My coworker and I ordered the spicy salmon, salmon avocado, and the spicy tuna. It was very fresh! We liked it a lot and decided to order it again the following week. Honestly, the place did not look as small to me the second time around since I went myself without my kid and the place was empty (it was pretty full that first time around). My only complaint is that they decided to mark up which container had the spicy tuna (I do not eat tuna) but did it incorrectly even though it was very obvious as to which one was the tuna. I went to Mikaku Sushi for dinner and ordered a dancing eel roll (salmon, cucumber with eel, avocado & tobiko) and a salmon Hand-roll. I unfortunately do not have a picture as I thought I had checked in with a picture of the sushi but I didn't actually hit check in so I believe the check in screen timed out. It's okay, the sushi was delicious, the service was attentive and fast. The ambiance is lowkey and great for a quick sushi craving. The sushi tasted fresh as well which I'd say is quite important when eating sushi. I would recommend this sushi restaurant. Japanese food is so expensive in New York City and this place is so affordable and literally slaps. If you're looking for expensive, high end Japanese food, you could find that elsewhere, but this place is just perfect comfort food. Very nice quality, presentation, and everything just tastes super good. I tried the lobster tartar and it was my favorite thing that I ordered. And it came with so much avocado and lettuce. I'd give the place 3.5 stars if I could, because it's just affordable and satisfactory enough to be better than a 3, but not really remarkable to warrant a 4. Ultimately, I think a 4 is a kinder, more accurate rating than a 3 is. The sushi roll (spicy Maki Combo) was a bit ordinary, and we have had much better, but at the same, it is absolutely value for money, as is the bento box. The bento box featured California rolls that disintegrated easily, but nonetheless they were satisfactory. I liked the salmon teriyaki and the shumai. I see a lot of good reviews so I'm guessing this was just an off-night for them. But for what it's worth, it's important to review off-nights so people get a sense of how often this occurs. Every part of the order was not good. Saba Gari Roll: didn't taste fresh. Ate one and tossed the rest. It's possible this wasn't a matter of freshness but just a really horrible flavor profile. Either way, not good enough to eat. Combo A. Chicken Teriyaki: the teriyaki sauce was so gooey, sweet, and honestly disgusting, I opted not to pour it on the chicken at all. Without it, the chicken was obviously bland which is fine. But I did have to spit a piece of twined plastic out of my mouth - and I read some older reviews that complained about hair and other accidental things found in the food. About ten minutes after my last bite, I had stomach upset and am now writing this from the bathroom. Not feeling great. Probably the worst Grubhub experience in a very long time. This place is a hole-in-the-wall, hidden secret. Probably one of the best sushi joints I've been to in Manhattan. This is not one of those modern-upbeat-dark-club-lookalike hangout spots for sushi. It's a traditional small Japanese sushi bar. I'm still in awe that there aren't as many reviews about this place as I expected. Maybe because everyone's into those moderate and dark sushi hangout spots? Beats me. The Fancy Dragon was delicious. Shrimp tempura with fresh eel and avocado? It doesn't get any better than that. Super delectable. The Mango Tango was also as amazing. Lots of mango on top and on the inside, tobiko and shrimp tempura. This place seriously has the ideal rolls everyone dreams of in their rolls, at least in my dreams. Also had the sushi regular and the raw fish sushis were delicate. They were made with fresh fish, and the california rolls are a bit longer than average, but at least the sushi do not taste like the dried rolls other sushi joints have. Of the many sushi joints I've been to, Mikaku is officially on my 'regular to-go to' places. A lot of these sushi places out there are fine, but not everyone can make sushi that well. If you add a little integrity into making it, that's all it takes. The service was great, but the waitress was pretty much inactive since there was barely anyone but us. I don't blame her.
