The food is phenomenal, the service kind of sucked. Coming in on a Tuesday morning at 10, we were able to get a table around 10:30, though many empty tables. My daughter order a vanilla shake, my husband ordered a chocolate. His came right away in a tall ice cream glass with whipped cream. We asked for my daughters shake three times before it came - 45 minutes later, in a plastic takeaway covered cup. She is 19. The younger waitress brought coffee and plopped it in the middle of the table, spilled one and declared she didn't know who ordered what so figure it out. The waitress also banged our daughters chair going outside at least 5 times, before apologizing. It took around an hour to get our food. It was delicious and almost worth the wait. Disappointed in our second time to Mikes. I know service is hard to find right now. Mikes wasn't extremely busy. It was slowing down towards lunch. I don't get why people are being so unpleasant. Maybe they had a rough morning and were sick of people for breakfast. read more

Judging by the previous yelper's reviews, were we excited to check out this new diner in town! We are big fans of traditional american food, and we also frequent the Maine Diner in wells. Unfortunately, the best things about this place was the host, the side salad, and the free water. Service was absolutely shitty, waitresses were absolutely not happy to be working. Started off with a very long wait, and waitress kept leaving our table before she could finish our order. When we inquired about the brisket special, (how it was cooked, etc.) the owner and waitress briskly said "It's like pot roast"....okay? No dinner rolls when we were supposed to get them, no drinks except water brought to the table, no bacon on our potato skins which came with them, wrong dressing for the salad, almost got a soup we didn't order...and really no warm fuzzy feelings. The meatloaf was okay. Better than most places, but not the best. I hated the gravy. My godfather got the pot roast, meh. We were very unhappy with our meal and when our waitress inquired about how it was, we asked her why we didn't get any rolls. She said it was because she forgot to. Honest answer, but still...she asked if she could make it up to us with a dessert and we declined and said we just wanted to get out of here. She asked us if we were mad at her, and we said that our time here has just not been pleasant. She then said "Well, Sorry." And walked away. No comp, other rude waitresses, and really no sense of caring about the customers. We will stick to the Maine Diner. read more

Mike's Diner is one of the best breakfast places in Southern Maine. They not only have traditional home made hash, but a vegetable version as well that is absolutely delicious. Their omelets are always done to perfection, never overcooked, and perfectly folded around the plentiful ingredients. And I can't forget to mention the homefries, some of the best I've ever had! The service is also outstanding, especially Jackie, who instantly becomes part of your dining group with her pleasant smile, attitude, and overal gregarious personality. She should run a training program for food servers...there would never be a single complaint from a customer again! read more

I stopped here on Sunday afternoon (Memorial Day weekend). Arrived at 1:45 thinking they'd be packed. With beautiful weather maybe people were elsewhere. There's a parking lot out front which was almost full. I sat at the counter. The menu was easy to read, not a huge book like many diners. Reasonable prices. The restaurant is bright, open and clean, even looking into the kitchen. Staff is very friendly. I ordered biscuits with chicken and gravy, which is odd because I'm no fan of sausage gravy. Love this diner. It's clean, bright & friendly. This morning was breakfast with Mom. I went with the lemon ricotta pancakes. Beautiful presentation, drizzled with a light lemon glazing, a dollop of butter and light dusting of powdered sugar. No photos I was too eager to dig in. Great lemony flavor, very tasty. The pancakes are huge, I truly only needed one. Mom had the croissant French toast with fresh blueberries. The French toast was good but the blueberries were not fresh, that was enough of a disappointment to drop a star. Sue is always pleasant with just the right amount of attentiveness. We go back when we're down that way and always enjoy it. read more

I was at their Kennebunk location and when I pulled up the sign said it was open but when I was walking to the door the sign changed to closed. They were supposed to be open till 2:00 And I was there at 1:45. The lady all of sudden told me that there was a problem with the kitchen. And people were still eating then. Seems to discriminate against minors. We get the worst service every time we go. Waiters are short and snappy with us, they only ask us if we need some thing once and Move on. We're repeating customers who leave a 20+ dollar tip each time so it's annoying that they still don't feel that people under 20 and in their 20s are worth their time. This place discriminates against people that are NOT LOCALS ! Sat and waited for our breakfast for 45 minutes and then decided to leave after NOT being served. Waitress kept saying kitchen is backed up. I don't think so! At least 4 parties that came after us were eating their breakfast! We ordered simple:eggs,bacon toast. So that wasn't the issue. Good energy with welcoming service, friendly and attentive server but not overly so. Good cup of coffee. I got the English scramble... egg scramble with sausage and cheddar. I have to tell you that these were probably the best scrambled eggs I've had, perfect texture and flavor. The breakfast potatoes, while decent, should have cooked a bit longer to reach that crisped up goodness. They were a little flat for me but better with pepper, salt (I rarely add salt.), and a dipping puddle of catsup. English muffin was grilled just the way I like it. And it wasn't slatheredwith some 2nd class butter ish, which ruins the bite, and for that, I praise them. Hot bf got a cheese omelette. He enjoyed it, cooked expertly with just the right amount of that melty cheese goodness. He loved the bacon, both taste and doneness; he thought the taters were good. Lots of options. Breakfast all dang day. Reasonable check. Clean bathroom. Easy parking. Great Food, Great Prices, Great Staff! We have been by here a number of times but have never stopped. We were hungry and just looking for something simple. I ordered a Pastrami Reuben (normally I prefer Corned Beef) but this had to be the best Reuben I have ever had. There was a lot of pastrami which tasted wonderful, not salty at all (and I love salt!), fresh bread, and a perfect blend of dressing, cheese and sauerkraut. Absolutely wonderful! Plus the fries were crisp on the outside but soft on the inside. Excellent fries! I could eat here everyday and never get tired....my new favorite restaurant in Maine! read more

