Nothing but good things to say about sushi gallery! I used to live next door and would order take out from them fairly often. It was always so fresh and delicious. I had not been back in a few years since I live in Manhattan now so the other day I decided to commute down to Brooklyn and dine in. The restaurant is very clean and the service is quick and friendly. I ordered the spicy combo which comes with 3 rolls for $18. I also ordered a kimchi roll and edamame which are wonderful options for those who are vegetarian. The food was served quickly and tasted amazing. They also gave free miso soup to eat while I waited! Food was fresh and the decorations are also very well done But the staff needs more training. Reception was very hard. It's 4:00 in the afternoon and one table with two people sitting down. For the price the quality was more than I expected. Especially like the fact that their rolls are thin layer of rice and more of the contents inside. Had the mega roll for myself. Great sushi that comes in huuuge sizes. I ordered ahead on the phone since I was making a large order and when I arrived the cashier/waitress forgot to give me my change. When I came back she had to be reminded, and still gave me the wrong change which led to a semi awkward encounter of how much I gave versus how much the bill was. After we worked it out, she gave me my correct change with no apology and continued on with what she had to do. It understandably seemed to be a busy time so I'm sure that orders were starting to pour in, but the bag was also not properly sealed which could turn into a bit of a mess for a large order. The sushi was delicious, and I particularly enjoyed my clark roll and the explosion roll really did explode with a bunch of flavors. Fish were fresh, but the wasabi was a little questionable. It looked like a blob of green liquidy goop. 5 rolls were enough to stuff my boyfriend and I - and we're both hefty eaters! Other than the service I have no other complaints! read more

The entrance/exterior decor certainly does not scream out at you, so it took me a few mins to find it even though I was standing right in front of it. (It's right outside the Clark St. subway station.) Prices are super decent for Brooklyn, and the menu has a nice variety of standard and special rolls. I ordered the Clark and Big Mag rolls. They were rolled a bit loosely, but they were both tasty! My stomach felt a bit funky later that night, but it was nothing serious. Overall, I would stop in again for reasonably priced and tasty sushi! *11/6 Update- My stomach was upset again after my second visit even though the sushi was still yummy. Who said eating sushi will leave you hungry? Look at the size of the roll! It's a lovely mom and pop shop run by a couple inside Clark Street Station (2,3 train). They've been in the neighborhood forever. They haven't opened up for dine in yet but I always pass by and get some of their pre made sushi. It's delish and the price can't be beat- $5 for California roll and $7 for a salmon avocado or tuna avocado. Every now and then when I'm smart enough to think ahead before I take the train I'll order on their website or by phone just in time to pick up. Their specialty rolls are AMAZING Support small businesses in Brooklyn Heights and get your sushi here! I used to love Iron Chef too but their quality has gone down so much and dining in there is lackluster now. Usually I would be quick to raise my eyebrows at the idea of eating raw fish in a restaurant attached to a subway station, but then again, the world's best sushi restaurant is located inside a Japanese subway, so what do I know? Take a breath and don't panic as you open up the menu - it is definitely long and plentiful. I personally was excited to see more than just the two traditional Japanese soup options of miso and clear soup on the menu and went with the mushroom soup made with enoki and shiitake mushrooms. The broth had a really nice flavor, and for just $3.50 a cup, this soup was the perfect start to the meal. As for the sushi itself, the fish is fresh (special shoutout to the yellowtail here), the rolls are beautiful, and the prices are more than fair for the size of the portions. The Clark Roll and the Explosion Roll both left me satisfied, but there are over 60 rolls on the menu (yes, I counted, judge away) so I look forward to trying quite a few of the other options. There are a few negatives, but obviously not deal breakers for me. You will not get water unless you ask for it. When something is described as spicy, this place really means SPICY - don't be a hero. That is by far my biggest complaint, this place seriously needs to chill out on the spiciness of their rolls. And lastly, what is a Rainbow Roll? I have ordered this roll in many different restaurants and states, and it has always been a California roll topped with raw fish - solid go-to option when you're not in the mood to read a lengthy list of roll descriptions. Here it is simply an avocado roll topped with raw fish. Kiiinda lame. With all that said, this is still exactly the kind of hole in the wall sushi spot that I've been hoping to find in Brooklyn. Turns out I don't need the glamour as long as the food quality is there. Don't be a snob and check them out - not leaving the subway station just might end up seeming like a perk now that winter is officially here to stay. read more

