Mike Anderson's BBQ is one of the family's go to place to bring out of towner friends and family! The brisket is particularly impressive, with a perfectly smoky flavor and a tender, juicy texture that pulls apart effortlessly. The sausage is flavorful, with a nice snap, and pairs well with their house-made barbecue sauces, which offer a good balance of tang and sweetness. They offer a lot of delectable sides but the cornbread loaded with cheese as a side is a must try!

They have the best BBQ in the Dallas area. Just a stone's throw away from love field airport. The service is fast and all the staff to include the owner is very professional and friendly. Reminds you of what Texas once was. They have southern any conservative decorations. Anyone visiting Dallas need to visit this place

Mike Andersen's BBQ House offers a quintessential Texas barbecue experience. The ambiance immediately transports you to a classic Texas setting, with rustic graphics and decor. The setup here is a straight-forward cafeteria-style, where you tell your server what kind of meat and sides you want, and slide your tray to the end where you pay. One cool feature is their self-serve area where you can load up on slaw, onions, and pickles to add to your meal for free. They recently updated their rewards system, but unfortunately, old points from years ago don't transfer over, which may be disappointing for longtime customers like my aunt. The free soft-serve vanilla ice cream and cake cones offered at the end of the meal was a sweet gesture to encourage another visit. The BBQ plate was decent and met my southern food expectations in terms of flavor (smokey BBQ, buttery cheesy grits, and briny sides), the ambiance was very "Texas", and the self-service options for sides were convenient. The price seemed a little high for $18 a plate if I may say so myself for southern BBQ eats. I will say it kept me full all day so that is a plus. The hours are also strange opening at 10am and closing at 2:30pm Monday through Saturday. I most likely will not be back in the UT Southwestern area again as this a one-off visit, but you are more than welcome to give this place a try if you are around and are craving BBQ!

This was a local hotel worker's suggestion. When you walk in it looks like the place is full of memorabilia and cool things to look at. When ordering your food you can see mostly everything in front of you like an assembly line. The food was ok. Not as satisfying as I would've liked for Texas BBQ. The brisket was tender and the chicken was moist and once the bbq sauce and pickles were added it made the sandwiches good. The peach cobbler was not made with enough love and the devilish eggs I did not get a chance to taste because I didn't realize until afterwards that it had meat inside, possibly pork. Overall it's not bad but also not the greatest. The price was also decent we spent about $30.

I've eaten here years ago, I won't say how long ago or I would date myself, LOL!! Anywho, I will say that's probably why I never came back, was because it wasn't memorable. I had a work lunch and the majority of the team wanted to eat here, so I had to suck it up and eat here again. Listen, it's definitely not the worse bbq, but it's not the best either. The brisket was a bit dry and the sausage link I had was good. The service was also good. Listen, I believe if you work in the Parkland hospital area, then this is your place to eat lunch because I saw a lot of Parkland employess here yesterday.

We ordered from here today for 5 people to be delivered. Others have had their BBQ before but for me it's the first time. They have a huge lists of sides to choose from, ordering was easy and quick, delivery was also pretty quick, did not wait long. Food arrived well packed no issues, all orders were as expected and they did write the names of each order on the lid. I got the dinner plate with 2 sides, Brisket, Ham, Hot Link, Garlic and Cheese Smashed tater tots. Everything was really good, had no issues with the presentation, flavor, and bbq sauce they have. We will definitely order from here again, great food!

Thought we would stop for a quick lunch before our time at the range. Save yourself some time and energy and grab bbq from somewhere else. This is not the place. We both got the 3 meat plate. Brisket, ribs, sausage and 2 sides. I had okra and the dill potato salad. The wife had bbq beans and mustard potato salad that she added some relish too. The Brisket No flavor at all. You can tell it had been sitting as it had oxidized and stiffened up. The Sausage Although the Sausage had a nice snap, again no flavor. The Ribs When I say over smoked and tasted like creosote, plus they don't pull the membrane. I'm sorry, not the best bbq eating experience. The Ambiance Booth and table seating. Situated in the hospital district, I would say they are banking on hungry tired workers who just want something to eat to make it through. The Service It's cafeteria / buffet style. Grab your lunch tray, Mike cuts your meat the sends you on the way to get your sides. No real interactions with customers even after telling them it was our first time. Overall, not a good eating experience. Best thing I had on my plate was the okra. The best interaction was seeing a friend and sister in the faith we had not seen. Clearly we're we're sent here to see her come in.

Everything we ordered was tender, moist, incredibly flavorful, and clearly made with a lot of care. It's not cheap--we spent about $77--but after eating it, I will say it was worth the price. The pastrami brisket was the standout for me. Perfectly seasoned, ridiculously tender, and packed with flavor. The burnt end beans were another must-order--smoky, rich, and loaded with pieces of meat. The beef cheek with chimichurri was also incredible; melt-in-your-mouth tender, with the chimichurri adding the perfect freshness to cut through the richness. Honestly, though, there wasn't a bad thing on the tray. Everything was delicious, from the meats to the sides. You can taste the quality and the time that goes into the food. $77 well spent. Cattleack is absolutely worth the stop, and I'd come back just for that pastrami brisket.

