Mike Anderson's BBQ is one of the family's go to place to bring out of towner friends and family! The brisket is particularly impressive, with a perfectly smoky flavor and a tender, juicy texture that pulls apart effortlessly. The sausage is flavorful, with a nice snap, and pairs well with their house-made barbecue sauces, which offer a good balance of tang and sweetness. They offer a lot of delectable sides but the cornbread loaded with cheese as a side is a must try!

Mike Andersen's BBQ House offers a quintessential Texas barbecue experience. The ambiance immediately transports you to a classic Texas setting, with rustic graphics and decor. The setup here is a straight-forward cafeteria-style, where you tell your server what kind of meat and sides you want, and slide your tray to the end where you pay. One cool feature is their self-serve area where you can load up on slaw, onions, and pickles to add to your meal for free. They recently updated their rewards system, but unfortunately, old points from years ago don't transfer over, which may be disappointing for longtime customers like my aunt. The free soft-serve vanilla ice cream and cake cones offered at the end of the meal was a sweet gesture to encourage another visit. The BBQ plate was decent and met my southern food expectations in terms of flavor (smokey BBQ, buttery cheesy grits, and briny sides), the ambiance was very "Texas", and the self-service options for sides were convenient. The price seemed a little high for $18 a plate if I may say so myself for southern BBQ eats. I will say it kept me full all day so that is a plus. The hours are also strange opening at 10am and closing at 2:30pm Monday through Saturday. I most likely will not be back in the UT Southwestern area again as this a one-off visit, but you are more than welcome to give this place a try if you are around and are craving BBQ!

This was a local hotel worker's suggestion. When you walk in it looks like the place is full of memorabilia and cool things to look at. When ordering your food you can see mostly everything in front of you like an assembly line. The food was ok. Not as satisfying as I would've liked for Texas BBQ. The brisket was tender and the chicken was moist and once the bbq sauce and pickles were added it made the sandwiches good. The peach cobbler was not made with enough love and the devilish eggs I did not get a chance to taste because I didn't realize until afterwards that it had meat inside, possibly pork. Overall it's not bad but also not the greatest. The price was also decent we spent about $30.

Sliced brisket sandwich with a jalapeño and cheddar cheese link It was alright, the bread was a bit tough though.

I've eaten here years ago, I won't say how long ago or I would date myself, LOL!! Anywho, I will say that's probably why I never came back, was because it wasn't memorable. I had a work lunch and the majority of the team wanted to eat here, so I had to suck it up and eat here again. Listen, it's definitely not the worse bbq, but it's not the best either. The brisket was a bit dry and the sausage link I had was good. The service was also good. Listen, I believe if you work in the Parkland hospital area, then this is your place to eat lunch because I saw a lot of Parkland employess here yesterday.

Thought we would stop for a quick lunch before our time at the range. Save yourself some time and energy and grab bbq from somewhere else. This is not the place. We both got the 3 meat plate. Brisket, ribs, sausage and 2 sides. I had okra and the dill potato salad. The wife had bbq beans and mustard potato salad that she added some relish too. The Brisket No flavor at all. You can tell it had been sitting as it had oxidized and stiffened up. The Sausage Although the Sausage had a nice snap, again no flavor. The Ribs When I say over smoked and tasted like creosote, plus they don't pull the membrane. I'm sorry, not the best bbq eating experience. The Ambiance Booth and table seating. Situated in the hospital district, I would say they are banking on hungry tired workers who just want something to eat to make it through. The Service It's cafeteria / buffet style. Grab your lunch tray, Mike cuts your meat the sends you on the way to get your sides. No real interactions with customers even after telling them it was our first time. Overall, not a good eating experience. Best thing I had on my plate was the okra. The best interaction was seeing a friend and sister in the faith we had not seen. Clearly we're we're sent here to see her come in.

