this is great solid BBQ and its owners are well worth supporting. Plates are competitive with most chain BBQ restaurants however.. if u just want to go in and pick up a couple sides. we bought a large side of okra and fries and it cost us 20 dollars.. Considering they were frozen fries and frozen okra to begin with i could have bought that a lot cheaper at the store. read more

I have bought both lunch and dinner from slabs before. I have even ordered catering from slabs. We just needed the sandwiches. We had the chips and the drink for an event nearby. They staggered the deliveries that we picked up so that the food would be warm and fresh. Everybody was very satisfied with the sandwiches. This is not a fancy restaurant there are no visible amenities besides good hot food. The location near interstate 30 and on Galloway Avenue is extremely convenient for a lot of the people that pass this way going home. read more

Potato salad was from Sam's or Costco the potato chunks were half raw, the beans were straight from the can, very similar to Bushes original beans. Not even doctored. The coleslaw I couldn't decide if it was made in house. The bbq sauce was mostly vinegar and had a weird texture. The people were excellent, personable couldn't do enough for you. Too many corners cut to make the job easy. Reflects in the product. As a caterer of many Bbq a few tweaks and the whole meal would be vastly improved. read more

Went to Slabs to kill some time and try out a place I'd never been before. Saw reviews and got curious! The service is the best around, probably one of the best customer service experiences I've had ever. As said before, went to kill time so that I could wait out a bit of my commute. However, didn't know there was nowhere to dine inside! Being 100+ degrees outside, I did not want to have to wait out my commute in my car. Asked the guys working if they knew of any parks or seating where I could eat, and they offered me a chair! Honestly good vibes while I was sitting and eating. One of the guys working offered me water with my food (got a half rack of ribs, delicious! Soaked in a bunch of delicious BBQ sauce! Very tender, flavorful), and when I showed him that I'd brought my own water bottle offered to put some ice in it. Very, very thoughtful. Hands down, amazing food, chill atmosphere, and EXCELLENT customer service. I will be coming again even though it's a bit out of my normal way. I went looking for a small mom-and-pop barbecue place, and definitely found it at Slab's. The three folks working there were certainly friendly & had obviously been around one another for a long time. There were very hospitable, offering samples of brisket, sausage, and their barbecue sauce without me even asking. This is a "to go" only place, and the prices are very reasonable, especially when compared to other, better known 'que joints. My order: Two meats (brisket & sausage). Sides: Beans, okra, and banana pudding. How was it? The brisket was just OK, with no evidence of bark or burnt ends. It was moist enough, but there wasn't a lot of smoke present. There was definitely some...just not a lot. The sausage was pretty standard. I asked for extra sauce but didn't receive any. The meat was served with 2 slices of white sandwich bread. The sides: The beans were undoubtedly straight from a can with no additions or adornments. The fried okra was good, but also obviously straight from a freezer pack. The banana pudding was solid, however, and obviously homemade. Bottom line: There are better barbecue options in the Dallas region of Texas, but you won't find nicer folks serving it than the family here at Slab's, and that ought to be worth something. 2.5 stars for the food, and a bonus half-star for the hospitality. read more

First and foremost this place was on my radar because I pass it on my way to the mall. I decided to stop and try them out. I had a two meat plate with chopped beef with two sides French fries and baked beans. The chopped beef was extremely greasy, swimming in grease. The sausage was ok. The beans tasted like bushes baked beans and the fries were fresh I had to wait for them. The couple working was nice and worked to get the food out in a timely manner. Slabs is located in a shopping center next to a gas station. The way I came to find this place was I just happened to be putting the customary $5 (back when gas was cheaper) worth of gas in my tank next door. The thick smoke teased me while pumping my gas. I had to go see if the place was on fire or they actually had some decent food. As soon as I walked in, I was overwhelmed with the smokiness everywhere. It's like they were boiling huge pots of Liquid Smoke. But actually they had a wood burning grill that was out in the open. No doors or anything. Not sure how they got this past the strict Mesquite food and safety codes. The white walls were brown and black everywhere from soot and grease accumulating, kind of a turn off. But added to the character I must say. When trying out a new bar b q joint, I like to stick to the safe stuff. So I ordered a chopped beef sandwich, and also got some banana pudding. The chopped beef was very smoky and tender , had them give me the hot meat instead of regular. The meat was wet, just like I like it. The banana pudding was homemade with chunks of Nilla Wafers, real banana's (not Jello banana pudding) and cold from the refrigerator just the way it should be. This is a take out only business, no tables, just two old church chairs and advertisements for small ethnic newspapers and letters. Great food so far, it's been a while though I think it's time for another visit. read more

This is why I love you yelp. Hidden gems...within a 10 minute drive...that have great takeout. The ribs are awesome, as is the fried okra (prepared to order). The owner and staff are extremely accommodating, they make me wish their credit card receipts had a tip line. Sausage and brisket quality varies but ranges from good to almost awesome. The potato salad and beans are a little...generic. I wish they had sweet tea (because I am sure it would be awesome) and ranch (because I like it with okra). I live about 10 minutes away and have been wanting to try Slab's BBQ for a while. So, one Saturday afternoon I drove over and had lunch. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience at all. First off, I read the Yelp reviews so I knew to expect a dive. That's totally fine since I like dives. So long as I don't get stabbed, shot or come down with food poisoning...LOL. That said, I did somehow miss anything about there being no seating. Slab's is completely takeout, which surprised me. Because of that, I ended up ordering a chopped brisket sandwich, side of potato salad and large DP instead of my normal 2-meat platter. All in, it cost me just under $9. I ate in my car out in the parking lot. The brisket was awesome! It was packed into a fresh, super soft bun and had been cooked with a sweet -- but not overpowering -- BBQ sauce. It was "melt in your mouth" good and I really liked it. Portion sizes of the sides are somewhat odd. The "small" is 5-6oz. The "medium" is 16oz and the "large" serving is a jumbo size 32oz. Both the medium and large sides are served in fountain drink cups! Needless to say, I got the small potato salad. I don't know if it was store-bought or homemade, but it was some of the best I've had in a while. It wasn't frozen / hard and was easy to eat with a fork. It had nice, slightly tangy taste. I'm definitely a BBQ snob and Slab's was a good experience for me. I want to try their ribs, sausage and brisket next time. But I'll probably wait 'til the next time I have company and try a full "pickup" meal. If you're in the area I would recommend you stop by and check out them out for yourself. read more

I'm sorry!!! ; ( Really REALLY wanted to like you BBQ and Pork sandwich...But the salty taste was too much. :( I could feel my blood pressure rise with each bite. q_q I'm really sorry Slabbs...but it ended up in the trash. A BBQ sandwich isn't worth getting sick over. My husband had the same thing happen to him. Guess our bodies aren't used too so much sodium. If you have high blood pressure issues or don't normally eat lots of sodium, it's best to avoid the pulled pork BBQ and try another food on the menu! 3 stars because it was the best 3 bites of my life....it hurt so good!!! read more

My first time to Slabs was a great experience. I went a little after lunch on a Monday and there was no line. The place smelled great and looked about as clean as you could get. The gentleman taking my order was very nice and helpful. I got the chopped beef sandwich and potato salad. The beef has a deep, smokey flavor. The sauce is great. Portions are plentiful. I prefer to support smaller business over the local or national chains and this place makes it easy to do so. I'll be back to try everything on the menu. read more
