I came by to try Chance's since we were in the area and I had a just okay drink but my friend loved hers! Black sesame matcha - It tasted like I was mostly drinking black sesame milk with a hint of matcha here and there, I wish the matcha was stronger Coconut water w/ Ube/Pandan Foam - My friend loved this! The foams were delicious and mixed well with the coconut water Overall if I were to come back I would probably get a non-matcha drink or try the double shot to see if anything changes! Service is great and I love the tables they have setup
Got Chance's per a friend's recommendation! She really likes their double pandan matcha latte but I opted for the Pho Spiced Matcha Latte. They have a lot of unique seasonal drinks besides their normal menu. The pho spiced matcha was aromatic and sweet but the matcha could be stronger. The space is really cute inside and they're pup friendly. The photobooth in the back space adds a cute extra touch. They also host community events and pop-ups which I love. It'd be nice to attend if I were in the area.
I had been wanting to check out Chance's Coffee and I was in dire need of caffeine so I scooped up my Pomeranian Kodi and we drove the 3 miles. It was Sunday and I felt utterly blessed by the Universe when I found parking almost right away. This place is right next to The Lafayette so parking is always so hard to come by so be warned. When I got to Chance's there was a pop up too, I ended up ordering the matcha latte with a pandan syrup and pandan cream. I got Kodi a pup cup and then a pastry, I'm not sure how but my total came out to $20 with tip, so it can definitely get pretty pricey. I waited outside with my Kodi and ordered breakfast sandwiches for myself and my husband who was still asleep. They have plenty of outside and indoor seating and I really like the minimal vibes but it was still welcoming nonetheless. They also had a cute photo booth you can pay to take photos with your pups. When my drink came out, I was so excited. The matcha had a great hue to it and you can definitely taste the pandan that was still respectfulness to the matcha flavor. Kodi also devoured his pup cup. I would come back with a friend, everyone is super friendly and the matcha is great.

I was greeted and all my questions were answered so I ordered a Pho cold brew with pho syrup for me and a chances Vietnamese coffee for my wife she likes her drinks a lil sweeter then mine I also grabbed a Cinnamon bun. The coffee was exactly what it said it was it was cold brew with pho notes in it and was quite refreshing my wife enjoyed her coffee she let me sip some it was good and had a great sweetness. The cinnamon bun was cool it was sweet and soft but not really my bag. Great experice parking is not great but doable.
I loved Chance's Vietnamese coffee! The creamy iced coffee is topped with a dual cold foam, pandan and ube. The two flavors of cold foam flavors are sweet and refreshing then followed by the strong rush of coffee. I really like how balance the coffee itself is. It's not overly sweetened with condensed milk to where that's the strongest flavor. I visited in May during AAPI month and got to order from their seasonal menu. I tried the double jasmine matcha which was absolutely delicious. This perfectly crafted latte was made with ceremonial uji matcha, whole milk, housemade jasmine syrup, and housemade jasmine cream. The floral jasmine flavor intertwined with the lightly earthy matcha. Service was super friendly and drinks are made with precision at the coffee bar. There is a cute Photo Booth and al fresco cafe seating outside too.
Cute, pup-themed coffee shop right next to the McDonald's on El Cajon Blvd (almost blinked and missed the entrance!) I ordered a Vietnamese coffee, which was strong and not overly sweet (with hints of a chocolatey flavor!) as well as the Avocado Toast and Desperado Bagel. The toast felt a little one note for me (wish the chili oil were spicier) but the contrast of the chili/scallion/cream cheese on the bagel was perfect. Would order the bagel again. Service is great, ample seating options and a cute little Photo Booth outside!
Came here on a Tuesday morning, and it was pretty calm! Such an adorable minimalistic coffee shop that's dog themed! They have both inside and outside seating, but not too many tables. They have wifi though if you're trying to get work done! I tried the chance's viet coffee and thought it was really good. I LOVED the ube and pandan cold foam and thought it was so unique because I've never seen that combo anywhere else. Not to mention how beautiful the drink was! The coffee itself was soo yummy too, but pretty sweet and VERY strong like typical vietnamese coffee. The matcha was just okay though. We tried the black sesame matcha, and I thought the matcha flavor could definitely be stronger. Overall, a solid spot to get your morning caffeine fix! They also have an adorable photobooth!!
The Chance's Vietnamese coffee tasted pretty good--smooth, flavorful, and what you'd hope for if you like a classic sweet, strong iced coffee. The Pho Cold Brew, on the other hand, was a bit of a miss for me. It was definitely interesting and I could taste the coffee, but I can't say I loved it. It also didn't really hit on the caffeine side, though that might just be me building up a higher tolerance lately. What stood out more than the drinks was the vibe. They had a DJ playing music, which made it feel more like a hangout spot than just a coffee run. Another plus: very dog-friendly and clearly a pro-dog coffee shop. Overall, a decent place to chill and try some creative menu items. I've had stronger coffee elsewhere, but this place might be worth checking out if one's never been.
My family & I came here for a pop-up and got some drinks while we waited. I can tell they're not known for their matcha since it was pretty watered down and the milk or artificial sweeteners overpowered the drinks. I also asked for a double matcha but got a regular matcha latte. While they offered to remake it, they said they would charge the difference so that was a bit of a turn off as it was their mistake. I want to support local viet owned businesses but I can't say I was impressed or that I'd come back. Perhaps if I was in the area & wanted to try their coffee.
Love this spot we stumbled upon on our way out of SD. We both ordered the chances coffee with an ube mochi waffle which was bigger than expected. Was super crowded tho cuz they had a cinnamon roll pop up which I decided not to try cuz they looked overpriced. Come check them out if you're around.
Stop by to grab a drink. Wasn't feeling coffee or matcha but my sister got it and she enjoyed it! I opted for the Lilikoi jasmine green tea - OK YUMMM. It was super refreshing and love the tea leaves they use here! Parking can be alittle tough but the place itself is super cute!
I knew this location as a Serpentine Cider previously, but I'm happy to report that Chance's Coffee is a welcome addition to the neighborhood! Great variety on the menu, dog friendly, and the patio is a relaxing area to enjoy your beverage of choice. Will definitely be trying out more of their menu soon!
Love this legitimately dog friendly cafe! It has an indoor and outdoor area where dogs are allowed to hang out. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was quiet and relaxed atmosphere. The drink selection is something I had never experienced before. They take inspiration from Vietnamese and American coffee styles to create something unique.

