Guys did a great job pinpointing the problem with our antique chandelier and had the right parts to fix it on the spot.

I called to get 3 pendent lights replaced. They said it would take 2.5 hours or more, which I doubted as it was fairly straightforward. The guy did it in about an hour, which is what I expected. He asked if I had anything else, and I mentioned that I'd like 2 new outlets on the other side of the wall from an existing g light switch. He said it was quick and easy since the light switches were right there. I asked about the cost and he said it would be quick and it would just be his time. The work was solid. The communication was not. I received a shockingly high bill with additional charges that had not previously been discussed. In effect charged me almost $400 to install those 2 outlets just on the other side of the same wall. No attic, crawlspace, or panel work. I emailed them asking about the high fees and extra charges, she said that was standard for them. I paid the bill and then went to leave a review. I would not have had him do the outlets had I known, and would have ended the job with the pendent lights. When I left a review reflecting this experience, they accused me of trying to convince them to do work without a permit, putting their license in jeopardy. Completely false - I only questioned the permit fees when I received the bill, as no one had mentioned it. The level of customer service, lack of communication, and vindictiveness was shocking. I had Mike's out once because I needed a new disposal and dishwasher outlet. They charged me $1200- fine, as long as the work was done properly. Ended up needing more work done so I got more bids. They ended up charging me $550...for a bid. They left my house after that bid and two of the outlets that worked fine before they came no.longer worked. Haa better electrician out and they let me know the first work Mike's did wasnt to code. For less than the price of all Mike's "help" I got the rest of the work i needed done... permitted and done correctly. They also sent two guys out so I apparently was paying a double rate every hour. Emergency need on house closing was met with professionalism; superior communication and a response that is truly appreciated in this day and age, Started with excellent assessment by dispatcher, full disclosure of rates and charges, possibility that electrician may not become available that day. Later follow up with owner on electrician availability was responded too within minutes. Electrician on site called several times with specific questions and update on the progress of resolving the issue. Result - new owner had full power restored prior to her occupancy - all thanks to Mike's! I was a frequent commercial customer of Mike's decades ago and did not realize the company was still around. I have been using Mike's Electric for about 7 years. I have always had very good service and prompt responses to my inquiries. Yesterday, I needed someone to come and fix smoke alarms that were going on intermittently and for no reason (no smoke or fire). Rob traced my electrical issue, scratched his head, called a colleague, but he did not give up. Instead, he kept looking and tracing and ultimately found a faulty hidden connection that could have resulted in a fire if left unchecked. His predecessor (from a different company that I will never hire again) had billed me several hundred $ for removing a few screws. I will definitely be calling on Mike's Electric for any future electrical or wiring issues. I'm not sure who recommended Mike's Electric to me but if I ever remember I'm going to give them a great big kiss (or a hearty handshake depending upon who it is). I first had Mike's team do some work for us back in 2021 (after having another electrician from another company do not so great work) and I have used them ever since. I cannot say enough good things about them: they show up when they say they will; they do great work; they clean up after themselves; they're polite and respectful of us and our home; they understand what I want and often make recommendations to improve my vision; and they're just delightful to work with. They are also reasonably priced for the excellent work they do; believe me, when it comes to electrical work I want someone who knows what they're doing (some bizarro reviewer stated the average price for an electrician was $45 an hour - they must still be living in the sixties). P.S. I can't understand why this terrific business has such a low overall score and then I discovered that there are a LOT of five-star reviews in Yelp's "not recommended" section - why?!?! read more

Do not, I repeat, do not work with this company. They sent a team to my house based on a bogus claim that we had confirmed the appointment, which I have witnesses for, we did not confirm. They also did not share their cancellation policy. Now, after my refusal to pay this bill, within a day they sent a fraudulent claim to a collection agency. We will not be bullied! Period! So we contacted the better business bureau, the state of Oregon Consumer Protection Department, and the construction board. We are also hiring a consumer protection lawyer to stop this unethical and possibly unlawful behavior. Bad bad bad (prospective) customer service from Mike's Electric. They came out to my house to replace a bathroom fan, and they did great work. They even brought and apprentice out with them who was learning on the job training. I did get charged for the apprentice's time, which I found strange (lots of flashlight holding time). I reached out and asked them to remove the fee and they instead cut it in half. The workers, on the phone, in person, and via email were very polite and helpful. The work also appears quality (I did have to touch up some bathroom paint after they left). Overall I'm not sure how I feel about them, I am a bit torn. It was not a cheap job, however for quality work I am happy to foot the bill. I have them coming back out to finish one thing in my kitchen they didn't have the parts to fix. I will update my review at that time and give them a final star rating. read more

