Decided to try Mike's all you can eat crab special during the week at the North location in Pasadena recently. I typically eat crabs once or twice in the summer and mostly towards the end after chartering and catching them myself that I want to support my friend's craving for all you can eat crabs. I will say that a lot of the crabs they brought up were very light and we were picking through them quickly. The sizes range from mostly medium to a few large. They do not offer other sides along with the AYCE crabs so I also ordered their cheese steak egg rolls. They were huge! It's good textures with crispy outside wrapper and inside cheesy & meaty, however not a lot of flavor. We arrived after happy hour so wasn't able to take advantage of that pricing so the $8.75 crushes felt like a good deal. I possibly would go back for happy hour however I wouldn't go back for the ace crabs. I also would go back for the view and I think this is what draws a lot of people in. And when I complain to the waiter and all he did was come over and offer a free beer. The manager didn't even respond to my request. So I sent a free beer back to the manager. This place was awesome! Delicious seafood. We both got the seafood platters. One fried the other grilled. Food was fresh and piping hot. I'm really particular about my crabcakes and I did enjoy it. The food is good. I had potato skins that was stuffed with shrimp and crab. Wing with sweet chili sauce. 1 dozen large crabs $110 The servers were excellent we had party of 15. We sat outside. It was a very nice day. The only issue that my party had was when asked for mayo because they make some mixture for their crabs mayo,mustard, old bay,vinegar. My party was told by management that they don't give out mayo only for sandwiches but we can go next door to the store (which I think they run) and buy some. Always a great time whenever I visit here! Service is great, sitting by the water getting a breeze while listening to live band was just what I needed. Food was good, tried the hamachi fish -was flaky but reminded me of Cod fish, came with fries and pickle. Enough to share so portions were adequate. Ordered a soft crab sandwich, it came with 2 soft crabs one was barely legal and the other was not legal. Ugh! It's only a good sandwich if it requires one soft crab, not 2. I came here for crabs since this location is closer to home, and my past experience on Riva Road had me excited to do it again. Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to my expectations. The all-you-can-eat crabs are only available Wednesday through Saturday, and when we went, the crabs were much smaller than I prefer--just not as satisfying to pick through. There's an automatic 18% gratuity added, which I wouldn't normally mind, but it did make me wonder if that contributed to our server's lack of attentiveness. My friend and I decided to go for the all-you-can-eat crabs. Pull up to the parking lot. It didn't appear to be too crowded. We arrived a little after 7pm. The first thing we see is a sign on the store stating no all-you-can-eat crabs. BID DISAPPOINTMENT. OK so we get past that. I can't remember how much the offered the medium crabs for but, the offered a dozen of large for $100.00 a dozen. Ok so we decided to order the large and an order of the crab dip shrimp. The crabs were a big disappointment as far as size. Some were meaty and some were not. The crab dip shrimp was pretty delicious. I ordered an hybrid crush which had orange and grapefruit in it. I didn't care for that at all. I then ordered a creamsicle crush. It was definitely better than the hybrid crush. Overall the dining experience was ok. The outdoor seating had an amazing view. It was awesome watching the sunset. I did place a carryout order of steamed shrimp, coconut shrimp and the crab cake sandwich with fries that came with a pickle spear. That order was to eat the following day. Now what I can say is I enjoyed all of my carryout food. It was delicious. I even shared with my sister. So, had a hankering for crabs so we went to Mikes North in Pasadena. Hubby doesnt eat crabs so he asked what "market price" was on the Broiled Seafood Combo was. We were told $21.00 by our server, so that is what he got with a salad and fries while I got the AYCE crabs. The server was beyond unattentive. We waited 30 minutes before any food came to the table, then 25 minutes after being seated, Hubby's entre came before his salad - still no crabs. He was 1/2 way thru his salad before seing a live salad bug. Needless to say, waiter was called and salad was sent back. 10 minutes later, he returned with another salad and my crabs. Waiter was almost invisible. We did get 1 drink refill and 1 refill of crabs. Asked for the check and noticed the price on the seafood combo was $38 not $21 as we were told. When we asked, the reply was "hmm, they must have just raised the price - last week it was $21". We asked to speak to a manager - who took forever to come to the table. Her response was "oh no, just the crabcake alone is $21. He is new and today is his 1st day. It has never been that price, sorry. I'll have to talk to him". And walks away to find him. In addition to paying $17 more for a meal than expected, you automatically pay 18% gratuity for the AYCE no matter how bad the service is. Dont get me wrong, Im not asking for anything free, but if you quote me a price, I expect to be charged that price. Nothing was done to resolve the problem. Our nephew, his new bride and his dad took my sister and I here as we were visiting from the West coast. We had a tray of crabs, French fries and nutty buddies for dessert. The place is very busy and in a great location. As busy as they were, we were able to be seated at a table inside right away. Service was great and the atmosphere was pretty cool. Mike's puts cream in their crab cakes, according to the manager on duty when we went. This is not mentioned on the menu. NOT a good thing for folks that can't eat dairy and definitely NOT a Maryland style crab cake. Service was slow and obviously understaffed. It did not meet our expectations, the crab was good, we ordered 1/2 dozen, although we only ate 4 1/2, they served little hot butter and it became hard very quickly, we ordered mahi mahi with crab and the fish had no flavor and was not good I shout out what I can think that they took it out of the freezer and heated it, there was no time to defrost and cook it, there was a need to add salt and lemon to eat the parts that were cooked, I ordered the crab cake and I gave it a 3 for not having good seasoning. They bring you sauces for you to dip but you are paying a very high price not to enjoy and savor the food, it is definitely not something to return to, and the price is overestimated by the experience.