I have been to Chance's Coffee twice and will be returning when I get the chance! I am in pursuit of great matcha in sd and Chance's has a lot of matcha options. Both times I have tried items off of the special menu. The first time I had a Jasmine Matcha which was very floral and balanced. The second time I had the peaches n cream (not a matcha) but a white peach tea with peach syrup and cream. Very light refreshing drink for a sunny August day. I need to one day try their permanent menu for their other matcha items. Staff is always so friendly and have let me know that if I don't like my order I can let them know, which I have never needed to do because I've enjoyed all of my drinks! I have only been here on the weekdays and there has consistently been a calm vibe to the place, where I can easily get some work done. Super dog friendly place, they have a nice patio for dogs and humans to hang out in. Photo Booth is located in the back. There always seems to be events and pop ups happening which is so fun and lively, and so community centered. read more

Loved the flavor of the vietnamese coffee combined with the ube and pandan foam - you do not have to choose between the two. Prices are a bit steep, it was $8. Seating available both outside and inside as well as a cute photobooth. Service is great - the team member who took my order actually curated the summer menu featuring peach items. They have super cute merch and are very dog friendly - they sell treats and have a water bowl outside the entrance. read more

I know there are so many coffee spots in San Diego but I think this place is a great addition to north park. They offer such a great space inside and outside and host plenty of events with different groups, especially for pets. The ube and pandas cream tops are worth the addition and the coffee is good and strong. I also tried their savory scone and really liked it. Key recommendation: if you ever pass by they have a photo booth outside that you can stop and grab photos with a friend! read more

Cafe is cute inside! It is clean and also has both indoor and outdoor seating. The employees were so nice and patient. All of the drink offerings sounded amazing. I loved the emphasis on Vietnamese flavors. The drinks are definitely not your average coffee shop and I loved the innovation. I ended up getting Chance's Vietnamese coffee which is supposed to be a pho-flavor inspired Vietnamese coffee. It was delicious but I do with I got more spice/pho spice flavors from the drink. Overall it was yummy and I would love to visit again to try all of the other drinks! read more
I stayed at the Lafayette Hotel next door during my quick stay in San Diego. I needed caffeine after my flight and convinced my teammates to try Chance's Coffee. I saw that it was hot & new at the time and was intrigued by their unique flavor offerings. At the time of our visit (in December), they offered a soft opening menu with pandan latte, pho cold brew, Vietnamese coffee, as well as a few snack items like mochi waffle and Viet coffee cinnamon buns. I regret not trying the snacks! They looked and sounded amazing. For my drink, I opted for the pandan latte. It was slightly sweet and strong. The pandan flavor was on point and not overwhelming at all. The cafe is small, but bright and offers ample seating. The staff was wonderful and patient. I highly recommend Chance's Coffee if you're in the area! read more