I just received a bill for $204 from Mikes Electric for a stop by of their electrician who did absolutely nothing. Not one thing. Mike's electric came to my home, to change out a floor thermostat. The electrician was gone in less than 15 minutes without so much as touching a tool in a bag. He said that he would not swap out the thermostat for a new model because he felt the wiring required conduit. I asked if he would please just do what he needed to do in order to bring it up to code & feel comfortable-could he put on conduit? He refused, saying he did not want to touch anything because then he would "own it ". Side note, the thermostat which needed to be replaced was Installed as part of a permitted, high-end kitchen remodel done by a well-known Portland contractor, 10 years ago. This was not some kind of do it yourself project. The electrician left without having done a single thing except refusing to do work. Ok, fine. That's not the issue. He's not comfortable, no problem. The issue is having received a bill for $204 for him refusing to do anything. The following day an electrician from a different company came to my home swapped out the thermostat without issue and the bill for him having actually done the work was less than the $204 that Mike's Electric charged to do nothing! I called and spoke to the billing person at Mike's electric and explained the situation. She was resolute in saying that $204 was a reasonable service fee. Really, this is the world we live in? $204 for less than 15 minutes and no service? I offered to pay $50 which I feel is reasonable for a service fee when that person is gone within 15 minutes and did nothing. I cannot say strongly enough that if this is the level of customer service and manner in which they deal with customers I would not recommend nor would I ever use this company. read more

We just had a home inspection and found out they left the OLD fans IN THE CRAWL SPACE. I called the office to find out there protocol is to ask the customer what they want and they will either take them or Leave them with the customer. As well as the previous nightmare, they never asked me, or took them. They were lazy and left them and didnt bother moving the disturbed insulation. Terribly disappointed in this company. Previous review - While the service was good, the billing came in $350 more than we expected. We were never told about the apprentice so we had to pay for both the journeyman and the apprentice. They journeyman wasn't even in the room most the time. We were told that the apprentice was sent to "Save Money", but we still payed for both guys.The apprentice said for an hour that they were almost done. Every time I went up, the journeyman was gone. Plus they fixed a "broken switch" that didnt affect our bathroom fans prior to the work. They never discussed this while they were here nor any other issues. We had an extra fee for screws/bolts etc, a permit (never mentioned), nor having to pay for their drive time. They were here 2 hours and 8 minutes but were charged for 2.5 hours. Good thing I take pictures of them arriving and leaving for time stamps. I feel very nickel and dimed at this point and will not use them again read more

Mike's Electric helped us out when power went out during a recent storm. It was after working hours, but I received a quick response to my request for help. Darryl guided me through some troubleshooting. When that didn't resolve the problem, he directed me to the correct contact at PGE -- all during the late evening from his home. PGE provided a work-around that night, and corrected the problem the next day -- all at no charge to me. Mike's is a company that I am glad to support. If there were six stars, I'd give Mike's that. We've used them consistently to replace light fixtures in our house, and they're consistently careful, meticulous, and precise. They are very responsive and arrive on time. We had a difficult issue with our breakers which left us without WIFI access. Since we were going out of town, we needed prompt service. Other electricians could not provide service quickly. They scheduled us quickly and were able to find the source of the problem and fix it. We feel safer now and are able to monitor our systems remotely without constantly losing access to our WIFI. They also fixed a couple of simpler issues with the house which we had not mentioned on the phone. We were happy with the flexibility and we will use them again. read more