Since I will probably never make it to Japan to eat at Jiro's in the Ginza Metro station, I am glad I live right by Sushi Gallery in Clark St Station! It's a small, quiet spot with the in restaurant dining largely empty. Most people seem to pick sushi up to-go at the small window by the station. Prices are fair and there's a ton of appetizer and sushi options. We got a few rolls, gyoza, and dumpling soup and spent less than $40! The sushi is fresh and there's a ton of fun fish and topping options. I loved every roll with salmon in it. My friend who told me about this place mentioned the family who runs it and how they've been there for years. It definitely has a local/neighborhood feel. A sushi restaurant in a train station? Where have I heard that one before? Of course, Jiro this isn't. But for sushi made out of a very small kitchen (they use a toaster oven to "grill" things), they have an extensive menu and their prices are perfect. I stopped in after work on a snow day after skipping lunch due to not wanting to brave the elements. They have really weird hours (I believe they open at 3pm every day and are closed on Sundays), which makes it weird that they do takeaway sushi in a cooler in the hallway of the Clark St station. If that's not for the lunch crowd, then who is that for? Anyway, I sat down at the counter and ordered two things - -Spicy combo ($13) consisting of spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail rolls -Volcano roll ($11) grilled roll with crab, avocado, and cucumber Let's just say, I felt like a fatass afterward because it was SO much food. Each of the spicy rolls was good, though my favorite was the tuna. And for "white people sushi", the volcano roll was good. Fresh crab too. Service was good, but their weird hours will always be a problem. For lunch, I recommend Iron Chef House down the block. read more

Utter disappoint considering the high reviews. Food is reasonably priced for NYC cost of living standard, but quality of sashimi is mediocre by Mom and Pop owned and operated. Upon entering around 5:15 pm Saturday evening as Power of One (me, myself and I) I was not properly greeted and there was no hospitality or ushering me to a seat by a restaurant hostess. I was not given a menu as there was no smile to welcome me-- this is a food service/ hospitality business and there was no basic customer service of being properly served attentively!! I am a white collar/ pink collar customer service/ hospitality worker for over a decade and was fend off as unwanted or rejected. Since it is family owned and operated the owner's adult daughter had her child running amok and wreak havoc in a business environment rather than provide child care in a home environment. This is a small restaurant with a minimum of five tables and was not extremely busy when I was dinning. Thankfully, no TVs are pinned against the wall for sports addicts. Evidently, I used the takeout menu to place my dine-in order. Sushi Gallery is a combination Japanese and Korean restaurant and the takeout menu had many penned cross-outs for discontinuation rather than spending money to print new menus. I never saw the dine-in menu because I was NEVER given one. I left dispirited. * Sushi deluxe (10 pcs sushi and 6 pcs California Roll served with Miso soup and salad) $20.00 - the sashimi was mediocre as the rice completely fell apart when dipped into soy sauce. The yellow mayonnaise sauce for the California roll is extremely spawn hot spicy. The table soy sauce was extremely high in sodium content and no low sodium soy sauce was, unfortunately, not an option. Amid, considering all the health conscious options in 2016 era (gluten free, vegan, lactose free, peanut free, soy free, etc.) yet Sushi Gallery does not offer low sodium soy sauce. I couldn't believe the reviews initially here on Yelp. How could a sushi restaurant that's attached to the subway be in any way good? I figured the fish would taste like the water that collects under the subway tracks. I was completely wrong. The place was nearly dead on a Saturday night, but that just meant we were served even quicker. We ended up getting a Philadelphia roll, Clark roll, Hicks roll and the Black Pepper Tuna roll. They were absolutely delicious! Freshly prepared, arranged beautifully (see posted picture), flavors we had never had before in sushi (BBQ Eel!) and the sake helped quite a bit. The prices were extremely manageable, especially for NYC sushi. Supporting this little mom and pop business is even easier now because the overall experience was great. The restaurant is very small, in total there's about 6 tables. I wouldn't recommend this place for groups of over 4, you would be taking up half the restaurant if you decided to dine here. Even though the restaurant was full the food was served in a quite reasonable amount of time, however service could be improved. We had only one menu and one set of chopsticks and our server (the only sever) had to be reminded. She also took a while to take our original order and never followed up to ask how the food was. Sushi was of larger caliber in size and definitely of quality. Pricing was very cheap for NY. $20 for 2 with drinks, rolls, and miso soup. read more
