It's very small in there. It's a tight squeeze. Staff is friendly. the wallpaper and atmosphere is outdated. It needs a little sprucing up. The food itself is OK. It's something you could make at home. Would I go back there? Maybe...

Mel's is a must for breakfast in Sanford or any of the surrounding areas. When we camp at bunganut- Mel's for breakfast, when we stay with friends or family in Sanford- Mel's for breakfast. They have two locations but we always prefer the one off of route 4, not Main Street. The service is always spot on, they have a great selection of multiple items. They have pancakes, omelets, specials by the day and week, they have great coffee and they have a muffin of the day. Their food is never bad. Never. They place is painted to look like you're sitting in a raspberry patch on a lake in the mountains. It's beautiful work, done very well. It's cozy and pleasant. I never leave hungry, angry, or displeased. I will recommend them over and over. They are amazing. The fact that they have multiple choices in things like hash browns.... Top tier. They are a smaller place, so there is usually a wait. It's worth it. Always. Check them out !!! PSA: they are not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately but the one on Main Street is!

Having moved to Sanford a few years ago, I had consistently drove by Mel's Raspberry Patch and had put it in my mental list of places to try. One Saturday morning, my partner and I decided that we wanted breakfast, and we figured we would try out Mel's. For starters, the venue is VERY small. There are only about 9 tables, which explains the typical wait of people outside of the establishment come 10am. We were early, so we were able to snag a table right away. Our waitress was very friendly and offered us coffee. Looking around, it was clear that the establishment has it's consistent recurring regulars. Looking at the menu, it has you traditional breakfast staples at a very low price. Options included pancakes, benedicts, french toast, etc. As a heads up, they do not serve any alcohol, so if you are looking for mimosas or bloodies, this is not your place. I ended up ordering a benedict with homefries. There was a good amount of food, especially for the price, however, my hollandaise sauce was broken leaving a grainy texture, and the homefries were lacking flavor/seasoning. If you are looking for a quick, cheap, and alcohol-free breakfast, Mel's is your spot to go. For me, it just missed the mark.

The breakfast is one of the best around! Clean and neat environment, small inside but tables are evenly placed without crowding.

If you find yourself in Sanford, this is a place that is a good find. The menu contains all of the breakfast and lunch standards. Breakfast is available until 2:00 pm, which is when the restaurant closes, so everything on the menu is sold from opening to close. My wife had the waffles ($4.99) and bacon. The bacon was crispy, but the waffles had a softer than usual (for us) texture. I'm not sure if that's normal, or just the batter and cooking that Sweet Memories does. However, it was tasty and she enjoyed it. I ordered the cleverly named "Big Breakfast" (8.89) that included: Three eggs served with two pieces, bacon, two sausages, a half slice a ham with home fries and your choice of toast or an English Muffin. The quality of the food is good and the prices are an amazingly good value. I'm sure that this same meal back home in Minneapolis would be more $15 for the Big Breakfast and $12 for the waffles and bacon. The service was a bit sluggish, but all in all, fine. I would love for a second location to open in Minneapolis, Minnesota, complete with the Sanford, Maine prices.

Staff is always super sweet and fast. The restaurant is always cleaned and well managed. The food…read moreis great for breakfast food. Great prices.

We started the evening with cocktails which were very much to our liking, followed by a delicious appetizer of lobster risotto that we shared. We both ordered the short ribs which were mouthwatering and cooked to perfection that the meat fell off the bone. The servings were enough where we took the bones and whatever meat was left to make a delicious beef soup. Neither one of us were up for dessert but decided to get two to go, which we downed once we got home. And they were both delicious. In closing, I'd be remiss without saying a good word about our server Keila. She was warm, friendly, funny, and very attentive to our table. She made our night to enjoyable! Thanks you Keila ! We look forward to our next visit to The Village Inn soon.

For years, Village Tavern was my favorite restaurant in Southern Maine. That's what makes this…read morereview so difficult to write. If you loved Village Tavern under the previous owners, you should know that the beloved restaurant you remember no longer exists. The name is the same. The esthetic is the same. Some menu items even have the same names. But the experience is not. During our visit, the calamari, salmon, duck, and haddock were all cooked properly, yet each dish was surprisingly bland and forgettable. Many longtime favorites, including the wide selection of side dishes like the broccoli with blue cheese, are gone. This isn't a bad restaurant on its own merits. The problem is that it's trading on the reputation of something that no longer exists. What I find most puzzling is that the new owners kept the Village Tavern name while abandoning so much of what made it successful. When a restaurant has earned decades of loyalty, you would expect new ownership to preserve its strengths. Instead, it feels like they discarded the very things that built its reputation. I left disappointed, but mostly sad. A restaurant I once considered one of the best in Southern Maine is now simply pedestrian and overly priced. Former fans should adjust their expectations accordingly or avoid the disappointment altogether.
