First time coming here and it was absolutely amazing!!! I got the pesto egg sandwich and it was on the absolute best ciabatta bread I've ever had! I realized once I had finished that I had forgotten to take a picture We sat at the bar and the server we had was super sweet! The restaurant was busy from the rush but also had that calm feeling that comes with early mornings before you set out for the day! Love this place so much!! It's all you could hope for in a little diner honestly. The food is hot and fast, the hollandaise sauce is delicious, and they even have a bar so you can get bloody mary's and mimosas. Most importantly, the waitstaff are amazing! HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!!!! This was the best breakfast I have ever had, the eggs were incredibly fluffy and cooked to perfection! Decadent dining from a delightful diner, Squaretoe's earned it's five star rating due to the welcoming and accommodating staff, the timely service, and the above average breakfast fare. We inadvertently arrived an hour before closing time and the place was full. Just to make sure I wasn't gonna be "that guy" I checked with the lady at the door to make sure we had time to eat and she says "Oh yeah! Of course, as long as you don't mind waiting 5 minutes or so??" I assured her we didn't and asked if we'd have time to eat without them closing late; "Hey, sweetly, we ain't gonna cut ya off!" Perfect. So after a short wait time we sat down at a table for two and had ice cold drinks and a mug of coffee within seconds. The menu was straightforward and not too crowded so it didn't take long to decide what to order. Without hesitation I opted for the Lobster Benedict; "When in Main...", right? After waiting for what felt like an eternity (I was starving and my wife assured me it had only been 7 or 8 minutes, AND the place WAS full) our food arrived. My wife claims that when my eyes landed on my plate my face lit up like a kid on Christmas. I believe it because damn, it looked immaculate. Tasted better than it looked! The perfectly poached egg atop fresh steamed chunks, and I mean CHUNKS, of lobster, smothered in hollandaise sauce all piled on a toasted English muffin set my tastebuds into overdrive. Maybe not, but this breakfast dish looked as New England to me as biscuits and gravy with a side order of ammo is to the southern U.S. And the home fries? Crispy on the outside and smooth as butter on the inside. A side dish that almost tasted as good as the main course and that's hard to do. The place was clean with overly satisfactory service and a fairly low rumble of murmur from the other patrons. This used to be a great place for locals, I went for decades, but the prices have doubled in the past couple of years, and the food has gone downhill. When you walk in you can see the grill set up like a fast food place now, with a foot high stack of hash browns on the grill - which explains why they were mushy and flavorless. Toast was cold, Portions small. Breakfast was pretty much school cafeteria level - for two of us it was $45 before tip. I knew there was a reason I only saw out of state plates in the parking lot and I didn't run into anyone I know as I usually would - this is just a place now just trying to make a buck off of them. read more

Hands down the best breakfast we had all weekend and probably on the lip of top favs ever. The lobster omelet was FULL of lobster, I mean FULL. The lobster benedict was DELICIOUS! MY husband ordered it. The English muffin is usually so blah when ordering a benedict, but this em was delicious. The hollandaise sauce over the lobster, omg- just so yum. The blueberry pancakes were to die for. The show stopper here was some hashbrown tater tots. Listen, I am not sure what they put in them, but it is very important you order a plate and indulge. I mean, they were really good- like highlight of my trip great. Service was quick and efficient. Once you are done eating, walk around the garden across the street. This review was originally going to be an email to the manager and owner. However, after the owner tried to tell my sister to take down her review, emotionally blackmail, and gaslight her I decided I would like to make this public! :) I have literally never written a negative review anywhere before. We arrived at 9:20am with a party of 5 adults and 2 kids, and were informed it would "be a bit because they have nothing available right now". Totally fine, my mom asked how long it would be. The hostess said about 30 minutes. Not an issue, we went across the street and picked out some treats. Came back just to check in at about 30 minutes later, and was told it would be another 15 minutes, and they still have nothing available. That's fine, we see this is a small restaurant. Then, the waitress behind us piped in and said "yeah, it's gonna be a while...". I ignored that but felt kind of uncomfortable. We should have left at this point in hind sight. We waited outside for about another 25 minutes, and at this point, we really felt ignored and like the hostess didn't care.  We told the hostess that we are leaving, and were informed then that they are getting our table ready right now. We said no thank you, and before we could express our feelings and offer feedback, the 2 hostesses said "okay bye".  I am a manager, and I understand that if a customer is being rude, you just want to get them out and not dig deeper. However, we were not rude at any point, and truly had a bad feeling the second we walked in. We had 2 crazy kiddos with us, and I feel like that was the problem they had with us. I have never felt so disrespected, especially with the two hostesses just ignoring our thoughts on the experience. They explained it is a very small restaurant, and we totally understand that! It is a small place. But we were unheard when we tried to explain that we felt ignored, and that they were frankly rude and annoyed by us the whole 60+ minutes we were waiting.  They were certainly happy that we were leaving as we were clearly a bother. I did ask one of the girls to stop smirking, because it was so disrespectful. Again, as a manager, I am in situations much more serious than a table being available for breakfast. However, I saw a lack of pride and trying to help their customers have a nice experience.  Also, the owner told my sister that she watched and overheard the whole thing happen, but never stepped in? I HIGHLY recommend to the owner and management some communication and emotional intelligence training if having a young staff and telling us we should have asked for an "adult". read more

