Outside of the restaurant

This restaurant is the perfect casual sushi dining spot. The staff are super friendly! The space is snug but if you come expecting a laid back intimate experience you won't be disappointed. Came here with my wife and we got a sushi sashimi platter plus beef udon noodles plus crispy rice (all delicious and filling) and a round of lemonades for just over $60! In this neighborhood that's a steal! We'll be back!!

I love this place so much! a cute spot that isn't too busy and has super cheap, yet delicious and high-quality food! I've been 2x and have been treated very nicely by the waitresses every time and seated immediately. The food comes out fairly quick, the place is a hole in the wall vibe but a very cozy interior. Japanese food is so expensive in New York City and this place is so affordable and literally slaps. If you're looking for expensive, high end Japanese food, you could find that elsewhere, but this place is just perfect comfort food. Very nice quality, presentation, and everything just tastes super good. I tried the lobster tartar and it was my favorite thing that I ordered. And it came with so much avocado and lettuce. My friend and I literally cleaned the plate. I also got Unagi bowl which comes with a fair amount of rice and eel. It tasted perfect! Sake is super cheap and I tried it for the first time here! Super nice! my friend got a scallop sushi roll, which had the most tender scallop ever. She also got another sushi and their fish and sashimi is really . I really recommend this place! Cute place to have a dinner or lunch with your friend.

My go to lunch spot. Always quick, easy and great food. Today I had crispy rice, tuna and avo rolls - 10/10

Very rude and poor customer service. Kicked us out for wanting to sit down and try the food before leaving. Missed out on potential money, because we could've bought more.

I've been here several times and it never disappoints. There's never a long wait, and the sushi is always very fresh, making it a great local spot. I often order the Sushi Deluxe, Salmon Boy Set, Eel Boy Set, Spicy Scallop, Avocado Roll, and Eel Avocado Roll. Everything is consistently fresh and delicious! The only thing is that I don't really like tuna as it's a little too fishy for me.

Ordered the platter for two with 10 pieces of sashimi, 10 pieces of sushi, and two rolls, all chef's choice. I got takeout and they came 30 minutes early so I really appreciate that since I was already pretty hungry. The sashimi was decently fresh, which is something I may order again. As a person who also does not like california rolls, I was decently surprised by theirs just because of how creamy the avocado was. One thing that I noticed was that the sashimi and nigiri seemed to have different quality of fish. It seemed like the nigiri was lower quality/did not taste as good as the sashimi. Some of the fish was tough and the tuna nigiri tasted extra fishy (and not in a good way). Overall it was decent for the price that you pay, and I would order again if I just wanted to get sashimi or their rolls.

Great hole in the wall spot. Service was fast and the food was good - especially for being so cheap. They have great lunch specials.

Salmon Teriyaki lunch.

The lunch specials are very good value. Salmon Teri lunch- doesn't come with soup, but very good for $9. We had to order one additional lunch which was two roll lunch ($11.75) that came with soup and salad. Guess we were very hungry. Overall, I would come here again.

Went here for my birthday and enjoyed my experience at this restaurant! Started off with some sake and miso soup, which tasted exactly how they should. Then I decided to get the Natto Ika, it was something new, and it was alright. Not a fan of natto but that's just personal preference, since it has a strong fermented alcohol taste. The chicken udon and sashimi were delicious though. The wait staff checked for vaccination and ID, and they were very attentive to us.

Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box

I'd give the place 3.5 stars if I could, because it's just affordable and satisfactory enough to be better than a 3, but not really remarkable to warrant a 4. Ultimately, I think a 4 is a kinder, more accurate rating than a 3 is. The sushi roll (spicy Maki Combo) was a bit ordinary, and we have had much better, but at the same, it is absolutely value for money, as is the bento box. The bento box featured California rolls that disintegrated easily, but nonetheless they were satisfactory. I liked the salmon teriyaki and the shumai. The beef Udon has some nice beef slices, and makes for a filling dish.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door.

konban is a modern Japanese restaurant that focuses on creative takes on classic comfort dishes,…read moreespecially katsu, noodles, and small plates. We walked into a stylish, energetic space with a menu designed around sharing, making it a good option for a casual dinner or group meal. The interior has a contemporary, lively feel with an open kitchen that adds energy to the room, and the seating is arranged to accommodate both small groups and larger parties comfortably. Instead of sticking strictly to traditional Japanese dishes, the menu mixes familiar flavors with more modern presentations, creating a dining experience that feels both approachable and exploratory. The standout item is the katsu, which is where the restaurant really shines. We ordered the pork loin and tenderloin versions and found the breading crisp while the meat stayed tender and juicy, the crust holding up well without becoming greasy. The mazemen is another highlight, with chewy noodles and a rich sauce that brought a lot of flavor without feeling too heavy, the sauce coating each strand evenly and the toppings adding layers of texture and depth. Beyond those, dishes like the butter scallops, corn ribs, and seafood options added variety and made it worth ordering multiple plates to share. The scallops were well seared with a buttery finish, and the corn ribs offered a smoky, slightly charred flavor that paired well with the richer dishes. The desserts are also a memorable part of the meal. The corn ice cream is one of the more unique items, with a sweet and savory flavor that sounds unusual but works surprisingly well, the sweetness of the corn balanced by a subtle savory note that kept it from feeling cloying. It fits the restaurant's overall approach of taking familiar ingredients and presenting them in a more unexpected way, and the creativity of the dessert menu feels consistent with the rest of the meal. Service and atmosphere add to the experience, with attentive staff and a lively dining room that feels suited for groups. The team checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable, and the open kitchen added a layer of engagement as we watched the dishes come together. Reservations can be difficult to get, especially during busy times, and the small plate format means the best experience comes from ordering several dishes rather than focusing on one entree. The variety across the menu encourages sharing, and the pacing of the meal works well for a longer, more social dinner. konban delivers a well-executed modern Japanese dining experience. While some of the more hyped dishes may not completely live up to expectations, the katsu, noodles, and seafood dishes make it a worthwhile visit. The combination of creativity, quality ingredients, and a lively atmosphere makes it a destination for exploring different flavors and dishes together rather than just ordering one signature item, offering a meal that feels both engaging and satisfying.

The interior is minimalistic with a japanese feel through the zen garden. For drinks my friend and I had the sayonara which I enjoyed, but she thought was too strong. The ube tiramisu was free since we wrote a google review for the restaurant. Everything was delicious and the zucchini was surprisingly good as well. The pork was so tender. the ebi tempura were huge, and the mazemen was thankfully not spicy. However, the scallops could've been more tender and we we were all unimpressed with the ube tiramisu. Overall, I would come back and would definitely recommend konban! Get the corn ribs, zucchini, pork katsu, and corn ice cream! I've taken a lot of friends here over the course of 10 years, and without fail, every one of them has walked out mindblown--and why wouldn't they?! The wait times have gotten better over the years (probably because people are waiting for the restaurant next door), but the food and drinks here are still top-notch. Staff is always great, and they all work so efficiently. I am generally a fan of izakayas, but there are very few that offer plates that are designed to be shareable, and this is one of the reasons the food here is so enjoyable in a small group setting. I am obviously biased and think they can do no wrong, but some of my staples that have stood the test of time: Kimchi cream udon, avocado tofu salad, salmon sashimi tacos, and the kani cream croquettes.