I came across this shop's IG profile and decided to stop by today. It is located next to McDonald's off of El Cajon Blvd. Parking can be very tricky in this part of town. The shop is very clean and minimalist, with indoor and outdoor seating available. They offer a minimal selection of drinks and bites, like mocha waffles and pastries. Doggie friends are also welcome to this space, and they even have puppuccinos on the house for them. There was only 1 barista working, taking orders and making the drinks. She was polite and helpful. After i ordered my drink, I went into their outdoor area to take pics in their photo booth (2 strips for $6). Unfortunately, the barista forgot to make my drink since 2 guys ordered after me and kept her preoccupied in conversation for a good 10 mins. She made their drinks right away, and also made the other 3 person's drinks that came if after them. She was very apologetic once I asked her about my drink. I ordered an iced double pandan latte with oat milk, which was pretty good. I'm not sure if I'll stop here again anytime soon. read more

What intrigued me about this cafe was it being dog themed at first. I saw they had unique drinks as well so we decided to check it out. We tried the pho cold brew and Chance' coconut cloud which was coconut water with both pandan and ube foam. The pho cold brew was delicious with subtle pho spice notes with the star anise flavor being most prominent. The coconut cloud drink was refreshing and well balanced too. They have a cute photo booth outside for $6 (2 strips and 3 photos) so we tried it! I was a bit sad that my dog wasn't there to visit this place with us or take photos as I was on a short vacation- he would have loved it. There were lots of owners with pups inside as well. They also had a pop up bakery when we went (as well as some pastries in their case) and I saw that later on in the day they would have a dog adoption event! They seem to have a lot of pop ups as there was a poster stating all the different pop ups for the month. read more
Stopped by Chance's Coffee with a couple friends and had such a great experience. Between the three of us, we tried a pandan latte, an iced latte with pandan, and an iced matcha with ube, and honestly, everything was fantastic. What really stood out is that their pandan and ube flavors are made in-house, which you can definitely taste. The flavors were rich and unique without being overly sweet, which I really appreciate. The shop itself is super cute and a great place to sit and get some work done. Everything felt very clean and well kept, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Overall, such a solid spot with unique drinks - I'd definitely come back to try more. read more

The Pho matcha was so good, I texted my neighbor about it and she went about an hour later to make sure she tried it. She got the latte version and loved it as well. I came in with my dog on a walk, he literally pulled me in through the front door. I was suprised they didn't give him a pup cup based on how dog friendly/themed this spot is. I loved their little patio off to the side, I'd never noticed it was there before walking in! Also a plus, they had several tables inside too. Prices are competitive with the other coffee shops in this part of town. Customer service was friendly. I suggest following them on Instagram because they're always doing collabs with other businesses and local makers which I love! This month they're working with someone who will turn a photo of your dog into latte art, so freakin cute! I'll keep coming back to try their seasonal flavors. read more