While a wait can be long in the summer, this is a great spot for breakfast or lunch. The pancakes are huge and outstanding.

A fantastic breakfast stop just beyond (or before, depending on your direction of travel) downtown Kennebunk. The corned beef hash is the star attraction here, and the Irish Omelette is filled with it. I love salty food, so much so that I've often had people give me the side-eye when we eat out together because I really overdo it with the salt shaker. I've cut back significantly for health reasons, but I still allow myself to order one of my sodium-soaked breakfast favorites as a special occasional treat: corned beef hash. Theirs is homemade ("but we offer it canned, too" [who prefers canned?!]) so I ordered the #5 which is corned beef hash with eggs, choice of beans or home fries and toast (they have gluten-free). Surprisingly, for the first time ever, I ate corned beef hash that had waaay too much salt for my liking. My husband ordered it (another salt lover) and he agreed. It's too bad because otherwise I loved the large chunks of beef. The eggs and the gluten-free toast were good. The potatoes were just OK and not crisped. I forgot to request that when ordering. I still give them four stars because it was clean, service was fast and friendly, and my workaround for the wicked salty corned beef was to not salt the rest of my food. read more

Squaretoe's was recommended to us by a local coffeehouse owner down the street and I'm so happy we took her advice. My friend and I were visiting Maine from NJ and were so excited to be eating the local food, specially lobster. We both got the Lobster Benedict. YUMMM. If you've ever been to NJ, you know there is an over abundance of diner/breakfast joints and this breakfast was on par, if not better than any Benedict I've gotten at home. They serve breakfast all day, small diner/restaurant feel and the staff is very polite, professional, and friendly. We ordered the lobster eggs Benedict and it was perfection as I cut into the egg yolks and golden nectar spilled out; the whites were not undercooked one bit, so whoever is in the kitchen poaching the eggs is doing a great job! We also got a side of sausage patties (they also come in links) and they were absolutely delicious! The plates came also came with home fries. Average small New England diner. Clean and well kept, small parking lot but ample free street parking, wheelchair accessible ramp on side of building, and one bathroom. Food was good, definitely recommend the Maine blueberry pancakes which weren't overly sweet. Coffee was mediocre. Service was a bit slow but there was only one waitress when I went and the hostess didn't take any tables which I think is odd considering there was only one waitress. Went for lunch today, and it's a great cozy little restaurant for sandwiches and burgers. It was a reunion of sorts with an "old" friend, and we did not feel rushed at all as we sat and visited for over an hour. I had a tuna melt with cheddar cheese on rye bread and it was chocked full of tuna, the cheese was ample and the tomatoes delicious. Fries too were hot and crispy. My friend started with an onion soup that smelled heavenly (she said it tasted great) and had a hamburger that was cooked to a perfect medium. Service was attentive and good. read more
