PSA (Public Service Announcement) to all my friends in NJ---if you want to experience excellent Japanese equal to Katana Sushi, you must go to Samurai Sushi located in 3 convenient locations: Hoboken, Jersey City and East Rutherford. Guess how I know? Samurai Sushi is the same owner as Katana Sushi---my favorite Sushi spot in Brooklyn. Their Sushi/Japanese is on another level/plainfield as my precious reviews outlined. I continue to sing its praises because they consistently serve outstanding and fresh Sushi. We ordered their Lobster roll for the second time tonight and it was absolutely delicious. I had forgotten how good it is. My fallback roll continues to be the Tropical Roll, but truth be told, I love it all and there's not one misstep to report. They recently added a bar but BYOB is still in place. Hardworking owner Walter wears several hats and is always so hospitable and welcoming. I always leave having the best meal /Sushi here at Katana. Don't forget to finish things off with their Yuzu cheesecake. Indescribably delicious and light. So while Brooklyn might not be convenient to some, Samurai Sushi will welcome you in New Jersey. Nice and chic neighborhood Japanese restaurants consisting of mainly sushi and ramen. We came by an hour before closing, but they were welcoming to us as the only patrons in the restaurant. They did have a lot of online and pick up orders while we dined though. The decor is quite upscale with katanas and artwork in a dark and moody atmosphere. We had the Tumeric Ginger Tea ($5), which actually came in a pot to share. For our meal, I had the Chirashi ($35) while he had the Tonkotsu Ramen ($15). The chirashi was good and fresh though I have to say that they sliced the pieces thinner, so it seems like more. Overall, solid neighborhood spot that is great for a date night. read more

The nigiri selection was disappointing right off the bat (I did a bogo on Uber Eats so maybe that had a bearing on it) I found a hair (not pictured) on a piece of the salmon avocado roll The last bite of the spicy tuna roll tasted a bit off and the tuna nigiri shown was slightly browning at the edges. I ordered delivery from here for a weekend dinner. We got 2 deluxe sushi plates which comes with 10 pieces of nigiri and then a roll of your choice. We got spicy salmon. We also got a 3 roll combo with eel avocado, salmon avocado, and yellowtail scallion rolls. The deluxe sushi plate was pretty good. I can't remember all the nigiri but I know it has 2 salmon, 2 tuna, eel, cooked shrimp. The nigiri were standard, not bad at all. Made nicely and tasted good for delivery. The spicy salmon roll was really good and we loved that it was actual pieces of chopped salmon with the spicy sauce. Most places mash the salmon and add in tempura flakes so this was a really nice change. The 3 roll combo was good as well. We were full and happy with our meal and glad we tried this place out! They also packaged the delivery items very nicely, gave lots of soy sauce packets, and labeled the rolls so we would know which was which. A really nice and considerate touch! read more

I came here for date night after a movie at Cobble Hill Cinemas and was worried we were too late to be seated. Right away, the host immediately welcomed us and was kind enough to seat us at a prime table with prompt water service (though we picked fast because of the closing time). We ordered three rolls, with the Eel Avocado being especially good, and the Itamae gave us a four fish salad on the house, which was unexpected but really made the night special. All in all, the people were kind, sushi was delicious and filling, and I felt they went above and beyond in spite of our late arrival, when they would have been well within their rights to turn us away. This was great for a date spot and I look forward to returning. I'd give five stars but no one should trust a five star review. read more

Man I'm so torn with writing this review, ordered from Katana since they were shown doing a BOGO deal on Uber Eats so I thought why not try it. I actually expected that maybe the deal was too good to be true. A bit disappointed to see that only one came and there's two of us. Had to make more food last minute. That being said, the sushi is actually good. I'm not too picky so I don't really know what's GREAT quality fish but I have no complaints with the taste overall. Tasted real good! read more

Employee turnover is the consistent norm and every employee is completely clueless because it's always their 'first day.' On Friday January 9th 2026, and after 30 minutes of trying to place an order in person, the manager finally arrived toting 4 boxes of cat food (first clue) and when I specifically asked for no ginger or wasabi, guess what I got (ginger and wasabi.)Then the arriving manager said they are changing management, which would be fine except they have been saying this for the last 4 months. This is the 3rd manager, and the sushi is so mediocre, uninspired and sadly tastes like cardboard. read more

The owners are genuinely kind, accommodating people who always greet us warmly. The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious, and they'll even make special items not on the menu just because they know we enjoy them. But what happened recently went above and beyond anything I could have imagined. I lost my handbag containing two passports, wallet, credit cards, ID, and hundreds of dollars in cash. I was devastated - it was a new passport and I had cash in my bag that was for a gift. I thought I'd left it in an Uber and searched everywhere. We hadn't been in for sushi in a while, but when my husband stopped by for dinner, they handed him my bag! Apparently I had left it there. Everything was completely untouched - every dollar, every card, everything exactly as I'd left it. It had been there for over a month. In today's world, this level of honesty and integrity is truly incredible. These are exceptional people running an exceptional restaurant. Food - Check what you are sending out. It's crazy to have received a piece of an un-refrigerated days old piece of fish in the middle of a Chirashi; smell took over the whole plate and made other pieces of fish difficult to eat. Essentially, a very pricey bowl of rice. read more

I just found my new go to takeout in brooklyn! This spot had the freshest sushi that travels SO WELL! Takeout sushi can be hit or miss but this one was perfect. My crispy rice was still perfectly crispy, all of the sashimi was still fresh and the rolls stayed perfectly intact. I can't recommend this spot more! i LOVED the salmon carpaccio. The flavor was unreal. I also loved the samurai bites and the sushi deluxe plate. They gave scallop and ikura which isn't usually on the sushi plate and it was amazing. I come here with my teenage kids and my parents a lot and every time we lose count of how many times we say "This is so good" .. Their fish is super fresh, the appetizers and rolls are so creative, so delicate and really a step up from the usual. I'm even impressed with the variety of Ramen they have with very flavorful but not fatty, ​heavy tasting broth. I highly, highly recommend Katana. read more

I wouldn't have known about it if I didn't happen to walk by but what a treat! The best tuna I've ever had hands down.

Ordered three times from this sushi restaurant. The first two times the sushi was excellent. Omakase-quality, well-prepared, and worth the steep price. The third time (tonight) was one of the worst sushi meals I've had in a long time. The sushi dinner assortment had no less than four pieces of very unappetizing tuna (not really much on an assortment), and the rest of the fish was alarmingly bad as well. A lot of it seemed not-fresh or tasteless, which was reinforced by the overuse of sauces and garnishes (including too much jalapeno) to cover up the horrible taste and texture. The rice was poorly prepared, so that even the eel-avocado role that I got was hard to swallow. I'm incredibly disappointed because i thought we had found our new neighborhood sushi place. But for the money they charge (and the absence of other perks, like soup or salad), the quality should be consistent, and tonight was just bad all around. We also noticed that aspects of their menu had changed, which makes me wonder if there has been a change in management or a new chef or something. So disappointing. read more
