Great service and very kid friendly! Love their kids menu! It's a very cute bento box with nice cream. Rolls were good. Spacious tables and there are a couple TVs with the World Cup on!

We came here on a Saturday evening after visiting the Christkindl Market in downtown Mountain View, since it was tough to find a spot for dinner. We usually go to Sushi Tomi, but had heard this place was a better value, so we decided to give it a try. Service was a bit slow--it took a while for our rolls to come out, and the restaurant seemed pretty backed up that night, likely due to the event. We ordered udon soup, miso soup, a salad, and a couple of rolls (Sex on the Mountain and Goku) to share. Everything tasted fresh and was pretty good overall, though we preferred the Sex on the Mountain roll.

Placed a pick up order online, and when i got there 35 minutes had already passed from the time i ordered it, and it still wasnt ready. I asked the front guy and when he checked, they hadnt even started preparing it. I ordered it for pick up so itd be ready when i get there but still ended up waiting so long. And the chicken they gave me was burnt tasted really bitter! Such a of waste of time and money!

Was hungry after the movies in so decided to grab a bite in downtown MV. It's been a bit since we've been and there was no shortage of restaurants to choose from. Being that it's been hot sushi seemed the right choice. Buy so many to choose from so we decided to check some out and this was the first on the list it was easy to get to looked full but no line and there parking spot around corner!. We were seated right away and e joyed our meal. Prices are reasonable service was fast bento box at $20 is best deal hands down- we got gyoza 6! Pieces salmon and katsu soup salad rice and even a little Mac salad which we cold have eaten more of! Rolls were fresh and we can't wait to go bank. Nice to be able to have a sushi meal that doesn't break the bank!

Kakaroto is typically busy on weekends for both lunch and dinner. My partner and I have visited twice, once for dinner and recently for lunch. We waited about 20 minutes for dinner, but for lunch, we arrived after the rush and were seated immediately. The staff is friendly, although it usually takes some time for a waiter to assist us, both during lunch and dinner. FOOD Our experience is limited to their sushi, which is always made fresh. It's tasty and enjoyable! Solid sushi spot.

I will NEVER not want Kakaroto. I almost don't wanna write this review and try to gatekeep because the wait times are already long enough!! But I don't do that, so here we are. Kakaroto is our go-to spot when we want rolls -- they're well constructed, have unique flavor combinations, and did I mention reasonably priced? Service is kinda hit or miss depending on how busy they are, but the food is so good! The fish is fresh and the rolls don't fall apart when you pick them up. They're also not stingy with the fish to rice ratio. I recommend the Goku, Broly, and Sex on the Mountain rolls. Can't go wrong with any of those. If Kakaroto has 0 fans, I'm dead.

I came here with my friend for a late night dinner and The food was absolutely delicious, filling and fresh, I especially loved their California rolls and sashimi, their ribs were great and their drink sweet perfect temperature! I will also say all their food is incredibly easy on the stomach. The place was lively, pretty packed yet quiet and happy ambiance. The service was superb, they were welcoming and immediately welcomed us in and sat us down they gave us everything we asked for even sugar for our tea. Overall a very nice place definitely recommend!! Also their beef ribs are super tasty I ended up taking left overs and had food for 2 days. Instagram/@Mrs.arielmichaelisofficial

Bento with pork tonkatsu and saba

Located in Downtown Mountain View, the nearby parking lot was filled and had to park in the garage. There's a lot of seating indoors. Noise level is average. Bento with pork tonkatsu and saba (4/5): the tonkatsu was so crispy albeit a bit dry. The sauce helped though. The saba was delicious. It had a nice grilled flavor and was soft. Tap to pay is not accepted. Overall, Kakaroto is a great Japanese restaurant. Food is delicious and staff are good.

I ordered takeout from here recently, and overall it was just alright. It somewhat satisfied the sushi craving, but none of the rolls really blew my mind. One of the first things I noticed was that the rolls were noticeably smaller than what you might find at other sushi restaurants. I also found that several rolls weren't fully described on the menu-- from unlisted toppings (green onion, cod roe, sesame seeds, tempura flakes, etc.) to not mentioning that certain fish would be cooked (like the white tuna in the Snow White roll). Sadly, I do have have some "notes:" * Lion King Roll: Not as flavorful or saucy as versions I've had elsewhere, so the salmon on top came across a little dry. * Snow White Roll: The crab mix was tasty, but I was disappointed that the white tuna was cooked since the menu didn't specify that. The garlic sauce was also milder than expected. * Poseidon Roll: Beautiful presentation and lots of different flavors, but I don't think the high price point is justified. Roll came with seaweed salad and tempura flakes on top, which weren't mentioned on the menu. * Gohan Roll: Had much more cooked salmon than crab, and reminded me a bit of grocery store sushi. * Sex on a Mountain: This one stood out from the bunch since I love spicy bay scallop and fish-forward rolls. That said, the portion was pretty small-- the restaurant was a little skimpy with both the bay scallop and walnuts and there wasn't even enough to cover the whole roll. The walnuts didn't really add much to the roll though. Not terrible, but probably not a place I'd return.