As a dog lover/owner, I love the idea/theme of this place. They of course offer pup cups upon request. They had an adoption event going on outside the day we went, and it looks like they have different types of events each month. I had one of their seasonal drinks, and it was good. I would like to go back and try some of their other specialties too. I got a cinnamon bun, which was a little disappointing, as it was kind of dry, but I was happy with my coffee. Overall, the staff was friendly, and it's a nice and bright spot. They have some unique drinks that you won't find elsewhere. There are so many coffee spots in North Park, so standing out can be hard. I feel like they found a good niche. read more
Venturing out for some breakfast when we spotted Chance Coffee. It's a small and unassuming coffee shop on the side of the street next to the Lafayette. It caught our eye when we saw their Vietnamese-influenced menu and we thought "hell yeah let's check it out!". The menu isn't overly complicated so we place the order right away. The staff were patient and friendly, it was a very smooth and friendly interaction. We ordered a double Pandan latte, a black sesame latte, avocado toast and a pandan mochi waffle. They all tasted delicious and the drinks were not too sweet. The mochi waffle was flavorful, it has a satisfying crunch on the outside and a good mochi chewiness in the inside. I liked my toast as it came with scallion oil and chili crisp, it definitely brought avocado toast to another taste bud level. There are many solo customers on their laptops, so it could be too quiet to have conversation at times. We tried to keep quiet but it felt like everyone could still hear our conversation lol. Overall, we liked this coffee shop and will come back to try to their other specialities like the coconut cloud and the pho-infused cold brew. read more
A small coffee shop in North Park that is perfect to stop by if you're visiting the Lafayette Hotel. Parking is limited so you may have to walk a bit, but that's North Park for you. They offer free WiFi and have some chargers if needed. The baristas are friendly and the drinks come out fast! Pandan Latte - A sweeter and less strong version of their vietnamese coffee. The pandan cold foam incorporated really well to balance out the robusta blend! Chance's Vietnamese Coffee - My favorite of the two. The pandan and ube cold foam matched well with the phin brewed coffee's strong flavors. The place itself was really cute with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options! This was the cutest spot and a spot like this was well over due. I came here on a Saturday morning around 8:15am and was able to find street metered parking super easily. The cafe was empty around this time but the employees made it super warm, it shortly got busy afterwards. I stayed here a few hours to study and found it to be a great study place. Has a big outdoor patio and indoor seating. They also have wifi and during the weekend it can get busy so I would suggest not coming to study during peak hours but I can see how studying on a weekday would be a vibe. I personally didn't mind the noise and occasional busyness. I ordered the chance's coffee, which was a Vietnamese coffee with pandan and ube foam. They were both a delight and super pretty. The coffee on the bottom was great too! Comparable to Saigon coffee, which I frequent occasionally as well. They have a variety of pastries too, though I personally didn't order any. They are all vegan I believe and did look delicious! This place is also super dog friendly, with lots of dog friends coming in and out. Can't wait to come back! read more
Finally got to try Chance's during their AAPI heritage celebration with Kaphe Muna and Ming Oun's food. The interior is well designed, with the coffee bar to the left and ample indoor and patio seating. Street parking is available within a few blocks, and the drinks were about $8-10 with tip. If you're in the area, you gotta check out Chance's coffee. Their pandan double latte is so fire! It's got a subtle pandan flavor that goes so well with the coffee. It's not too overpowering and not too sweet. The shop is really clean with some tables inside. The day I went, they had some Korean cream puffs that were also really good. read more
The only con of this place is the parking. It's right next to Lafayette. Just prepare yourself to circle around and if needed pay the meter. Other than that, this place is so cute with really good coffee. There was a line when we went but it went by quickly. It also gives you an opportunity to review their menu. They have one on the glass of the window to the side next to their events. Everything sounded really good and the menu surprised me. I thought this spot might be too similar to Saigon Coffee but their menu is vastly different and showcases what they're good at and what Saigon is good at. We got the Chances Vietnamese Coffee and the flavors of coffee and both foams were distinct and delicious. I can't wait to come back again. The spot is very dog friendly and there was a dog almost at every table outside. If you have a reactive dog like I do, it might not be the most relaxing place since there can be many dogs. They have a cute touch with a photobooth that takes card. Inside there's decent seating and they have merch by the register - stickers, totes, shirts. My partner wanted to grab some caffeine and take a few pictures at their photo booth, so we decided to stop by. The shop itself is very aesthetically pleasing clean white decor with plants placed throughout, giving it a fresh and welcoming vibe. There's a large garage-style window that lets in plenty of natural light, along with a nice outdoor patio area that's perfect for hanging out. I went with the black sesame matcha latte, and my partner got the double matcha latte. Both drinks were great. The black sesame had the nutty flavor I was looking for and paired really well with the matcha. My partner enjoyed her drink as well. Went again recently! This time there was only one worker, but there was no line & plenty of seating available (inside and outside). I ordered the Double Pandan Latte with Whole Milk. This is made with espresso and not their Vietnamese coffee base. I thought it was an interesting consideration to do that, so I decided to try as is first. It was good! I really loved how prominent the pandan flavor was. It reminded me of eating a Vietnamese honeycomb cake aka banh bo nuong. For myself, I think I'd request this double pandan foam/vibe with their VN coffee next time. It wasn't too sweet, which can be a thing for cold foams, thankfully not this one. Something to note: the lid for the double pandan latte kept coming off. It doesn't snap on as great as other lids I've used for plastic cups. I also ordered the Pho Cold Brew, to give it a try. Also, it was for my brother. The drink had a deep depth to it was almost bitter or something for me. The pho spices were a little muddled with the cold brew as the main note I was tasting was star anise. My brother rated it a 5/10. I would not order it again, but their other drinks are def very delicious and I would recommend! (Chance's Vietnamese Coffee & Double Pandan Latte). However, I have had several friends that drank the pho cold brew and enjoyed it, therefore, if it interests you... give it a go! As I mentioned in my last review, the prices are slightly higher ~ so I wouldn't come here as often for coffee. But for special occasions I'd definitely swing by!
