We had the Cottons when they were open in San Antonio and loved it. After hearing so much about this one, we passed it while driving through town. We walked in and grabbed a table. After sitting there for a few minutes, a waiter came up and asked what we wanted. It's hard to say since we had no menu. I guess your are just supposed to know what they have somehow. Anyway, we both got the combo plates and a brisket sandwich for each of our kids. Nothing was great. Edible, yes. My brisket was decent, but the brisket in the sandwiches was dry. The bbq sauce tastes like tomato sauce. To drink I had this brown water they called "iced tea." If you want good bbq and great service in the Corpus Christi area, go to Silverado Smokehouse. This is probably the best bbq place in Corpus. I've tried several and nothing comes close to this spot. For about 15.00, you can get a 3 meat plate. I usually get double brisket (stringy) and a sausage link. Make sure you ask for stringy brisket, its so much more moist and tastier than the lean. Plates come with beans and trimmings (pickle spear, onion slice, tomato slice, bread and 1/2 a jalapeno. Also includes bbq sauce. The cheese and crackers are also good. Thanks for the FAT!! I have never eaten here. Everyone raves about how good it is. I called to get a price on a pound of brisket, was quoted a lil bit over $13... When I ordered I ended up paying $17. The cashier blamed someone else for that "mistake" and didn't really give a rat's ass what I was quoted. I asked for meat that was not dry and not fatty either, kinda in between. Got it home with grease dripping from the bag. Trimmed off at least 1/4 pound of fat from my pound of "meat". The BBQ sauce tasted like tomato sauce with vinegar, the wife even tasted it, into the trash it went. As an international BBQ cook off judge I have had good, average, excellent and awesome BBQ...but I'm sorry to say, the garbage I had today would not make it out of the first round. Very different from the "Joe Cottons" BBQ (Don't get them mixed up, they're different). Be careful ordering the french fries with brisket, it is bigger than your head, shareable for at least 4 or a meal for at least 2 people. Really good tho, worth the try. My husband and I went at lunch for the first time today. The food was great, service was good, and we'd just agreed we'd be back. Then I walked into the Ladies' Room and the whole experience was ruined. It was disgusting. I've never seen such a mess. On the way home I called and spoke with the manager Tommy. His only response was "I'll check into that." That was a pathetic response to such a huge problem that will require much more than a quick fix. It's been 5yrs since I've had Cotten's BBQ. Little has changed and yet everything is different. The menu and decor are what I remember it to be but the taste is not the same. Our meat were incredibly dry which stringy brisket shouldn't be. The beans were missing some flavor as well. And for the price they charge - the don't even off a complimentary 2nd piece of meat. I really wanted to like Mike Cotten's Barbecue. I grew up going to his grandfather's flagship BBQ restaurant in Robstown. Mike has duplicated Joe Cotten's brisket, ribs and sausage, but his grandfather would be rolling in his grave if he saw the condition of the restaurant. It's a good thing the food was good because the place was FILTHY. I can't believe the health department lets them get away with the conditions we saw there. I'll refrain from describing the ladies' room, because the front of the place was slovenly and dirty. The original Cotten's was spic-and span every time we walked in the place...rustic, yes, but very clean and organized. Maybe the standards are lower when you're in a strip center, but come on guys...clean it up! read more

Probably the best BBQ place in the Calallen/Robstown area. The meat is usually very high quality and their sauce is awesome! A bit pricey but you usually get what you pay for with this place. Could have friendlier people working the take out counter (which is what I usually get since I live around the corner from these guys) but they aren't horrible by any means! read more

We were in the mood for BBQ and ordered delivery. 1st we're thankful they are still open as another option during this craziness. However we were disappointed in a couple things. The brisket came in a huge chunk instead of sliced- we ordered the moist cut and it was extremely dry. It did seem like they must have brushed oil/grease over the outside of it bc the paper was soaked. The ribs were fall off the bone but the seasoning on it wasnt my favorite- not bad just not the combo i like. The sausage seemed like it was days old bc it was hard and dry. The potato salad was good but really really big chunks of potato. My husband poured the bbq sauce on his food and when i saw his plate i asked him if he put salsa on his food. It was a serious question. Some ppl might like this style sauce its just not ours. I gave 3 stars instead of less bc the food was just ok and im wondering if the conditions of the world right now are getting in the way of the execution of the food. I went to cottons while on the road for work, my co-producer, had heard that this place was good, so we where on a mission to find it, and thanks to smart phones it was pretty easy. We sit down and we are asked what we want to drink, drinks are delivered and we are asked what we would like to eat. We ask if we can see a menu, we are then informed that there is no menu. Our server said, "We got brisket, smoked chicken, ribs, and sausage, no matter what you order it will be the same price so, I ordered the smoked chicken and the brisket. When our food was served we realized that not only do they not use menus they also don't use plates. Everything was served on butcher paper. I look down at my meal and it's 1/4 chicken dark meat and one piece of brisket. The brisket was great, the chicken was not, way too dry. I asked if I could have an other piece of brisket to replace the super dry chicken, and it was done. The bill came and for the 3 of us it was around $50. We paid ands left a little hungry, and a little up set about how much the food cost, being that we each only got two pieces of meat. As we were getting back on the road, I decided that it bothered me too much, so I started googling and found out that it was all you can eat bbq, if not all you can eat you were able to at least get seconds.
