6/3/2025 Mikado 161 Main St. Los Altos, CA 94022 I was walking and exploring DT Los Altos on an early Tuesday evening and stumbled on this somewhat hidden place (obscured by vegetation). I am more of a Bento Box and Entree over sushi guy and they had a strong menu of these selections. Parking in the surrounding city lots was ample but gets tight during high lunch and dinner times. It's a long and narrow clean contemporary booth and sushi bar setup. I was seated promptly and ordered the Calamari Tempura Dinner. The okay salad and above average Miso soup were brought promptly. The squid consisted of long tubes with a crunchy panko breading, no tentacles. This was very tender, indicating the cook knows not to overcook it and turn it into rubber. The accompanying tartar sauce was okay but I would prefer a spicy cocktail sauce. If you like long squid tubes, this place is for you, it's kind of unique. Service was good, obvious attention to detail and worth a repeat for other entrees.

So for a Japanese/ Korean restaurant I thought this was very good. Not sure what to expect when I read the reviews. I had been here years and years ago. One of my favorites in the S Peninsula in Mt View had closed, so a friend and his GF took me here. The overall experience was great. Friendly staff and servers and it was clean. The Bento Box that I had was most excellent with a twist of this Korean Beef Dish that I picked. I most certainly will come back. Thank you.

Stellar from top to bottom. Very good quality seafood. Spicy tuna roll was huge. Teriyaki Alambo was perfectly cooked. Edamame's we're done well. Service is superb here. Huge bento box for lunch for only $22 including soup and salad. The ambiance is so relaxing. Reminds me of being in Japan wherefbe food is not so salty.

Food was pretty yummy, however the portions are just really small for the price. Service was great!

As always do enjoy going to Mikado especially for the lunch bento box special. Today was no exception , as always can get a seat right away with friendly service ( note this is a smaller establishment and not adjustable tables so for large crowds it is limited ). Today was teriyaki chicken , avocado roll and gyoza , yes not so traditional but good quick lunch. Environment is nice , little bit older inside but well kept up and overall good selection of sushi , noodle etc. if in Los Altos give it a try and see what you think

Roten lettuce, the fried calamari looked like a big portion, but inside the batter is a dry small peace of calamari, not fresh at all.

Unfortunately the food is not fresh I got a roten lettuce. The fried calamari looked like a big portion, but inside the batter is a dry small flavorless peace of calamari, not fresh at all. I asked it to go but I didn't get the sauces, utensils, napkins. Very disappointed

I got the veggie dumpling tofu soup at medium spice and it was amazingly flavorful. The soups come out PIPING HOT, the bowls were still sizzling when we got them, and I definitely burned my tongue and the roof of my mouth even after blowing on my spoon for what I thought was a long time. The veggie dumplings inside the soup were also really good, I actually thought for a second when I first took a bite they had accidentally given me meat ones, but I'm pretty sure it was just tofu with a surprisingly meatlike texture. The menu is very vegetarian/vegan friendly, the vegetarian dishes are clearly labelled, and I believe all the vegetarian tofu soups are vegan as long as you don't add egg. Most of the banchan is vegan, except for the kimchi and fish tofu. The banchan I did get to try (cucumber, bean sprout, japchae, potato) were all really good with very distinctive flavors. Meal also comes with purple rice which I enjoyed. The menu is also very kid friendly, my little sister loved the fish tofu soup. The inside is very large and they also have outdoor seating as well. On the wall they have a menu signed by RM of BTS, who I guess came to eat here during the Stanford stop of the tour. In terms of service our main waiter seemed to be in a bit of a bad mood and was not super friendly, but he got the job done lol. However there was a different girl who brought us our banchan and she was really really nice. Overall I would highly recommend!

The banchan is generous with a great variety. Love that you also get a lot of pickled onions and fresh green onions to help cut through the richness of the meats. Ordered the beef tongue - chewy, but superb. If you haven't tried it, order it. Also the wagyu a5 and brisket which were equally delicious. The place does get crowded so reservations seem the best way to go. Fun place for a nice treat to enjoy Korean BBQ

In college, I met many Koreans and befriended some of them and they introduced me to Korean food and more specifically Korean BBQ. In the late 90's and early 2000's, a night of clubbing and drinking would invariably lead us to Koreatown in Mid-Town Manhattan where many KBBQ restaurants were open late into the wee hours of the night and early morning. There my love for Korean BBQ was born, bred, and grew. We've tried many KBBQ spots across the country since then. Some really fancy, some hole in the walls, and tasty, plentiful, and varied banchan and fresh tasty meats were the essential components of a good KBBQ. At 10 Butchers, the food is right up there with some of the best we've had-ever! The banchan is fresh and diverse and the meats are of excellent quality. But what really sets this place apart is the service and ambiance. First, to get a reservation, you have to request one. 10 Butchers will review your request and get back to you with an answer. This is very different and more onerous than just booking a table on Resy, Tock, or OpenTable. And while it can be a bit challenging, when you finally get a reservation, it feels like an invitation to a special event-which it is! Given your table size, you will also be given a time limit. When you see how packed the place is every day of just about every hour, you'll know why. Many come here to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or just to have a special night out. They have semi-private rooms and large tables for bigger groups, as well as booths and intimate tables for couples. I would suggest not filling up on appetizers, we just typically get the Nakji Pajeon (seafood pancake), so you can focus on the star of the show, the meats. As the name suggests and the window to the kitchen shows, this place has some of the best meat around, beautifully marbled and wonderfully presented. The meats are also expertly cooked by the staff to your liking, and the grill is changed every time a new meat is cooked. We particularly like the Wagyu beef tongue, Wagyu brisket, Wagyu chuck flap, pork jowls, and of course the prime bone-in short rib. We also ask for lettuce and rice (additional charges) to make wraps, and the banchan is constantly being filled. Additionally, one other special thing is that unlike a lot of KBBQ places where a hood vent is above you to capture the smoke, the vents here are under the table so you don't come out of the place smelling like your dinner! The atmosphere and vibe of the place is modern but inviting. For Sunnyvale, it is a hopping restaurant reminiscent of the best spots in NY's Koreatown. Request a reservation and hopefully you'll be invited to one of the best KBBQ experiences you'll ever have!

The decor is a little dated. Service was efficient and met expectations. We ordered Wang Mandoo, LA Galbi, and a Cold Noodle Combo. The Wang Mandoo were described as king size boiled dumplings with beef, pork, and kimchi, and the sizes did not disappoint -- indeed very huge, even larger than the mandoo I've had in Korea. The meat was tender and overall very tasty. The LA Galbi came out as large slices of BBQ short ribs and were tender, juicy, and flavorful. The cold noodle combo came with cold noodles in broth plus bulgogi. You can pick other protein but that's what we chose. The cold noodles were refreshing and the noodles were chewy and bouncy. The portions were fairly large. The bulgogi was probably the most disappointing of all the dishes we had. It was tender beef but lacked some bbq flavor. I appreciated the wide variety of Banchans that were brought out to our table. They also gladly refilled the banchans as needed.