I read about the long lines and the lack of parking, but when I visited, it was maybe an hour before they closed, so I was actually able to find parking right outside the front door, and there was no line. There were also plenty of seating inside. When I got there, they were out of certain items, but that was expected since they are in high demand. Since it was just me, I ordered half a pound of brisket and half a pound of ribs along with a side of mac and cheese. To be honest, it did not live up to its hype. The brisket was a little dry, and for how much they charge per pound, I was expecting more meat than fat. The ribs were my favorite, and the mac and cheese was ok too. I got my order to go, and they only gave me a few sandwich bread slices and like 2 small containers of pickles. I think next time IF i go and IF i happen to be in the area i will try to eat inside that way I can get more of the bread/pickles because i love those on my BBQ.

The vibe in this place is really great. The people are friendly. Downtown Plano is cool. The restaurant and bar area are clean, well-attended, and the food and drink are all good. So why only 3-stars? To be fair, I came here on a weeknight around 6:30pm, which is not the best way to judge a BBQ place. I will try to come back on a Friday at lunch time, and I hope things will be epic. Bottom line, I wasn't blown away by the meats! They were well cooked, but the flavor just didn't impress. The Sause (sorry, I'm a Rudy's loyalist) was tasty, but didn't blow my mind. A nice sweet + smoky flavor that worked better with the Spare Ribs than the Brisket. (Another minot note -- I know a lot of BBQ places eschew Baby Back Ribs for Spare Ribs. Lockhart only does Spare Ribs.) Would I come back? 100% Would I recommend that you go here? 100% I have to say the bartender was terrific, and the pit masters were super friendly, so no dis on the staff. I was just hoping for "oh my god" BBQ and didn't quite get there. Still a great visit.

Then I accidentally parked in the wrong spot while going to get my nails done, looked up, and saw Hurtado. Clearly, lunch was meant to happen! I ordered the three-meat plate with brisket, ribs, and poblano sausage, plus bacon ranch potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and tater tot casserole. I'll admit, I wondered whether all the extras in the sides might be doing too much. Well, after bringing everything home and digging in, I can say it absolutely worked. The ribs were tender and delicious, with great barbecue flavor. The poblano sausage was amazing! I've had jalapeño cheddar sausage before, but this was something different and so good. The brisket had a wonderful smoky flavor, although it wasn't quite as tender as I expected on my first serving. It had cooled down some by the time I got home, and when I reheated it for round two, it was much more tender. Next time, I'll ask whether I can get a leaner cut, just as a personal preference. Now, the sides deserve their own moment. The bacon ranch potato salad had a finely mashed texture, with delicious bacon and green onions on top. Chef's kiss! The macaroni and cheese had spiral pasta, a little jalapeño heat, and such a creamy, delicious sauce. I've never had any quite like it. The tater tot casserole was another winner. It reminded me a little of Cracker Barrel's hash brown casserole, but with a smoky, bacon-like flavor and a much finer potato texture. My first thought was, "Is this cauliflower?" It wasn't--it was just a different texture than I expected, and oh my goodness, it was good. Even the bread had that sweet, Hawaiian-style taste that I love. I'm picky about barbecue sauce, so I wasn't sure what to expect there either. This one was sweet with a hint of Tex mex flavor and a little something different in the seasoning that worked so well with the barbecue. I loved it. The portions were generous, especially the sides, and my takeout container was full of meat and two slices of bread. Service was quick, too. My food came out about five minutes after I sat down, and they offered me water while I waited. I went in hoping the food would live up to everything I'd heard, and it was even better than I imagined. Everything had its own flavor, and it all came together so well. Now I'm thinking about that meal and already looking forward to going back!

My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - I love the Dallas Farmer's Market, and Hurtado is the perfect restaurant to occupy this space. There is a line that steadily moves, nice outdoor and indoor seating, and if you walk towards the back you can see all the smokers. If you visit on a weekend, try to arrive before noon to avoid long lines. 1 Star. Service - You place your order, take a number, and your order is brought out to you. While you don't get to see the staff cut your meat in front of you, they are very fast and efficient. There are also Hurtado staff who will clear plates off your table. Great people here. 1 Star. Food - I came for the Birria tacos. Hurtado uses their smoked brisket, which shredded and paired will all things that make Hurtado special - Mexico flavors (cilantro, onions, and that beefy consommé). I also ordered a two-meat plate with brisket and bacon burnt ends. The brisket is great (and well represented in many Yelp reviews). On this visit, the bacon burnt ends stole the spotlight. A well-seasoned and smoked pork belly cube will melt in your mouth. I washed down my meal with the Tres Leches Banana Pudding and ended an incredible meal. One last very important note, Hurtado is a great value. My two tacos, 2 meat plate, and desert were $50. P.S. I split this meal with my son. I love food but I'm not a glutton. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I've been to the OG Hurtado in Arlington, the one at Globe Life Field, but the location in the Dallas Farmers Market is my favorite of them all. Yes, I will be back! 1 Star.