Delicious breakfast sandwiches and home fries! We stopped in to grab a gift card for a family member who comes here all the time. Asked if they could make a couple of breakfast sandwiches to go since our dog was in the car. The staff was very happy to help us out :) We got a sausage, egg and cheese and a bacon, egg, and cheese and they were absolutely delicious. The wait staff at Mike's is very friendly and accommodating. The food was surprisingly delectable considering the initial appearance of your average "greasy spoon" diner. The menu selection was great. The garden breakfast sandwich was enormously proportioned with a flavor profile to match. We shared the croissant French toast which was cooked perfectly with a side of amazingly sweet miniature wild blueberries. The whipped cream on the side was a pleasant surprise as well. Worst service stood around for 10 mins and walked passed several times without being spoken too. The teenager at the front looked stressed and had 0 help. I saw several empty tables and still no one sat us. Parking lot had maybe 11 cars in the parking lot. This is the kind of place for folks interested in hearty fare at a modest price. It's fun, it's friendly. I came in for breakfast and had a beautiful fluffy vegetarian omlet with a pile of home fries and a bowl of home made soup. My server, Star, was quick with the coffee and offered a wealth of local gossip along with the fare. I am looking forward to coming back for one of their dinner specials and bringing in a bottle of wine as the drinks are BYOB. read more

This was the most disorganized restaurant we have ever been to Wells Junior the host was cleaning table setting tables answering phones running credit cards there was about 10 empty tables and we waited over 20 minutes people that came in after us were seated she kept saying we were next not a good place to go, As a follow-up to the owner and has reached out four times to try to correct this he has invited us back and we will go back to see that things have changed the post for that review later, we will return soon read more

Service can make or break an experience. Today wasn't very busy but the waitress we had wasn't observant, efficient or personable. Pancakes were ordinary, and dripping with undesired melted butter. It took several additional minutes for the pure maple syrup to show up along with my order of yogurt with fruit and granola. There was a dirty fork at my setting. The waitress did not notice that i had set it on the edge of the table, nor did she take it away. Overall just not a good experience, thus the two stars. May possibly try it again but won't be anxious to return. read more

I was very disappointed with the breakfast we ordered to go. No eggs benedict, had an omelette instead. Ham was chopped into tiny pieces and put on grill to heat. Burned ham and very little cheese. Bread toasted but no butter. Husband had French toast and said had no flavor. Woman on the phone who took my order was short and rude. Lady who handed me the food was short and curt. I went there for the first time , and ordered breakfast. I ordered 2 Eggs scrambled home fries, and a choice of toast for $5.95. I asked if I could substitute the toast for 1 blueberry pancake, and the waitress said that would be extra, and I said yes. The scrambled eggs , and the home fries were cold when I got them. The pancake was great with a good amount of blueberries. I was never approached again for a check in to see how my meal was. I didn't see my waitress around for another cup of coffee, so I asked another waitress and she said sure I'll tell your waitress. No coffee! I asked another waitress, and she said sure, and she stopped my waitress who appeared to get me a cup. Then the last one I asked walked by me with a pot of coffee. Finally my waitress came over with the pot, and poured me a refill. She never asked me how my food was. "Terrible Service". I thought I was on candid camera! I have to say in spite of the lousy service, I can see that I may have hit a bad time for theses folks. I can see that the food maybe real good. I may try it again. read more

We were looking for a good fish and chips dinner and we found a great one at Mike's American Dinner. The waitstaff were all friendly and attentive and the food was outstanding. We ordered the haddock chowder (thick and creamy), fish and chips (lightly battered non-fishy white fillet), coleslaw (fresh and flavorful), French fries and onion rings (hot and crispy) and for dessert hot bread pudding and grapenut pudding with whipped cream. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service was exceptional. We will definitely be going back again and again. Do yourself a favor and try Mike's American Dinner.
