So for a Japanese/ Korean restaurant I thought this was very good. Not sure what to expect when I read the reviews. I had been here years and years ago. One of my favorites in the S Peninsula in Mt View had closed, so a friend and his GF took me here. The overall experience was great. Friendly staff and servers and it was clean. The Bento Box that I had was most excellent with a twist of this Korean Beef Dish that I picked. I most certainly will come back. Thank you.

Stellar from top to bottom. Very good quality seafood. Spicy tuna roll was huge. Teriyaki Alambo was perfectly cooked. Edamame's we're done well. Service is superb here. Huge bento box for lunch for only $22 including soup and salad. The ambiance is so relaxing. Reminds me of being in Japan wherefbe food is not so salty.

Food was pretty yummy, however the portions are just really small for the price. Service was great!

As always do enjoy going to Mikado especially for the lunch bento box special. Today was no exception , as always can get a seat right away with friendly service ( note this is a smaller establishment and not adjustable tables so for large crowds it is limited ). Today was teriyaki chicken , avocado roll and gyoza , yes not so traditional but good quick lunch. Environment is nice , little bit older inside but well kept up and overall good selection of sushi , noodle etc. if in Los Altos give it a try and see what you think

Roten lettuce, the fried calamari looked like a big portion, but inside the batter is a dry small peace of calamari, not fresh at all.

Unfortunately the food is not fresh I got a roten lettuce. The fried calamari looked like a big portion, but inside the batter is a dry small flavorless peace of calamari, not fresh at all. I asked it to go but I didn't get the sauces, utensils, napkins. Very disappointed

Bad food all around. Not authentic. Miso soup was tasteless, seafood was not fresh, chicken was blend.

The timing of each course was perfect. Even though the chef was also making nigiri for a table of 4, my husband and I never had to wait very long between each piece. One of our most memorable bites was the A5 wagyu. It's grilled on a Japanese charcoal which added a nice smokey flavor to the juicy pieces of wagyu. The kisu tempura was also very delicious and as always, the nigiri's were *chefs kiss*. Each piece of nigiri was perfectly seasoned and incredibly well balanced. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Roll and Miso soup, both to go. The order was ready within 15 minutes and before I got there. I went there on a Sunday evening around 5pm and the place was not full. It is a bit confusign to find, it is on a small street behind Co-America Bank and situated in a strip mall, there is plenty of parking. They had a 2 for 1 specials and so I got 2 orders of the Shrimp Tempura Roll for the price fo one and I was shocked at how small the quantity was, you get 6 pieces with an order for $12.95, see attached photo. I was greeted when I walked in and was attended to immediately. The interior is welcoming and you walk into restaurant with the chefs preparing the sushi to the left and seating in front of them and several tables. There is no outside seating. Not only was the portion small but the shrimp part was tiny, it was mostly rice and not very tasty. The Miso Soup was hot and satisfying. It cost $2.99 You have to ask for utensils, they do not provide automatically and I appreciate that. I might give this another try if I am in the area but I would prefer to check out other sushi places and see how the quantity and prices compare.

It just happened to be today that we got to go visit one and I was pleasantly surprised. From the quality and speed of the food to the prompt service, my visit exceeded my expectations. I would say their food is 3.5 star but I rounded it up to 4 star because we got some really good service that went beyond our expectation + their dinner combo has really good portion. My husband ordered Shioyaki Saba (grilled Mackerel) + chicken karage (fried chicken, Japanese style). I had the 8 pc sashimi + beef teriyaki. We ordered two orders of tekka maki rolls, 1 kids' chicken teriyaki plate, and agedashi tofu. We thought we might need to add more food but end up we were so stuff by the end of the dinner. At first I thought the dinner combo would come in a bento tray. But no, each item was served in their own plate. The grilled Mackerel is the largest portion we have ever seen in the SF Bay Area. Husband got two filets on the plate. The bigger piece was as long as his lower arm (!). The second piece was like 75% of the bigger piece. He said the portion is like 5x more than neighborhood restaurants up in SF as one of the 2 items in a dinner combo/bento box combo. The chicken karage was like 10 pc in the bowl. He had to share with the kids. My beef teriyaki was like 2 thinly sliced steak. It's a very generous portion - except the rice. The rice is 1 scope of rice (think of Hawaiian BBQ scopes of rice). For those who watch out their rice intake/blood sugar, it's nice to keep it moderate. Oh, and the 8 pc of sashimi - they are on the thicker side - each bite is very satisfying. Oh, and the generous portion extended to the kid's chicken teriyaki plate. Basically it's the same entree plate as the grown up dinner combo, but minus the 2nd item, the soup, the salad, and probably 25% less protein (comparing to my beef teriyaki). But it's still a very generous portion for a child. From our experience, I would say skip their agadashi tofu. We ordered one and honestly it was disappointed. Their fried chicken was pretty good but the fried tofu, frankly, did not deliver. The coating was a bit off. The crunch from crushed almond (?) just did not work for me. Service, I was shocked by the attentive service. Frankly, I don't expect much in a neighborhood casual restaurant. As long as the staffs are polite, get our order right, serve us food, we would be very happy about it. But they went beyond our expectation. The sushi chef gave us the wrong roll (gave us salmon roll instead of tuna roll). The server immediately fixed it for us when I pointed it out. But my biggest surprise was the second incident - my son dropped one of his chopstick on the floor. As he picked up on the floor and before we raised our hand to ask for a new pair of chopstick, another server brought us a pair already (!) This is not a place that you would make a special trip. But I definitely think this is a lovely spot-on neighborhood gem for those who live near MV downtown. I see myself coming to this place on a weekly basis if I were still living in MV. If I ever come back again, I will definitely give their sushi rolls a try for sure!