Specifically told them before they scheduled that I had switch issues, and wanted to change 4 bulbs from fluorescent to LED. I told them that I had switches but they said they would have some too. The journeyman they sent said he couldn't do the doorbell, that I should call someone who is used to doing those. He used my switches because he didn't have any and then replaced three switches (alot of time) because one was broken . They charge quite a bit compared to another electrician who came and easily did the work in less than 1.5 hours. The things they did address solved some problems but it took a very long time and it took two people. I didn't get the impression they were very well trained beyond basics. This cost about 50% more than I thought it would and I still had to call an electrician to finish what they couldn't. Wouldn't go with them again. read more

I used Mike's for several small jobs at my home. Their staff is really nice and I thought they were trust worthy. We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and I thought why not use Mikes?? My wife received a verbal quote from the former owner Doug after several calls. He estimated it would take 2 guys 2 hours. Once the crew was on location, the electrician estimated 5 hours for 2 guys. Whoa!!! This was not in my budget but with the counter guys coming the next day I needed the project done. I called Mikes that day and no one got back to me about the drastic increase. Over two weeks, I went back and forth with the owner and staff about how off this was. They said they would email a bill and call me to talk about it. Two weeks later I received a paper bill and then a call from the former owner telling me that he could never quote a job over the phone and he could not decrease the $1,100 because he does not have any authority. My take-away. Use another company. There are numerous listed on Yelp with exceptional reviews. read more

I was skeptical to use Mike's Electric given some of the reviews here (which differ very much from another contractor referral site) but was very pleased with their service to replace my circuit breaker panel. They came to bid on the work (unlike several others who charge to estimate effort) and were very diligent in the work they would perform (including making sure i understood what would be done with things like running a wire to a place in the ground). And they were very responsive in email and phone. When they did the work they were very detailed and thorough. I dont know what the other reviews are based on but I will use them again for their responsiveness and thoroughness. They've earned my business and believe they really good at what they do. While I rarely give 5 star reviews I believe they deserve it based on this great experience. read more

Finally we have found a great company for our electrical jobs. When I called the office to explain the problem, I was told to buy a new light just in case that's what was needed. I did just that so we were totally prepared when the electrician got to our house because that's exactly what we needed. I appreciate they were pro active so no time was wasted in getting the problem fixed. Rob put a new bathroom light in, which he did quickly and kept us informed about what he was doing as well as picked up after himself. Before he left he asked if we had any questions, which was especially nice and something that has never happened with other companies we have hired. We will definitely use Mike's again. I have used Mike's Electric in the past, due to their standing with Angie's List. Their price was always rather high but I was satisfied with the work. Two days ago, I had Mike's electric come out for a short in my porch wiring. Two electricians arrived. A journeyman and an apprentice. I thought that this was unnecessary but thought that, by asking for estimates before the work was done, I would protect myself from an excessive bill. The short was not found but the electricians looked over the likely wire connections and replaced a switch that had loose wiring. Not sure if the problem is solved but was told nothing else could be done. Since the electricians were there, I asked if they could separate a combo light and fan switch in my downstairs bathroom. I also asked if they could give me a quote on fan timers for all three bathrooms. Here is where the problems began. When I asked how much the timers cost, I was originally told $20 but this estimate was later revised to $30 each. I then asked for a total amount for all of their work. The journeyman electrician said it would be between $300 and $340. He even used his pocket calculator to give me the figures. I received a bill the next day for $489. When I called the owner to discuss, he stated that he would need to first talk with the electrician. Today, he called back saying that the electrician said that he quoted me $37 and change for each timer switch. And because they didn't have them on the truck, I was charged another $40 for a stocking fee. Looking at the bill, nothing was itemized but the price was not what I was quoted. The owner basically said that I was the one not telling the truth about the estimate. Wow, that was a surprise. Not only do I no longer trust Mike's Electric for their repair estimates, I absolutely do not trust their employees to state the truth when disputes arise. While it was a rather expensive lesson, I have learned not to use Mike's Electric again. read more

The technician was on time and cleaned up after himself. The work was great. Our bill came in less than originally quoted! I am so glad we called them and we will use them in the future. read more
