I came in to Mike's to pick up an order. The restaurant is located inside the same strip mall as Food Lion and some other restaurants and businesses which they share a parking lot. When I approached the restaurant it was people outside dining on the patio and inside. The smells coming from the kitchen were delightful but sadly the service was completely abrasive and spicy. I don't know if it was so busy that the mature Caucasian gentleman (or owner?) that was working the register was increasingly overwhelmed or what, but his attitude was in abundance. While the bagels and style of Mike's is typical of a bagel shop in NYC or Long Island, I was a little frustrated with the service. Typically, in NYC, when you order just a bagel with cream cheese, the person who takes your order will just go ahead and make your bagel (that's the way it was done for the 19 years l lived in NY). It just makes sense. Instead, it was put in with the orders for people who ordered several breakfast bagels. As a result, I waited almost 20 minutes for a bagel with cream cheese. Typically, I just get a dozen bagels and take them home which is what I'll do going forward. It's not a knock on Mike's or the people working there because it's a great place with good bagels. I just wish they would change the process of completing simple orders. read more

The bagels are so yummy ...and anything you add to it is icing on the cake. My go-to is smoked salmon, a fried egg, tomato, cheese, and mayo on a toasted plain bagel. The restaurant is rather small and fills up quickly. But it is well worth the wait! No frills.....good food....what more could you ask for?!? I'm a fan. I was preparing to do my normal weekly grocery shopping and I was reading the ingredients list on the bagels I usually buy. I don't love them, so I decided to look up bagels in the area. I had seen Mike's Deli and Bagels on my way to and from work, but I had thought nothing of it until my hunt for fresh bagels began. My partner in crime and I stopped in to purchase my dozen bagels. We didn't get there until after noon, but they still had a decent variety left. Granted, there was only one chocolate chip bagel left. Yeah, I took it. Sorry! I got a good variety, primarily blueberry, which is my favorite. We then ordered a bagel apiece to eat there. I got the plain bagel, toasted, with lox cream cheese. Guys, smoked salmon is expensive. They did not skimp on it at all. See my picture for proof. We were greeted by three employees when we entered, and while they were busy, they made sure we knew we would be served momentarily. It was not much of a wait before we got our orders in and our food was ready fairly quickly. The trick seems to be ordering breakfast during the lunch rush and vice versa. The place is small. It has your classic mom and pop shop feel to it, so you may not get prime seating if you try to eat here. When we went, the Concord Fire Department was there for lunch--that's another sign that it's good. They took up one large table, there was a small table, and then another large table in front of the small table. We sat at the second large one, as that was the only table left. Not all seats were accessible due to the cramped space. If you keep your expectations realistic that this place is a hidden gem and not built for the amount of business it gets, you'll be fine. read more

Visited NYC recently, then saw a TT about why NY bagels are different. Had to find a place near me to try. A friend knew the place as soon as I mentioned it was in Concord. She said it's the closest they have found to NY. Heard it can be slammed, but mid morning on a rainy Saturday was not bad. Tables were full. Staff was pleasant. We got a plain bagel and a cinnamon raisin bagel, both with plain cream cheese. The bagels weren't as big as ones we've had, but flavor was good! I missed out on the Asiago bagel, so we'll have to stop back in whenever we're in the area. Lots more goodies to try. The muffins looked delicious. read more

I have ordered food from here plenty over the years and never had any complaints. Yesterday however, I ate a 222 with bacon and sausage. Shortly afterwards I became nauseated and vomited the entire sandwich and couldn't keep any food down the rest of the day. Update to my previous review: I've been trying to eat healthier lately, so I've been forgoing my usual Sunday morning bagel fix. Today, though, I ordered lox and scallion cream cheese on an egg everything bagel, with capers and onion, and it was completely worth it. The ratio of ingredients was perfect; just enough smear of cream cheese to balance out the lox. I also ordered my usual on bialy for later, which sounds odd, but it reheats really well. Mike's Deli and Bagels has been a welcome addition to Concord for several years now. Bagels are traditional NY style bagels and very good. There's usually a line waiting on breakfast bagels in the morning and a line in the afternoon waiting on sandwiches. Everything is made to order with fresh ingredients. I suggest you call ahead to place a takeout order. The deli is small with limited seating inside and out front on the sidewalk. I would have given Mike's a 5/5 but prices are a bit high but like I mentioned earlier, everything is fresh and made to order so just be prepared. I have to update my last review because they have really slipped during this pandemic. At the very beginning of the pandemic, they were doing only pick ups, you had to place your order via DoorDash or over the phone. The phone lines were normally very busy or long wait times. Once you got there to pick up, there was a lot of confusion on orders. Cut to the store being open again and the big guy who would occasionally work the register seemed to be allergic to wearing a mask. Hello, PANDEMIC. You are taking orders from people who are wearing masks (I know, mask wearing is a tough pill to swallow for those in Kannapolis but oh well) So I stopped going for a while. I started going back early this year but I noticed the guy who normally handled the cooking seemed to have caught the same allergy to wearing his mask. That same guy mangled my bacon and egg order by leaving out the egg from my sandwich, resulting in a cheese and bacon sandwich. Thankfully, they have another gentleman who I noticed handling the cooking on a Saturday and he seemed to be able to handle cooking and wearing a mask at the same time. Not too bad of a place to have a quick bite to eat! My sons and I stopped by after going to Wings and things realizing they close on Saturday! We wanted sandwiches but I couldn't resist a bagel with the cherry pie cream cheese. We hopped in like around 1125am and went to order. My son wanted a Philly cheesesteak which you can't start ordering hot sandwiches. We had to step aside until 1130am to order.