D2 any three items lunch box bento (mixed tempura, salmon teriyaki, nigiri)
    Jessica H.

Good spot for a classic bento craving! I had the three item combo of mixed tempura, salmon teriyaki, and nigiri. It comes with miso soup, salad, and rice. All the sides were excellent, and the salad dressing hit the spot (I was craving this particular style of dressing, and the veggies were nice and fresh), totally made my day. The salmon teriyaki was perfect, very tender piece and the sauce was delicious. I would definitely get it again. The tempura was ok/good. I would like it even more if they had eggplant or broccoli. The nigiri was buttery, tasty fish. I might have to try a roll next time! For bento, the tonkatsu also looked very good. It was hard to choose which 3 items I wanted most. Great items at a good price. Nice spot with friendly staff.

Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. Parking was available on the street. Dining was available indoors at tables as the sushi counter seemed to be used for storage. Staff seemed to be Korean and some opted to wear a mask while others opted to wear disposable gloves. They had Japanese TV playing which was interesting. Started off with the BBQ ribs dinner and it was delicious. The ribs were fragrant and flavorful. I loved the char that the grill gave. The portion was generous too! The miso soup was watered down and the side salad levered the lettuce core which was more challenging to eat... The dinner also came with a big bowl of rice, which I left as an ornament. The red dragon roll was decent. It was gigantic featuring tempura shrimp on the inside as well as avocado and imitation crab. There was some not very spicy tuna on top as well as some mayo. ~$45/head after tax and gratuity for dinner with plenty of leftovers.

"I absolutely love this sushi spot--it's my go-to any day of the week. The prices are reasonable, especially for sushi and bento boxes, and the fish is always super fresh!

(Overall: A) - Lowkey spot on Castro for casual vibes and Japanese comfort food. Food is reasonable quality with everything you'd expect for your local Japanese restaurant. Would recommend. (Dinner Bento: A) - This is everything I'm looking for in a lowkey dinner bento. Sashimi is reasonably fresh and moist. California roll is large and oozing with creamy crab salad. Chicken teriyaki is tender and succulent. Salad has that fruity and creamy dressing. Our favorites: Eighty-Eight Roll and Kevin's Roll (premium rolls). Each roll has 10 pieces, bigger than usual. - Eighty-Eight Roll: loaded with crab, unagi, avocado, salmon, tuna, cucumber and topped with salmon, avocado, spicy tuna, tobiko, and pine nuts. This is their signature, a very light roll with minimal sauce so that you can focus on the natural flavors of fresh seafood. - Kevin's Roll: equally impressive, wonton crisps make it very unique. Roll was loaded with albacore, hamachi, shrimp, and radish, then top with salmon, avocado, pickled wasabi. We also enjoyed the Hamachi Shot, which had fresh hamachi, avocado, and a quail egg yolk served in a shot glass. Each bite has a rich and creamy taste. For special roll (8-piece), we got: - Ching Ching Roll: salmon, tuna, avocado, topped with crispy powder - Daruma Roll: inside (unagi, hamachi, crab, cucumber), topped with hamachi, avocado, jalapeno, tobiko Both were delicious and fresh as well! Service was quick, our food arrived super fast. We left completely satisfied and will definitely be back to try more items from the menu. I was really hoping this would be a *the* place to go to if I wanted to treat myself to omakase without needing to make a trip. At $290 pp, I felt like the menu is worth it for the ingredients but the chef wasn't always able to execute properly. The menu is quite interesting as you get some unique pieces like octopus mouth, but when we had it, it felt a bit chewy. But overall, the menu felt special and there were a lot of bites we enjoyed! Most omakases follow a usual rhythm, and I was definitely surprised here as some pieces were less predictable. We got the five sake sampler and all the sakes were very good! I wish it was more of a pairing style though. I think it would have elevated the experience more if the waiter had shared what kind of bites each sake goes well with. The atmosphere was beautiful and calming - it's what I would expect at an omakase. The service was good but there were times when the waitress collected my plates while I was mid-bite. With only 8 guests total at a time, the quiet atmosphere made for a perfect experience for casual networking. The food itself was also impressive. Although this was my first omakase experience, I have had a handful of sushi dinners before, and this was the best (although a bit pricey). Each plate was a great bite, and there were more than enough plates. Perhaps most impressive of all was the support staff. They took care of everything I would normally expect (opening doors, refilling drinks, clearing plates), but they did so with such grace and consistency that I hardly noticed they were there at all. In my view, that alone added substantially to the overall experience.