The first stop was at the pit master to choose the meat and I made sure to tell him it was my first visit. I got a juicy chopped brisket there. The next stop was where I chose my bread (I again mentioned that it was my first visit) and the person there recommended that I get the jalapeño bun and it was really good. It was not too spicy and added a nice flavor to the sandwich. He also suggested the street corn and the macaroni and cheese and I enjoyed those as well. Everyone I spoke to was really nice and helpful throughout my visit. For those sitting in the car trying to decide or others looking for BBQ in the area,my recommendation is go elsewhere. I have a very good reason for this and it's disappointment. Walking in the door into the dining full bar area,we were cheerfully greated by the bartend-ress on protocol. 48 hours into this review and I'm just at 3 paragraphs and deciding how long or not this is going to be. Texas barbecue is so dear to my heart I'm feeling an extensive review coming on. Let me finish this paragraph by mentioning a significant historical fact regarding bbq just a few blocks from here. " The" king of Dallas barbeque started not far from here. In 1935 Red Bryan started a BBQ business and became a legend. Passing the torch to his son Sonny Bryan who solidified the elevated smoking of brisket in Dallas. That era has passed and now.... We have a new movement. With the price of beef, personnel retention, operating expenses,it's gotta be one of the hardest operations in food service. But,Red,Sonny and others did it and the bar is raised for anyone else who expects you to patronize their establishment and pay today's prices. I was very disappointed in the brisket here. I should have taken it back but, wasn't in the mood. While the owners may be connected to Lockhart Texas BBQ royalty, you can't rest on your laurels. Let's give them some time to tweek the operation before we try again. At this time it's a no go.

I follow the chef/owner on Instagram (@kafibbq), and the amount of effort and detail he puts into his craft has resulted in multiple return visits for me. This review is for my latest visit. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Kafi BBQ can be found in a shopping strip in Irving-Valley Ranch. Only opened Friday - Sunday, on my most recent Sunday visit around dinner time, Kafi was packed. The patrons were a great mix of families, BBQ lovers, and those looking for high quality Halal meats. Smoke was in the air. 1 Star. Service - The staff is super friendly and nice. Pro Tip - Go for lunch or before 6 before items are sold out. A few items were sold out on my most recent visit (my fault I arrived at 6:45) and the staff weren't aware of what was available, leading to some confusion, but they were so nice it didn't impact my meal. 1 Star. Food - By now, you've probably read or heard about Kafi's Wagyu Brisket. For me, I love following @kafibbq on Instagram so I can see what Salahodeen is cooking up. On this visit, it was the Brisket Sandwich. First off, the house baked bread roll is soft, but firm enough to hold Kafi's famous brisket on a pile of home made cole slaw and pickles. The result was one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've eaten. The bite was soft, smokey, crunchy, and tart (from the pickles). It was a special, and I'm not sure if Kafi will keep this on the menu, but I hope they do. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's pricey, but it's worth it. While the brisket is great, I suggest you follow them on Instagram to see what's cooking and plan your visit around the specialty items. 1 Star.

Kafi Banana Pudding Saved the Day: Fair BBQ, Premium Prices…read more Kafi BBQ had a few bright spots, but overall the experience did not justify the price point. The standout item was the banana pudding--rich, flavorful, and easily the best thing we ordered. The jalapeño sausage was another highlight, offering great flavor, a nice balance of heat, and the kind of quality I expected from the rest of the meal. Unfortunately, much of the menu fell short. The empanadas were disappointing, with very little meat and an overwhelming amount of cheese. At $9 each, they felt significantly overpriced. The ribs were surprisingly bland and lacked the depth of seasoning and smoke that great barbecue should deliver. The brisket was decent but not memorable. The oxtail had more flavor than the ribs, but it was overly greasy, which detracted from the overall experience. In the end, the food ranged from fair to good, but not at a level that supports the premium prices being charged. Aside from the excellent banana pudding, jalapeño cornbread and jalapeño sausage, there was little that would motivate a return visit. For the cost, there are simply stronger barbecue options in the DFW area.

She is freaking awesome Food: 10/10 honestly my favorite bbq joint. From the meats to the sides and drinks. Community tea, so a nice stringer brew i like! Its rare to find a bbq joint that has delicious sides AND delish meats. Yummmmmm When you order sliced brisket they ask if you want moist (with fat) or lean. The poblano sausage (beef) is so good. Try their HG brisket quesadillas!!!! Brisket heavy and excellent for the price. I love all their sides. My fave is the bacon ranch potato salad. Their mac n cheese is really good but not my go to. Their corn mixed with the mac n cheese or potato salad is yummers too Listen, just do yourself a favor and "treat yo self" to Hurtado's. Dont walk, RUN out the door to get there

The Ranch Potato Salad had the texture of mashed potatoes with Ranch Dressing all over it. "Terrible" They also loose a point for selling Pepsi instead of Coke products. Very overpriced for the amount of food you get. Do not recommend this restaurant.
