Great food , great people, nice and Cozy little diner in the middle of (or is it just outside of?) downtown kennebunk. They're open year round except for a few weekends like thanksgiving, Xmas and sometime in march. Don't miss it.

The options that stood out to us were the French toast and hash browns. The home fries were a bit under, so maybe request extra crispy? As soon as we sat down, coffee was offered (just keep in mind, if you get another drink you still have to pay for the coffee as it is not included). The wait time we were given was extremely off; Instead of a 30 minute wait, it was a little more than an hour, which was disappointing. I feel like this breakfast spot may be a little over hyped, more touristy than a local spot. It may have been an off day, but there wasn't much to remember.

Decadent dining from a delightful diner, Squaretoe's earned it's five star rating due to the welcoming and accommodating staff, the timely service, and the above average breakfast fare. We inadvertently arrived an hour before closing time and the place was full. Just to make sure I wasn't gonna be "that guy" I checked with the lady at the door to make sure we had time to eat and she says "Oh yeah! Of course, as long as you don't mind waiting 5 minutes or so??" I assured her we didn't and asked if we'd have time to eat without them closing late; "Hey, sweetly, we ain't gonna cut ya off!" Perfect. So after a short wait time we sat down at a table for two and had ice cold drinks and a mug of coffee within seconds. The menu was straightforward and not too crowded so it didn't take long to decide what to order. Without hesitation I opted for the Lobster Benedict; "When in Main...", right? After waiting for what felt like an eternity (I was starving and my wife assured me it had only been 7 or 8 minutes, AND the place WAS full) our food arrived. My wife claims that when my eyes landed on my plate my face lit up like a kid on Christmas. I believe it because damn, it looked immaculate. Tasted better than it looked! The perfectly poached egg atop fresh steamed chunks, and I mean CHUNKS, of lobster, smothered in hollandaise sauce all piled on a toasted English muffin set my tastebuds into overdrive. Maybe not, but this breakfast dish looked as New England to me as biscuits and gravy with a side order of ammo is to the southern U.S. And the home fries? Crispy on the outside and smooth as butter on the inside. A side dish that almost tasted as good as the main course and that's hard to do. The place was clean with overly satisfactory service and a fairly low rumble of murmur from the other patrons. Overall an exceptional dining experience that I highly recommend to anyone in the area.

We stopped in after having no luck at the local bakery. Glad we did! We were all pleasantly surprised how good this place was. No frills, no fuss- just low key, good food. The blueberry pancakes were huge and flavorful. Service was slow, but they were busy. We didn't mind since we weren't in a rush. The hostess was friendly and quick to greet us. The inside is small and a bit noisy, but I like to think of it as cozy!

A fantastic breakfast stop just beyond (or before, depending on your direction of travel) downtown Kennebunk. The corned beef hash is the star attraction here, and the Irish Omelette is filled with it. Not a place to dawdle after breakfast because they want to turn the tables over to serve the big crowds.

We started the evening with cocktails which were very much to our liking, followed by a delicious appetizer of lobster risotto that we shared. We both ordered the short ribs which were mouthwatering and cooked to perfection that the meat fell off the bone. The servings were enough where we took the bones and whatever meat was left to make a delicious beef soup. Neither one of us were up for dessert but decided to get two to go, which we downed once we got home. And they were both delicious. In closing, I'd be remiss without saying a good word about our server Keila. She was warm, friendly, funny, and very attentive to our table. She made our night to enjoyable! Thanks you Keila ! We look forward to our next visit to The Village Inn soon.

If you loved Village Tavern under the previous owners, you should know that the beloved restaurant you remember no longer exists. The name is the same. The esthetic is the same. Some menu items even have the same names. But the experience is not. During our visit, the calamari, salmon, duck, and haddock were all cooked properly, yet each dish was surprisingly bland and forgettable. Many longtime favorites, including the wide selection of side dishes like the broccoli with blue cheese, are gone. This isn't a bad restaurant on its own merits. The problem is that it's trading on the reputation of something that no longer exists. What I find most puzzling is that the new owners kept the Village Tavern name while abandoning so much of what made it successful. When a restaurant has earned decades of loyalty, you would expect new ownership to preserve its strengths. Instead, it feels like they discarded the very things that built its reputation. I left disappointed, but mostly sad. A restaurant I once considered one of the best in Southern Maine is now simply pedestrian and overly priced. Former fans should adjust their expectations accordingly or avoid the disappointment altogether.

We made…read morea reservation at The White Barn Inn Restaurant about a month in advance to celebrate my birthday, noting both the occasion and a simple seating request due to my husband's height. Upon arrival, we were initially seated in what felt more like a brightly lit, casual tavern or breakfast room, completely at odds with the refined dining experience we expected. Surrounded by families and very casual attire, it was confusing and frankly off-putting. After asking the host stand, we were eventually moved to the actual dining room, which was beautiful - dim, elegant, and exactly the ambiance we had hoped for. Service throughout the evening was polished and professional, and every dish was plated beautifully. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. While we understand that tasting menus consist of smaller portions, each course, just two or three bites, was entirely forgettable. The flavors lacked balance and subtlety, which is surprising at this price point. The beef tartare in a cigar like wrapper was very mid. One of my early courses was a scallop dish, and the scallops were cooked so poorly they were the rubberiest I've ever had (an immediate red flag in a restaurant of this caliber). My main course, a tenderloin, arrived as an overcooked end piece. After sending it back and requesting rare, it returned slightly less well done, still an end cut, and completely overwhelmed by a salty, heavy red wine demi-glace that tasted more like something from a packet than a refined sauce. It was one of the least appetizing beef dishes I have perhaps ever had. The cheese plate featured Great Hill Blue which some might love but is available at my local Stop & Shop so didn't really knock my socks off, a boring cheddar and a third cheese I can't even recall. At a restaurant of this caliber, I was expecting a much more curated collection of exciting, super, stinky cheeses that one could not find at a chain grocery store. At nearly $700 for two people (with a few drinks and a multi-course menu), the experience simply did not come close to justifying the cost. The following night, we had a $200 dinner at Chez Rosa, the Little French bisto in downtown Kennebunkport. The meal there FAR surpassed this meal in both flavor and execution. Based on our experience--and what seems to be echoed in more recent reviews--the quality of the food here no longer matches its reputation or price point. This was meant to be a special occasion destination, but instead left us feeling frustrated and genuinely let down.
