce? Trust me, it's a real thing), the Kanpachi Jalapeño, which is thinly sliced amberjack w/yuzu koshō (a fermented paste made from chili peppers, yuzu peel and salt), and finally, the Uni Tasting, which included sea urchin from Hokkaido, Maine, and Santa Barbara. Of the three I actually liked the Kanpachi Jalapeño the best. The Uni Tasting was interesting, but since uni is included with the omakase I'd choose something else next time. We were seated at the sushi bar, so the omakase was served one piece at a time. I got the impression that the omakase served to people at the tables got their sushi in batches of two or three pieces. I definitely recommend eating at the sushi bar. The pacing is better. I won't review each piece or this already long review would turn into War and Peace, but I will tell you what was served. In order: Red snapper w/sea salt and lemon Chūtoro tuna King salmon w/seared tomato Bluefin tuna w/sautéed mushrooms, truffles and truffle butter Baby yellowtail w/ginger, scallions and fried garlic chips Botan ebi Hokkaido scallop w/yuzu zest, lemon and sea salt Seared otoro tuna w/Santa Barbara uni, beluga caviar and gold leaf Hokkaido uni w/wasabi soy Chopped chūtoro tuna and onions w/Maine uni on a thin toast square Lastly, a hand roll of chopped chūtoro, pickled radish and shiso leaf. I also ordered a piece of chopped eel and avocado sushi, which sounded intriguing. Literally, everything was excellent so it's hard to pick any real standouts, but having said that, the king salmon w/seared tomato is a signature item, and worth trying even if you don't get the omakase, and the seared otoro tuna w/Santa Barbara uni, beluga caviar and gold leaf was decadent and incredible. Also, the handroll, while not the most visually exciting item, was one of our group's favorites because of the high-quality nori that really elevated all the ingredients. The service is friendly and solicitous, and we never felt rushed. We especially appreciated the sushi chef explaining each course. It made each morsel that much more special. The restaurant itself is on the small side and reservations are a must. With all the sushi restaurants in Brooklyn you will never run out of choices, but if traditional sushi is your thing Sushi Lin is an omakase bargain that will delight your palate and your senses. read more

The interior is basic so don't expect too much but the service has always been great. Chef Lin and the other chefs are super nice and it seems like there are quite a few regulars at this spot. We tried to walk in last year, but they were fully booked, so we came prepared this time. It's very casual inside, more like a local/neighborhood spot! We were seated at the sushi counter, and I like that not everyone in your party has to order the same sushi set. I opted for the sushi omakase $70, my bf got the sushi & sashimi omakase $90, and my brother got the full omakase $120. TBH, I think you can actually just getaway with the first 2 sets. The full omakase didn't seem as worth it to us, but I'm glad we tried all 3 to compare! The dessert at the end of the full set was SO good, I would definitely just order that a la carte. All the counter seats were taken, but the dining room had a few tables open during the night. There are about 10 seats at the counter where you can watch the chefs prepare sushi. We came for a Sunday night dinner and it was perfectly low key with families, date nights, friends catching up. FOOD: we had the 10 piece and hand roll omakase and an appetizer of sliced yellowtail. The yellowtail was good but nothing to write home about. The OMAKASE THO. I knew when the first three pieces came out (including salmon with charred tomato that was the best piece of sushi I've had in awhile and an o toro that simply melted in my mouth), that this would be an amazing dinner. I was not disappointed in any piece of sushi that we ate. Each one was amazing and expertly topped with things like truffle, caviar, Hokkaido uni, gold flakes, that only enhanced the flavor of each dish. We kept looking at each other and exclaiming how happy we were to finally find an excellent omakase near us in Brooklyn. SERVICE: service was excellent here and they had a lot of people working. This meant a different waiter was taking our order or refilling our water or bringing us food each time- they were very attentive and around just enough when we needed them! I'm sad I didn't get to sit at the counter to watch the chefs in action but next time! This neighborhood has stiff competition in this regard, and we keep finding ourselves back here. The service is great, there were about 4-5 servers and all were attentive. You could tell they were having fun as they'd hang around the bar and wait until a patron needed them. They serve 4 different kinds of Omakases at different price points. They also have other traditional combos, rolls, sashimi, and dons on their menu. Highly recommend getting a couple of appetizers to go with your meal, we went with tako sunomono and ebi shumai. Both were delicious and half the fun in this restaurant is seeing how they plate the dishes. We also enjoyed the sake that our server recommended. We got the table omakase and truly loved every bite that we had. In particular, my favorite bite was a piece of salmon nigiri that had cooked tomato on top of it. I never would have dreamed of this pairing but it complimented the fish incredibly well.
