Honestly, I am disappointed. I was referred to A and G from a family member. My car broke down and I had it towed to A and G sunday night. Talked to them at 8:30 am on Monday and they said they would diagnose the car and give me a call. I hadn't heard from them all day so I called at 4:30 p.m. to get an update. They said that my car wouldn't start and my motor would need to be replaced. I came after hours to get my car towed to another mechanic for a second opinion, and I decided to try and out some coolant in and see if it would start. Well, sure enough, my car started right up. It just seems lazy to me. Everyone was very nice on the phone, but I am overall disappointed. I could have been a life long customer. I'll tell you what, my father has known this family for quite some time. My father has been taking his car to A & G for many years , including my sister, my brother in law, my brother and his kids, and myself. Always relied on the older crew that worked in the shop in the 80's /90's the father, his son, and the uncle experienced and oh so friendly people that you could rely on to get your automotive needs taken care of. Now, it's a different story. It must be an ego thing. I took my Volvo in for a repair that had to do with my radiator, and housing. A hose came apart off the thermostat which I noticed along with my father and brother in law. It leaked coolant everywhere and started to over heat. Had the wagon towed Monday afternoon for repairs. Ended up getting the wagon back on Wednesday. Drove it home no problem, and the next morning drive it to my parents house the next morning. Worked there for a while at the house, no problem occurred till I left my parents house to my friends home in Newport Beach. Right when I pulled to his house, indicator light comes on (coolant level low) go outside and look underneath my car, and there's radiator fluid everywhere. Mind you the repairs cost $368.00, called A & G and mentioned the problem saying "we didn't see any problems or a hose disconnected up top? (Near the thermostat) "we pressure tested it, and it was fine? Bring it in they say, had it towed back to their shop that evening, didn't get it back till Friday afternoon. Cost was $378.00 for a problem overlooked. Problem fixed? Picked up my daughter from school that afternoon after I got my wagon back from A & G , driving south on HWY 1, and all of a sudden the wagon started missing really bad, check engine light went on, huge cloud of smoke blew out of the exhaust, all of a sudden the wagon is blowing smoke and running improper like. $700 and some odd dollars later I've blown a head gasket. My 2008 XC70 AWD wagon ran like a top until A & G got to it. Called them up telling them my problem, their answer, "bring it in" I'm telling you my story is not the only story I have on these clowns. There answer to me for that problem was "you see pressure builds up and can cause that problem " after those clowns fixed the fakin problem?!!!! Over my dead body will I ever take my car for repairs at A & G imports again. They lost not just my business, but my entire family. My father was so up set, knowing the founders of A & G for many years saying they lost our business. This isn't the last you heard from me A & G. You know when there uncle worked there back in the day, he left there for a reason, because of the egotistical punk who runs it now . His name starts with an M. Good day gentlemen. You charged me for your Shite work of $700+ and now my problem will cost anywhere from $1500-3000+. You do shite work because of your inexperience. On certain makes of cars. We have been customers for years, and we have kept our cars for far longer that we would otherwise because of Al and his sons (and his brothers before his sons joined him) - totally honest, reasonable, and professional. Just this week we discovered an additional reason during this covid-19 times: A&G Auto has quickly adopted all the hygiene protocols of the CDC. When we took our car in for repair on March 23rd, all touchable surfaces were wiped down with disinfectant both and after we picked up the car, protecting both customer and employee. Recently however, the warranty has expired and with it the "How are we doing" customer service calls with Q's & concerns about how can we be of better service, blah, blah, blah! Yesterday I took my RDX to A&G, highly recommend by a 10+ yr. customer. I was apprehensive & skeptical but needed to find a trust worthy place. It took just under an hour, (while I had dinner in a familiar place nearby). I need new front brakes within 1month/1000 miles, and referred me to a trust worthy AC place. These guys are great. I've been coming to them for about 10 years with my VW Vanagon, my Mini Cooper and 2 Mazdas. They are always looking for ways to keep the costs down and I've never had a repair done that didn't perform just as they said it would. Everyone that works there is friendly, knowledgeable and honest. As others have pointed out, there have been several times that they've sent me on my way with little or no money spent. My wife deals with them most of the time and they are very patient and courteous when she takes a car in for "making a funny noise". They are hidden a little bit on the east side of Newport Blvd just past 19th St. Look for the Midas Muffler sign and turn into the driveway just before Midas. It's worth the effort. read more

A lot of friends recommended A&G. I've had bad experiences with the vehicles I have brought to them in the past few years. I think they are overloaded and have lost the attention to detail and customer service required to survive in this industry. From misdiagnosing problems, replacing the wrong parts, not calling when the vehicles are ready, and not performing all of the requested services... I can't say I will be back. I've been going to A&G since 1993. I just dropped of my car with horrible squeaky brakes fearing the worst and also requesting the rear license plate light be fixed. Everything was fixed for $16. This day an age it's hard to find businesses you can trust. Not these guys. I always get great work at fair prices with courteous service. This is a great family run business. These guys are the most trustworthy, honest and efficient mechanics I have ever seen in my life. They are simple in their approach, no over selling or under selling, no hard pressure, no false promises and caring yet ever the professional.
