Came here for breakfast 2 of 3 mornings while staying at Hollywood Casino. Such a great way to start day. No frills diner with friendly staff. Lots of locals come to get food as well so great reputation in the community.

The food is really good, the options are very similar to a Coney Island. We came in sat down and our orders were taken immediately. I ordered the western omelette that came with grits and toast 8/10. My breakfast buddy ordered pancakes 8/10. The restaurant isn't easy on the eyes, the tables/booth are old and wiggly. but the food makes it worth going.

Okay this place doesn't look like much from the outside, or inside for that matter, but the food was delicious and good size servings for incredibly reasonable prices. We were in downtown Detroit for the new year's weekend and looking for an open restaurant as many places were closed. We asked a guard at the Greektown casino and this was her recommendation. A lot of locals eat there too!

I was happy to return to Ham Shop after six years. My youngest son and I were staying nearby and visited around 8:30 AM on a Monday morning. There were only two other tables during our visit that had people sitting there. I ordered two eggs over medium, with sausage, potatoes and toast. My son had chicken tenders and fries. My breakfast was excellent and my son enjoyed his meal. As I said before there is nothing fancy here but a solid breakfast option in downtown Detroit.

My original breakfast plans didn't work out, but I did still really want breakfast food. I passed by this diner on the way back to the hotel, and figured I would stop in. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and the decor inside doesn't necessarily stand out -- it's just a no-frills classic neighborhood diner vibe. The staff were really sweet and you could tell a lot of the folks in there were regulars. I looked at the breakfast menu on the wall that had quite a few options. As my eyes scrolled through the menu, catfish and eggs jumped out at me -- BAM! That was an easy one. I've never had this for breakfast before! I was able to get the eggs scrambled, wheat toast, and grits as well. It was less than $15, and in today's economy I was surprised. When i got back to my room, everything was fantastic. It was a hefty amount of food too -- my toast isn't even pictured in my tray below. It's a great stop for anyone in the area that wants a classic diner breakfast. Them grits were extra buttery too, whew!

Catfish breakfast. Fish batter was too heavy for me.

We were in town for vacation and we searching for a breakfast spot walking distance of our hotel. Their breakfast menu is great! Lots to pick from! Everything was delicious except for the catfish I ordered (but I do love that they offer catfish for breakfast!). The fry was just too heavy and too cooked for my personal liking. I ended up picking most of it off. While we were there, we noticed locals dining and lots of locals getting carry out. Another couple who were on vacation walked in, looked around at the place and left. It's not a fancy spot. It's your classic local dive (dive in a good way) breakfast joint. They've had a lot of business over the years so the floors are scuffed and everything is a little rough around the edges, but it is clean. I would eat here again!

Ham and cheese omelette, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, two eggs over easy with turkey sausage and grits. Rye toast.

A+! Great food and service! The portions are large so I suggest sharing with one other person, unless you normally eat for 2. My husband ordered a ham and cheese omelette with hash browns plus a half order of biscuits and gravy but it looked like a full order. The ham is real, not sliced.

We were staying at a nearby hotel and decided to grab some breakfast here prior to the Michigan football game. The food and service were both good. The ambiance was a bit old and outdated.

Ham Shop is an old-school no-frills diner on the edge of Greektown. I saw a mix of downtown professionals and locals eating here for a good reason. The food is excellent and reasonably priced, and breakfast is served all day. I ordered the catfish breakfast with eggs and potatoes and a side of grits for takeout. The cook time took twenty minutes which I spent walking around Greektown. The catfish was huge, perfectly cooked, hot, crispy, meaty, and tender on the inside. I was surprised that the fish tasted so good. I love grits with any breakfast meal, and I received a large container. The eggs and hash browns were also well-cooked. I have no complaints about this breakfast. I recommend Ham Shop for a classic local Coney diner-style breakfast downtown.

Standard diner in downtown Detroit. A bit small and very busy with customers going in and out. Food was delicious and service was outstanding. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive! I ordered the Greek omelette which was filling and deserves a 10/10. The breakfast special with corned beef was also delicious! I would recommend this place for an easy and fast breakfast!

I absolutely LOVE a good, affordable breakfast and this place has it! If you're staying near here and you don't visit you're missing out!

Once again another great breakfast. I was at a business event and a guy was telling everyone that if you wanted breakfast, the Ham Shop was the only place to go. It was my thoughts exactly. There ended up being a few of us who had already eaten here and everyone had the same review. Great food, Great service and worth the visit.

The video surveillance should have also captured the moment I was bear hugged, dragged through a dark hallway, and eventually thrown into a white sign outside. I received bruises and luckily nothing major happened like landing wrong on my head and getting a concussion and possible death (should I have had a bad landing after being tossed by this lady). As she grabbed me and before she threw me to the ground I pled with her that she did not need to do this, but she was very angry (probably because she was working on Halloween and saw me with 3 beautiful girls and she couldn't handle how well the costume looked on me - just speculating here.) I went to this place on Halloween 2025, by the time I was assaulted it was November 1st, 2025 because it was past midnight. I was with 3 other girls (I am a male). We waited in line to get in. I was dressed up as Spider-Man and the girl I was with was Catwoman. I am of Western European descent and maybe that was the issue, I was racially profiled by the woman hostess/bouncer because she was letting in the rest of the people except me and my crew. I proceeded to take my phone out and record her after the assault and take pictures of her so I could later report her. On top of that, there were gunshots nearby so I decided to uber home and report this later instead of right away with the owner. I am going to follow up with this place to make sure we can come to some understanding that assaulting customers is not ok and I will continue to spread the word about my experience if I am not adequately satisfied with their resolution (if there is one). Again, this place is bad news and you should stay away. I am willing to change this review if an apology and some sort of incentive is offered.

We waited maybe 5 minutes for a couple of seats to open up, and promptly ordered a couple of coney's each. I'm not exaggerating when I say I was taking my first bite less than 3 minutes later. And they were quite tasty. So tasty, in fact, that I ordered a third one. And some coffee to avoid a food coma. And my grand total was $13 lol. I really don't love having to order off of my phone because it limits the server to customer experience but despite that my server Mary made me feel super connected to her. She had great recommendations and knowledgeable descriptions of the menu. I sat on the patio with a nice breeze and minimal bugs. Seating was spacious and delightful. I got the brekwhich and it was soooooo delish. Mary could tell I was a freak so she had the crazy idea to put their locally farmed 3 berry jam on it. I told her it reminded me of that one episode of SpongeBob and I lost her :/. The savory plus the sweet was heaven in my heart. If he could he would, and apparently everyone's afraid of heaven.
